Food for Friends
The restaurant caters for people with special dietary needs, there are vegan and gluten-free options for many dishes on the menu, as well as freshly baked vegan and gluten-free breads, cakes and scones every day.
Had a delicious pre theatre dinner here on Monday July 15th. Service was pretty good but the girls seemed to be working the hardest! I had risotto which was a touch too salty for my palette but in all other respects was super. The crumble dessert was beautifully presented and tasty gorgeous. My husband chose the tahini which he wolfed down.
The only grumble would be the state of the loos. Not up to standard.
Could not of been better. second time there and brilliant
Lunch with a best friend is always going to be great but when combined with the amazing food at Food For Friends it made for a fabulous afternoon. As there is so much choice we selected a variety of small plates so that we could try out a few different dishes. There was plenty on each plate and each dish was superb, amazing flavours, more than enough for both of us and we tried some new options that I will definitely indulge in again.
staff very efficient and friendly. Food very tasty and nicely presented. Loved that we never felt rushed and there was plenty of time between courses.
Excellent as always!
Wonderful food, superb atmosphere and helpful staff!
Absolutely amazing food, wonderful service and really lovely place. Would highly recommend
We have eaten here a few times before, never with a booking but somehow they have always managed to squeeze us in. This time we booked in advance and took our friends whom had travelled from Exeter and were looking for something exceptional for vegetarians. They got it.
It is really an amazing vegetarian / vegan place. Good for couple. Romantic and elegant.
A really poor wine selection. Starters were lovely far too large, so didn't go for any pudding. Bar far the worst aspect was being shoe-horned on to the smallest table in the place which was in the main corridor. It was a shame as the food is reasonable and well priced.
Delicious sharing plates and nibbles, only somewhat let down by salads which were a bit average compared to the rest of the food.
Its been a year since I've visited and I'm trying to work out why I've waited so long. Really excellent meal, full of flavours and so many options. I cannot wait to go back and it won't take me a year to do so
Outstanding food. Very kind to folks having a birthday
Even though they lost our order and we waited 40 mins for starters the food was so good and the staff responded appropriately we’d definitely go back.
The food was delicious and wonderful staff. Definitely recommend and will return
We enjoyed our meal so much we went back for breakfast on the Sunday morning!
Lovely lunch with friends. Food all looked and tasted wonderful. Good value for money.
Absolutely faultless food and service. Lovely special touch for birthday lunch. And dog-friendly outside! Love the place!
Great food. Service took slightly longer than expected but overall still very good
Food for friends is one of my favourite restaurants in Brighton. Amazing food, good service and a lovely atmosphere! I highly recommend it 😊
The breakfast menu is fantastic, evening menu a bit of a let down compared to previous visits. Plate size reduced and quantity disappointing, again compared to previous visits. The chips are now French fry size, used to be chunky and plentiful. Over priced.
Was great for me as need gluten free, fantastic tasty food!
Very good food but terrible service. We ordered starters to share and main meals for each of us. Only one of the starters was brought out and we didn't get the main meals for over an hour after that. We then ordered desserts but never received them. In the end we left after 2.5 hours. When we received the bill,it included items which we hadn't been provided with so that had to be amended. It also included a service charge which was a bit of a joke.
Good interesting food. Service longer than I expected.
Very easy and relaxed
We just had a nice time
The starters were very nice, but the main was quite mediocre. A very oiley tagine with no real hint of fruit or spice. Somehow the salted caramel and chocolate tart was almost entirely flavourless. Probably because the chocolate doesn't really melt in your mouth, so you have to chew it. I ate it all of course, becuase I'm a glutton, but for £40 pp that's quite disappointing.
Beautiful food very friendly welcome and service pleasant ambience
The starter - platter was fantastic. Didn’t overly enjoy the Malaysian curry with noodles but that was probably just my bad choice rather than any critics my of food quality. Enjoyed the overall experience. Thanks
I had the Sunday roast and it was so delicious!!
A warm welcome and friendly service. Comfy bucket chair seating. The background music was not intrusive. We started with the sharing platter, a delightful and inventive mix of textures and flavours. Then we had the special Father's Day roast. This was a vegetarian take on beef Wellington that came with assorted vegetables and was enjoyed by all four of us. This was ample and we had no appetite left for dessert.
My favourite restaurant:)
Always superb, imaginative and beautifully presented. we love it every time we return.
Great food exceptional service and food
We were really squashed in, no room to move the chairs, so it wasn’t a very comfortable date. I’ve been a few times before and had recommended it, so this was disappointing.
Also, there seemed to be much less that I liked the look of on the menu. It’s much reduced. I ended up having two small plates, which were ok.
It’s a shame as I’ve always loved coming previously.
It took a while to be able to ask for a second glass of wine each too.
Really good food. Didn’t realize I’m eating vegetables the whole time. The cauliflower salad was amazing
Having tried many times to eat here without Booking, never succeeded, so booked our breakfast slot to find the place quite empty, but that’s ok
Menu was tempting and prices seemed fair, we had two lovely egg based options. The the portions were generous and well presented.
Staff were courteous and attentive when needed, left us to enjoy our food.
Only criticism was the background music, but it just wasn’t to our taste (sounded like Eurovision style ballads), didn’t spoil the visit at all though, kept us chatting.
Will make sure we always book on future as we will certainly return.
Gone downhill since the new owners took over. Poorly presented food and not that good.
We visit Food For Friends at least twice a year and as usual the food we ate was excellent. However there are a couple of things that have declined since last time. Firstly the choice of 2nd plates were rather pedestrian, a burger, a risotto, a Halloumi/tofu salad, we expect something innovative from FfF. The 1st plates were where the innovation seem to have gone, so two of us had 2x 1st plates, not a problem very enjoyable (if a little crowded on the table) but the expression from the staff which delivered it seem to indicate we'd committed a sin! Additionally our sides turned up so late we'd forgotten them, taken off the bill without asking but still....
Myself and the people with me agreed that this was one of the best meals we’d ever had! Everything was flavourful and beautifully presented - we particularly enjoyed the sharing platter, which was a perfect starter for 4 people. The staff were also very friendly and asked us questions about how things were going, and checked for allergies/dietary requirements beforehand.
Would definitely visit again!
This restaurant is simply wonderful.. I drove to Brighton specifically to eat there. The food is memorable with flavours that play on your palette. I sincerely cannot recommend it highly enough. I have eaten all over the world in Michelin Stared restaurants, but I think this place is better. I cannot wait to go again..
We were seated at a table with constant (people) traffic passing even though the restaurant at that point wasn’t busy. We had to request the menu for soft drinks.
We shared a starter of humous with flatbread which was ok. I ordered a black bean burger which was fairly unpleasant , it was claggy and stuck to the roof of my mouth. I left half of it, a shame as it cost £15, excessive for a not very nice vegetarian burger. My companion had a fig and blue cheese small plate but was unable to identify the brown gunge on the bottom of the plate. She assumed it was fig but it didn’t taste of such.
We shared a hot banana cake for dessert which would have been better and less rubbery if it hadn’t been heated in a microwave.
All in all, a disappointing meal, a shame as we have had good food there in the past.
