We had the vegan tasting menu. I am vegetarian, my sister a firm meat-eater. We enjoyed it, some courses more than others. The mushroom tortellini was one of the nicest things I have eaten out!

Staff were attentive without being intrusive.

A nice treat.

It was worse than `poor`.Having read very complimentary reviews, I think the chef and manager must have been on hols when we came to Gauthier last Thursday 4th July. I adore French food from provincial cafes to grand Paris restaurants but what a disaster at this place. Everything was dreadful. Having been let in, three of us were left huddled in the narrow entrance feeling rather awkward. Our other guest who arrived a few minutes later had to ring the bell three times before being let in. Then we were led upstairs where there seemed to be more staff than guests. I opted for the tasting menu with a guest and the other two for the vegetarian equivalent. All courses were bland and totally disappointing, even with additional sauces added with a flourish. With the one exception that was totally over powered with truffle. I left most of my courses, as did my guest, much to the consternation of staff. It was difficult to explain quite how bad the food was in front of everyone. However when we suggested that we should have opted for the vegetarian menu, the other two said that they disliked it just as much. Even the two large glass vases in the windows were just about empty which explained the dead and drooping flowers, as pointed out by the other table. What a disaster and so embarrassing as we wanted to impress a special client.

Truly exceptional summer tasting menu. The service was outstanding and made very special for our anniversary and the champagne (Deutz) and Provence rose both a glorious accompaniment. One if the very best London restaurants which doesn’t need the glitz to sell itself

Gauthier is a classy, cosy and relaxed fine dining restaurant. The staff provided excellent service (shout out to Anne-Charlotte who was very friendly and enthusiastic about the dishes).
It is the perfect place to bring family, partners or colleagues for an elegant meal.
*
We usually go for the lunch deluxe menu which is great value (£50 including 3 drinks) but on this occasion we were swayed by the tasting menu which was also only £50 but without as many drinks included - see last photo for the menu.
*
A complimentary and creative amuse bouche is provided to everyone and is always a highlight of the meal. Today we had faux gras which is a vegan equivalent of foie gras made from lentils and other things you wouldn’t individually identify. The result is impressively close to the real thing and has achieved the flavour although the texture is different. It was sublime with the lightly fried sourdough bread. I could easily be converted if the full vegan menu is that good.
*
Special mention for the cod which we expected to be a standard fish course but it was anything but average - it was delicate, creamy, tender and complimented perfectly by the delicious jus. The sauces accompanying all the dishes were exceptional.

My husband and I came here specifically to try the vegan taster menu when we realised that it was fine dining created by a fellow vegan. We were not disappointed.
The first course of carrot tartar was a real piece of theatre as it was minced at the table. We were encouraged to 'participate' by trying it with different accompaniments. Stunningly delicious for such simple ingredients. The next seven courses were equally tasty as was the wine which was enhanced by the very knowledgeable sommelier.

What a fantastic place. Took my husband here for his birthday and had an amazing experience. it's so refreshing to dine somewhere where the chef is so passionate about plant-based cuisine and it's not seen as an afterthought. Every dish was so delicious and the service was faultless. Attentive and friendly without being pretentious. Wish I could give it more than five stars!

Incredible anniversary dinner at Gauthier Soho! We had the vegan tasting menu and were amazed by the chef's creativity and the delicacy of the dishes. The wine pairings were also a highlight: the sommelier was incredibly knowledgeable and served a selection that perfectly complemented each course. The tortellini was the best both of us have had and our only complaint was that the main course was far from being the highlight of the meal. The zucchini dish was way too light and I would generally expect something more substantial and less vegetable-centered. I believe mushrooms would have made a mush better centerpiece for a main. Thank you, Gauthier!

First time at a Michelin star restaurant, mainly as we are non meat eaters but Gauthiers vegan taster menu was perfect for us.
The flavours exceeded our expectations and the theatre of the whole thing was brilliant.
Knowledgable staff and just the right amount of attention.
The only small thing we disliked because it is a really strong pet hate of ours, is the automatic service charge. Accepted that it was a suggested amount, in effect it is an automatic charge . We paid it anyway but the issue is that in our opinion the client should choose if and how much to pay for service. It is a personal view and didn’t spoil the evening one bit.

