A brilliant belated birthday treat for my friend who I hadn't seen for ages!
First high tea experience.
We waited almost 20 minutes beyond our reservation time to be seated. Our waiter charged us for an extra person and when i noticed the error, he had to get a senior staff member to override the transaction and redo the bill. That staff member simply subtracted £60, leaving the percentage based tip the same as if we had been four guests. I had to correct that error as well. Then he could not get proper internet service in the section where we were seated so several times during the cancellation and redoing of the transacrion he had to leave our area with my card in the machine to another part of the restaurant. The whole process took close to 15 minutes. So very good food, attentive and knowledgeable waiter but unfortunate delay in getting seated and paying the bill.
The only real disappointment was that after spending £400 on Afternoon Tea for 6 - 4 of us had a glass of champagne, a service charge of £50 was added to our "bill" which we didn't pay we left our own "tip".
Great ambience, atmosphere and food was just wonderful! Service was impeccable and thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea. Will definitely be back again.
Very good everything was fantastic my son came late but they got him everything he asked for.I also was very surprised I had forgotten about my birthday the week before and the server came out singing happy birthday with cake with a candle and I had to shed a tear because it was a suprise .Fantastic time
The Tea Salon was a fantastic experience and worth every penny! A must do!
Waiting over 30 min with no designated waiting area where drinks could not be bought. Not enough seats while waiting. We’re offered complimentary glass of bubble tea after we were seated. Not good enough for such a long waiting time. No system of announcing when the table became available. Good service from the waitress but are Much better places for these money
The food is amazing, the place is really chic and cosy. Would recommend to anyone up for a very tasty afternoon tea
Lovely experience; very entertaining tea sommelier (José) helped to make it very memorable.
Everything about our Afternoon Tea experience was wonderful. The food was excellent and the waiting staff were a real delight.
Food was lovely, we had a savoury tea and a high tea so we had a great variety. Food service was good but they were slow with bringing fresh tea. It was very busy and they were possibly a bit low on waiting staff but overall service was very friendly, food was great and we really enjoyed our afternoon.
Tasty food and amazing teas, shame the service was very slow and we waited 40 mins to be served and another hour for a top up of tea to drink. Great atmosphere but not enough staff for the standard we expected from Fortnum & Mason.
Arrived five minutes early only to be seated 15 minutes after the booking time. Booking was for four but initially seated at a table prepared for three, right in the main thoroughfare of waiting staff. The experience didn't really meet my expectations and was definitely over-priced when compared to a meal out or similar event.
One of the best afternoon teas I've had - great food and amazing veggie options. Atmosphere also lovely and was a real experience. Only slight downfall was the service which could have been improved.
Nice atmosphere. All the staff very friendly, helpful. Lovely food which could be topped up if you had room! Was ideal to take our daughter for her 16th birthday without it feeling too posh
I really enjoyed the afternoon with my friends but it wasn't perfect. We were seated in a quiet area which we appreciated so we able to chat. The food (sandwiches, scones) were very good but not fantastic (patisserie). I did not want strawberry jam and asked for an alternative such as raspberry. The waitress came back and said they did not have any left. It seems strange for a luxury food store ad she did not offer any other kind of jam. To be fair they had lemon curd but I fancied jam & clotted cream. For £ 62.00 we enjoyed ourselves but I would try another place. Waiting staff were fine.
Amazing service and excellent food!
The location is lovely; however , the price is too high for what is offered.
It was a nice experience but I have had much nicer afternoon tea for a lot less!! It was nice to have a savoury option.
Marianna was our server and she was Fantastic ! She suggested different types of teas , sandwiches and savouries to make our afternoon enjoyable. She took the time to explain all the flavours with enthusiasm and with a fun attitude.
We had a wonderful experience. Thank you Marianna - from the Canadians :)
We waited 15 minutes for a table we had booked a week prior, and then had to remind the front desk staff we were there m. It was 45 minutes from our original booking time before we received anything but tap water.
The server was pleasant, but inattentive. She said everything was refillable when she delivered our order, but didn’t come back to check in for another 30 minutes. We did reorder some sandwiches, but neither she nor the sandwiches ever appeared. Two hours into our time there, we had to flag down a server to ask for our check. We said to never mind about the refill on sandwiches.
