GAZETTE was originally born in Battersea in 2007 and had a gentle expansion with the opening of the Balham and Putney branches. GAZETTE is described by owners Pascal Even and Walter Lecocq as a rural style of French brasserie, one you’d find in Provincial areas of France.
Both want it to reflect the spirit of local French cafés and offer a cuisine that is simple, generous and vivacious, with lots of daily specials and on-going food events, and where transpires the warmth and cordiality of true French cuisine.
East Putney tube station is 5 minutes walk from the restaurant (turn left when you exit the station).

Pleasant environment, great wine... Food was good but could have been better - Although I'm not easily pleased.
We enjoyed ourselves. Worth a visit, but keep your expectations at a modest level.
My boyfriend and I came here for our weekly date night. I’ve been to gazette a few times and this was my partners first visit. We shared the charcuterie board to start. He than had calamari risotto and I had belly pork with shared potato dauphinois. We than shared a crepe and drank watermelon cocktails. All absolutely to die for and perfectly cooked. We love gazette!! Your staff are also charming. Thank you
We have been going to Gazette for many years and have always had tasty meals and lovely friendly service but since Jean Luc left the restaurant has gone down hill.
The portions are now much smaller, the steaks were fabulous now not so.
The service is brusque, and not very attentive.
We had a family get together before our sons wedding last week and it was not good, one plate was sent back with no apology.
It will be a great shame if we have to find another local restaurant to use for suppers.
Get your act together Gazette.
Fantastic restaurant with lots of gorgeous french dishes and amongst them a favourite, seared Fois gras. Great value and great service. Thank you.
We will absolutely be back again soon
Very disappointed to find new menu. Longstanding old one had been excellent and comfortable so us regulars knew what to expect - it worked well and locals had liked it so why change it for something less good ?
New menu has good choices. Staff as always pleasant and friendly.
It was a relaxed good restaurant. They serve lovely and interesting food and drinks
The service was good also
My favourite restaurant in Putney - amazing food and great service
It is a great French bistro. Great food, great wine.
Very relaxing venue with authentic French cuisine and professional but not overly attentive service. I would recommend this to anyone. Thank you...We will be back soon!
The restaurant was very busy but too noisy at the back. Our food was very average, I had a tiny piece of cod and the potato risotto was really not great.
Having been a fan of Gazette previously I felt very disappointed in the main courses. It felt like the restaurant couldn’t cope with the volume of customers.
Delicious French food. Friendly and helpful service
Not my first time at Gazette and I "persuaded" four friends to sign up for Friday night dinner during the "Suckling Pig" week.
As ever, service was excellent , the atmosphere congenial and the Suckling Pig - pig four ways on a plate with dauphinoise potatoes on the side - was very good. My only grumble would be that the portions were a little on the small side. With two (smallish) side dishes of green beans and two of creamed spinach - very tasty - and delicious puds and two bottles of wine AND the 12.5% "discretionary" service charge, the £19 "Suckling Pig" dish grew to £53 each...
However, Gazette is certainly worth visiting, if only to "Pig" out on the marrow bone...
Excellent suckling pig special
Food was very good, but the service could have been a lot friendlier. Authentic I guess, but in London you can expect at least a smile. Cheapest wines about £30/35. Not bad, but not great.
This was our first visit and was for a mother and son catch up on a Monday evening - which happened to be steak night so suited us perfectly. The staff were very welcoming and the Chateaubriand was absolutely delicious, as well as very good value. My duck wasn't as tasty as it could have been, but was still enjoyable. The puddings were gorgeous - particularly the apple tart. A great find, very local for us and we will definitely be back!
3rd visit in 6 weeks. excellent food prepared simply and expertly. staff friendly and not too fussy. Putney needs good bistro style food.
We had an early dinner on Saturday 28th April. Food was fabulous. Attentive service. Will certainly recommend.
Proper French bistro in the heart of Putney. Great food and a very well priced wine list. Always buzzing. Good service. Go for it you won’t regret.
Overall I thought this was a very poor restaurant. Firstly, I cannot believe that French restaurant cannot cook a medium rare steak. It may have been the fault if the waiter or the chef. Nevertheless, the steak which was the smallest ribeye I have ever been served, was overcooked and looked rather sad and lonely on the plank. Strangely enough, the steak didn't come with anything. No chips!!! They were extra. The green beans were burnt in parts. The charred little gem garnish was actually OK.
