Gazette Brasserie Battersea
GAZETTE was originally born in Battersea in 2007 and had a gentle expansion with the opening of the Putney branch. GAZETTE is described by owners Pascal Even and Walter Lecocq as a rural style of French brasserie, one you’d find in Provincial areas of France.
Both want it to reflect the spirit of local French cafés and offer a cuisine that is simple, generous and vivacious, with lots of daily specials and on-going food events, and where transpires the warmth and cordiality of true French cuisine.

Interesting menu choices in a restaurant that does French cuisine proud. As the menu changes frequently there is always something new to try.
Disappointing French food doing the basics. Didn't seem to handle a full restaurant. We were a table of 11
Outdated and the food was poorly seasoned and burnt in some areas
Hi Anonymous, Apologies for the food not having been up to our usual standard. Did you notify a member of our staff? Did we manage to correct the issue?
My family’s favorite neighborhood restaurant - extremely friendly, great food and drinks and my four year old will eat the vegetables
Dear DeirdreA, Thank you so much for taking the time to review us and a great score. We’re so happy we’re ticking all the boxes with the entire family. Very much looking forward to seeing you again soon. The Gazette Battersea team
Very generous portions of excellent food. I’ve been a fan and regular diner for over a decade. Congratulations on maintaining the highest standards. Crab starter and moules frites splendid. How ever often I go I wonder why not more. Lovely evening thank you very much Doug
Thank you so much for taking the time to review us and a fantastic score. Your kind words made us very happy. We’re looking forward to seeing you again soon. The Gazette Battersea Team.
Bathrooms were blocked and there was the noise of the pumps going for a while. My husband and son’s moules were strangely over and under-cooked. Many couldn’t be opened and others were mushy. We were there for a Father’s Day meal but it was rather disappointing. Service was also slow - took 20 mins to clear our plates but they weren’t that busy. We were the only table in our section. Felt it was rather tired. Menus pretty scruffy. Won’t be rushing back which is a shame because we were returning after not going for a few years.
Dear ClareM, Thank you for taking the time to review us and we’re very sorry if your latest visit to our restaurant was disappointing. Your feedback has been duly noted and very much appreciated as it will help us to improve. The Gazette Battersea Team
Excellent food and lovely atmosphere. Service was very slow, but it was probably a particularly busy day (Fathers Day).
Relaxed French dining. Food is fab. Service sweet and lovely atmosphere. Take a stroll along the river after your meal
Hi JamesM, Thank you so much for giving us a great score and taking the time to review us. We’re so happy you’ve enjoyed our food and hospitality. We’re all looking forward to seeing you again soon. The Gazette Putney Team 😁🙏
Place looked rather down on its heels.
couple of years since we have been here, feels a bit tired. Bread was stale, only one of outside heaters worked.
Expensive and not as French feeling as before.
Asked if the place had a new owner ?? Apparently not- pull your socks up.
Hi MartinD, Thank you for having taking the time to review us and we’re sorry if we were not up to your expectation. It’s always a difficult balance to have: being just rightly french. Apologies for the bread and the outside heater not working on the day of your visit. We will do our best to pull our socks up.
They were amazing - transporting ingredients from Putney when they’d run out of the special - above and beyond!!!
Dear Vickia, Many thanks for having taking the time to review us and for a great score, it was a pleasure having you and your friends at our Battersea venue and we’re glad to have made you happy and well fed. The Gazette Battersea Team 😁🙏
My new favourite restaurant!
Thank you for the excellent experience
Dear GustavoS, Thank you so much for giving us a great score and a great review. We’re glad you had a lovely time with us and we’re certainly hope to see you again soon. The Gazette Battersea Team🥳🎉
Always excellent food, I live very near to it and my favourite place to go for any meal either breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Dear SadiaB, Thank you so much for a great review and a top notch score. We’re very happy that Gazette tick all the boxes. We’re very much looking forward to seeing you soon. The Gazette Battersea Team 😁🥳
Still a lovely restaurant. New shorter menu should be better but we were disappointed. Caesar salad was all lettuce with mozzarella instead of parmesan. Asparagus was small, over-priced and average. The restaurant was short-staffed (they at least told us) so service was slow. French service is part of Gazette's appeal but this time it was too slow and unresponsive. Overall disappointing.
Dear RichardD, Thank you for having taking the time to review us and please do accept our full apologies for not having been up to our usual standard. As you did noticed, it wasn’t a usual day at Gazette Battersea and I’m very conscious that the level of service and quality of food you received was far below our usual standard. We certainly hope to see you again soon and make it up to you if we may. The Gazette Battersea Team
Have been to this restaurant several times over the last few months and have always had good service and excellent food.
Hi New2dine, Thank you very much for having taking the time to review us and giving us a great score. We’re so happy you’ve enjoyed our food and received good service on all your recent visits at our Battersea restaurant. We’re very much looking forward to seeing you again soon. The Gazette Battersea Team 😁
Delicious Sunday lunch. The chateaubriand is always excellent. I started with the seasonal morel creme and my husband had snails which are another staple on the menu. Great as always, all round.
Dear JHJL, Many thanks for taking the time to review us and giving us a great score. We’re so happy you had a great time with us at Gazette Battersea. High five from the entire Team 🙏😁
Sent under cooked (raw in some parts) salmon back and they in turn, pan fried into flakes and put back on plate; not what I expect from a restuarant and they still charged full fare.
Good cocktails and bar staff; inexperienced waiter.
Was sat right next to the culterly area in an empty restuarant, noisy and distracting.
