Flesh & Buns Covent Garden
Below street-level, the restaurant has a bar area offering bar dining for up to 10 people, serving a variety of sake brands and a diverse range of cocktails including the signature Frozen Yuzu Margarita, alongside the restaurant’s varied sharing food menu. Draped fabric ‘noren’ screen curtains surround intimate dining booths and transport diners to an authentic Japanese drinking den experience – bookable and ideal for groups of friends or colleagues meeting for lunch, dinner or Flesh & Buns’ ever-popular Sunday Brunch.
Excellent food, but busy and noisy
Didn’t like being sat at communal table
The restaurant had a lovely ambience and decor. However, the food was really overpriced for what I would describe as bland. Between my partner and I, we had korean wings, the pork katsu, Japanese fried chicken, steamed rice and the steamed buns.
The best thing in the table were the dumplings. The katsu had a barely a few spoons of curry sauce in a bowl to mask the dryness, the fried chicken was dry and tasted like nothing, perhaps the two dishes of bbq mayo was put there to disguise the nothing taste.
I have no problem paying for a decent meal but you feel cheated when it is not the case. I'll try bone daddies next time to see if that is any better. If not, waga's it is
Great concept and food of high quality. Service was good considering how busy the restaurant was.
The food and ambience is consistently great but I think the seating gets smaller and smaller every time I return to the Covent Garden branch. Could barely fit our meals on the table and the person next to me had a lot of bags they littered all around me giving me less space to move at all. I spent the whole time trying not to knock anything over.
Nonetheless the service is great, staff pay attention to detail and are always helpful when you need them.
Great food, especially dessert! S’mores with fire brought to the table, nice touch.
Having eaten here previously, we were disappointed to discover our favourite dish had been changed significantly. While we enjoyed the food, the portion sizes were very small compared to our last visit. Particularly the 'Japanese Fried Chicken which the waiter had informed us had been reduced in size while the price remained the same. We originally felt eating here was both good value for money and an enjoyable experience, however this time left hungry for nearly the same cost.
I like it a lot man what can I say it’s no episode 6 bad but it’s no season 5 good either
Really good. Loved it. Ate lovely food. Would recommend.
Great atmosphere, delicious cocktails and excellent food. You can eat there until quite late so good option for after a show.
Restaurant was absolutely lovely, perfect venue for a relaxed date night. Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable- recommending sake (turns out I still don’t like it but there we are!). Cocktails were delightful and the food was great. Would definitely recommend!
Food and service amazing, had the tasting menu and found it to be a fantastic way of trying all the dishes, the bao buns were amazing and the s’mores dessert was a great ending to an amazing meal
Food was average, unfortunately, their best item on the menu; the Japanese fried chicken. They have significantly reduced the portion size to just 200g of chicken, so you only get 3 small pieces, when before it was around 7-8 pieces. This makes the value significantly worse. Would not recommend anymore.
Lovely staff, great ambience, delicious food - however I did think the £40 per person set menu was slightly pricey.
The waitress was brilliant and navigated us through the menu giving us a few recommendations along the way we went with the pre theatre menu which was really excellent value. The food was really good!
Poor service, attitude of staff seemingly unhappy and unwilling to help. Main dishes came before the starter snacks and before serving drinks - which we had to send back to make sure it was in the right order.
Food was good quality, but overall the service dampened the experience sadly.
The brunch was incredible. Will 100% attend again
My sister and I had the Sunday brunch menu including wine/Prosecco. The food was delicious, good portion sizes and they were very generous with the bubbles, didn’t once have to ask for more!
Delicious food! A bit pricey for the portions but excellent quality
Food was very nice but overpriced. The waiter struggled to explain several dishes and we had wrong dishes served to us twice. Could of been because they were busy, but expected a little better.
Quite a touristy crowd which speaks volumes. Very expensive - had the pre theatre menu which is supposedly good value, however it came to £33 per head without drinks. The food was below average and terrible value for money - the sushi at Itsu or any chain is superior and the buns were lacking in light, fluffiness and were sticky and doughy. Didn’t stay for dessert.
An overpriced disappointment
If you enjoy American-style deep-fried cuisine fused with an Asian twist then you’ll love this restaurant. There is nothing sophisticated about the cooking, flavours or service at this restaurant, and any higher-end dishes (such as sushi or sashimi) are served in wafer-thin slices or as tiny portions. It is a disappointment - everything is deep-fried and accompanied with flavoured mayonnaise, each dish lacking any finesse and interesting flavours. It’s shockingly expensive for what it is. I wouldn’t return.
The food was really good. Can't fault it.
If you're looking for a pre-theatre menu that is quick, good quality and excellently priced, head to Flesh and Buns. The service as usual was second to none and the food excellent. This restaurant continues to be one of my favourite places in London.
Had a fantastic experience here, the food is delicious - inventive flavour combinations and a fun mini bonfire for our 'smores' dessert! As to whether it's appropriate for your occasion, it's best to know the music is fairly loud and pairs are often placed on bench seating meaning it can feel not very private. I preferred our separate table, to which the staff kindly relocated me on request. Recommended!
Went to flesh and buns to have a catch up with my mate. Great location and service was awesome. Maki Monday’s are great value for money and food was absolutely amazing and fresh. Juices were also great and for sushi places in London pretty good value for money. Can imagine if you add alcohol might get a bit pricey but definitely worth it. Will be coming back.
Excellent sashimi. Cool under ground atmosphere. Friendly and quick service.
Amazing restaurant, this has been my go to place for the past two years for sushi!
Food was delicious and incredible value for money - we did Sunday brunch! Our waitress was absolutely lovely and perfectly attentive. Will definitely go back! Thank you
The pre theatre menu was very good value. The portion sizes were great and the quality was brilliant. It is louder than I would prefer for a restaurant and at times struggled to hear my partner.
We were being rushed to finish Our food.....................….
As always the Korean fried wings, Bao and kinako doughnuts are the crowd pleasers. Made well and hits the spot. The seafood ceviche was refreshing. Food was served quick and waitress was attentive. Other parts on the menu were okay and do with improvement such as the sushi maki rolls and was not worth the value in money.
I felt the music was a little loud for the day time. Overall great foods on the signature flesh and buns dishes.
My friends and I shared a few orders of the buns and they were incredible and great for sharing. The service was also extremely fast.
My sons and I enjoyed our meal here. It was delicious! The waitstaff were impeccable. It was wonderful
Brunch was great.
Staff was really helpful and friendly and advised us on what to order as it was our first time. The food was lovely and filling. It was not heavy at all. Definitely will come back again!
Great welcome, friendly helpful staff. Food is delicious.and great for sharing. Firestone rice is one of our favourites. Veggie ans meat/fish options. Would really recommend.
Awesome vibe and great meal!
We ordered nearly the whole menu and everything was delicious.