When the bill came, it was 30% bigger than I expected. So never again for me.
This is a great neighbourhood restaurant ... excellent service, yummy cocktails and a great range of food options, from eggs benedict for lunch to steak frites for supper. The interior decor is very welcoming and the windows roll back on a hot night to make the interior cool - with a Mediterranean feel! We're not talking Michelin food but the quality is very good and the portions fair sized. The menu worked well for a group of fussy eaters... good veggie options, great burgers and some more Gallic dishes. This is an honest and friendly restaurant and deserves to do very well.
Great food like the way the restaurant specialises in ‘food thats in season’ and they create a very interesting menu!
Gazette is by far my favorite restaurant in Putney. The food is outstanding and the drinks are equally as good.
I took my boyfriend here as a mid week treat, and we both had a fantastic time. I had the chicken, and he had the duck and we shared some mashed potato. He had one of there cocktails which he said was amazing. All the food was cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. We than shared an apple tart and creme brulee for desert. Yummy!! It's a very good price for money coming just under £70. All the staff were very attentive and charming.
We will most definitely be back. Thank you Gazette, keep up the outstanding work.
Once again, Gazette came up trumps. I booked on the spur of the moment that afternoon for somewhere to eat in Putney (close to the train station) after a lecture in central London. It turned out to be Chateaubriand night - great value and delicious aged beef steak with bearnaise sauce and chips - who could want for anything more on a rainy rainy night. Staff welcoming and friendly even if I had booked for two (by mistake) and only one person turned up. One slight niggle - I do make a mean bearnaise sauce and I think mine beats that of Gazatte hands-down. Was it pre-made from a bottle - I didn't ask... and the portion of sauce was far tooooo small for the generous size steak.
Highly recommend Gazette as the best place to eat in Putney by miles.
Great food. Escargot and the frites were amazing. Wine selection was nice. My steak was a little under cooked from what I requested, but I still enjoyed it. Staff very friendly, however they seemed rushed and overwhelmed due to how busy it was. That said I would definitely go back. I really liked it.
Had a nice lunch here with a few friends and we had a nice meal. I had two courses which were specials and they were really good but my friends ordered not so well. The duck and steaks were both tough. The snails were good. The wine selection is really good and the service was good.
We are regular customers. Never got disappointed. Food is tasty, reasonably priced. Staff friendly.
Really great local restaurant in Putney. A real find. Very good value. Great service - plenty of attentive staff without being overbearing. Super wine list with lost of reasonable options. Very good sized meals (ie not enormous but not mean). Nice ambiance. Really super evening
Amazing everything. Service, food, wine, cocktails, all top!
We had the weekday set lunch and it was delicious and very good value.
6 dishes ordered, 2 first courses, 2 main and 2 puddings. One was outstanding (warm foie gras), others very good, and one was disappointing (overcooked duck). Ambience was very good, service was very helpful and friendly. Overall a lovely local restaurant, and would definitely recommend to others, and in spite of the one disappointing dish, I would go back for the warm foie gras which really was exceptionally good.
Excellent food and service; authentic French cuisine, and a decent selection of international beers.
Very good find! Service friendly and food well prepared. Very decent wine list, too. Reasonably priced for the quality. All seven at our table pleased with everything.
Fantastic lunch with friends. Food is very good and authentic French recipes , with big portions and fair prices for London. Service was wonderful - didn’t feel rushed. Highly recommend it!
Great atmosphere for a Saturday night. Excellent food. A little pricey but well worth itz Will definitely visit again!
Amazing food - lovely people - just a bit busy but it was snowing outside
Perfect spot for pre rugby international lunch with friends. Excellent service and delicious French bistro style food at sensible prices.
Absolutely fantastic French meal, prompt and friendly staff; not to mention knowledgeable. Will definitely visit again, one of my favourite cuisines executed phenomenally.
Gazette is by far and away the best restaurant in Putney after Enoteca Turi relocated to Chelsea. Very well crafted French bistro fare, well priced and very good service. Brunch is surprisingly good too, not normally a French forte; highly recommended if you're in the area
Ate there with my mother and all the food we ordered was way too salty.
