The reception staff were very accommodating as my friend had brought two maids with her, which I had not anticipated when making the reservation. They found us a larger table without us having to wait too much longer, which was very nice of them. However, the room, whilst prettily decorated, lacked genuine ambience. Our server was friendly and very helpful. The food was mediocre. The bread on some of the sandwiches was dry. The scones were nice, but the sweets were unappealing. I won’t return soon, if at all. It just wasn’t worth the £280.00 for four adult portions and one child’s portion.
The presentation is beautiful and the chocolate cake at the end was delicious. Other than that, pretty lackluster. My tea was steeped too long because the leaves aren’t removed, the service wasn’t great, and there was a hair in our to-go box.
Excellent service, excellent food quality and excellent atmosphere. I was not expecting free replenishment on any of the food items, which was pleasantly surprising (a feature which I availed myself of, once). My wife is Gluten intolerant and I could honestly not taste the difference between her bread and mine. She said it was the best GF bread she’d ever taste and I agree.
So disappointing - there are much better afternoon tea experiences in London to choose from. It was very crowded, i had a waitress keep tripping over my chair leg the tables were so squeezed together, the service was laughably slow - we waited for our tea (twice) for ages. Given they're charging similar prices to the best hotels where the service is much better, avoid this. Two years ago this was a special experience - now its a scrum.
Scones were fantastic. Staff were lovely but service was quite slow.
Fortnum and Mason has such a reputation for quality that it is a shame that our experience of the tea salon was not more positive. Despite booking well in advance for our visit we were left waiting for over half an hour for a table. The staff were apologetic and did give us complimentary glasses of champagne for the inconvenience but unfortunately the ‘promised’ exceptional service to make up for the poor start never actually materialised. Regrettably the ordering was slightly hurried with not enough time to peruse the menu and despite requesting additional plates of savouries at least twice they never arrived. The food was of a good quality but none of it had the wow factor I would have expected from F&M. An adequate visit, let down by time delays and service and unfortunately not one I would recommend.
Beautiful setting. It was extremely busy and we did have to ask for the jam & cream for our scones as this was not bought to our table. Not sure how you share 5 pastries with 2 people, should there have been 6?
Overall a lovely experience and would book again
Great Gluten free Afternoon tea, cakes were delicious!
A delightful experience! A must special treat that should be enjoyed atleast once!
I took my sister to London for the first time and wanted to treat her to afternoon tea. The waitress Kelly was absolutely fantastic & she really cared about giving top service. She was let down as well as us when we were left waiting for food service and she had to chase twice after 45minutes. With a packed schedule we couldn't stay any longer than the allotted time & the manager did compensate but still left us disappointed. What food we had we would highly recommend to everyone & with Kelly's fantastic service we will return when we can afford to.
Very expensive for look like, but little substance.
Food and Ambiance was amazing, though the service was really lacking. No one came to check on refills for anything- not even tea or water. Also took about 30-35 minutes to receive our check and desserts and that was after calling over for one of the waiters attention. Disappointing for the price but still tried to enjoy our experience nevertheless.
C’était très bien passé, l’ambiance était bien et le high tea était délicieux.
Good choice of food and teas. Staff friendly, helpful and very attentive
Terrible service-will not be returning
A classic, more pricy than other options, but it *is* a stylish classic
A wonderful treat, an experience not to be missed
We could not visit without having an elegant high tea and Fortnum and Mason did not disappoint. Food, ambiance and service was perfection without being stuffy. We enjoyed every moment.
We felt racism at that place, Asian people were made to sat inside. White people took seats in front of the windows
Good fun. My daughter and her friend thoroughly enjoyed it. The birthday cake and song for my daughter were splendid and made her happily embarrassed. Overall it was a great treat. The tea in particular was excellent.
Sumptuous tea. Very good service. Eye wateringly expensive.. but what do you expect!!
I really expected more for the price that you pay. The tea was excellent, the food was okay, and the service was terrible. The waitress disappeared and never checked in on us. We had to flag someone down to get our bill. I certainly expected higher quality service and treatment.
