GAZETTE was originally born in Battersea in 2007 and had a gentle expansion with the opening of the Putney branch. GAZETTE is described by owners Pascal Even and Walter Lecocq as a rural style of French brasserie, one you’d find in Provincial areas of France.
Both want it to reflect the spirit of local French cafés and offer a cuisine that is simple, generous and vivacious, with lots of daily specials and on-going food events, and where transpires the warmth and cordiality of true French cuisine.
Lovely service and great food. found the prices quite high versus other places in the area, but overall nice experience.
All good thanks
Good atmosphere, staff very friendly and helpful. Poluet Bretton and Steak Bavette excellent, with a good selection of wines at various prices.
Loved the tables that allowed you to write on them like draft boards!!
Overall a very enjoyable evening.
Hello again. Two unfavourable reviews in the last month or so from me but the food was miles better this time around. A competent chef back in the kitchen and the duck was delicious. Spinach and garlic side nicely wilted as well.
Not sure why if there are cocktails on the menu that the bar staff have to read the recipe for same?
Wonder freebch bistro
Have been many times
Possibly the worst mussels I have ever eaten and the worst example of French food. This restaurant used to be a real favourite but quite frankly I will never return.
Great service but the food was not as good as the last time I went there. Snails were average and the duck was very chewy.
We had a super evening. Food very good. Just would like a Viognier white wine on the wine list!
I used to visit the Gazette in Balham so the one in Putney is the closest one. The food and service still excellent and my french friend told me that the food is very authentic.
The food was very nice and we were treated very well. We had a trainee waiter though who got a few things wrong, but I’m sure he will get better.
Amazing food and amazing service as always, love coming for dinner here
We had a delightful evening with American friends. All 8 diners were happy with all their food, and we were particularly charmed by being out in a separate quiet room to accommodate the member of the party who is severely hard of hearing. Thank you for your consideration.
First visit. Did not really know what to expect but was sensational. Look, it is not necessarily a destination place but perfect local French with great food, service and atmosphere and the steak tartare and frites as good as I have had anywhere. Loved it !
Gazette is a lovely restaurant in a good location with excellent food. Great value too.
A lovely lunch - very French. All four of us greatly enjoyed it
Great restaurant, reasonable prices and good food
This is the third time I have eaten at this restaurant - the food is simple but tasty and good value for money. The staff are very welcoming and friendly with quick service.
The only downside is if it is cold outside and you are sitting near the door. Although there are curtains to stop the draft every time the door opens - I still had to keep my coat on to keep warm...
Would definitely recommend La Gazette!
First time we visited here and we left wondering why we hadn't been before. A great find. It was busy even on a cold Monday evening. Food was excellent and the staff were lovely!
Very good food as usual the service good but they were missing their charismatic front of house that we missed. Without that there’s something missing....
Great food but service was a bit slow and also we had to do our order a few times so it actually got recorded correctly
We had a very good dinner at La Gazette in Putney. Wanted to take advantage of the Fondue special which is on until end of January. Service is outstanding if sometimes a bit slow. Our table had a weird chunk missing which turned one of the corners into a dangerously pointy end. We rotated it and then it was fine. Last but not least: we were so tired we couldn't finish our wine and they were so kind to pour it back into the bottle to take home. Extra points for that! :-)
I visited Gazette Putney many times and always had a good experience. Dishes are always great, staffs are friendly. I would like to say that here is the most tasteful restaurant in Putney.
Great lunch, lovely staff and fab food .. what else does one need?!
Delicious Christmas day lunch, service fantastic as always.
I've been to gazette Putney a number of times, but this visit was a disappointment. The starter I ordered was not available; neither was the wine we selected. The starter I picked instead (terrine de foie gras) was pleasant, but I had chateaubriand as my main course and neither it, nor the chips which accompanied it, were good. My partner's food was equally uninspiring. All told, we spent double what we would have done at the steak house down the road, for a meal that wasn't half as good. I doubt I'll go again...
Fantastic restaurant, great menu and excellent service, i am definitely coming back!
Great menu sadly the pheasant and duck just a bit over cooked and consequently tough. Shame for my guest having first taste of pheasant
The Chateaubriand steak was cooked perfectly. The bearnaise sauce was smooth and rich. Shared an apple tart with ice cream alongside the House red wine. Great atmosphere with friendly staff.
Brilliant experience as usual
I have been a fan of Gazette for many a year but this time around I felt let down. Having been in India and eating (good) curry for 3 meals a day I was looking forward to some continental cooking and imagining how that Bone Marrow on toast would taste.
When it (the bone marrow) came - it was very underwhelming and a bit "should I eat this at all?". The thin end of the bone was overcooked so that all the marrow had melted into fat and at the other end the bone marrow was red (ie. uncooked ) and quite cold. I did ask for it to be cooked further - it was to some extent - but that is never a good option and I should have just not eaten it at all. There were worries about BSE on my part.
The tomato tart (a bit like a Tartine) to follow was completely ruined by the heavy mustard seed dressing on the salad leaves that accompanied the tart. Note to chef: I do not think that cooked tomatoes and mustard seed dressing is a good taste combination.
Perhaps based on this experience, Gazette should be "gazetted"...
I won't be going back in a hurry.
Really nice staff and the food was brilliant. Definitely gets the thumbs up for all occasions!
We got tea (with no teabag), they forgot our wine order, spilt almost a full cup of coffee over me staining my suede boots, served inedible pepper sauce for steak...and for that experience we got compensated with one free coffee! Never again.
We are regulars at gazette but haven’t been since the menu change. Nothing was quite as good as it used to be from quality to quantity, presentation to service everything was just a bit off the usual standard we expect from gazette. Normally it would be an excellent meal at a sensible price (not cheap but excellent value for what you get) this time it was a nice meal for quite a lot of money which is not a good combo. I had some plastic in my salad and this was dealt with very well. A nice evening but not as special as usual.
Genuinely French with good service and food- ribeye steak was delicious
Good authentic French food - great seasonal changes
Negatives; tables are very close together. The steaks don't come with anything, so you have to buy the sides if you want chips and veg.
Positives; The quality of food was excellent, probably the best steaks in the area, the price of the food wasn't horrendous, the atmosphere was calm and the service matched it, even at busy times.
I only discovered this lovely French bistro because our daughter moved to the area a few months ago. We have now eaten there on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed good food and pleasant service.
Gazette always delivers a tasteful, fun night! Food is amazing, especially the boeuf Bourgignone and dauphinoise potatoes.
Great night out good steak, chips, apple tart and wine!
Lovely atmosphere on a wet Monday evening. Welcoming staff and good food - Monday night is special steak and chips evening which was perfectly cooked. Excellent venue for a couple of girlfriends catching up but just as good for a group or a date night! Lovely local restaurant.