I would not go back and would not recommend this tea room to anyone else. Highly disappointing after hearing such amazing reviews from locals and fellow travelers. Hoping it was just an off day, but I’d stick with Brown’s Hotel (or anywhere else, really) for a positive experience of the quintessential high tea.
We celebrated our wedding with a family party last year and our first anniversary this year with friends for High Tea. I suspect this will become an annual event.
Birthday celebration. It was good company. Service ok. She forgot about us a lot.
The service was very good, great selection of tea mixtures, the tea was very good, I recommend the royal blend. The food was very average, and not worth the price, but as an experience it is something special that I would recommend people to try.
The perfect valentine day treat
Valentines Afternoon Tea - exceptional service
On this occasion No the service was poor waited twice half an hour to get plate replenished and afternoon tea over priced. However they did redeem themselves (Anna our waitress) by apologising and give no us aglass of champagne, plates replenish and did not add service charge.
A truly wonderful afternoon. Cannot fault anything. Excellent food. Perfect service. Beautiful tea salon. Good vegetarian and vegan menus.
Overall we had a wonderful time for tea on Valentine’s Day. The atmosphere, the food and the staff friendliness were top notch. The dining room manager was extremely helpful as we arrived. When we were seated there was a flurry of attentiveness about the teas, ordering, explanation of the menus and ordering initial drinks. Then, slowly, over the afternoon, this attentiveness started to disappear. We asked for additional sandwiches which took a long time to arrive and even though the restaurant wasn’t full, it felt like we had been a bit forgotten! However when we asked the manager Yannis about the sandwiches he was immediately very helpful and solved the problem. He apologised and gave us a complimentary glass of champagne and made sure the sandwiches arrived soon after – and we had a friendly chat with him and found him to be a very nice man. So in the end our Valentine’s Day tea at Fortnum’s was a success but for the above, this is the reason for my 4 star rating – it could have been 5 stars!
A wonderful afternoon tea! We had a very memorable experience with impeccable service. We couldn’t eat everything they served as there was so much! We took a huge doggy bag home and 2 days later we are still enjoying their most fabulous chocolate cake! We won’t need to go every week but perfect as a treat for me, my mother and my 12 year old daughter.
They said they may even name a blended tea - strawberry and peach - after my daughter so do look out for the “lilybee” blend!!
Everything was perfect for my Valentines Day anniversary afternoon tea! My server Jose was excellent! I would like to thank all the staff, I noticed how they all work together. I highly recommend this restaurant. I plan to bring my husband next time we’re in London. 🇬🇧
Beautiful location, food and tea were delicious, except scones.... dry. Service was okay, not attentive, didn’t ask if we needed anything or clear dishes. Then told choice of cake to choose from and it was brought in boxes to go. Disappointed.
Whilst it was very enjoyable, I feel other places offer a more exclusive afternoon tea experience, even if we have to pay a little more for that.
This was a retirement gift and a birthday celebration. Great Ambiance, Delicious food & champagne, superb service with additional birthday surprises. Would recommend. Thanks for a special afternoon.
It was amazing ! The dishes served as well as the tea were fabulous! The staff is very attentive. I highly recommend this experience
Very nice experience. Highly recommended. The staff were very polite and friendly
I do not write reviews much on opentable, HOWEVER, this had to be done because of some commentd that might turn off customers from this amazing experience. I have seen teamwork as its best in this place like no where before. The manager Hartice moves tables open doors and takes trays to help her employees be attentive.
Onahy our hostess was AMAZING she looked after us the whole stay making sure we had everything right.
A true experience that will NOT be forgotten.
The place was noisy for a relaxed evening - but given the place and its history u will not be able to find it quiet.
Downturns might be *The piano is hardly heard and value of money might be expensive
Lovely old-fashioned room, good service, and although the tea doesn't look much when it's brought out, you can get refills of everything, so we came out too full to eat the 'extra' cake offered, so they boxed it up in lovely F&M packaging to take home. Slightly expensive, but for a special treat, it's delightful.
