Excellent food good service and a comfortable environment to eat in.
Very small down side to the night was, first, it annoys me when the tip is pre added to the bill even though it is a discretionary addition and can be removed, I like to give my own tip, second, I asked for a second bottle of water and never received it but noticed on the bill later that I was charged for it.
40th birthday and the waitress was lovely, the ambience was a bit rubbish but that was because it was a rainy Monday!
I would not recommend the Beef and Wine Deal at all.... rather just go for the standard menu
Nice quiet restaurant, good quality steak but both steak and chips seemed a little undercooked
Great food, lovely wine and excellent, knowledgeable service.
Food was lovely, staff looked after us very well, it was very quiet though which was surprising.
After having a steak there, I was violently sick all night as was my boyfriend who had the same steak (it was a sharing one). Very disappointed as normally love steak at gauchos
great service and value using a timeout voucher - quiet during the week so nice for a romantic meal but lacked atmosphere.
Good steak again - as it always has been when we have been to this restaurant
Staff were pleasant, steak superb, drinks pretty good.
Place was empty. Bife de Chorizo was okay but nothing special. Portion size of sides getting smaller. Bread basket getting smaller.
The food was fantastic, the same service and romantic atmosphere.
Despite the restaurant not being very busy they put us, six larger than average men, on a smallish round table that would have comfortably seated four. Result, a couple of split drinks and struggle to fit the sharing platters on the table.
I could understand it if the restaurant was busy but “manager” a bit of thought goes a long way.
I guess on the positive it meant conversation was easier:-).
The food as always is pricey but you know that before you go and the steaks as always were perfect.
Great table, great service and very good food! Would definately come again...
Marcello our waiter was more than excellent. His deep knowledge about each different steak cut and how best to consume it was excellent and made the whole experience much more interesting. Would definitely recommend it.
They could cook a nice steak but could not cook a chocolate desert. Two failed attempts let the restaurant down.
My belly was contented. Very good service, and the set menu was good value
I came with a friend on a time out offer (£60 for steak, sides, 1 bottle of wine). I wasn't sure what to expect, but the meat was really good (tender & succulent). It also came with Picanha sauce which was delicious. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Overall a really good experience!
High prices, small portions. I wanted to cancel booking and they told me i could not if not i would have to pay £20 per head, very stupid.
Fantastic as always. Staff are knowledgable, welcoming and friendly. Throughly recommend!
fantastic pre birthday meal - love the Gaucho not my usual 5 stars as had to return my steak (this can happen no matter where you go). They offered to redo the whole meal but we shared the first steak while the second one cooked - all delicious and even got a present as an apology. well done Gaucho Smithfield
very quiet restaurant, good food but expensive to be honest
Nice atmosphere nice staff nice food presentation... ordered sweetbread as starter, two different type of steak to share, stem broccoli and tomato salad as side and a mushroom sauce. Stem broccoli was a bit overcooked. Slight disappointed as I was expecting crunchy stem broccoli. Love the tomato salad though, very refreshing. Sweetbread will be better I reckon if it's deep fried.
Gaucho Smithfield. 12 Jan 19. Ordered the fillet, medium rare. Unfortunately the steak wasn't prepared correctly and rested appropriately. As a result when I cut into it, it bled everywhere and was tough to eat. The chips were cold. The spinach wet. The bearnaise sauce flavourless. I'm sorry, but if you wan't a half decent steak on the 'high street' you're better off going to Goodman.
Service was really good and meat lovers will not be disappointed.
Probably the best steaks in London . I have been going to Groucho for many years. The menu choice has cut back over the years , but the quality of the meat and the wine has always been top level.
The bar service was a bit slow considering the numbers in the restaurant but the service at the table was excellent , efficient and informative .
My wife and I love the Gaucho Smithfield. The staff was amazing! Everyone was so welcoming and attentive to us throughout the evening even though they were extremely busy. The food was terrific and the portions were huge!
The meat we had was very well prepared and it was an amazing dining experience. I would certainly recommend this place if you're visiting London and are near the Farringdon station.
Meat was outstanding, and the service was great .
Went New Year’s Eve and there was a great buzz - DJ kept a smooth mix of music going and good volume without it being too intrusive. Steaks excellent, as you’d expect. A couple of the puddings inc the fondant were noteworthy. Mac and cheese is interesting with chorizo sausage but was also a bit dry. The waiters were great and helpful with food and wine choices, as always, but service really seemed stretched. Naturally a busy time so I’ve been kind to the score - we left around 45 mins later than planned. Would go back though.
Decor needs urgent investment starting to look rather tired.
We went to Gaucho Smithfield as part of our work Christmas party. The food was amazing as expected, however due do a busy time in December, the restaurant was quite noisy.
Great steaks and great service. Would definitely return
Great steaks, sides and sauces. Excellent empanada selection to start for sharing.
Tables are small. Ideal for two, cramped for four. Noise level was high but some large groups on Christmas meals were present.
I hadn’t been to Gaucho for years so wanted to go there with friends to celebrate a friend’s engagement.
When I went a few years ago it felt like a quality establishment, this time it felt trashy with drunk rowdy customers shouting orders at the staff.
Nevertheless we ordered. Some from the set menu and some a-la-carte. Here were the issues:
Half the starters came cold and needed to be redone.
4 out of the 5 steaks ordered were not cooked correctly. The chips were cold.
The desserts weren’t nice
Cocktails very average
Toilets were disgusting
Given the number of great steak places in London, Gaucho feels dated and inadequate.
Whilst I did receive and apologetic email after and a free drink I’m afraid I won’t be returning. Gaucho has had its day!
I have eaten at Gaucho Smithfield several times over the last 5-6 years, and the food continues to be excellently prepared and presented. I enjoy the depth of the Argentinian wine list, and had a nice bottle of Tannat, which I seem to only find at Gaucho. Overall a high quality dining experience for a Friday night.
Absolutely fantastic food and beautiful wine, waiter was attentive and friendly and the maitre de is an asset to the restaurant.
Would definitely recommend!
Great service. They know their meats and how to cook it.
I'll surely repeat it.
Service was very poor. We were at the table for 15 mins before a waiter came. Drinks and ordering then took a long time. Once the starter order was made things ran very smoothly. Food was lovely which partially made up for the service. What could have been a delightful evening was marred by the service. However, I would go back again as hopefully this was a one off.
Great service from Yannis really topped off the experience
Great place after a trip to The Barbican, great food, although very quiet on a Saturday
