Our aim is to take the classic elements of Brazilian cuisine and remix them, take the best of London"s incredible Music scene and recook it and take a South American beach bar and re-present cocktails sipped on the cabana's of Ipanema and Florioponalis.
Floripa is from 50's South Americana – the bossa beach vibe to 21st Century London's Babel like Hub of the World.
Floripa mixes all conviviality's – we are a Brazilian influenced restaurant, a bar for the globe, a London bloc party club, an Ipanema inspired colonial bordello, an idyllic sunset circus and indeed none of the above.
Nearest overground - Shoreditch High Street (approx 7 mins walk)
We are also only 10 minutes walk from Liverpool Street and Moorgate.
I booked floripa for my birthday night out with friends and no one bothered to tell me it was shut "due to unforeseen circumstances" I think this is completely unacceptable!!!
Terrible ! It was close without any Notice to me who had a reservation with friends for a Xmas dinner. Embarrassing and disappointing behaviour From the companies involved.
I booked a table for 10 for Friday night for birthday celebrations...I like quiet places but this was too quiet! So much so that there was no staff, no lights on and the doors were locked!
Apparently no one told open table it had closed down!🙈
Unfortunately, despite having booked a table, on arrival Friday night the restaurant was closed with no explanation although the bar across the road said Floripa had been open the night before. I received no email beforehand advising not to come and, as this was a special occasion, had to quickly find another venue for dinner. Not impressed!
lovely place lovely staff will definitely recommend to people
I went to Floripa for a friend's birthday dinner. It was just the 3 of us and they only had a 21:00 table left, so we planned for a late dinner followed by drinks, because I remember the Floripa bar being quite vibrant. I was hugely appalled with the service and will not be going back unless it is for a quick and early drink. We arrived at 21:05 and ordered a few cocktails and some starters. We finished these at 21:25, asked to order our mains and were told that the kitchen was closed, or rather, that all the cooks had already left...? There was no prior warning of the kitchen closing and we were told very rudely. So we stayed for a while, chatted, etc. At 21:50 we tried to get attention to order another round of cocktails - someone came over 5 minutes later and told us that the table service was over, and that if we wanted drinks we'd have to get up and order at the bar. So we rushed to the bar at 21:57 because the menu stated that last order for drinks was at 10pm (no idea why they call themselves a bar - it was a Friday night!), and were told that no more drinks were being served except for a Mojito and a couple of Floripa special cocktails... there were 4 bartenders doing absolutely nothing and not one would order the cocktails we wanted. Between the kitchen closing, the staff being unbothered to place an order at the table and the bar closing, we ultimately had a really bad time and I feel terrible for my friend. If you would still like to go, I recommend going for an early dinner on a weekday - that might be nice!
I MADE A BOOKING ON SATURDAY 24TH TO HAVE DINNER ON SUNDAY 25TH AND WHEN I WAS COMING TO THE RESTAURANT NEXT DAY IT WAS CLOSED. I CALLED THEM AND THEY TOLD ME THEY DONT OPEN ON SUNDAYS, ONLY FOR PRIVATE EVENT. SO MY QUESTION IS, WHY OPEN TABLE LET ME BOOK AT THAT TIME? SO IT WOULD BE YOUR FAULT AND I HOPE I HAVENT BEEN CHARGED FOR THAT BECAUSE YOU ASKED ME FOR MY CREDIT CARD DETAILS. YOU SHOULD BE MORE EFFICIENT.
The place smelt very bad as soon as we walked in (toilets downstairs) and the bill took ages to sort out.
We left quite quickly after one drink.
I was told the cocktails were alright however.
Took 10 minutes to be seated had to ask twice , limited menu probably good for drinks but not for food
We arrived but the restaurant did not have our booking. We were offered a table right in front of the busy bar - not ideal for dinner. So we left.
Good food and ambiance. Eat then stay for the music.
I have been to Floripa on multiple occasions. They've always had good music, a never-ending list of cocktails, and a great menu. This time, on a Thursday evening at 20:45, it was absolutely empty. The cocktail list had been changed to a measly 1-page/8 to 10 cocktails only, and the menu had been downsized significantly.
We ordered a daiquiri and some sort of kiwi cocktail followed by bacalhau (since they were out of the cheese bread, for some reason), a BBQ pulled pork burger and the feijoades. The feijoades was the only dish that was any good: the bacalhau fish cake was much too peppery and came with ketchup, out of all the dressings, and the pulled pork burger was salty sauce and fat. There was absolutely no meat, and it was a disaster, especially for £13! The cocktails were good, but small and full of ice. I used to love Floripa and recommended it often, but no more.
