Food for Friends
The restaurant caters for people with special dietary needs, there are vegan and gluten-free options for many dishes on the menu, as well as freshly baked vegan and gluten-free breads, cakes and scones every day.
We chose Food For Friends for a date night and we absolutely loved it. The food is to die for! We shared one main dish between us along with three small plates, and we were so glad we did as we were able to try so many different dishes - each one was delicious. The atmosphere was lovely and the service fantastic. Highly recommend!
We had an excellent meal here and enjoyed the food very much. Would recommend!
We had one night in Brighton and I chose this restaurant because it looked interesting and different with creative dishes. We were very impressed with everything we experienced. The restaurant is located in a delightful part of the Laines and looks very inviting even from the outside. We had a reservation and we’re greet warmly and asked if we were happy with our table- we were. The menu had many really interesting and unusual dishes which made it difficult to choose. Everything was extremely tasty; the three starters were absolutely delicious and the burger was one of, if not the best veggie burger I had ever tasted and I’ve been vegetarian for 35 years. The wine was good and the service excellent! What a shame I live in London and can’t eat here more often!!! I thoroughly recommend Food for Friends
Fantastic food. I am not vegetarian but eating at a restaurant like this made me feel I would not miss meat. Had a fantastic shared platter and a couple of great sides. Service was attentive and friendly. Could not really fault and would certainly recommend. I suspect you would need to book. We did and it was full when we got there.
Food delicious, full of flavour, beautifully presented, would thoroughly recommend the Bao Buns, Porcini Arancini and the Hummus. The biodynamic Reisling was equally delicious.
Food was excellent. So good to have a choice of desserts at a vegetarian/vegan restaurant. Was very impressed the waitress asked about allergies. Never had that before at any restaurant. As someone with a non life threatening allergy I usually just put up with unpleasant symptoms from eating contaminated products. This time I didn't have to.
Booked online 10 days in advance with email outlining my food intolerances as suggested to do on their website. This hadn’t been acknowledged as after much discussion from the manager with the chef they came up with the halloumi salad without the halloumi and replaced with cauliflower. So I had a large plate of salad leaves with loads of mango and avocado and then spicy cauliflower! This was my only option from the entire menu which I didn’t enjoy. Disappointed with the food and the service as it felt like we had been ignored.
Food was absolutely excellent! Expensive but tasty.
Great food in a great spot. We even moved to sit outside after lunch to enjoy a cocktail in the sunshine.
Great vegan food, personal service from lovely attentive staff. A lovely birthday treat :-)
Amazing afternoon a real treat. Made my friends birthday lunch very special.
Everytime we visit Brighton we always make sure we book a table here. This year we got a lovely table by the window in a lovely coveted area. The service was amazing and the food was delicious as always. We loved it! See you next year!
Mediocre and overpriced food, burgers were very bland. The staff was stressed and unengaged.
An £8 starter that was supposed to contain king oyster mushrooms contained 5 small mushroom stalks. Was it a joke? I contacted the restaurant through its website and have not received a reply. Overpriced and poor selection for vegans.
Had a lovely evening with fantastic food, smiling friendly staff and a lovely ambiance. I give a massive 5 Stars.
Food as always was wonderfully cooked. I did feel that mains selection was limited and a more varied choice would have been appreciated. Saying that, the dessert was out of this world and the service first rate as always. Very accommodating and we will be going back
Having never been before I found the restaurant to be absolutely lovely. I am not a vegetarian but it was a surprise for my daughter who is. The food was absolutely lovely with plenty of flavour and were good portion sizes.
If there was any negatives it would be that the black bean burger I had was a bit too big and a bit dry and would in my opinion be better if it was a bit slimmer. Overall, we had a great meal !
Great food - tasty and well presented. the lady serving us though had a bad day or just could not be bothered.
My friend and I tend to meet here regularly for lunch as the food is always good - and interesting - and the atmosphere great.
Good selection of vegetarian dishes at reasonable prices and friendly helpful staff.
The food here is pretty good. The service not so much. It felt like they had maximised capacity at the cost of having too few waitering staff. Ten minutes to be seated for a reserved table (not that bad), a further 35 minutes before I had to complain about the only person serving outside ignoring us. Probably best to go when it’s not busy.
The food was really lovely, but we felt disappointed by the service. We felt very crammed in between two other tables - their conversation totally dominated our evening. The food was really tasty, but we had ordered the small plates which the waitress said were 'tapas style' - perfect for the way we like to eat! But they all came all at once meaning there was no space on the table for us to even use plates and things went cold before we could get to them. We felt it would have been better for the food to come in waves, like small plates menus normally do. It was really tasty, but the cramped room and long wait for drinks and poorly organised food left us disappointed at a meal we had been really looking forward to!
