We went with hesitation as reviews were not great. We were with a larger party and this was one of two restaurants that was able to accommodate us. Welcome was weird and restaurant was very cold. The saving grace was the amazing tasting food. I have been in China many times and this came the closest to what I enjoyed in Shanghai, Beijing and many other places I dined.

I went with a crew of friends to celebrate my birthday and enjoy some spicy Málà but the food was very sub par and barely spicy at all.

Third time here was NOT a charm. Bug in one glass, half of a used teabag in a teacup. Slow and incomprehending waitress expressed ZERO concern about the dirty dishes. We ordered 4 sauces; 2 were incorrect. The lamb was mixed with beef; if you don't like lamb, you know what it tastes like. The mushrooms were not Chinese mushrooms (wood ear, straw, black trumpet, ...) as we expected, but the bok choy was fresh and crisp. I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 because everyone enjoyed the fried dumplings and the steam buns, and the Szechuan chicken was very good. The hot pot itself was fine, although if you order the half-spicy pot, you may want to ask them to cut the red peppers in half. We like spicy, but the broth was nearly inedible, even after we fished out at least 30-40 peppers, and two out of 5 of us had to run to the restroom before leaving the restaurant. I came back to this restaurant to be loyal, and because we had a good experience last Lunar New Year, but I have no reason to return when there are other hot pot restaurants on the same street and hopefully the service and the sanitation are better.
Eating here is as close of an experience I have had as if I was back in mainland China, Chengdu to be specific. The food is individually prepared as needed, and depending on one's tolerance for spicy the level can be made light to moderate. Everything is real. We always begin with dry sautéed string beens which in China is translated "terrified string beans" because they are overcooked to showing signs of being burnt and shriveled -- but the taste is fabulous. Then we order fresh lamb with cumin and a 3rd dish, jumbo shrimp cooked with red chili peppers, the shrimp peeled and lightly battered. Beyond heaven, the food is so good we often order duplicate portions for take-out. And they have hundreds of similar dishes. If this is the type of food you also enjoy, #10 Pell Street in Chinatown is the one place to go whenever you get into that mood.

Wonderful Hot Pot. Rich chicken broth, fresh vegatables, noodles and proteins. Plenty of food, although we would have kept eating if there were more.
This restaurant is across the street from Joe's Shanghai which has dozens and dozens of people waiting outside for a table - right in front of Famous Sichuan. The service was efficient and pleasant. The food was no more than mediocre at best. The cold sesame noodles were so salty that they were nearly inedible. One or two dishes were okay, but the rest were not bad, but certainly not good enough to trek down to Chinatown. Disappointing to say the least. Would not go back to this restaurant.
This is a no frills, simply delicious food, fun experience Hot Pot place. Fun and tasty...if that will make you happy, go for it. Personally, that's fine with me.
My suggestion is that this restaurant should close their services immediately. The worse experience I’ve ever had eating at a Chinese Sichuan restaurant. The food was EXTREMELY HORRIBLE. I repeat HORRIBLE... Even if the food was free I would run. The service was dreadful. (I should get my money back and be paid for them wasting my time) I do not recommend this restaurant at all. If I could I would give 100 negative stars in a heartbeat. Closedown instantly!
Amongst the best Chinese restaurants in Manhattan. Don't be deceived by its low-keyed simple décor -- the food is as good as it gets ... even down to the Red Bean and Green Tea ice creams Yummy.
I took the family there for hot pot, which I had not had since the days I lived in China. The hot pot came out one side Sichuan hot the other side normal. Great start! However, they brought out only vegetables to begin with without any meats. The pork dumplings were frozen, inedible and disgusting. I asked for bok choy, and got regular cabbage so I had to return that. When the meats came out, they were also frozen, but good. The sauces were also great and as I remembered. Also no full liquor bar. Everything
Check your bill, they added $12 on a $40 bill as if wouldn't notice and called it the tip,and another $6.91 for taxes.
The place looks very promising and perhaps has more to offer than the standard sesame chicken I ordered which was tasty but the entire dish was barely warm, and broccoli entirely cold so a little disappointed there. However, quality of food was good and I would come again to try another dish specific to Sichuan cooking.
Waiter was not very welcoming but food was good. Truly unique experience having hot pot.
If you didn’t know what to order I would say DONT come. Service was lacking. Once we had service it was fine. However, who runs out of Saki after one bottle on a Sat night.
Old Chinatown cuisine packed together with the spiciness of Sichuan cooking. Specializing in Hot Pot, but nearly everything else is available. Reasonable pricing.
Very good reasonably priced seafood, excellent service... we will be back

We came here for family Sunday brunch. The surprisingly large Place was empty except for two other groups. I didn't like that the dim lighting which they brightened for us. It must've been a beautiful place. We ordered 7 dishes with chicken; beef; pork; tofu; wonton; soup dumplings. Everyone complained about the poor quality of the dishes, especially about the soup dumplings & wontons. They also charged $1 for each bowl of rice! Customarily, rice is free in Chinese restaurants. Servers were attentive & accommodating. It's probably the 1st relaxing meal that we've had in busy hustle/bustle Chinatown. It could be a gem, if owner renovated & added a large storefront window, as well as used fresh ingredients.
Server was non existent with only 1 other table of 4 .We had a Groupon so he basically gave us the menu acted like he didn't understand any questions .We ordered the hotpot,he never asked if we needed or wanted anything. The lady behind the register maybe owner had an elderly man helping but I don't think he was connected to them as he didn't know anything. The Groupon was about $35 and they added tip and tax which was very close to $19 so was it a $54 experience , not really

The food was very good. The "hot" dishes, however, were mediocre. Otherwise, the dishes were prepared well with fresh ingredients.
The snow ruined the experience as the restaurant was empty and all the staff were focused on their takeaway business
Celebrated the lunar new year and a birthday with hot pot. We got half-plain half-spicy broth and at the end of the meal both were delicious. The fried pork dumplings were hot, tasty and large; we placed a second order. The cold sesame noodles were spicy but good. The Sichuan tofu was so delicious our vegan friend ate the entire platter by herself. Edamame was hot and just salty enough. Others liked the squid and tripe in the hot pot; I preferred the bok choy , broccoli and beef. Overall we spent $25/person without drinks and everyone was very pleased and satisfied. The service, which was non-existent the previous weekend when I did a reconnaissance visit, was much more attentive this time.
Very delicious and tasty. Service is great. Best place we had in Chinatown.