Good atmosphere, good for drinks but do not go for the food, sorry! It’s a lively place with very loud music which is nice if you want somewhere for some fun drinks but the quality of the food was very poor. The waiting staff were very nice but extremely busy so the service itself was poor...I was shocked that we got charged 12.5% service charge after having to wait 20 mins to take our order and literally over 40 mins for our food (meat platter was pretty poor, a lot of the meat was burnt and extremely dry and fatty), along with waiting for 10 mins to get the attention to ask for the bill. But the staff, who are clearly over worked, were really nice...once you can get their time.
Some staff were great. Done were not! One guy was particularly awkward with us. Cocktails were ok but not great - best sticking to straight drinks! Atmosphere is great and vibe later on in evening is great! I would go again
Waited for the food 1h!
Food is quite good and the portions are big. Environment is fun & lively.
As soon as I arrived the staff were warm and welcoming. I was organising my friend's hen do and the space that we were given was perfect for setting up, the staff allowed me to put some decorations and hen-do adult paraphernalia all over the table which I really appreciated. The food and cocktails were really delicious and a great way to share and enjoy with 10 ladies.
Great service and food, flexibility with a large group of people (15) on a Friday evening.
Early relaxed perfect for a nice dinner and later good music with a DJ.
Convenient location in the East. Great place for a birthday gathering.
Food was bland and lacked any flavour. My boyfriend is Brazilian and said the food wasn't in any way authentic. This place is just a pub and in no way should be selling itself as a restaurant
The experience in Floripa was good overall, however our reservation was at 7 pm and as soon as we arrived the staff told us we must leave at 9 pm because the table was double booked. They said they have tried to contact me but I didn't have any missed calls or voice mails from them. It was disappointing as we were celebrating a birthday and we could not even have desserts.
Cocktails were great and the food was decent too. A nice casual spot to catch up with a friend after work. There is an outdoor area which would be great in summer if you can grab a spot.
I went with some friends for dinner, we asked the whole picanha which was beautiful! We had some rose with it, was alright. The waitress was Spanish and really nice. As it was a Tuesday there were some groups playing music, was loud so we couldn't talk much between us but the groups were great and we really enjoyed them!
After dinner we decided to ask for a few cocktails. Two of us asked for strawberry daiquiris and they were awful really horrible!
Overall is a nice place with nice staff and fantastic meat.
I will come back, but next time I will leave the cocktails for other place!
The food it's amazing, great music, friendly staff.
I had been looking forward to going to floripa for a while as I pass it on my way home, I checked out the menu online and the venue. The food was substandard, drinks were too I did not wish to attempt dessert. Waitress/ Host was disorganised and the whole place seemed to be a bit of a mess. Two friends of mine ordered the same drink and the came prepared differently one in a short glass with ice and the other in a martini glass without. I had high hopes but I was unfortunately let down :-(
Great band and top notch singers on Thurs nights. The bar was really cold before it filled out, and the service was brilliant, really attentive staff and was never without a drink. The food was pretty average, all cheap and tasteless. But still had a great night out, the band was fun and only good singers allowed on that stage.
The atmosphere here is nice, went with my parter on his birthday with a groupon voucher. Our starters, the copinhas were extremely dry with salsa that was basically ketchup. Our mayonnaise also had bits of ketchup and food In from the previous table which wasn't very nice. We had steak for main which was ok, I was chewing for a very long time! Chocolate fondant however was very nice. All in all it's a nice place with good music, just don't eat here.
I just would like to say that I planned my farewell party at Floripa not only because any other suitable place was impossible to book for 15 people, but also the fact that I wanted to show a little bit of my own culture to my British friends.
First of all, the place is quite central when you consider that Old Street station is right next door as well as being strategically positioned for night buses.
Second, our table was greatly situated in the back alley whereas it gave the whole group a sense of privacy, space to eat and overlook the crowd.
Most of all, I was completely astonished with the quality of service. Simply put, our waitresses (Monica and Renata) went out their way to keep the drinks and food flowing and at the end present a very accurate bill. They even took our music request to the DJ (which obviously are not that keen on it).
Nonetheless, on a downturn, I was really upset with the quality of the music it played. I read about the DJ style (Jimi Needles) as well as listened to some of it songs on Youtube; however, what there was a lack of creativity on keeping the rhythm flowing, I felt there was a complete absence of whatever Brazilian or Latin influence. Indeed, the signature turntable tricks were great, but a place such as Floripa that invokes primarily Brazilian and Latin American allure, the DJ should have been more sensitive to this aspect instead of playing Austin Power's theme song.
