Food for Friends
The restaurant caters for people with special dietary needs, there are vegan and gluten-free options for many dishes on the menu, as well as freshly baked vegan and gluten-free breads, cakes and scones every day.
Our starters were superb then down hill from there. We had Bun & cauliflower & hummus.
Down hill from there .We were next to the bar .The bar tender cleared the bottles like having dinner next to the bottle bank .The phone kept ringing without being answered. We did ask the 3 staff members chatting at the bar if they would answer it.They said no we cant ! The main course was poor .My husband ate the burger as he was hungry .I would have put it in the bin if I had bought it from a supermarket. The chips were no better than mac Donalds. My main course was laksa underwelming sauce with uncooked veg thrown in& a few hard undercooked noodles. We didnt have pudding as the waiter left us for so long it was time to leave for the show we had booked. My husbands birthday wont be going back .Used to be outstanding .POOR
Food was great, service was great, we had a lovely window seat in the corner and could see all the detail of the window snow-art that was on there for Christmas which was lovely. Unfortunately though after other tables were seated we became a bit locked into that corner as it was a little cramped but apart from that we had a lovely anniversary there. Would definitely come back again!
We enjoyed ourselves a lot. Service was very good. We were surprised that the printed menu did not quite tally with the online menu. The food was good to very good. The falafel starter was excellent. We did think however that the dishes were considerably simpler and safer than they used to be. On the other hand pricing is sensible and fair.
Menu looked great but the actual food was a little bit expensive for the standard received. Tasty but not ‘wow that’s tasty!’, and service was just okay
Lovely experience, wonderful food and cocktails, and a great atmosphere. Reasonable prices for amazing quality, trying to find an excuse to come again as soon as we can!
Every time we go to Brighton, we eat at Food for Friends and it’s always very good
This is one of my favourites restaurants in Brighton. I’ve eaten here many times and never had a bad meal. The beetroot salad and their veggie roast are incredible. The service is great, all the waiters are lovely and the right level of attentive without being intrusive. It is a little pricey, but for me it’s definitely worth it as a treat meal every so often.
My favourite veggie restaurant, always a good experience
Treat for a friends Birthday. Lovely place to enjoy a great veggie menu.
As a long term veggie to go to a restaurant with such a graat choice and really amazing food was an absolute treat!
The food was soooo delicious that we went back again the next day for breakfast! The perfect place to celebrate our anniversary 😊
Loved it. Tastiest food I have had in a long while, sensible pricing and friendly, efficient team. ❤️
We decided to take Swedish son & his girlfriend (who has several allergies) to one of Brighton’s oldest vegetarian restaurants for a special meal. Greeting upon arrival very good, Staff & service really brilliant. BUT what a let down the food was! This is the second time we have felt this way, last time being a couple of years ago. The starters on the whole were good, although the courgette falafels were somewhat lacking in flavour. Then came the mains - the Malaysian dish was just a soup plate full of liquid with very al dente veg: the burger was tasteless beetroot & the slaw was bland, uninteresting & lacking in flavour: the haloumi consisted of a pack of salad leaves & some fried, cubed haloumi (something I could have done myself): the risotto was average. The desserts were super. The bill was not cheap at about £130 which included a bottle of wine. We were disappointed & will not be dining there again. Sorry.
The food and service was very, very good!
Would be great if a recipe book / recipe cards or similar were available. Thinking more to encourage consumption of fresh, easy to come by, healthy ingredients that you would be more than happy to make at home and tell friends about wherever they are in the world... I'd definitely make a special trip to Brighton and book a table again if my overseas friends and relatives came to visit. 😊
Excellent food & service and would recommend this restaurant , I have only been a vegetarian for 3 months and this meal convinced me just how much you can enjoy taste of food and never look back.
Food was average, pretty sure our server was high- not on weed! No no! HIGH. Flickering light was irritating above our heads and the cost for the cost of ingredients was ridiculous.
Took my vegetarian wife here for the first night of our honeymoon, staff were miserable, there was no atmosphere and the food went from bland starters to a really overpowering cashew in the burger which my wife was unable to eat.
I like the fact I know meat hasn't been handled and cooked at this restaurant. I had lovely interior and had a nice vibe. Bit overcrowding but that's understandable as probably have to pay a high rate on building. Food was nice but could have been tastier and attention to detail, I. E selection of condiments provided.
It may be different for lunch.
Very efficient and courteous staff. Food was excellent. We actually arrived early but the staff were happy to accommodate us, Thoroughly recommended.
Good experience
A little bit spicy for me
But helpful waitress served coconut cream which helped a lot.
Amazing food and so many delicious options it was difficult to choose.
We ordered a varied selection of starters between three of us and each dish was tasty, cooked with fresh ingredients and creative.
