Our waitress did not speak English which it made difficult. But the restaurant is gorgeous and the food was very good!
We are fans of F&M Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon this we guest you already know, but this time something was missing, maybe too many people, but I know that the service was just not what we are used to. Maybe something needs to change or introduced, something new on the menu or different table setting. We are sure with the personnel you have they will certainly come up with a little something extra. Just a suggestion, we shall of course will always come over for our special tea.
It took about 45 mins for us to receive a drink, was v slow.
The food was absolutely incredible, lovely flavours and everything tasted really fresh. The main thing that let down the experience was the service, it was very slow. We had to wait a really long time for our tea, we had completely finished our sandwiches before our first pots even arrived! When the stand with the food was brought out the waiter didnt explain anything about the contents, so it was a bit of a guessing game. We had to wait a long time for even the simplest request (water took 20 minutes to come), and finally when we had some sandwiches that we wanted to take away we were told that because they were savoury it was against health and safety! It could have been a great afternoon tea but was massively left down by the service.
Very poor experience. We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation and were asked to be seated on a sofa to wait for our table. No problem, we were early. We then were left waiting for 20 minutes as we watched various other groups be seated before us, who arrived later than us. After enquiring at the desk, it transpired we had been forgotten about. We got a quick apology and said it would be noted to their manager. 5 minutes later we were finally seated in a nice window seat, however next to 3 uncleared tables. Not a great environment. We were then served a glass of water, however then had to wait 20 minutes for a tea pot even though we ordered pretty much instantly from being seated. Food then arrived however the server had no idea what the pastries were, and basically guessed. We were told everything served was replenishable however trying to find a server to replenish was another matter. On average we asked for everything we wanted 3 times. Our water was never once refilled. Food was average. At the end of the meal I refused to pay the service charge but even then never had a manager apologise or enquire further. Very disappointing for the price point. We had chosen Fortnum and Mason for our anniversary celebrations as a trusted brand, would not recommend. We probably sound like really hard work, but we are 2 of the most easy going people you could ever meet. Go elsewhere.
The food was lovely but honestly the service was quite poor. We seemed to have been left in a corner and forgotten. Our server switched between our seating without telling us and our new person was not attentive. Never checked on us. We had to ask our original person for a refresh of tea and a few more items. He seemed confused and almost annoyed to be helping us. Couldn’t get a refresh on water. Took forever and sort of ruined the experience. I have been here several times but think I will be recommending a new tea room the next time I have guests visiting after this experience.
Service is bad
The table was booked for birthday celebration with special request wrote on the open table’s booking app. Disappointingly nothing has been done for the birthday occasion and we’d been kept waiting for an hour for the afternoon tea to actually arrive on the table. Dissatisfy with the waiting time which has ruined our plan afterward.
The restaurant is beautiful and the ambiance is wonderful. Couldn’t ask for a more perfect English tea experience. Yes it’s pricy but it’s worth every penny. They will bring you as much of anything that you want and send you home with a box of goodies. We were there for my sons 13th birthday and they made it really special. I would go again in a heartbeat.
Our experience at Fortnum and Mason was not bad but definitely not up to par considering how much you are spending for tea and finger sandwiches. However, it truly is the experience that you are paying for so that was not the issue. The issue was we were seated almost immediately but were completely ignored for 20 minutes after being seated. We were not even offered water. I finally requested to speak with a manager. The manager was argumentative with us but did inform us that they were busy. I politely informed him we just wanted to make sure we weren’t doing something wrong and that we hadn’t been forgotten about since 20 minutes before even being offered water is a bit ridiculous for such a high end place. However, once the waiter arrived he was EXCELLENT. Sam was informative, friendly and professional. In large part because of Sam, we enjoyed the rest of our experience very much. It is not a bad place to go for tea, however, if they plan on charging guests what they are then they need to provide the level of service that goes along with the price. Also I let the manager know at the end how wonderful our waiter was only to receive a snide remark in return about the waiter “redeeming” himself. Very unprofessional, especially considering the waiter did nothing wrong. Although I won’t go back, it was overall a good experience thanks to Sam.
I have always heard that this was the best tea and wanted to try it for a special occasion. It was delicious, with an incredible amount of selections of tea, and more cakes than we could eat. With the caveat that it was the busiest tourist time I have seen in a while in London, it was very crowded, which would not have been an issue except that the servers - while very accommodating and friendly - seemed overwhelmed, and it was difficult to get someone to attend to us at all. I am hoping that was just due to the unusual tourist traffic. The noise level was high, if that is an issue for you, although it had a lovely live piano player that was worth the extra noise for sure.
As always F&M continue to retain their amazing quality.
Birthday celebration. Good value
Beautiful surroundings, delightful pianist, fabulous cocktails and a great and varied selection of sandwiches and cakes that were topped up throughout and we even got given boxes of additional cake to take home. A wonderful way to spend the afternoon!
Daughters 7ths birthday treat
Lovely venue and what was particularly impressive was the range of afternoon tea options available - we mixed and matched (savoury afternoon tea and afternoon high tea) and got the best of both worlds!! The service was great and setting lovely and laid back. Thoroughly recommended.
Excellent service, fabulous food and an absolute must if visiting London!
Best afternoon tea ever!
Truly appalling experience. The waitress paid us no attention and had to be flagged down. The food was meh. Way to expensive for what it is and doesn't live up to the portrayal of a luxury afternoon tea.
There are much better, cheaper places in London for good quality afternoon tea.
We were expecting a pleasant experience, but the expectations were met and surpassed. After a few minutes wait we were introduced to our table and we were not disappointed. Great service and lovely food. It is not unexpensive, but we didn't find it stuffy and overpretentious like some of the reviews we read beforehand. Definitely a great experience. If something negative is to be found is the fact tou have to reconfirm the reservation by telephone, which is unpractical while coming from abroad.
