I strongly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. The Food, Service and friendly of the staff made for a wonderful Lunch. The quality of food is outstanding. I shall definitely be returning.
Excellent food great service fantastic welcome brilliant staff looking forward to our next visit !!!
Friendly and helpful staff. Food was good except for steamed pudding which wasn't cooked. I should have complained but by then the wine and birthday cheer had taken their toll and I didnt want to end on a winge. I would recommend with some reservations.
Visited for Saturday brunch, received a warm and friendly welcome. Food was excellent and salmon delicious. Looking forward to visiting again.
Wonderful food, the main could have been a little warmer, but beautifully cooked. Service was great. Could do with better signage to find it, slightly remote location.
The restaurant is an airy, open space, a mix of modern and homely and surprising in the area in which it stands. The service was smooth, efficient yet unobtrusive. The food was exceptional. The London-cure smoked salmon was probably the best I've ever tasted and made a delightful start to the meal. My wife and I both opted for the turbot for the main course. Turbot is rightly known as one of the best fish and it was cooked to perfection. Three beautiful pieces of fish, each served on a portion of creamy mashed potato and accompanied by clams and perfectly cooked scallops. For dessert I had the banana and cream tart with coconut ice cream which was delightful.
What a delight to find a restaurant which only serves English wines. We had a fresh sauvignon blanc type from Kent which was a great accompaniment to the meal.
All in all, a truly memorable evening to celebrate my wife's birthday. She considered it one of the best meals ever. I agreed with her and thought that it was also excellent value for money.
Absolutely lovely experience, the staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was beautifully fresh .
Would love to visit again next time I’m in London .
We love it at Formans, the food and service are excellent, as is the restaurant location overlooking the River Lea Navigation. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Service was very attentive and efficient however we were surprised that our elderly uncle could not be served some simple dishes which appeared on the menu (mash potato and fish fingers) this was very inflexible and not customer focussed. The menu was seriously under-described in respect of ingredients used - no allergy advice for example. Overall we enjoyed it but it could have been much better and we were lucky that some of the dishes did not contain cheese or shellfish.
Lovely restaurant with nice staff and an interesting menu. I had the black pudding brunch which was excellent.
Everything was perfect - food was cooked to perfection, and quantities very large for this type of restaurant. A good selection of English wines. And staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient (particularly Jessie who served us). Thank you Forman's - we'll be there agin.
Second visit-tried brunch previously -both were most enjoyable-a hidden gem
Great seafood choice on menu and portions were generous. Really enjoyed the food. Excellent wine menu full of British wines at very reasonable prices. Wonderful service and very pleasant experience. Shame more people haven't discovered this gem of a restaurant!
Everything is perfect in this restaurant....i like the food....service is very high quality...price is normal...atmosphere is great !!!
Great location friendly service some seriously good food with some of the best smoked salmon ever. Portions gargantuan. On the negative side the daily special of salmon trout was over cooked, the dish pretty bland and the feedback elicited very little by way of response. Interesting to have s wine list of only English wine. A bit more advice would have been helpful here. Not cheap so should focus on quality rather than quantity.
Me and my dad went to formans , because my dad saw an documentary in the German television about it.
The atmosphere and Ambiente was really great. Service was very Kind and polite . We booth had the Scottish salmon , and it was outstanding .
Pricing and ambiance is not in keeping with current London standards. Food was not hot when it arrived at the table.
Great service from all the staff and the food quality and presentation were outstanding. We will definitely be going back.
We went to Formans for my husbands birthday and had a great time. Really unusual and special food - make sure you’re a fish lover although there are loads of alternatives - it’s just that the salmon is SO good! Only downside was it was a bit quiet - we were the only people left at 9pm!
Starters were old/off. That shouldn't happen with seafood anyway but certainly not at high prices. Contacted the restaurant about this but no reply. Mains were great and have had good meals here before so possibly this was an exception.
We had a lovely table by the window. The cocktails were very good & it was unusual to see a wine menu of English wines, the one we chose was very good.
The smoked salmon starters were excellent & tasted totally different from regular shop bought salmon.
We all opted for a nest main course, my beef was delicious.
For dessert my friends all opted for the Express creme brûlée but I had the special of warm chocolate tart with ice cream which was delicious.
Our waitress was very charming & despite the fact that it was not very busy , there was a nice atmosphere.
If you’re unfamiliar with the area, Hackney Wick overground station is only about a 7 minute walk away.
Lunch with family lovely restaurant excellent staff
Both the food and drink were excellent - would happily recommend.
Delicious salmon sharing platter, very good value with good portions and an excellent variety of salmon.
The main courses are generous, succulent salmon steak perfectly cried. The lamb was also excellent.
The Golden syrup desert was a real treat and a fun take on pudding.
You can comfortably share a starter and a desert and still be filled. Cocktails were reasonably priced. Service was prompt and polite. The space feels open with large windows facing onto the canal.
You can look out over the salmon smoker from a gallery window which is interesting.
The food was superb and the restaurant was comfortably busy. Service was good, if the restaurant was located in a more popular area it would be much busier! Great evening enjoyed by my wife and I.
It was interesting to go from the commercial Fish Island street into such a stylish restaurant. The food and service were very good and l was impressed by the wide range of English wines on offer. It was my daughter’s birthday and we were given free glasses of sparkling wine, a nice surprise. Lastly it was easy to park on the street directly outside at no cost.
Wasn’t obvious on the website that they only serve a brunch menu on Saturday. Staff were lacklustre. One of the waitresses dropped cutlery accidentally on the table but didn’t say sorry, despite it almost hitting my guest.
Always a sense of achievement when one finds Formans restaurant. The staff couldn't be more helpful. We went un the stairs to enter then down in the lift after eating. The salmon shared starter was the highlight of the meal. Main courses fine and the relatively expensive British wine well one feels patriotic. It all makes a good evening outing. Then back by uber to Stratford.
The quality of food is extraordinary! Dover Sole was amazing!
We really enjoyed our lunch at Formans. All the meals were very good with an exception of my carrot cake which was a bit dry, hence 4 stars. I also loved the location and the space itself - the restaurant is overlooking the canal and the Olympic Park.
A bit quiet for a Friday night but food and service were superb.
Lovely restaurant. Great food and interesting English wine list. Recommend highly.
Absolutely fabulous food. Will definitely recommend and return.
Such a lovely place a real hidden gem! Can't wait to go back. Staff and good was amazing x
Great setting, lovely food
The food quality and presentation was great. The service was a tad inattentive but the staff were courteous and knowledgeable. Our only gripe was that we had a seat for two next to the window and another couple were seated next to us, when the rest of the restaurant was half empty. This did somewhat spoil our dining experience.
We really enjoyed our meal. Food is simple, and well cooked and presented in generous portions. My smoked eel starter (got to have smoked fish at Foraman's) was delicious, and the turbot main also good.
Service was excellent. We liked the resonablu ppriced all British wine list.
Surprised there were so few people on a Saturday night. Definitely the place to take someone for good British food without going for Olde Englishe hype
It started so well with amazing starters, the best smoked salmon I have ever had and my Dad had a fantastic risotto. The staff were friendly but service was not great, took 15min to answer a question about what had cream in and three mains came out but we had to wait for the forth.
My main complaint however is that all the four mains were Really poor and that’s being generous, the fish cake could have come from Iceland!
Deserts not great either, all such a shame after such a good start.
If you go maybe just have a few starters.
Really nice lunch on a Sunday with friends!
