It was special occasion that my best friend came from overseas and expecting to have lunch at the restaurant for long time, however, they sent us to the pool side which is so hot and bees are bothering. They did not give us explanation. If they noticed us beforehand, we could choose different date. Food was good, but could not find same value as we were served IN the restaurant. We tried to enjoy but could not have good time as we expected. Disappointed...
We stayed at the hotel and had a memorable meal. The beef and lamb entrees were excellent. Wonderful cocktails. Desserts are unique and delicious.
The food is no match for the setting. Attentive service but not very sophisticated. Could be a special place but not yet there.
Service was excellent. Dinner was delicious. We’ll be back.
Fabulous food and service gorgeous venue already looking forward to my next visit.
We ha Sunday brunch at Equus. While the service was excellent, except for the 1/2 hour wait for waffles, the variety of food was definitely lacking. Beverages such as coffee, tea, juice, etc. are not included in the price of the brunch buffet, which is highly unusual. Definitely not worth the price.
Great dinner, friendly and professional staff, beautiful venue, and will return soon.
We enjoyed a lovely anniversary dinner at Equus. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. We had the local chicken dish and the red snapper, both of which were great/ . To honor our anniversary, we were presented with a special dessert after dinner. The only issue we had was a very loud group at an adjacent table which made conversation challenging, at best. Other than that, we had a lovely experience at Equus.
Underwhelmed by the food and service but the view and architecture partially compensate. We had Sunday brunch at 2:00 PM. We were seated promptly at a window table with a lovely Hudson River view. We asked for a wine list and were then ignored for ten minutes, despite the room being half empty. The brunch was a buffet with a mediocre choice of warm dishes, sushi, pastries and fruit. I sampled a variety of items and none of them were bad, but I’ve had equal or better food at low-key events at a VFW Hall. Wine pours were also skimpy. They explained that they use a measure to pour exactly 5 ounces but it was a “scant” 5 ounces, if that. Desserts were good. We expected a five-star food, drink, and hospitality experience to match the venue and view. Disappointed.
Food was amazing, drinks were mediocre at best, stick with wine/bubbly/beer and it’ll be a 5 star meal
I have no idea who was cooking Monday night but the food was terrible. Half my porkchop was fat. My friend ordered steak and it was tough and chewy. The kitchen was not accommodating to a special request from my friend who has severe allergies to gluten. There was absolutely nothing that was outstanding. I would never return.
Very nice for a special dinner. We sat outside which was beautiful. The staff were wonderful.
Food was very good! The high level of service was great! The garden room was beautiful!
Mini-vacation visiting places along the Hudson. This was a lovely place.
I made a dinner reso at Equus for my wife's birthday - just the two of us. The castle, outdoor spaces, and bar area were really nice, and we really enjoyed our pre-dinner drinks outside in the garden, which was amazing. When we went to the restaurant for dinner, it was almost empty (8.15PM Thursday evening). Also, because the website said "jackets recommended", we were expecting a dressier environment, which wasn't the case (I was the only one in a jacket). While the service was good, the food felt and tasted like a frozen meal. I ordered the crab cakes for appetizer, the meat was very dry. For mains, I ordered the NY strip, while my wife got the lamb. The meat was cooked to medium (I had requested medium rare), and it felt like a cheap discount purchase - it had no marbling, no seasoning, etc. Additionally, the sauce was exactly the same for the two dishes! Deserts were also sub-par. Overall, the food dampened the positive experience. I might go back for a pre-dinner drink and outdoor scenery, but make dinner plans elsewhere.
Mixed experience. Chef vastly my wife’s lamb chops. My wife insisted on a new cut be cooked so she didn’t end up with predictably over cooked/undercooked meat. Chef insisted he do an entire new fish dinner for me so the timing of our dinners was the same. Admirable! They also took the cocktails and wine off the tab. So while they screwed up initially they corrected in an exemplary fashion. Quality of the food was excellent. Wine prices are steep with limited wines by the glass
Alison, the Maitre d'Hotel, was extremely helpful. Called in advance of our meal to ensure able to accommodate dietary needs of my vegan guest. She sent the menu for the day in advance highlighting the items that can be made vegan. They chef prepared special vegan entree for my guest. I had the fish and salad which were excellent. We both had vegan desserts which were good. The atmosphere and view are wonderful. So Alison, the chef and the waiter were all extremely accommodating.
Very nice experience, would definitely come back again.
Everything went wrong starting with them handing us an old menu. Once we were placing our dinner order, I was told the item I wanted was not on the menu but it was listed on my menu. They apologized for giving me an old menu.
They also handed us an old wine list menu, we discovered it was old when we attempted to purchase a bottle off that menu.
When they brought out the bread, I found a hair in it.
Then they gave the dinner dish to one member of the party who was allergic to an ingredient in it, even though this information was given to them before the reservation and we reminded them when we placed our order.
One person out of the party of 4, had no food for 10-15 minutes while others had theirs getting cold in their plates.
When the server handed us the bill, he told us that they did not charge us for one dinner item. Surprisingly, when I looked at the bill, we were indeed charged for all items. The server then hurriedly went and removed one dinner from the bill.
Needless to say this was an exceptionally bad experience. It was so bad every step of the way that we all laughed at the sheer absurdity of it all.
