Food for Friends
The restaurant caters for people with special dietary needs, there are vegan and gluten-free options for many dishes on the menu, as well as freshly baked vegan and gluten-free breads, cakes and scones every day.
Excellent vegetarian food. Not a huge menu, but everything on the menu looked superb. We would certainly return without hesitation.
Had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch which I would strongly recommend others to try!
Delicious vegetarian and vegan food including desserts! Loved having dessert options for once. Varied and innovative options - everything tasted delicious. Relaxed service. Catered for special needs (allergies) really well
Two of us choose the burger as our mains, recipe had been changed but was disappointing , so looking forward to the huloumi and portobello mushroom, please bring back
Had a wonderful time here. It was my girlfriend’s birthday meal and we couldn’t have gone any where better.
Our waitress (Maya) was so friendly and really helped make it a lovely evening.
We have been here many times now and always look forward to coming back again.
Been several times before. Food is vegetarian and well presented but found the dishes this time a bit unbalanced. Couldn't get to the lovely balsamic vinegar through an inch of oil (would be better with half as much in separate dipping bowls). The parfait had more ice cream than parfait and the shortbread crumble made everything a bit gritty. Still it is nice to have a whole menu of veggie and vegan food and like the revamp. Would be nice to have something a bit simpler on the menu for kids.
Excellent veggie food and organic wines . A quiet comfortable restaurant with first class considerate staff .
The food, service and ambience were all brilliant. The kofta was a little spicy for my Dad but we swapped dishes and he loved the blue cheese salad. They made the extra effort for his birthday and we didn’t feel rushed or pressured in any way. All in all a wonderful dinner!
The food here is always interesting. This time we both choose the butternut squash arancini and it was delicious but so filling that we each could only manage to eat 2 of the 3 served, and had to take home the remaining 2 in a doggy bag.
A lovely birthday experience. The shared starter I think was the star of the night. So pleased that we went for that
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Brighton. Great food and service like always!
We have visited several times when in Brighton and we have never been disappointed. This time we came the night before my 50th birthday, the waitress clearly overheard us talking about my birthday and at the end of the meal appeared with chocolates and a happy Birthday in chocolate spread - this was very thoughtful and done so well and much appreciated.
The food was delicious, we had the tofu and the blue cheese with chicory - tofu batter lovely and light and chicory was so fresh! Followed by the halloumi burger which my husband wolfed down and the green curry with absolutely crisp and fresh courgettes and mange tout. Glass of rose’ and a Lazy lizard beer all added up to a very enjoyable experience, highly recommend (I should add that neither of us are vergetarian, we just enjoy the food here)
We so enjoyed our eating experience at Food for Friends. One vegan one vegetarian and flexatarians! The food choice was fab and all of our menu choices tasted fantastic. Service great too.
Lovely little restaurant. We went for lunch and had the sharing platter. Very tasty!
Outstanding quality and service. Nothing was too much trouble. Amazing staff
Lovely and cozy atmosphere, great service and delicious vegetarian food. The tofu starter is to die for - everybody loved it.
Lovely lunch with my daughter. Second visit for me and everything was perfect.
Food For Friends is one of my favourite restaurants in the world. The food is amazing, as is the service.
We visited this restaurant several years ago and were impressed, as not vegetarian and are now interested in trying more options. We were greeted by a very indifferent barman which kind of set the scene - he didn’t really engage at all ( despite effort!) while we waited on a window seat for someone to show us to a table. We shared a bread and olives platter and haloumi to start. but had to ask for some plates to eat it from! Best part of this was the chilli dip. We then both had the Thai curry. The flavour of the sauce was lovely but lacking in content, some of which was stringy. Lovely fig and vodka cocktail, white wine ok but could of been colder. All in all, a bit disappointing and overpriced - and a service charge already added to the bill! Sadly, won’t now be back nor recommend.
An excellent venue for a birthday lunch. The way the space has been divided makes for an intimate setting.
The food and service were excellent- we had the sharing platter, which was amazingly filling. A good selection of wines.