Additionally, Floripa has a great space for dancing, although it goes substantially misused due to the impracticality of the dinning tables. For instance, by the end of the night, people were overall dancing, nonetheless limited by the tables and benches that could have been easily shifted to the walls and therefore leave a greater space for moving around.
Overall, I would recommend this place to a friend, but would definitely look with much deeper scrutiny regarding the music style.
Great food, great atmosphere and very friendly and help staff. I am already planning my next dinner and drinks with the girls!
We had a nice early dinner with happy hour drinks... The decoration is amazing and food was good too!
I am brazilian and this place does not look like a brazilian place.
The menu has few brazilian food optinos, I had pao de queijo, coxinha and bolinho de bacalhau.
They did not taste good and the coxinha and bolinho de bacalhau does not even look like brazilian food.
The DJ played samba (ok), american and mexican music!
I asked for a the most brazilian song at the moment and the DJ had never heard about it.
The dancers does not know how to dance.
Sorry, but this is my honest opinion.
Had such a fun time at Floripa, when I went to the bar to look around and secure my group booking the manager was lovely and secured me a table in the back section which had beautifully decorated walls and lovely artistic chairs, it was gorgeous. I was also given flyers for buy one cocktail get one free which was great! The whole bar has a really nice laid back but fun vibe, it was perfect for what I was looking for and all of my party was happy with the service, drinks and food. Also on the initial viewing of the bar, the lovely manager gave me a free Caprihina cocktail for my birthday. She was very sweet and I would definitely recommend this bar to anyone who is looking to have a fun time!
Looking for a restaurant with the opportunity to shake a leg after, we came across Floripa. We tried to avoid the traditional Greek style nights as these have been done several times before. Wanted something different and so glad we came across Floripa. Great night out, Live music and dancing was awesome, food was good but secondary to the ambience of the venue. Great fun and will definitely go again but will be part of a group booking
Last time I visited I couldn't wait to return mainly because of the wonderful tapas available. This time I sadly saw that all but 3 were taken off and all that was left was bought out at average quality. Still a beautiful restaurant and a great place for cocktails and the wow factor. But for food I doubt I will return.
I'm Brazilian and can tell that the food and drinks in Floripa are the worst ever! My berries caipirinha was made with juice (no real fruit) and the "pao de queijo" (cheese bread) was dry and tasted as if it was from the previous day. The only reason I didn't give 1 star only for food was because my steak was good - but a bit expensive. Definitely not a good value for money and I wouldn't go back there again.
Overall our food was good not amazing, not outstanding and funnily enough not how I imagined.
We went for a mix of starters and we had a chicken dish which was a bit of a let down as it was quite heavy and not to our taste.
I had a taste card which was a joy - I would advise going her with a taste card you do get great value however on the whole the food wasn't that great. But the drinks were good and would probably go back for drinks...not so much the food.
We went on a Friday night with a group of friends to have dinner. Made a reservation asking to stay in a quite table. They confirm me I was in the AmazonRoom (off the main area). When we arrive they sit us rigth near the band. Nobody could talk during the dinner 'cause the noise. Terrible dinner! We ask 'picanha' that came with rice and vegetables. Everything quite poor. Won't go again, and don't recomend for dinners.
Let's just say I've had better cheese sauce at the cinema! It was like glue. There was 8 of us at the table and the whole table tried each tapas dish and left it! The chips were dry and burnt, the veggie patties unedible The pie was shop bought from a cheap bakers, microwaved. We arrived at 8 and left at 11 to go elsewhere (had to get out) and our bill was £470. We did complain but the manager refused to come to our table and they refused to deduct any cost. As we was on our Xmas do I let it slide and left. The ladies toilets had no toilet seats or locks and the floor was wet with mess and tissue. You could smell them in certain parts of the bar. Glasses were dirty, full of lipstick. Give it a miss!
I book a table in Floripa for my birthday for 10 people. When I arrived there, the table was just for 2; We managed to get a bigger table (just for 4) and then I was been told that I reserved a table for 10 standing people, and no with chairs!. I've never heard about a table without chairs before, even if I said by phone 2 weeks before that we will eat canapes. Then at 9.30 pm they move all the tables (I was ware of this, but the lady over phone told me that she will move my table and she will try not to remove it completely from the place), and the waitress was absolutely rude, she throw on the floor all our coats and bags from the table and chairs because she had to take out the table. We left at 10.30. No one enjoy. Food is awful too.
Great value, a hidden gem that has not yet been discovered by those fearing to leave Curtain Road. Cheap night of great cocktails, interesting food and a free bit of the CC Smugglers.