Overall a great experience but as this is mainly a tourist destination they should really explain the tea experience to you or how to order. Our server offered no introduction or how the menu worked. Two or three people can share one set of food (approx. £55), you can ask for seconds, and they box up any food you want to bring home (except for sandwiches due to health code reasons). Again this is a great experience and amazing food, but a better, more welcoming introduction or explanation is needed.
Good for a special occasion. Absorbent carpet and furnishings enable easy conversation. Tables not too close together. Service, food etc excellent.
Lovely waitress although hard to get her attention as she was serving quite a few tables .
Pricey but delicious. Nice live piano music in background.
The tea room atmosphere was nice enough, as would be expected of such a venue. Food was ok but pretty average and certainly not the standard that would be expected for the price (soggy cucumber sandwiches outright poor, they were also out of English peppermint tea). Service was a little pretentious as if the customer was the lucky one to be allowed in there, they were attentive yet clueless in basic dining etiquette (no spoons provided for serving clotted cream or jam, small side plates were provided as tea plates which could barely fit the scones, the tea pouring display left me with a tea filled saucer for the duration of the tea drinking and no efforts were made to correct this, as if it were perfectly acceptable). Invasive questions from the staff trying to be over-friendly. Then having to queue to use the rather crammed loos before we left rounded of nicely the overall poor experience. All in all a pretty poor experience at £124 for 2 people.
Excellent atmosphere and tasty food
Great variety of teas

We thoroughly enjoyed our Afternoon Tea at Fortnum's on Tuesday. The quality and presentation of the food were excellent and we much appreciated the attentive service provided by the friendly and cheerful staff.
Beautiful and charming and recommend over the other well known alternatives. Top heavy price wise though.
That Afternoon Tea at F&M is my favourite all of my friends know this and the ones who have accompanied me totally agree with me. Why? Because from the moment you step in you are introduced to a classy ambience. From service to the yummy treats to the live piano bar. They all blend together so beautifully so that you can have a 5* experience especially when you have dietary requirements -gluten intolerant in my case. The GF scones are simply to "die for".
Will be back soon.
The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon was very nice. The decor was beautiful. I felt very relaxed. The lady who waited on our table was very friendly and welcoming. I loved the piano player, very nice background music and not loud at all. I had the vegetarian afternoon tea option. The sandwiches were alright, but the cake selection was nowhere as nice as my friends, who did not have the vegetarian option. I was a little disappointed by that. The bread for the sandwiches was a little dry but the fillings were nice. The scones were good. We did not eat all the jam and lemon curd and was able to take the jars home, as well as the cakes we didn’t eat. They were all wrapped up in a beautiful box and put into a nice little bag. I was underwhelmed by the Battenberg cake, it was quite tasteless, as was the marzipan. Overall It did not live up to my expectations.
Every year my Mum and I have afternoon tea at Fortnum’s, for her birthday, and have done for the last 15-20 years. This year it was my Mum’s 80th birthday and the staff made her feel incredibly special.
We thoroughly enjoy our visit each year and this time was the best. Food is amazing, service is wonderful and it is the best for a totally British afternoon tea.
Lovely environment and food, however, on the day we arrived the salon looked under staffed. The waiters were very friendly, helpful and delivering to high quality but not as quick as a well-managed staffed salon should be (and not due to taking their time or being slow, just too few waiters for too many tables).
Also, arriving in a very busy receiption area and waiting for long to be seated does not resonate with the price and value that the venue promises.
On a busy Sunday afternoon we still felt special and our waiter was attentive but not intrusive.
It was a bit too busy, waiting for our table involved loitering in the foyer with other groups of people as there were no seats available. The table itself didn't feel that special either as it was one of many jammed into a room.
However, the food was delicious and the experience relaxing, but not quite as intimate or special as I'd hoped for.
Very disappointing this time. I paid 175 for 2 of us. We had the high tea with hot dish, which was fine..but followed by a tiered stand with 6 or 7 small cakes and 4 scones was not fine. We not not asked once if we wanted the plates to be replenished. Really poor value. Last time we were offered cakes from a table too..this time nothing. Wine was nice though. A real let down to be honest. I love going there but not this last time. I felt like I paid for fresh air.
