A total insult. It failed on every level. I have had better meals at a motorway service station
Excellent as ever !
Restaurant was extremely busy and noisy as it is Christmas. However the staff were very attentive and the food arrived hot and there was a varied menu. The coffee was undrinkable so just finished the wine which was not! I booked a table which I highly recommend as we by-passed the queue and were seated immediately.
Firstly the wine waitress spilt wine and left the dirty place mats. Another waiter after being asked changed the two dirty mats. Starters 3 soups fine but a scotch-egg was a little under cooked? The four venison pies chosen were really cottage pie style and as you know pie mentioned with venison always has a pie crust ( this was a misnamed dish ) but worse all four dishes were only luke warm and three were returned and everyone had to wait some time before being able to continue with the meal. One member of the party disliked the taste so much that it went untouched the others all agreed that the sweet potatoes fought against the venison flavour. It was a dish not enjoyed . One person had the lemon tart of minute size and sloppy base - not enjoyed. The bottles of wine were nice and would have gone well with a good meal. The atmosphere in the restaurant was non existent. It was a canteen. In the past we have enjoyed eating there ( one member in Coronation year ) but it seemed that Christmas greed took over from the normal Fortnum and Mason style and standard. The foreign waiters worked well and would have benefitted from a not so industial system.
We always visit whenever we come to London ....your a real favourite of ours. The first coffees we had very just Luke warm.little more of attention towards customers wouldn't go a miss.
Very good value, excellent service, but noise levels very high and this is a problem for older people in general.
It is a long time since my last memorable visit but the feeling of wanting to return was still strong. I was not disappointed. The salmon was lovely, as was the wine that accompanied it. I will definitely come again the next time I visit London.
The taste was so good. But the next order was too late.
Excellent booking system. Service was great as was the food and ambience! Well done at a busy time of the year!
Very polite friendly service
There was a mistake in bringing me my food but it was quickly rectified and apology given
Service charge is warranted on account service is impeccable. If it's not, then please recognise and ajust accordingly. Please do not deliver second rate service and attempt full charge.
Slow service.. Food raw not cooked through.. Shame seemed to be a communication issue with the waiting staff and kitchen.
Great location and good food. Staff attentive and although quite noisy it’s a great spot
Excellent service, food and experience as always. Would highly recommend.
It has been about 20years since our family has had lunch here , and it was lovely to be back and find that it was still the comfortable , welcoming and nicely relaxed restaurant that we remembered. We had booked online and this system worked really well ... our table was ready some ten minutes early and we were greeted by a very nice and very professional manager who showed us to our table and made sure we were happy before passing us over to the waiting staff. The menu was refreshingly small but with plenty of choice, and the food arrived quickly, was well presented and tasted wonderful. The bohemian lager combined with the smoked salmon dish was particularly delicious ! An hour passed in these surroundings was a real pleasure and we will certainly return ... but a little quicker than 20years ! Thank you to the manager and her great team of staff in the kitchen and front of house.
Great fish and chips
Avoid at Christmas. Big crowds and queues, though our booking was recognised and we were seated fast. Food disappointing. Venison pie had no pastry. Deserts very plain and homogenised. But service staff coped well
Despite having booked a table we still had to queue for a few minutes, which was a little disappointing. The waiters were attentive without being intrusive and appeared keen to please. There was an extensive lunchtime menu on which, even my vegetarian daughter found much to her liking. The food was imaginative, well cooked and nicely presented. The tables were exceptionally close together, but the noisy atmosphere ensured sufficient privacy. Overall, we both thought it was a most enjoyable experience at a reasonable price.
Lovely time, good food and a relaxed atmosphere. Great place to meet up for a Christmas treat.
A fabulous experience.
Food and service were excellent.
And the ambiance and noise level made it a perfect start to the day ahead.