We had a very nice meal indeed. Service was spot on. The menu isn't too large. Everything tasted as though it had been made fresh.
We were very excited to visit Food For Friends as it was our first visit and we'd heard good things! Great reception on arrival. Sadly the toilets weren't up to scratch-dirty hand dryer which made me not want to dry my hands and music crackling out of the ceiling speaker-distorted and too loud! The menu was appealing. Omnivore husband really enjoyed his risotto but the serving wasn't man size-it was really small. My veggie roast was over cooked with an overpowering, too rich gravy. The Wellington was still enjoyable but a lovely meal was spoiled by the gravy and being burnt. The spud were dry. The waitress was fabulous. Very polite and attentive. Some crayons and paper for my toddler would've been appreciated. I was touched by the complimentary birthday truffles at the end. We will return but will be brave enough to say 'no gravy & please don't burn it!'.
Service was friendly and generally efficient. Both starters (figs with blue cheese, and crispy Thai cauliflower) were both excellent. The risotto primavera was wonderfully fresh, but the burger didn’t quite hit the spot - it tasted much like any other veggie burger I’ve tasted. The wine (Sauvignon blanc) was very refreshing. So, the burger aside, a good meal. (Note: I’m not vegetarian, though much of my diet is more through convenience than by design. I appreciate good food generally, whatever anyone else wants to label it.)
The starters were lovely. Main courses were disappointing. House wine was horrible. Waitress was rude and slow.
Everything was perfect! Food for Friends comes highly recommended.
What I found confusing was that they had a bottle of champagne in the menu but then the waitress told us they only sell it by the glass, which obviously comes out of a bottle and is just a means to make more money. It seemed a bit cheeky especially on Sussex graduation week.
We really enjoyed our food and wine and beer. To have clear vegan labelling for food & drink was very reassuring for my wife. Lovely building and it felt nice and private despite other tables. We'll definitely return soon 🥰
Generally good food but a real shame that the molten chocolate pudding is no longer on the menu -it was the main reason for going and will mean less trips. Ambience less good than sometimes but probably as seated on v small table next to a group. Service was good except our ‘nibbles’ arrived after our starters which was odd and we wouldn’t have bothered ordering if we knew nibbles took so long and we expected them to to nibble on while we wait!
Have eaten here on previous occasions and enjoyed it. This time the service was just as great usual but the food failed to reach previous standards. The risotto was mushy and the burger dry. However, the starter/small plates were well cooked and presented. We would return based on previous experiences.
This has been our favourite restaurant for many years and we were really looking forward to visiting again.
There has been a complete change of staff and the whole vibe of the place has changed. I had the deep fried tofu, which was good, followed by baobuns. Still good, but not as good as last time and not as nicely presented on pur previous visits. My husband had the Moroccan tagine and it was disappointingly bland.
No English sparkling wines served there now.
Has there been a change of ownership/management? It is a pared down version of its former self. All the pzazz has gone and what is left is a rather grumpy and boring version of the fabulous FfF we knew and loved. Very sad.
Great food and really good choice. Delightful staff.
Should be renamed fast food for friends. We have been dining at FFF for many years, however based on this visit we shall not be returning. The table we had was too small and crammed in very near to the next table. The service was so quick we felt we were on a conveyor belt of diners. Most disappointing was the food which was lacking the finesse and complexity of flavour we have enjoyed in the past. The food is so average that the prices are too high for what was served.
Had a delicious pre theatre dinner here on Monday July 15th. Service was pretty good but the girls seemed to be working the hardest! I had risotto which was a touch too salty for my palette but in all other respects was super. The crumble dessert was beautifully presented and tasty gorgeous. My husband chose the tahini which he wolfed down.
The only grumble would be the state of the loos. Not up to standard.
Could not of been better. second time there and brilliant
Great experience. Staff were very considerate.
Lunch with a best friend is always going to be great but when combined with the amazing food at Food For Friends it made for a fabulous afternoon. As there is so much choice we selected a variety of small plates so that we could try out a few different dishes. There was plenty on each plate and each dish was superb, amazing flavours, more than enough for both of us and we tried some new options that I will definitely indulge in again.
staff very efficient and friendly. Food very tasty and nicely presented. Loved that we never felt rushed and there was plenty of time between courses.
Excellent as always!
Wonderful food, superb atmosphere and helpful staff!
Absolutely amazing food, wonderful service and really lovely place. Would highly recommend
