Food for Friends
The restaurant caters for people with special dietary needs, there are vegan and gluten-free options for many dishes on the menu, as well as freshly baked vegan and gluten-free breads, cakes and scones every day.
Amazing Veggie food!!!! :-) the service is lovely too, it can get a bit noisy at time as it is a smallish restaurant however definitely worth the experience !!
One of the best (if not the best!) places in Brighton and Hove for delicious Vege cuisine, the menu is fabulous, the ambience very friendly, it's really long-standing, and always delivers on excellence:)
Lovely restaurant, great atmosphere. Gluten free menu which is really helpful. Adventurous menu and very tasty food. Have been three times and will return no doubt.
Great food. Took a while to arrive though. Squeezed onto a tiny table that made balancing a few plates on it like a game of jenga!
Delicious, well presented food, excellent service. We were given the ‘snug’ table which we had requested so very happy with my experience.
Had been a while since we ate at Food for Friends, very impressed with the current menu and food quality and presentation was wonderful. Menu choices even kept my non vegetarian husband happy
Great service and seriously amazing veggie food. The thai cauliflower starters were our favourite. Must-go in Brighton!
We loved the food and would deffo go back again, being someone who isnt veggie it was really nice to see hwat being veggie has to offer
Great place to eat. I went with friends who were visiting. Had a great table by the window. Only criticism is that we had to ask for drinks menu. Food was lovely and just the right portion size. Would definitely recommend.
I always love this restaurant and have travelled from London especially. I rate a place on how memorable the food is.
Previously the food has been memorable. I mean spectacular.
This time it was good, I mean tasty and nothing wrong but something has changed and the edge has gone.
Their Scotch eggs were magical, and now are okay.
Plus they’ve removed a wrap from the menu that was literally the reason I drove from London.
I not saying it’s bad. The service etc is wonderful.
But the food has changed and I won’t make the effort again.
It was ordinary and lovely but it used to be extraordinary.
We returned to Food for Friends after a long absence of many years, and were pleasantly surprised by the changes. The food we had was excellent and well presented. We look forward to visiting again soon.
Would definitely recommend the small bites to share
Food is delicious and beautifully prepared, if a bit pricey. Early seatings better as most popular dishes sell out early. Seating and ambiance are nice but the tables are quite tightly packed.
I wasn't that impressed bu the food. I had a tagine with buckwheat and another grain which were cold, but plonked on top was a piece of focaccia which was unnecessary.
My friend had a burger, the bun was burnt and the burger overcooked.
What I was most irritated by was the fact that I had booked a table for two and stated that it was a special occasion (my friend's retirement.) We were shown to the smallest most cramped table imaginable.
When I complained, the waitress was a bit huffy and told us that we'll have to wait. They did find us a much more suitable table but it was clear that other tables were available when we arrived.
I won't be going again.
The sharing platter was excellent; the halloumi salad very nice. Service was good, the table was awkwardly placed - there was a step that didn't allow the chair to fit in comfortably, and the music was intrusive.
Overall this was a really good meal out. The food was delicious and the restaurant was busy but not crowded. The service was a tiny bit slow, although our serve was excellent.
Delicious, filling & really inventive veggie food. Often veggie places can be a bit scruffy or rustic but this is the place to go for a smart, up market meal. Have wanted to go here for ages & it didn't disappoint. Will definitely be back!
Birthday lunch with my wife who wanted to try ‘gourmet vegetarian’ prepared by experts, so I booked FFF. Online booking worked superbly, and although we arrived 20 minutes early were warmly welcomed and seated. The food did not disappoint, with a menu covering a wide range of dishes and was simply delicious. The wine choice - by the glass or bottle, was also excellent. We had - Crispy Tofu, Artisan breads with oils and relishes, Portobello Mushroom and Tagine mains, wines by the glass and coffees. A great lunch! We both loved the food and restaurant, and appreciated the unexpected birthday cookies treat. Service was exemplary, being friendly and attentive despite a very busy lunchtime. Well worth the time to experience excellent vegetarian cuisine.
Came here as a recommendation from a friend. Checked afterwards and turns out the recommendation was a good few years out of date. I’m sure this place used to be good but it seems to be coasting on whatever goodwill it built up in the past.
Not a hello or smile from the hostess as we walked in. Fine. Everyone has a bad day. But she seemed genuinely annoyed when I asked if we could move one table along away from a big group. There were plenty of empty tables.
Astonishingly though the food is NOT good and in no way represents good modern day vegan cooking. Perhaps 10 years ago this was cutting edge but now tastes worse than supermarket vegan options. Only the Thai cauliflower offered something representing a great flavourful dish. Burger was bad. Laska making up for lack of flavour with spiciness.
Gives me no pleasure to write this as I had been really looking forward to this place based on word of mouth. Sadly it’s well past it’s prime.