A very pleasant experience.
Great food and accommodated is with 4 kids really well in our own booth out the way.
This is what you lose in a few years. Vegan burger was exceptional in 2013 but now it’s just the same you can have in any restaurant (cheese steak only). Home made?
Waiters were really stress on Sunday. Except bartender who was really professional.
Chips used to be pumpkin.
We thought out food was tasty but nothing special. There are other vegan/vegetarian doing a lot more exiting stuff nowadays. This place seemed a bit safe and boring. The person serving us was great - very friendly. However front of house when we came in were not - they were actually quite offhand. No hello or smiles.
Lovely food, ambiance and service but I thought menu was limited to what it has been in the past with regards vegan options.
Standard of food very high. But limited option available on the night when compared to the web menu.
As Always, Warm welcome followed by very attentive personal service. Fabulous, vegetarian food with a difference. Located in Brighton Lanes and very close to the Lanes Car Park.
Food was nothing special and over priced, service was ok. Not worth the money, had much better for half of the price
We have dined at food for friends on several occasions and we have always found a good choice of menu, ranging from healthy salad to burgers, as this is a vegetarian restaurant they accommodate vegans with a wonderful vegan choice and can veganise other vegetarian dishes. They also have vegan desserts which is something quite hard to find elsewhere. They have a good selection of drinks ranging from cocktails to beer, some excellent wine choices too. Each time we have visited Food for Friends, it has an extremely friendly atmosphere and a pleasure to dine there.
We booked a table at 4.45 on Christmas eve and told we would be welcomed as long as we wanted to be there. We were surprised to be called to check we were still coming,
We arrived and were then rushed through a poor quality meal. Our starters were delivered before we finished our drinks, the starter was good, the main course was very poor.
The table beside us was sprayed with cleaning fluids as we ate. We could hear staff complaining about being at work when they had family at home waiting. We were rushed through and out in an hour.
The manager expressed surprise that our booking was taken at 4.45 when apparently they were only open for lunch on Christmas Eve.
We were given vouchers for less than a third of our bill by the manager who surprisingly told us that was more than she was allowed to do. The vouchers will not cover the cost of a 2 course meal and wine for 2 so it appears we are expected pay more to see if Food for Friends can improve on the last visit.
This was supposed to be a special Christmas Eve dinner. Clearly our booking should never have been taken and we are left having had an expensive poor meal with a totally inadequate response to the problem.
We have been customers at Food for Friends since it open. it appears to have changed hands in July 18. If this is representative of the new Food for Friends it is a shame. There are many good vegetarian restaurants in Brighton sadly this no longer seems to be one of them.
Came for the Christmas Menu as advertised on the website. Sadly this wasn't available, but we still had a great time. Fantastic food and speedy service.
Delicious food, lovely dining atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. I can't wait to return.
Outstanding food and service - thank you. We will be back.
You can be sure of a warm welcome at Brighton's premier veggie restaurant. Imaginative menu with loads of vegan options, all reasonably priced. Menu changes frequently too.
Nice vegetarian food, particularly the soup which was just what we needed on a wet and windy evening. Very friendly and welcoming staff. I wouldn’t have the chocolate and avocado mousse again. It looked and felt right but just tasted of avocado, not chocolate at all. My husband’s ice cream was very good though, and so was the cider.
Excellent would highly recommend and very reasonably
What a wonderfully warm and accommodating restaurant. No wonder it has been in business since 1983. Our server, Amber, was amazing , especially with the children, and, despite being a carnivore myself, the food was extremely tasty and very well presented. I would have like to se a bit more blue cheese in the blue cheese and fig starter, but overall a fabulous dining experience from the ambience, the service, the delicious food and wine.
Will definitely return.
We travelled from the isle of wight just for dinner!!!
Innovative food although a bit heavy on Halloumi dishes. Lovely friendly service.
Food was not as nice as previously, not sure if the chef has changed but wasn’t happy with my main or dessert. I visit Brighton every year and always visit food for friends, this time I did not enjoy the food.
Good food. Bad service
