My husband and I loved the location of Gamba - you descend some stairs into a little alcove and it gives you the feeling of entering a secret space. My husband wanted some recommendations on what scotch to drink, and the bartender came to our table and was so informative. We ordered the pre-theater 3 course menu. The fish soup was so well balanced and delicious. I had mackerel which had wonderful crispy skin and my husband had an Asian styled salmon. Both were incredible. The warm chocolate cake for dessert was very good. I think Gamba is one of the best restaurants I have even eaten at. And I have eaten at a lot!
Having read reviews I was expecting something special. Wrong. Friday night no atmospher, the restaurant itself feels more like doctors waiting room. The food whilst not being bad was just average, nothing stand out at all. The whole experience was.... average.
Could not fault any course. If you like seafood you need to eat here.
The ambience of the restaurant is great. If is not too large so you do not need to talk loud to be heard like in other establishments where the noise levels can be very high.
The atmosphere is very relaxing and the service is great.
My partner and I attended Gamba for his birthday on Saturday there for his birthday and it really is first class. The staff could not be more attentive and helpful, and the food was to die for. I would say this is one of the best restaurants in glasgow. Highly recommend to anyone who loves sea food.
If you like your seafood and appreciate quality, Gamba doesn't dissapoint.
If you love fish, It's difficult to think of a restaurant which has a better choice of starters and mains (puddings a bit mundane as was the cheese selection). Layout of the restaurant an object lesson in how a small urban restaurant should feel - brilliantly designed. Staff superb - helpful and friendly without being too familiar. Do visit - it's wonderful!
We first had dinner here not long after it first opened, it is still a restaurant that we return to when in Glasgow although it is a couple of years since the last occasion. The food and service were very good, and we loved the pre dinner bar area.
My wife has to have a gluton free diet. Very often she feels awkward in the way restaurants cope with the problem. The Gamba was fantastic. The menu options were varied, the staff were very knowledgable about her needs and were fantastic. The restaurant has a very good ambience, it is comfortable with a good menu. The wine list is excellent. All in all this was one of the best fining experiences we have had for a long time.
I'm not going to drone on about this....
In my honest opinion, this was a fantastic culinary experience from start to finish and would recommend this establishment to anyone who enjoys seafood.
The fish soup is the best! We all had it. We all chose different main courses, which were delicious and filling but not a morsel was left by any of us.
See note below to restaurant overall a mixed experience
Outstanding dining experience once again. Never fails to deliver a great standard of food. Easily my most favourite place to dine in Glasgow. Waiting staff also add to the experience. If you have not been, you must go here.
Went for the set menu lunch, food was excellent, service was great, thoroughly recommended!
Great food and service, love to come here when in Glasgow, not to be missed
Our meal here was beautiful... Sashimi of tuna and marburry smoked salmon, followed by scallops & monkfish and lobster Thermidor. All to die for.
My friend and I had a really fantastic time and loved the food. We don't usually go to such a fancy place to eat and felt out of place when we first walked in but the service and food was so good that we ended up enjoying it very much.
Service was excellent staff very friendly but not intrusive . Food was excellent .. expensive but worth it. A treat indeed.
We try other places but for special and not so special occasions we always return to Gamba.. Great Food, Outstanding Service , a complete dining experience
I booked this restaurant on recommendation. It was one of the nicest meals i have ever had. Portland crab with caviar and lobster thermidor made my meal memorable. My husband's meal was equally fantastic .... fish soup then monkfish and scallops
Ate in this restaurant at 2pm on a Thursday afternoon few weeks before Christmas. We booked in advance as we knew there would be a lot of work lunch trade. We were not wrong the restaurant on first arrival seemed quite noisy but after settling down to a table for two away from the other lunch parties it was very nice. Service was outstanding very attentive and knowledgable. We opted for the a la carte dinner menu as the lunchtime set menu was geared to the Christmas lunch trade. I had crab and caviar, lobster thermidor and chocolate dessert. I love seafood and was not disappointed. Would definitely eat there again and a special mention to the dessert wine 'sticky mickey' which was great.
I had eaten dinner at Gamba many times in the past but never visited them at lunchtime before. The restaurant was pleasantly busy, staff were attentive and courteous (as always) and the lunch menu offered a good variety of choice. The food was well prepared and attractively served - and the helpings were certainly not small. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, found it good value and will certainly lunch there again.