Really disappointed with my latest visit. The front of house staff were incredibly slow & uncommunicative. We had to wait for our table for 30 minutes despite being told it would be 'ready in 5 minutes' multiple times. We were not kept updated as to why we were not being seated and when pressed they finally explained that the people at the table before us were taking a bit longer and they had to wait for them to pay the bill and re-lay the table. It would have been great and completely not an issue if they had told us this at the start, but when we were eventually seated, it was clear the table had been empty the whole time, just not cleared, as we could see whilst we had been waiting. Our waiter was lovely and very accommodating, but the service overall was a real disappointment. Half the teas were forgotten, and by the time they were remembered they came to the table lukewarm and over stewed and were sent back again. We had to try very hard to get attention for water and refills. All in all a really disappointing expensive experience that has lost it's shine as a wonderful London Institution. A huge disappointment all round.
This was a wonderful way to remember our visit to London. Food was so delicious, exceptional service!! I would highly recommend a stop here for an afternoon tea if you are in the city!!
I booked online through open table which was easy and convenient to do. However, I missed a call 5 days before our booking date, then received a message online asking if I still wanted the booking and I clicked that I did that I did and I received a message confirming the booking once more. The day before our afternoon tea another similar online message arrived which required confirmation from me that I still wanted to keep the booking. I clicked on that many times, but there was no acknowledgement, but warnings that the table might not be kept for me if I didn't respond, and that I could be charged for the afternoon tea as well.
The phone number given on my answer phone four days earlier didn't connect. I found a different number and the person answering the phone confirmed that they had received my confirmation.
The afternoon tea was planned for a dear friend of mine over many decades and it was special due to her significant birthday and I didn't appreciate the rush of messages asking if I still wanted the booking beforehand, and especially for a system that didn't acknowledge my response.
The afternoon tea was wonderful
Usually perfect. This time the service was rubbish. Incorrect bill, forgot our order, no doggy bag. Would not want to go back if that had been the first time. Food is great, though. For the price, it needs to be perfect.
The service was wonderful and the food delicious. There was many things to choose from and refillable so you can have more of your favorites. Only wish I didn’t get full so quickly. The scones are excellent.
A fantastic afternoon expirience including an option for a gluten free version. Magnificent decor and ambience even when it is very busy. I recommend everyone at least to experience this.
We enjoyed ourselves, but for the money, the service should be more attentive and the food should be fresher. We sat with empty teapots for forty minutes trying to get someone’s attention.
Very nice location. The place is beautiful and oh so British. This wasn't my first time having tea here and I was a little disappointed. As a single person I didn t feel that welcome anymore
Tea was as good as usual. Fantastic scones and sandwiches. Although I asked 3 times for tapped water and I m still waiting for it
I expected to be offered my cake before leaving but if hadn't asked for it I wouldn't have had it though it was included in the price. So...?A mistake?...I give it the benefit of the doubt.....this time
Overall a nice experience.
High tea is a fabulous respite from busy days of touring. We dearly love a stop at Fortnum & Mason to pick up gifts and see the lovely seasonal delicacies. This year we added tea to our visit. Our server was unfamiliar with the drink menu, which seemed unusual at a tea salon. Our food was brought by multiple different servers, none who stopped to describe or check in with us. We were left to feel as though we were a bother. The scones were marvelous, light and perfect texture. The desserts, if described would have been more enjoyable. The tea service was well worn, as was the energy by the wait staff. Service is such an essential part of afternoon tea, I will definitely look elsewhere for my respite on my next visit to London.
The level of service was not satisfying. They forgot some of the orders, forgot to present the food, and it was hard to get the staffs attention. F&M can not live only on the famous history. On this price level they have to deliver excellent service again and again. This time they didn't. The food was at a level we expected, not more, not less.
Complaint raised with customer service already. Staff treated our table differently to others - no refill of our tea occurred until the 3rd request.
Very good food and tea. Unfortunately when we asked for a refill of tea we had to wait for over 30 minutes though we reminded the waiters about three times. The tea salon is large and pretty noisy and the waiters seemed stressed out. So I would probably not come to Fortnum and Mason again.
I had a lovely experience and really appreciated that my friend and I could order different kinds of afternoon tea which had unlimited hot water and food which we could share. The atmosphere was elegant with a live pianist playing at the entrance.
Adam our server was very kind to accommodate to our last minute request - it was my mom’s birthday last week. Adam brought us a delicious cake and sang a song for her. The whole experience was unforgettable! Thank you, Adam and F&M for the delightful afternoon.
Considering the hype, the crowds, and the price, this is one of the most disappointing teas I have had in London or elsewhere. F&M makes great tea, but what good is that if the people making it don’t know how much to use, how to brew it, or how to serve it. Weak tea with skim milk??? Sandwiches were fine but sweets were gooey and overly sweet. Service was not polished. china is beautiful but room is somewhat disappointing. For the price you can get two teas in many a nice place nearby. Skip it.
Impeccable service. Delicious food. The sandwiches are very tasty, especially the coronation chicken. The little cakes were exquisite and the lemon curd is to die for!
My family was forced to wait by front desk woman concierge approx 30 min even we have a reservation and on time.
Our waiter was good but a little careless.
We have learnet how to use the time in such an atmosphere.
Staffs were not that good although food and tea were good.
Lovely atmosphere and staff , Shame we had to wait 40 mins to receive any tea , which unfortunately came up not very hot , the food however was excellent.
A fun thing to do in London! Our family enjoyed the experience.
