I have seen some mixed reviews for The Gallery. I don't understand why. I went for lunch and mentioned it was my birthday so it was a little treat. The serving staff were exemplary and the service was quick. What I didn't expect was that they would take my drink off the bill as a surprise! Everyone was extremely polite and I had a wonderful time.
I enjoyed my lunch at the Gallery but I found staff not at the same level as the shop floor. I am used to the kind, respectful and profesional service through the store but not at the Gallery. Service was a bit abrupt and distant.
I had a booking for 1800 and I reached at 1757 only to be told that the kitchen closes at 1800!!!
Why do you have options for reservations 1730 onwards if the kitchen closes!!
Not a great experience at the start of the dinning and To too this up I get an email for open table to tell me that i didn’t keep my reservation - really is this a joke?!!
Service not as good as last time, took three requests to get tap water and the server took away my very unfinished beer and I had to be quick to retrieve it. Food was good but Yorkshire puds weren't up to my husband's exacting Yorkshire standards.
Friendly staff, good relaxed atmosphere
Excellent food, great customer service. We booked for 1.30 sitting and were not rushed throughout our meal. Really nice atmosphere and although quite busy was not loud and noisy. Really nice selection of food from small bites to main meals and desserts. One of my favourite places to go, would definitely recommend.
just excellent! A birthday party for seven.
Every birthday should be held here.
Superb food. We had the brunch menu, and really delicious, superbly cooked and presented.
Food was ok but the service terrible. At no point did anyone ask if everything was OK or if I wanted anything else etc. Even after paying I didn't get a thankyou or a simple "how was your meal". Very dissapointing for an establishment like this, I get better service at the local takeaway.
We visited the Gallery restaurant whilst on our honeymoon. Everything from the service, to the drinks, food, even the beautiful products in the bathroom made for a very special occasion never to be forgotten. Thank you F&M x
The sandwiches are uninteresting and no attempt was made to offer more .
The scones were not brought out separately and hence were not warm
The small cakes were not exceptional
A slice of cake was much better
The tea was good but constant refills with water results in very dilute tea
The standard was not up to that of other venues of a similar price
Always book lunch when I go down to London. Never disappoints. A wonderful treat
My husband ordered his usual crab and avocado with a side of triple cooked chips, however, the chips didn't seem to be triple cooked and my husband said they didn't taste as good as they normally did.
I had monkfish with chef's own tartare sauce, the fish was absolutely gorgeous but the sauce didn't taste anything remotely like a 'normal' tartare sauce, there was too much pickle, gherkin and onion involved, even my husband tasted it and said it was just like vinegar with no resemblance to anything creamy, thus I put that to one side and ate the fish along with my minted new potatoes. When we said to the waiter about the sauce even he said that he hadn't enjoyed the sauce (I think the staff must have to try all the dishes so that they can describe them to the customers). This was such a shame as we usually have such great dishes when we dine here and as the whole meal cost us £70+ we were left unimpressed.
Great service by our waiter his last name was something like Cheinal or cheval?
As my daughter was poorly and he tended to us with respect and even gif the cake and happy birthday on plate bit too x thanks so much !!
I’ve obviously romanticised our last visit to F&M but this visit to the restaurant was pretty mediocre. Poor service and even poorer value for money all set in the environment reminiscent of a National Trust cafeteria- and that’s not a compliment.
The service was shockingly slow and indifferent. We had to leave the table to ask the waiter to bring the cake he promised to bring immediately 10 minutes earlier. No hot water to top up the teapot. The couple on the table next to us were about to leave as they had been ignored- I asked a waiter to serve them. They were on holiday from New Zealand and had looked forward to tea at Fortnums.
Truly disgraceful that 12.5% service was added to the bill for perhaps the worst afternoon tea experience in London.
A great place to lunch en route to the Royal Academy. Excellent food and service.
Elegant, friendly, the staff is very professional and the food never disappoints. I recommend F&M to all my friends who go to London for a special brunch or lunch.
Staff need much , much more training in house , they seem to lack even basic skills and knowledge .