Good ambience at Friday lunchtime, all tables were filled. Tables far enough apart to enable easy conversation. Normal tasting menu was very good and value for money. Portion sizes quite small but with the rich flavoursome sauces this was not an issue by the end of the meal. The vegetarian foie gras amuse-bouche was surprisingly tasty although not perhaps a replacement for the genuine article. Service was efficient but not overdone. The end of meal petit fours were a little disappointing as they seemed a bit undercooked and doughey but the jellies were good . The wine list was extensive but pricey with not much to choose under £50.

We had a fantastic meal celebrating my birthday. The interior is stunning. We picked the vegan taster menu with paring wines. The food and wine were outstanding. Beautifully presented and full of flavours. The staff were exceptionally attentive. The wine and food waiter both gave us interesting explanations of each item on the menu as it came out. As vegans, we feel that it is without doubt the best vegan meal we have ever experienced and look forward to returning. If you're looking for that special place, this is it! Thank you for a lovely meal.

The service was excellent up to the point that 9 pm arrived and we were given our final dessert course very hurriedly and suddenly made to feel very time-pressured. A waiter came and removed two of our dessert plates even though the third member of our party was still eating and we were presented with the bill without asking for it and told that the 9.30 sitting was due. At no time were we the cause of any delay, being at our table as agreed at 6.30 pm and not taking our time over any of the courses. I'm afraid to say that I have never experienced such inconsiderate service at a "fine dining" establishment.

The table next to ours was occupied twice. On the first occasion the couple seated there appeared to be ignored by the staff and ultimately stood up and left. On the second occasion a disagreement took place between the patrons and a member of staff over the timing of the booking and location of the table and that party also left the restaurant. Both episodes cast a shadow over our enjoyment of the meal.

We loved our meal at Gauthier. It was our son’s 21st birthday and we are a family of 2 vegans, 3 meat eaters and 1 vegetarian with allergies to pine nuts, cashews and pistachios so not the easiest group to cater for but we could not have been happier. We all had the tasting menus and we all felt the standard of cuisine was second to none. I want to emphasise this as we often find that either the meat eaters or the vegans are well catered for, not usually both. We also had the wine chosen to go with the various dishes and we were very happy with that decision too. The ambience was friendly and relaxed. The restaurant gave my son some lovely little cakes to make the occasion particularly special. We liked the fact that you had to ring the bell to be allowed in-it felt as if you were special guests at a private house party. We will definitely be back. The restaurant is unique-thanks for a lovely evening. It was a nice touch that the sparkling water for the table was at no extra charge.

Terrific service, knowledgeable and courteous staff, fantastic tasting menu - and at last somewhere that takes plant based cuisine seriously and comes up with imaginative and tasty menu at least as good as it’s ‘normal’ menu. Our group of mixed vegans and non vegans consequently had a wonderful night out.
It is a little pricey but given the spectacular experience week worth it - I’d rather eat out less frequently but eat like this when I do.

Food at Gauthier was excellent, wine list was reasonable but not exactly extensive. Our table of two was fairly close to the nieghbouring table which was not great. Would be fine on one of the larger tables where you have more space to other table. Service was patchy and let the food down, we were never offered bread until near the end of our meal, had to ask for the wine list twice, and got the wrong drinks. Prices were good for the standard of the food. Overall I would not hesitate to go back to Gauthier if someone booked there, but I probably would not make a point of doing so myself.

There were four of us and we had three menus between us - two vegan (one with paired wine) and two non vegan. None of us are vegans, but we felt we needed to find out and experiment more. We were delighted with everything: wonderful, inventive, very tasty and excellent food and wine, and very professional but relaxed service. They clearly aim to wholly please their guests, and they succeed par excellence. It really was a memorable evening. Thank you.
