Fortnum & Mason The Parlour
Was a great place to go for the fortnums experience. Recommend the shrimp burger 😘
Professional and friendly service. Food delivered promptly. Well presented and tasty. Also my request for a window table was granted. Excellent and will be returning.
I’m a big fan of Fortum’s. Have been for a long time - so coming to see you for a hotly anticipated half term treat was a big deal. We don’t live in London & it was the best part of three hours on a train...
The table was booked weeks in advance. We arrived a little early and were rudely turned away by a bolshy brunette. We came back 10 mins later, on time, but the table was still not ready for us.
The entrance is an absurdly narrow squeeze between a pillar and the till. The exit is even more ridiculous - a very tight squeeze between a 1/2 wall and the same pillar through an Exit you think is a joke, particularly with coats, bags and kids in tow. Honestly I doubt it meets basic Health & Safety measures & Fortnum’s needs to address it.
The first view from behind the counter is good - the counter display is magical. However, once you get past that, it’s a dull, uninspired, not very clean beige space with beige Formica tables. We had to wait for an age for service - eventually I got up from the table and went to seek it.
Having ordered, eventually the food came. It was atrocious. One plate of dull white ham sandwiches unadorned and boring. The bread was nasty and the ham was fatty. My Welsh Rarebit (a favourite at Fortnum’s for me -I’ve had it many times before) was rock hard and barely edible. My sister’s avocado/chilli on toast was better but hardly special & the toasted ham sandwiches were also OK. Nothing more. We waited another age for drinks and for the ice creams. The ice creams were sensational and nicely presented. Nothing else was.
With the exception of the nice lady I’d met before who I cornered when we’d been waiting an unacceptable amount of time with two smallish children (both under ten), the staff we encountered were dreadful. Sullen and disengaged, they were a masterclass in ‘unhelpful’ and ‘unwelcoming’. Not at all what you would expect (or what you usually get) at Fortnum’s.
An expensive treat & a HUGE disappointment.
Lovely surroundings and the sundaes are to die for - but service and hygiene were not great. Had to ask several times for scones that had been ordered and a pencil to fill in the ‘build your own sundae’ menu. Had to send back not one but two chipped and dirty teapots and cups. At over £100 for 3 sundaes, a pot of tea, a macha latte, 2 scones, a Welsh rarebit and 2 mini quiches, we expected better.
Very nice ! Very good service , we were celebrating a birthday and we got a birthday cake , the stuff was very nice ! Would definitely recommend!
So disappointed with the general atmosphere being that of an American diner. So far from what I expected at Fortnum and Mason. Had booked for my mum’s 65th birthday and thought we would be treated to a little something more than what we got. Ordered parlour tea with which was included the smallest pot of tea. We subsequently needed to order more to accompany our scone and we were charged £12 extra for the privilege (most teas are unlimited beverage!) The waiter initially didn’t provide the lemon to accompany my Mum’s tea. Only very sweet gesture was the slice of cake and candle (although felt for the man singing on his own bless him).
The purpose of the visit was my mum’s love of ice cream and The Parlour was coming up top in any search. Again the selection of ice cream varieties and American presentation was entirely underwhelming.
An overall disappointing experience and won’t be hurrying back for any special occasion.
It was my birthday and they made it very special the staff were excellent
Lovely environment and first class service from a friendly team of staff. We look forward to returning soon!
A lovely visit to The Parlour for my husband’s birthday. Loved that the crockery matched the decor! A surprise slice of chocolate cake too which was a special touch.
A delightful venue, with attentive staff. Online bookings are available at selected times only. The crockery and decor are coordinated. A super place to meet or entertain friends.
Party of 3.
We were seated and given menus , one menu was dirty and not pleasant to handle.
We ordered 2 salmon and 1 Welsh rabbit savoury dishes. Nothing special and small portions.
(The salmon that was given was good quality)
For desert we ordered 1 sundae ( not the best and very sweet) and 2 of us shared a 2 scones, jam and cream ( the nicest part of the meal)
Drinks were all except able.
Unfortunately the most disappointing part of our lunch was the service. We had several waiting staff during our lunch who to be honest did not engage with us ,didn’t seem to be really interested in what they were doing and with little atmosphere lunch a very big disappointment,
Would not recommend.
My friend and I enjoyed a very pleasant light lunch in a welcoming atmosphere with excellent, friendly and prompt service provided by the staff who looked after our table.
The best cheese on toast you have ever had!
Followed by the most amazing flavours of ice cream.........
Would eat here morning noon and night if I could!
