Really lovely lunch staff very helpful with helping find a nice wine and food was really tasty
I love Franklin’s. Consistently good food, super nice service and good atmosphere. Good food and drink without stuffy atmosphere.
Food was absolutely delicious, and the service was impeccable, relaxed and friendly! Always a winner for me
Really nice meal and attentive service. The lamb shank was delicious!
Our only concern was the position of our table. There was a lot of traffic by staff into the stores behind our table and that reduced our enjoyment of the ambience!
Food was fine, but for the price paid there are much nicer places in the area. The starters were not great, main course was fine but not worth the 20 something pounds I paid for it. Dessert was fine, but also not great. Total bill expensive considering the food we had. Service was great though, and the room we were eating in was very cosy.
It's fourth time we have been here and never dissapointed, food fantastic and service impeccable
I would recommend Franklins to anyone. The cosy restaurant and traditional bar both have more to offer than the alternative soulless modern bars. The menu is meaty and when in the right mood - excellent. However, our only negative comment would be that they menu does not seem to change enough. I think that the liver, ox tongue, haunch of venison, guinea fowl etc. have been on the menu most times that we visit.
Great food, charming but slow service - would
Rather not see the kitchen - spoilt my eye line
Good Sunday lunch, huge Yorkshire puddings, good service, reasonable price, restaurant was very busy, good atmosphere.
Franklins has been our neighbourhood place for 15 years. It’s true that sometimes a popular dish runs out and occasionally a dish with a twist doesn’t quite make it, but it aims high and reliably delivers quality bistro food accompanied by a delightful wine list. Best of all we love the ambience - it is unfailingly packed with happy diners - and there is almost always a birthday.
Three people having a Friday evening meal. The food was very good, well cooked and well presented. Very tasty without being over complicated.
The service was excellent. Very knowledgeable waiting staff who were working very hard. Faultless
The room was very full, and a pleasant hum grew to a noise that made talking difficult. We left with ringing ears. It was the only edge to an otherwise very enjoyable evening.
We visited the restaurant for Mothers Day this year. Enjoyed a lovely meal and excellent food and service. We returned in August. It was another enjoyable experience. The staff were welcoming and served us well, without interrupting our family meal.
As usual we had a lovely dinner with friends at our fav local spot!
Service is always impeccable and food delicious and flavoursome.
For our friends was their first time and they were positively impressed.
We will come back!
I would not recommend this restaurant for dinner. The food was well below the standard suggested by the price. I ordered greens to accompany my steak and was brought a bowl of borderline-raw cabbage that had barely been warmed through, making it inedible. My friend ordered prawns, which were not de-veined and served cold. Dessert was acceptable, but again not up to the quality I would expect for the price.
Overall this was an acceptable dining experience, the servers were lovely and the ambiance was quite relaxed and nice. I would recommend this restaurant any time for a nice drink with friends, but not for food.
Very professional and friendly service, enjoyed the meal, a bit off our manor but may well go again
Lovely food, great ambiance. Particularly enjoyed the simple menu and clear explanations from the waitress.
Brilliant food, friendly personal service. A bit on the expensive side but would definitely recommend and go again
First visit - pleasant restaurant in a nice location. Attentive and professional service but for me the food was a total fail. The menu was pretentious and expensive with no stand-out dish. My plaice was soggy with a weird mix of samphire and mushroom piled on top of it. I hoped that desert would turn things around but the ice cream (blended with cake) was a complete disaster, lumpy and unpleasant. The best thing about the evening were the drinks and company.
Pleasant lunch with friends . Nice ambience and waitress very helpful . Option of going A La Carte or Menu of the Day . Food was well presented and tasted delicious . Good wine menu catering for all tastes. Enjoyed eating here and would return
Not a good option for vegetarians. Only one main meal choice which was bland and unimaginative.
Service and wine list is was good
Great food, great service, great staff. Good value
As always a lovely lunch at Franklin’s on Easter Sunday. It is my favourite local restaurant and always hits the spot!
Been here a few times, usually pre or post cinema, but always impressed. Lovely staff, good range of food options and some nice beers.
Always good food. Very helpful with my son's multiple food allergies
Wonderful food and service as always, thank you
Really disappointed as I have been to this venue on several past occasion ( my 40th) but in the evening which were great but this time Sunday lunch was mediocre ( food was barely warm and the roast potatoes were reheated). We also had oysters and some of them were not fresh enough - we had really upset stomachs that evening. The worst part - was the table(no. 5). It was situated in a wind tunnel as it was directly down from the main door and near the exit for the loos. We asked 3 times to move as we saw other table coming free before our food was ready and which remained free all of the time we were there. We came down with chills and my partner had severe back ache as he tried to block the severe cold draft from my friend and I. There should have been some kind of wind shield at least. Sorry but not going back anytime soon!
I am never disappointed by Franklins, it's our local gem and we go there regularly.
I was a bit disappointed to find an unfriendly sports on TV watchers (rugby).
I think that this is something that it does not gel with spirit of this place.
There is plenty of sport pub in the area and I think that Franklins should try to be different and more welcoming to all the people which is more into quality dining than watching sports on TV.
Thanks anyway for another lovely meal and for the friendly and professional service,
Good interesting food served in a nice atmosphere. Very nice engaging staff. Very helpful when I left my mobile phone. Will definitely go back again.
Reasonable and honest food, some very good.. thanks
A meal for four, very comfortable table in a busy restaurant. The dishes were all very good and our sense was of eating real food. The fizz and wine were very good too, and I thought the price was appropriate. The service was excellent, very thoughtful and very controlled. We have eaten before at Franklin’s and think it is the best restaurant in East Dulwich.
Had a great family meal here to celebrate a special occasion. As ever the game cookery is second to none and the menu always a delight. Service excellent and fab wine list. What not to like?
It's always a joy to dine at Franklin's, we had a lovely bottle of Medoc and tender and juicy ribeye.
Service and food always great!
Great local place with really good food and wines, service is really attentive with sense of humor.
Lovely cooked food ideal both for dining during the week or for lunch over the week-end.
Pity that especially on the Sunday it gets a bit too crowded/noisy with prams/children.
Worth it a day out since the area has a lot to offer.
We were a little disappointed with the main meals we chose for the Sunday lunch. It was ok but nothing special. In fact all remarked the roast potatoes were poor and the roast beef and yorkshires were just ok. Expect a little more at these prices and to maintain a good reputation.
The desserts and cocktails were good though, as was the service and ambience.
Not sure if we just hit an off-day!
One of our local favourites. The restaurant is intimate and cosy. The staff are friendly. The wine list is extremely good with some unusual bottles at around the £30-40 mark. We tend to go when there are a few more simple dishes to go along with their normal (excellent) red meat dishes. Ox cheeks, lamb's kidneys and venison shank are favourites. The occasional white meat or lighter game does appear on the menu, but not frequently enough for us. Despite this we do love the place and go frequently.
My first visit (family in the area love it). Very attentive staff. Delicious complimentary bread while we waited for food. My venison was cooked perfectly with pearl barley and kale. The "greens" we ordered to share were a bit underwhelming but everything else fine. Shared 2 puds between three of us. The pannacotta was particularly good.
Lovely food and one of Dulwich' best restaurants. Recommend the pigeon starter-fantastic!
One of favourite East Dulwich establishment. We wye between Franklins and the Palmerston depending on our culinary mood. Franklins - for us - tends towards slightly heavier mains (e.g. ox tail, calves liver, grouse etc.) although the starters tend to be more balanced. As I tend towards white meats or game (which they have less often), I tend to look for a good fish option to tempt me in. Extensive wine list. Friendly service.