Hi StevenE, Thank you for taking the time to review us and we’re sorry to hear of your not so great experience at our restaurant and that we fell below your expectations. Your feedback are very much appreciated as it will help us to get better. Gazette Battersea Team
Really great menu - I would have happily eaten anything on it - and everything we did eventual order was delicious. It was a bit quiet for a Friday probably due to the fact it's a little bit off the main track but it's well worth a visit
Hi Amyj, Many thanks for taking the time to review us and we’re glad you had a great time with us and enjoyed our food. We're very much looking forward to seeing you. The Gazette Battersea Team 😁
Good family lunch location
Hi Marc, Many thanks for taking the time to review us and thank you for a great score. We’re very much looking forward to seeing you again. The Gazette Battersea Team 😀
Not the usual standard.

First visit to this location, second visit to Gazette. Ambiance at the Putney location is better. More quaint and cozy. Food was nice but wait was quite long for mains. Service was sporadic. Had to repeat order multiple times. Location is in newer part of Battersea being built up so there is nothing else in this area. Would be nicer in the summer when can sit outside. would come back.
Hello, Many thanks for taking the time to review us. We’re glad you’ve enjoyed our other branch in Putney. We’re sorry if you had to wait some time for your mains and repeat your order. We’re looking forward to seeing you again and hopefully the weather would permit you to be on our lovely terrace. Best wishes. Gazette Battersea Team
As usual a very high standard of food and service in a pleasant, quiet atmosphere. We will return again and again.
Thank you team Gazette for a lovely Sunday lunch with the family!
All in all it was good
On arrival our other guests were late however due to this we felt ignored until they arrived. On asking for gf bread and bread while we waited they didn’t listen and only brought normal bread and continued to ignore us again. Unfortunately this put me in a difficult situation as gf customer as I am 8 months pregnant and was beginning to feel quite faint for needing food. I feel more attention to us would have been nice.
Service was bad. Wrong orders delivered and we left because our desert took 40 mins.
Parfait! This is a stalwart and can always be trusted to deliver a great dining experience in classic French style. I lived in France for 8 years and Gazette Brasserie Battersea brings back all the joi d'vivre of living in a nation of culinary delights. Thank you to charming owner Walter, Costa the exceptional manager and the entire team of waiters and chefs...
The valentines set menu was divine, atmosphere amazing and overall value was great. The most authentic French experience in Battersea
Located in a modern building on the Thames the moment you walk in you know you’re in a proper French restaurant run by the French. Always a lovely meal. Specials are excellent and the service is efficient and unobtrusive.
Recommended. Amazing outside on the terrace in summer too.
Awful service, expensive for what you get and the level of service you receive.
WE have been to this restaurant on a regular basis for the pat 10 years and this last Sunday experience was very poor not to mention that 2 of us felt very sick after the lunch. service was very poor and we did not feel welcomed. will go back ... to the Putney one!
To go for fondue that the restaurant emailed their clients to enjoy at Gazette during the month of January. But not fondue was on offer despite arriving at 7.30!
I think you may be the person I called earlier to personally express my apologies for this issue, we had a delivery problem which we thought we could resolve in time, unfortunately it wasn't the case, we make our fondue and don't buy it already made, it takes skills and getting the right ingredients and 3 specific variety of cheeses. It is not acceptable and I understand your frustration, your review is probably what we deserve but was not necessary.
Excellent food and ambience as usual.
Would recommend to everyone.
We had a lovely meal. There is a lively atmosphere in restaurant. Unfortunately the manager was incredibly rude to our waiter who seemed to be looking after the entire restaurant and was doing a good job. Seeing the manager behave so obnoxiously towards his staff was quite offputting.
High quality. Good food and service. Maybe a bit pricey, or it might just be I'm not used to London prices. Even at the price a good experience.
I read the reviews before eating here and took a chance...what a massive mistake! We were disappointed with each course. We ordered the escargot and the muscles as our appetisers, steak and duck as our mains, and apple tart and creme brûlée for desert...
Let me just say how shocking each dish was...we spent well over £100 for two people.
The escargot was gritty and tasteless...had a flavour of actual dirt...does that count as a spice?!? Seemed to me that they’re harvesting their snails from the garden without cleaning them first!
The muscles were also tasteless! Utter crime to ruin good food with no flavour...not even salt or garlic!
The steak tasted nice but was served at the wrong temperature as well as the duck neither was cooked to our requests.
Worse yet the duck as so tough we swore it’d been in the microwave. You know that texture, it’s unmistakable!!!
Next, the desert I had what was meant to be an apple tart...it was soggy and flavourless once again as this was the theme of the night it only seems fitting that the apple tart should also be devoid of flavours and shape!!!
I had to send it back it was so bad!!!
The brûlée was creamy sponge without taste...it’s as if the chef was afraid of using his spices ...perhaps he's just old and can no longer taste...at least than there’s be an explanation as to how the food could have be so completely absent of flavour!!!
Expensive and worthless!!!
We travel to London from Spain to celebrate New Years Eve. Maybe we expect more festive ambiance, but Gazette was a very good choice, we enjoy meal, sevice and location. We would come back in summer.
We had Christmas lunch at the Gazette; and it was wonderful as always. The staff were very attentive (kept topping up our drinks); food arrived promptly yet not too fast to ensure we had time between courses. Everything was delicious and very festive! The wine list is comprehensive - there's something for everyone's taste and price bracket.
High quality food that caters to all.
A very enjoyable and relaxing Christmas lunch for the office staff.
Everyone had a good time.
Food as always was excellent traditional French.
Chateau Britain’s was excellent.
Washed down with some good wines.
Damage to wallet not too bad.
We will be bringing the office again.
Delicious food and great service, this is the first time I have been to your restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed the starter (crab cake), main (mussells and chips) and madeline cakes.