Thank you for bringing over a piece of birthday cake for my niece - very thoughtful
Luscious sundaes, very good service. Excellent for a one-off treat.
It's a little overpriced - £8 for an iced tea - but guess you're paying for the location as well. Enjoyed it but had better.
This is my 4th visit to the parlour. On arrival we were taken to our table by a very friendly member of staff.
Our order was taken, I was very happy to be introducing my mother and sister in law to your gin and tonic float. In the past it has been very cold with lots of delicious sorbet. On arrival of our drinks I was disappointed that they only had a small amount of sorbet in them and they didn’t meet your usual standard!
We had ordered 5 different dishes but only 4 arrived. I had to remind a member of staff that we hadn’t had every thing we had ordered.
It left me a little deflated as I had suggested we ate at the parlour and it was supposed to be a special treat.
I do hope our next visit will be back up to usual fortnum and mason standard.
Great place to meet for lunch, a bit expensive but it is Fortnum’s...
This place was really average, it wasn't how I expected but it wasn't horrible either just ok. Presentation on the sundae was just ok not what you would expect from this store. Seating nice, staff nice but even the water glasses were grubby overall just average
The quiche and welsh rarebit were small, overcooked and overpriced. Service was very slow.
We were celebrating our daughter’s sixth birthday and the whole team (from the moment we arrived until the moment we left) made her feel really special. Thank you ever so much for the little surprise just before our departure.
The manager, Quentin, was very accommodating for our food allergy requirements. He had carefully took note of our allergies and advised us of their procedures to reassure us. Thank you for your kind care. You made my boys very happy!
No I wouldn’t recommend to a friend. Our visit was not up to the usual standard I have experienced before. When we have celebrate birthdays in the parlour we have been given a slice of cake with a candle. We were celebrating a birthday on our visit last Thursday. I will not be returning in a hurry.
Poor system on arrival when you have a reservation and staff member quite rude. After that a much better service and experience. Food is expensive for what it is but to be expected at Fortnum’s. Overall a nice experience but not something I’m in a hurry to repeat.
Lovely menu and really helpful staff so good with our little one
The Parlour was absolutely superb. A really special time with my partner, enjoying a delicious Parlour’s Tea. Highly recommended.
Brought my daughter for her 18th Birthday - staff made her feel so special with cake and singing! A perfect place for a celebration with superb food and wonderful staff.
We come her every holiday, me, The Niece and The Nephew. He has a serious dairy and nut allergy and now The Parlour can cater for him it’s a great treat venue.
This visit wasn’t as good as usual for two reasons. Firstly my nephew was only given two scoops of the three he ordered (and we were charged for three!) I decided to leave him with two because by that point my niece had decided that the Mint-choc-chip was horrible and she wasn’t going to eat it. The Mint-choc-chip was hideous. I think it had been made by someone who favours the wrong kind of mint for flavour. Not up to F&M’s usual standard- I had coffee and chocolate ice creams and they were delicious.
We requested pan cake and he brought crepe..which is different from the pan cake.
Service is very good
Waited a while before being approached and seated. The ice cream is very overpriced; we built our own sundaes and the scoops of ice cream were very small. Limited amount of flavours which appeal to a more mature taste. The setting is nice and it’s a very busy place which mean the staff seemed preoccupied in getting people in and out. I was a bit disappointed with my visit
The waiting staff could be more attentive and polite.
The savoury foods are not good value for money.
The ice cream was superb.
Waitress was knowledgable about gluten free options note the strawberry is made from oat milk and so not gf.
Service was poor. The only attention seems to be a paid to seating the customer. Once the order is delivered you never see a server
I almost had to stand up and trip a waitress in order to get a further addition to my order. Was never asked how my order was. I would not recommend it.
Our waitress was most unhelpful. The sundaes were nice however expensive. Also when we received the bill there was a service charge which we were not aware of at any point. When we questioned this we were told it was an obligated Payment and not discretionary. As we had two children in our group of five it was expensive and disappointing. We had already spent over £400 in the store . This was our first and last visit.
Perfect as always
The most delicious icecream and wonderful helpful staff
We had a lovely time, but there were real problems with the service.
Love it! Great for girls! Pretty decor, pretty food. Love the ice cream cones on the coffee cup!
The tea was lovely but, the food (pancakes and croissant) were very average and not at all worth the money we paid. We were very disappointed and ended up eating elsewhere. Service was lovely.
If you like posh ice-cream and sprinkles then this is for you
I had booked a table for my wife's birthday and on the booking asked if they could do something special. It was very disappointing that nothing special was done, despite another nearby table having a candle brought out and staff sing them happy birthday.