Felt ignored, no one came by to say hello or take an order. I flag what appeared to be a manager he acknowledged and motioned “just a minute” and then finally the server showed up. Never spoke to the manager. Which I guess is ok but you would think he would have come over. Interesting and creative menu, but I thought in the end it was ok and small on the portion side, not that I’m a big eater but it seemed to lack substance. The dining room is pretty on the mezzanine level and it’s very busy. When you do interact with staff they are pleasant and accommodating.
I realise the restaurant was busy but we waited ages for our main courses and, in fact, had to remind someone that we hadn't yet had them when people who had come in after us were receiving their food. My soup hadn't been very hot, I like my soup to be piping as soup cools down so quickly although my main was okay for heat. The lady I had spoken to earlier did take some money off our bill but we then had to rush to get our train from Euston because of the delay (especially as we had been seated 10 minutes before our actual booking time). This is unusual for F & M and I can only assume that, as it coming closer to Christmas, that they did not have enough staff on duty or we'd just got forgotten.
Always a pleasure to have lunch but it’s very pricey and the service charge is a bit cheeky.
This visit to The Gallery Restaurant was good. The food, as always, very good. The Venison pie was excellent and my guests reported that the Fish of the Day was very good.
The staff are friendly but one complaint that I have and this extends to each of the restaurants within the Fortnums building is the poor level of training given to the serving staff. Without fail you can bet that someone will reach across you to either serve you your meal or to clear away your plates. This can be very annoying and not something you would expect from Fortnums. I have complained about this to the restaurant managers in the past but nothing changes. Despite this, I still return.
They could do with taking a drinks order quicker after you initially sit down.
Have a lot of waiters who don’t take orders but serve the food so initially confusing.
Sunday lunch preceded by a starter of smoked salmon was excellent-no need for an dessert.
Store exceptionally busy so no chance of looking around.
Very good overall dining experience .
The very best that you can get in the UK everybody should go once in there life
Food was excellent (welsh rarebit for all of us) we were not rushed at all. One of our servers Santa was excellent, but overall the service was slow and inattentive. But this still remains one of my favourite places for lunch/brunch
We used the Restaurant as early dinner before going to the Theatre. Fish and Chips were excellent!
Food was delicious as always but Service was slow, our server would not come by our table and we had to keep catching the eye of someone else.
Lovely lunch which we chose from the Christmas menu. Remember that they charge 12.5% service charge which does add to your bill.
Service was good and there was no rushing. Have been before and would go again.
We enjoyed the whole experience. Took a little time fort eh order to be taken but after that the timings and attention were very good. Ages since I had eaten a rarebit.
Stunning food and relaxing and comfortable setting. A little expensive but given the location and quality, not too much so.
I do enjoy coming to F&M for lunch when in London. However, I did feel that on this occasion the food was not of the same quality as previous visits. I had the Christmas lunch of two courses mains and dessert. It did feel as though we were quite rushed as well, I do understand it is very busy and quick turnover is required, however, the staff were very quick to bring courses and refill glasses as though they were under pressure to clear tables as quick as possible. I would however recommend this restaurant as this is the first time this has happened when dining there.
Good quality food, great service, helpful and friendly staff. Not rushed at all.
A lovely lunch, the staff were attentive without being overbearing and you did not feel rushed
As a treat yes I would. However you need to work on your Service. It was slow and un co-ordinated. Our tea arrived at least 10 minutes before our cake - no hot food involved so couldn’t understand the delay.
Also we were billed for still water thar we did not receive. Catching your staffs eye to make them aware wa almost impossible.
The Gallery was the perfect place to meet for brunch with a good friend who I haven’t seen for a long time. We both enjoyed our Eggs Benedict and Buck Rarebit and the tea and coffees were just perfect. Ambience refined but relaxed with just enough background conversation but not intrusive. One minor detail was very slow service which could have been irritating had we not been chatting so much and the presentation of the Eggs Benedict was a little untidy with hollandaise smeared across the plate. Otherwise the staff were perfectly pleasant and I had no complaints.
Has always been my little treat when I'm down in London.
We arrived just as the kitchen was closing, but we were waited on immediately. The food was served promptly, and was delicious. We were not rushed at all.