The service was excellent. The food was very good (burrata, sirloin, cavatelli pasta). The strawberry Alaska dessert was excellent. The food is very pricey, which we expected, but I think it was a bit much to charge $10 for a mocktail of soda water, lemon, and a tsp of strawberry purée. It is a good restaurant if you’re looking to splurge or celebrate something special.
Stunning location delicious cuisine and extremely attentive service not cheap but definitely worth it for a special occasion
The food was good and a lot to choose from. We were not expecting it to be buffet style but we love it. We had a great time.
The staff was spectacular. Lots of personal attention. Great food complemented by a great view.
We felt that it was a little too stuffy. We have been here in the past, and the energy wasn’t the same. Everyone was delightful, but something was missing!!
food was tuff to cut. service was nice and the grounds are beautiful.
As always, fabulous! Simple, relaxed elegance. Comfortable, warm setting. Breakfast and brunch menus are simple. Are meant to make things easy for the diner rather than overwhelm them. A good sign of quality: the staff is very stable.
It’s a beautiful location and for the most part the service is wonderful. Unfortunately we had to wait at least 30 minutes for dinner. We weren’t in a rush but it was excessive. They bought our drinks for us but it did take away a bit from the evening.
Top drawer for food, ambiance and service
Great for that special occasion
After our dinner one of the managers gave us a quick tour and overview of the history of the venue. Great customer service and overall experience.
Although the food was wonderful, the service impeccable and the ambiance lovely - the experience was not. We wanted a 7p reservation and your site only offered alternatives. The room was empty when we sat down and the bar was closed. Only the Bistro menu was offered. The staff could not have been more accomodating... but the overall experience was not what we had hoped for.
The service was absent .cocktails incorrect and watered down. ... or just water. The food is terribly over priced . Next time head into nyc or go to XO . Skip
The Castle was absolutely gorgeous! The decor/atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice. Service was excellent. However, I ordered the filet mignon medium rare. When I cut into it, it was medium well to medium at best. I politely sent it back and requested that it be cooked medium rare. Any avid steak eater knows, a premium steak house will cook a medium rare steak so that when you slice into it the center is pink to warm red. When I received my second steak it was barely pink inside - a solid medium - definitely not medium rare. I did not bother retuning it a second time, this was at least editable to me. Needless to say I was disappointed with the steak. Dessert was great. Moral of the story, if you want a medium rare steak at Equus, order it rare and perhaps they'll get it right.
Although the setting and ambiance are beautiful and the service is gracious and attentive, the food was very disappointing. The chilled pea soup was not very cold; the dressing on the vegetable accompaniments to the burrata lacked flavor. The halibut was tasty but dry. The sauce on the cavatelli was thin and watery. We opted out of dessert, but our server brought us a complimentary celebratory plate of sweets containing something resembling a Madeleine and a fruit-flavored home-made marshmallow.
My wife and I have dined at Equus a number of times. We typically save Equus for special occasions. This restaurant never fails. The food is always beautifully prepared, the service is always superb, the setting is gorgeous and what needs to be emphasized is always. From the Maitre de, Dominic, to the entire wait staff, you are treated to a restaurant experience unequaled in Westchester.
The Father's Day buffet was lacking and very overpriced. If I had known it was a buffet I would not have made a reservation. No other choice was given to us so we had the buffet. The selection as it appeared on the menu seemed great but the carving station items were dry, the hot buffet was bland including a very overcooked jambalaya and we passed on desserts because everything seemed better on paper than it did once on the plate. At the end I feel I ended up paying $60 for an arugula and grilled peach salad (nothing else on the salad) and some smoke salmon because everything else stayed on the plate. Pretty underwhelming.
The terrace view of the garden is very nice for pre dinner drinks. The food is very good, although the portions are on the smaller side. The service during our last visit was less than spectacular, but still better than most restaurants. Overall, a very nice place for a special event dinner.
We wanted a special place for our 40 anniversary. Equus has always represented quality dining. From the beginning, our experience was terrible. The waiter was unfamiliar with the menu; I had to correct him. Cocktail was lovely. Appetizer (mushroom risotto was ok. Salty yet nice flavor. My wife’s cold asparagus was not chilled. Her duck
entree was tough and difficult to slice. My fish was barely room temperature. Our server never checked in. I asked a staff member to return the dish to the kitchen. She didn’t understand. When she took it back, no one noticed nor inquired about my dinner. My meal arrived at an appropriate temperature. All staff were ill trained and awkward. When I asked for the check, the manager said they were having a bad night and comped the meal. Terrible and poorly trained service staff and inadequate and poor food; awful anniversary dinner though the view of the Hudson was spectacular.
The food and staff were both excellent, we had a wonderful night and will be back again soon, thanks to all.
Loved our dining experience at Equus. It was our first time there and a surprise to my husband. We celebrated Father’s Day with a dinner here and brought our 2 year old who was thankfully well behaved thanks to the staff who gave her high fives and endless amount of bread. We thoroughly enjoyed every course and our cocktails. The property is so beautiful, I’ll have to come back with a better camera to capture it all better. We’ll be back!
Excellent maître d’ and wait staff. Damien is top notch. Cxxxxxccxxxxxxxxcxxxxcxcxxxxxxxx. Cxxxxxxxxx