We had a lovely meal here. Lovely ambience and lovely food. We didn't have starter or dessert but we weren't made to feel rushed.
We would definitely return and highly recommend Gamba
Food delicious as always, service great, with friendly staff. Ambience great. Will be back again with friends.
At last a restaurant that doesn't cram people and tables. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Cocktail list on your table when you arrive which arrived quickly and gave us plenty of time to choose. The sashimi of yellow fin tuna was delicious and the hand dived scallops with an orange teriyaki dipping sauce absolutely amazing. The wines were all reasonably priced and all the staff were trained to say nice things about your choice of wine and food. They were all very efficient and pleasant. It really was a great experience and we will be back.
We booked a table for the pre theatre menu, iwe received a glass of the best red wine along with some lovely bread and crackers. I ordered the prawns and salmon, which was utterly delicious!
The pre theatre menu is great value and its definitely a dining experience you won't forget.
This was my 3rd visit to Gamba and certainly won't be my last, look forward to returning again.
A visit back to one of our favourite restaurants. It did not disappoint! Three course pre-theatre for £21 - excellent value and excellent food with friendly, attentive staff. Sorted our voucher out no problem! If you go, you must try at least one fish dish (although there are meat and veg alternatives!).
We had a birthday celebration diner at Gamba's, family of 4 with two kids 14 & 10. Service was very attentive especially with the kids, informative & very helpful about the menu & wine. Waiters & waitress interacted regularly with kids taking photos & making sure all was well with the meal.
We are kind of a Seafood Family so we all had a different main from the menu, Cod, Seabass, Scallops & lobster. All were cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely fantastic.
We could not fault anything from our experience at Gamba, just Excellent Excellent Excellent.
Many thanks from the Winters family for a memorable night.
The overall experience was superb. The presentation and the taste of the food were great.
The best lobster Thermidor I have reverted had.
Great Saturday lunch £21 for 3 courses with glass of wine. Staff went out of their way to accommodate us with a young baby in a large pram! Great food and lovely atmosphere
We have dined here, probably 8 or 9 times. Always received a nice welcome with good service but this time we did not feel the usual welcome, nor did any of the waiting staff engage in any conversation. Restaurant not greatly busy at 6pm! Not sure why this was the case, hope it was just a one off! Now to the food, we always have the fish soup to start which was delicious and piping hot, it's a favourite of ours. Mains a little more difficult to choose from but what we got was nice. Deserts were not appealing to us so we asked for some ice cream which was brought to us quickly and without any fuss. All in all a nice meal and we will return but sincerely hope the previous good service etc is forthcoming.
I booked this restaurant for a lunch with a colleague after a business meeting nearby. I chose it for its location and based on the reviews online which seemed good. It was lovely, better than I had expected. It was not busy when we went, which meant that we had a table in the corner without anyone next to us - if it was full it might feel a bit cramped. however the service was excellent and the food outstanding. A 3 course lunch cost just £21 - superb value for money. Would definitely go there again. However there are stairs down to it which would make it difficult for disabled access.
The finest, freshest fish cooked imaginatively and served by nice people in lovely surroundings.
Aperitif was wonderful, fantastic food, pleasant and attentive service.
Great food and outstanding value. always fabulous food with great choice for everyone
Another fab pre theatre dinner on a dreich evening in Glasgow.
We had a lovely time at Gamba. The food and service was very good. Although we were hidden behind a pillar the staff was very attentive and we never felt neglected. The food was good especially the scallop and monkfish. A lovely way to finish a holiday in Glasgow.
Faultless meal, excellent value would recommend to anyone wanting a good meal in Glasgow. Will definitely go again!
First time we have visited this restaurant and will be back. The service was good and the food was melt in your mouth material. Definetly recommend a visit to gamba
Visiting from the US. Awesome all around experience...from the food to the service. The Oysters were some of the best we have had. The Fish was fresh and prepared perfectly. One of the oysters was a little less than fresh (which can happen and not detected until you put bite into it) and the staff promptly replaced it.
First visit in a very long time and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent and the service was first class. Good portion sizes - we certainly weren't hungry when we finished! Will definitely be back sooner rather than later.