Food for Friends is one of my favourite restaurants, as a vegetarian it is a delight to be able to choose from the menu, and the food is always good. Living two and a half hours away from Brighton I look forward to my yearly visit just so I can come to this restaurant and it never disappoints. I am looking forward to next years visit. Pretty restaurant, great food, fab service. Thank you, see you next year
I’ve been coming here for years and after moving to Cornwall, I was really looking forward to our visit. Sadly, the restaurant is on the decline. Our food took forever to arrive. The burger was ok, a bit like a homemade black bean burger, but inferior to the many vegan burgers now available in supermarkets. The laksa was very spicy, which was great, but it was mostly broth with very little veg. or noodle. I suspect the delay was caused by the kitchen running out and they diluted the dish with more broth to feed us.
The restaurant was not as busy as previous visits, so maybe other customers have decided not to return.
Food was delicious, can’t fault the food. Sadly cut our meal short seated next to a couple of young families, in the rear of the restaurant. It was too noisy for our date night so we skipped pudding.
Service alittle slow for an early Saturday evening. But great job on the menu
Very enjoyable meal on Saturday 14th September. Service was friendly and food was delicious. Would go again.
Always great food and Arleta looked after us really well
My previous experiences of FFF have been very good but something was definitely amiss on the evening I visited with a friend and we found it very disappointing. We arrived on time at 7.45 and gave our order at around 7.55, for a shared starter of hummus and warmed flatbread followed by a Malaysian Laksa for me and a risotto for my friend. By 8.30, having been in the restaurant for 45 minutes, our starter hadn’t arrived. We enquired and were told the restaurant had become “inexplicably busy” and our starter had been delayed. Our section of the restaurant was actually only half-full, so that seemed an odd explanation, particularly given how easy it is to make hummus and warmed flat bread, but we were understanding. By 8.45, the starter had still not arrived. I asked the man on reception, who happened to be nearby, and he told us our starter had been given to another table!! I said okay, but how long does it take to prepare hummus and flatbread and surely another could be quickly prepared? He was not particularly friendly or apologetic, but did say my wine would be on the house as a gesture of goodwill (my friend not drinking). The hummus finally arrived at 8.50. The mains arrived afterwards in a timely fashion, although my laksa not very “substantial” for a main course, and my friend’s risotto very stodgy. I ordered a dessert as I was still hungry, which was very good. When the bill came, we had to send it back as they hadn’t deducted the drinks as they said they would. As we departed, despite the disappointing experience, we smiled and said thank you to the man on reception. His farewell could only be described as “frosty”. Hardly bothered to say goodbye, no further apologies for the appalling service and no smile. Given that we had been very polite, even when complaining about our no-show food, I thought a friendlier reaction would have been in order. As a result, we will not be going back, which is a shame as it’s always been so reliable.
Food was great. Service not so good. Not friendly, sat two other groups down after us and served them water and drinks before even coming to us. Waitress could hardly crack a smile. Terrible
We enjoyed a fabulous evening and dinner at Food for Friends. The food was delicious - so many great menu options it was hard to choose. Beautiful building, great ambience including the uplifting background music. Service was fantastic. We’re already looking forward to visiting again!
Very disappointed that the menu had not changed so far as mains were concerned since our last visit. Burger was not the best and not worth the money. Service not as good as previously and no sooner had we paid our bill we were told the table was required by others even though there was an empty table next to us. We paid the service charge but did not feel the service we had warranted this in full. Overall not up to standards we had previously experienced and not minded to rush to book again for a while
Always excellent, top quality Vegetarian and Vegan food
My partner booked as a birthday meal, we took our 1year old, staff were brilliant and had high chair already set out there was a definite vibe with other diners that children weren't welcome despite a 4.30 reservation.
Food was amazing, service great would recommend.
Great service, lovely food, and friendly staff
Lovely food and good service. Although I booked some weeks ago we were originally put in the smallest, darkest uncomfortable table and had to be asked to be moved. Would recommend this table is only used for your diners in emergencies.
The food was decent but not quite as good as I expected. I anticipated fine dining but this was more like good pub food.
Lovely vegie food and friendly attentive service, but we had a ridiculously tiny table, could hardly fit everything on it ! And the decor/ambience was a bit boring. Def still recommend it just for the food and service.
Always a good bet for great food at a very reasonable price. Delicious vegetarian food will appeal to even the most dedicated carnivores. Full and exotic flavours, great portion size and wide range of options make this an absolute treat. Good wine list with lots of organic options. Service was very good.
Lovely food, friendly staff and really cute place. It was my BFs birthday and they help make it very special with their birthday platter :)
Gorgeous food in chic, stylish surroundings. Will definitely be going back next season to try their latest menu!
Tofu was delicious, I thought my mango salad had a bit too much dressing and chilli in it but that’s personal preference. Very nice waitress lovely restaurant.
We were really impressed with the restaurant which we chose to visit for my sons birthday on a day trip to Brighton. The staff were great and the food was lovely. Such a good choice!
Had a lovely evening here - great food and atmosphere - with very friendly and helpful service.