I haven't been to F&M for several years and the last time it felt rather ordinary. I now have two small children and decided that for my wife's birthday it was worth a try - hoping that the children behaved or at least the noise level would drown it out. I was not sure what the food was going to be like expecting a slightly better than tourist level.
I was wrong - the food was very good and the taste was authentic. In fact everything for us on the day turned out very well in deed.
We have dined at F&M in the past but never in this restaurant.
We had an excellent experience and a great time and look forward to returning when next in London.
Staff were very engaging and food excellent.
Abysmal service - it took nearly 2 hours for a sandwich and a scone! We asked four or five times for the same thing, trying different waiters, all to no avail. They weren’t even that busy! And totally inflexible on any changes to make things vegetarian, etc - it turns out everything is pre-made. Waste of time and money.
I like the way the restaurant isn’t overwhelmingly posh yet the food is excellent.
A lovely and relaxed venue, perfect for a special occasion.
J ai été très déçue. La vaisselle a changé et est très moche et commune, la salle ultra bruyante, la carte a augmenté en tarif et lz quantité n y est pas. Decue alors que j y venais chaque année auparavant...
Reasonable lunch in a convenient site. Too much salt in some of the dishes however.
The Welsh rarebit is to die for.
Lovely staff providing excellent service.
Delicious smoked salmon served quickly by friendly and professional staff. Relaxed ambience, although exclusive.
Our party had a very poor experience of service and food.
The lack of vegan option was down to avocado toast and the portions were somehow unbalanced - massive eggs Benedictine dish and tinny rarebit.
The weather forecast said rain and dull; I had a friend visiting from Europe; I thought where the best place to eat Breakfast. The Gallery at Fortnum and Mason. I was not disappointed. The menu is varied and I had the Highland Breakfast (Scrambled Egg, Toast and Scottish smoked salmon and my friend, Eggs Benedict. They were delicious. The quietness of the Gallery on a wet Tuesday morning is a gift during the beginning of the holiday season. The service is always exemplary and Tuesday was no exception. The waiting staff are attentive and yet discreet . We both echoed this was a brilliant beginning to our Tuesday morning.
Food is amazing, service excellent but does tend to leave a large whole in your bank account . Don't go there very often but when we do it is wonderful.
Great attentive service, prompt food delivery ....
I advised on booking it was my wife’s birthday and asked for a window table, it didn’t happen. The menu is really poor, very restricted. We have dined here always at lunch 6-7 times this is the worst experience and we will not be back.
Sunday afternoon Very nice classic everyday 3 course meal, starter of dressed crab main of beef roast dinner and dessert knickerbocker glory all served and presented by professional staff
I visit this restaurant regularly and are never disappointed, sometimes twice a day and have breakfast and afternoon tea. Have been known to have Elegant Rarebit with a glass of rose champagne on Thursday mornings when I make a quick visit to London. The food and staff are wonderful, the standard is very high.
Sunday lunch is incredible, highly recommended.
We were seated right away and our food arrived in short order. It was a nice lunch. We had the pasta of the day (ravioli stuffed with spinach and cheese) and fish and chips. The mashed peas had a delightful hint of mint. Nice lunch!
Had booking for table at 2pm, it was very busy & our greeting lacked the warmth we have come to expect. Later found out short staffed & table staff & manager were lovely. Whilst not our usual 5/5 despite as a result food excellent and will return.
Situated overlooking the busy ground floor the Gallery restaurant provides a little welcome respite from the busy shopping experience. As I overhead one tourist saying 'the menu is very British...' - but then what else might you expect. It runs a full gamut of interesting starters, welsh rarebit, smoked salmon, up to more hearty offerings of fish and chips, steaks etc. The menu is flexible allowing brunch/lunch or indeed tea from 11.30am. I had a welsh rarebit followed by scones under the official headline of 'tea'. Yum. Staff are ever-present and will replenish tea pots with ease. Considering the location and the quality (lovely soft scones) prices are perfectly reasonable (service included).
Lovely, friendly staff. Potatoes were a touch salty!
