About Gazette Brasserie Balham
London's most authentic French Brasseries with three venues in the capital, GAZETTE captures the essence of local French village cafés with a commitment to fantastic seasonal food, wine discovery and true hospitality all served in comfortable informal surroundings from breakfast through dinner.
GAZETTE was originally born in Battersea in 2007 and had a gentle expansion with the opening of the Balham and Putney branches. GAZETTE is described by owners Pascal Even and Walter Lecocq as a rural style of French brasserie, one you’d find in Provincial areas of France.
Both want it to reflect the spirit of local French cafés and offer a cuisine that is simple, generous and vivacious, with lots of daily specials and on-going food events, and where transpires the warmth and cordiality of true French cuisine.

Gazette Brasserie Balham Ratings and Reviews
We visited Gazette based on a list of the more notable restaurants in Balham, on TripAdvisor. The reviews were a mixed bag, so we didn't have particularly high expectations coming in, however Gazette really impressed us. The staff was very friendly, and the food was really excellent. Given that it's in London, it was also very good value, two in our party had a generous chunk of Swordfish with nicely sautéed vegetables for £16.00, a far cry from the small slice of steak we'd had for the same price at a restaurant just round the corner. The only slight criticism I have is that the decor isn't particularly remarkable, and it's situated on a fairly busy road. Having said that, it's on my list of to-do again, especially for the Chateaubriande Mondays.
Came to Gazette for our 10th anniversary meal and it was outstanding. From service to the food. We arrived late on a Monday and never felt rushed to finish. The staff were attentive and the food was delicious. I had the chicken liver parfait followed by the steak tartar and my boyfriend had the ham hock followed by the fillet steak. All were fantastic. Can not recommend enough.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch at Gazette Balha. Very nice restaurant, bistro style, casual and relaxed. Food was excellent based on a French bistro menu. I'm not long back from a holiday in France and the food at Gazette was better than anything I had tasted in France . Plenty of choice and well priced. The Pomme Tarte Fine dessert was exceptional.
Suitable for families, friends, couples and also great disabled access too.
Definitely would recommend.
We were looking for somewhere child friendly for brunch in Balham and this place was great! Lots of space, highchairs, baby change and a slate table my toddler could chalk on. She's never been so quiet in a restaurant! Food was delicious too. Will definitely be going back.
I had chosen to meet friends for dinner here as I often visit for brunch on a Saturday. 3 of us ordered steak, including myself and it was delicious, the chips were also amazing and a very generous portion. My veggie friend (who likes to complain that there are never enough veggie option anywhere) was pleased with her dish.
We are a great time at Gazette for a birthday party. The service was outstanding and the food excellent. they are very accommodating and helpful with the organisation. Ordered a birthday cake and it was excellent with very nice portions. We loved the privacy of the space at the back.
Took my girlfriend to the Gazette early on a Saturday night and had a brilliant evening. The staff were attentive but not intrusive, the menu was great with good options for even the most picky palate, the food was delicious and the ambiance was very good. I think this would be suitable not just for a date but also as a place to eat with family and friends, we will certainly be going back!
We went to Gazette last Saturday for the first time and really enjoyed our date night. Both my husband and I are French and we were missing French food so we had an amazing Vacherin (melted cheese to share) with new potatoes and a delicious delicatessen plate to share as well. We ordered a Bourgogne (red wine) with our meal, and although we were not hungry anymore after the Vacherin we had les 'petits pots de chocolat' with hand made madeleines. It was really good.
Service was great too, all waiters are French and really professional. Atmosphere was cosy and romantic, but also very lively.
I would definitely recommend Gazette to all French food lovers!
Always love coming here. Great service. Delicious food and very good house red which is a huge plus. Nowadays many restaurants seem to have awful house wine which as it is supposed to be recommend by 'the house' seems wrong on all counts. The house wine at Gazette is always delicious. Food - superb!!
