A good value Sunday lunch with a choice of 3 meats. You can help yourself to vegetables.
I'm gluten intolerant and they do a good gluten Free gravy but we booked beforehand to make sure they had some.
We ate early (1800) so the atmosphere was nonexistent. I had cod & chips which was alright without being in any way exceptional. My companion had a burger which thought was 'alright'.
food was really good and price was even better great value for your money. Defo go again.
The food was really good, and great value for money. The wine was very good. The service was friendly and helpful.
Normally rate this a 5 but had the steak and it was really dry so quite disappointed this time
Good food, drinks service a little slow but would go back...
We arrived early for our booked, expected to have to wait, but we were seated straight away, no problems. Not the cheapest meals, but reasonably priced for what it was, we had steak for £20. Service was excellent, nice atmosphere.
Good flavours and ample choice of Sunday lunch staples.
Excellent rib eye steak. Great value with Taste card - two for one :-) I look forward to coming back
Been here 4 or 5 times now never been disappointed, great food pleasant atmosphere and if you want a little flutter you can and it is good fun but it’s just as good just to eat the food here.
Used to go to Freya's restaurant years ago but the menu has shrunk dramatically and the quality of food is just ok. This is unfortunate because we use to love going to this restaurant back in their hay day.
Sunday lunch on Christmas eve was as usual very good, You can have as much or as little as you want ,service was very good. Price was the same as every other week.
Booked a table for Sunday lunch Christmas Eve thinking it would be incredibly busy. Quite the opposite making it very relaxing. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. All in all a lovely afternoon with all the Christmas trimmings. Perfect.
Very nice. Just what we wanted. Good food, nice prices, different setting up in a casino but it was very nice. Staff were frienly and service was quick
I've been coming to Freya's at The Gate, Newcastle for some years now, usually in a large group, and never been disappointed. The staff are excellent.
Recommended by both our daughters for sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. Everything was first class so will be recommending to all our friends.
Lovely food at various prices to suit all pockets. Always special offers on. Service great.
Food wasn't nice, I had steak and it was more fat than meat, chips were nice! Waited 20 minuites for a drink and when asking 2 different waitresses where it was and just getting nothing from them the 3rd went and got it. This was a 30th birthday meal and service & food were both terrible and we weren't the only unhappy ones there.... avoid!
Poor - plastic glasses ruined taste of wine
Wrong starter but agreed to change and give a discount - changed in 15 mins but discount not on bill
Good - food when came was lovely tasting and good potion size
Waiters worked really hard as it was busy
Didn't realise it was in a casino, probably not have booked if I had. Most restaurants don't serve fish and chips! and unfortunately the smell of these was overpowering as we entered.
Drinks not served until we were eating desert. Had already eaten starter & main. Server was lovely but more staff required. Very disappointed.
Overall the food and atmosphere was good the only thing that let it down was that we had ordered drinks part way through out main meal. By the time we had finished our meal and were ready to pay (15mins approx) we still had not received our drinks. We went to pay and the host had charged us for the drinks, upon realising this after we had explained he was very helpful and apologetic. This was the only thing that let it down really, although all 4 of us had agreed the coke was very flat and (cheap) so could maybe invest in better drinks?
Overall this was good food. We were dining on the restaurant week offer though and the food provided was not sax per menu. E.g., the menu said we would get a side of fries or veg, but we were told we could not have veg. The menu said steak, but it was a half portion of steak. We asked for seperate portions of twice cooked chips, were told there were none, but then others were allowed to order. The food was nice, but these things did let it down. Also the lager served was flat and not pleasant. This was raised either server, but nothing done about it.
The food was excellent - each course was enough to satisfy, without being too much or leaving you wanting more. The atmosphere was a bit subdued, but to be fair, that was likely due to the very short time (just two days) before Christmas! The information on Open Table needs to be updated to match the actual opening times. My initial booking was accepted for the time when Freya's closed, and although the staff were aware of this problem when I rang and very accommodating with regard to moving the booking time, it could have caused problems. However, overall the staff were fantastic and Freya's is to be commended for a delicious and good-value meal.
Absolutely fantastic meal, have been coming here for a while.
Service was excellent and food outstanding
Went here for Sunday lunch , great value at £7.95 . Got meat plated with a homemade Yorkshire and you help yourself to all the accompaniments , very tasty and substantial in size .
Good, food and service, only one small complaint,we have eaten Sunday lunch many times and the vegetables are only just warm, could this be looked at ?
Great meal once again. Staff excellent. Will be back soon
We had a lovely night celebrating a family birthday. The meal was really nice and the staff were friendly and helpful, everything was well presented and tasted fantastic. The restaurant has a warm and relaxed atmosphere and is one of our favourites in Newcastle.
They didnt have my booking, but there was space anyways. The food was good, I always go for creme brulee, cant go wrong there.
Restaurant was slightly busy and with only two serving , everything took a while. Sat near a group of six very loud chinese people.
Spoilt it for us, shame as I had thought I would be a regular customer.
we visited on a sunday afternoon there was a large party already booked in which made the atmosphere very noisy. but staff are nice service was quick. we choose the mixed meat option and I was a little disappointed with the amount of meat given. the help yourself veg was very fresh, a good choise and hot all in all not bad value
Visited as part of Newcastle Restaurant Week. Sensational food, excellent value for money, superb service. Will recommend to friends and family.
Visit from London for a birthday treat. Lovely food, great service...an all round fantastic experience. If ever in Newcastle again, would most certainly visit :)
This was the first time my husband and I have dined here, but it certainly won't be the last. The food and service was excellent, can't say more than that :)
A very enjoyable evening meal and service was excellent had a go on roulette and blackjack won £20 so good night all round.
Loved the food great value staff were lovely especially Gavin
Lush food. Lovely staff. Canny price. Lush food. Lovely staff. Canny price.
We had a get together before the footy for a family lunch and everyone was full.