We were recommended by two friends and we weren’t disappointed. The service was very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. We had bread and olives to start, with a delicious Romesco sauce. Then we both chose the beetroot and lentil wellington, which was amazing, served with chunky roasted veg meant we unfortunately had no room for the fabulous desserts that were passing our table. Highly recommend.
Thank you
Very tasty meal on a Saturday night. Restaurant busy but we were well looked after.
The food was adventurous, and the portion size generous.
Would particularly recommend the cauliflower starter which was delicious and the mushroom main. Also the vegan ice cream was the best we had tasted.
All in all a very good evening.
We’ve been a few times over the years, the food is usually very good but on this occasion it was very average. The risotto was very oily and more like a bowl of extremely salty pumpkin purée. My partner’s burger was dry and burnt and the chips were cold. Our starters were the best part - Thai cauliflower and Arancini. The ambiance and staff were great, just a shame the meal was a disappointment, especially considering how expensive it was.
LOVE this place! Friendly and welcoming staff, nice atmosphere and excellent food! Happy to give 5 stars for almost everything (4 for speed of service, which is a little slow - but everything is freshly made). Our Border Collie was also made welcome (to the little dog-friendly area near the entrance) - and he was given a water bowl. Thoroughly recommend, and look forward to our next visit (-:
Friendly staff - not busy as it was a 3pm booking. Pumpkin risotto to die for and Thai cauliflower fab. The Asian soup wAs a bit watery and became messy and boring.
Always delivers very imaginative vegetarian meals of very good quality and flavours
The food was amazing! Did put down it was a friends birthday which they did not acknowledge which was a shame, however I would definitely go back as the food was that good!
We went for a birthday meal for my mother in law together with our 7 month old baby. Service was amazing, and in my online table booking I had noted that the occassion was for a birthday and that we will have a baby with us. On arrival they had already arranged for the highchair at our table and at the end of our mains they brought a small and lovely birthday message (candle and some chocolate treats). Needless to say my mother in law was over the moon with the gesture and we all had an amazing night.
The food (& cocktails), atmosphere and services throughout were amazing as well. All in all excellent.
Another amazing meal at F for F. The nibbles alone are worth coming for. The tofu is just divine. I’d kill to be able to make tofu like that (although that wouldn’t be very vegan of me!) I had bao buns for starter, which were spicy and tangy, and then my risotto was rich in umami flavours. My partner had the halloumi salad, there was so much halloumi and it melted in the mouth. We couldn’t manage desserts. Such a wonderful meal, can’t wait to return!
Really impressed. I was recommended to it by a friend and I was not disappointed. Service was efficient and friendly, ambience was great and food was awesome. Was happy with the prices again.
Love the building and location too. Will go again.
It was good. This is the 3rd time I have been there recently and this was not as good as the others. The fried cauliflower was not as well done, we had the tagine between us, and it was not hot, but we were not inclined to send it back. It was very tasty. Wine very nice. Only problem was asking to move tables, were seated by the "deliveries only" window which was very claustrophobic. If you must have a table there, take out the opaque coating. Our waitress was not very helpful but another came along and was very amendable to our changing tables, so problem solved. Service good, coffee good. Desserts were tasty (ice cream, and the crumble). You just need to more consistent.
We went out for a Birthday meal. The food and wine was fantastic but the service was slow (ordering food and drinks).
This review is based on one dish - roast cauliflower with peanut satay and other items which I can’t remember. But I do remember it was delicious and satisfying. Also had a proprietary ginger beer which was above average in taste.
I love Food for Friends. Gorgeous food with so many lovely and original vegan options for all courses. Portions not too big so minimal waste. Lovely staff and great location. Perfect!
My previous visits to Food for Friends everything was always top notch, unfortunately, my recent visit fell short. The food wasn’t quite as good difficult to say why precisely, little touches like cucumber in the water which wowed on previous visits didn’t and finally the Ladies toilets needs some TLC one cubicle the Door handle was hanging off.
This is our second visit to Food for Friends, but on this occasion we were extremely disappointed with the food. The starters were very nice, but the let down were the main courses. My mum had the pumpkin risotto that was very overcooked, had an overpowering taste of herbs and spices and no taste of pumpkin. I had the portobello mushroom main course and felt it was a bit bland. My partner had the bean burger and was just average. The saving grace of the evening was the waitress, who was lovely. Unfortunately we will not be returning. The food was much better a few years ago.
I went the very first week it opened back in the day, and it’s still one of the best vegetarian restaurants l have been to. The style of eating has evolved ( no more self service ), but would be happy to eat here any time of the day. Christmas lunch was always the highlight of the year, so am looking forward to trying once again. One very old, happy customer
Excellent food and service. It’s not often you get such flavoursome vegetarian meals and such an ambience and friendly restaurant hosts. Am definitely recommending to London friends who venture to Brighton.
