GAZETTE was originally born in Battersea in 2007 and had a gentle expansion with the opening of the Putney branch. GAZETTE is described by owners Pascal Even and Walter Lecocq as a rural style of French brasserie, one you’d find in Provincial areas of France.
Both want it to reflect the spirit of local French cafés and offer a cuisine that is simple, generous and vivacious, with lots of daily specials and on-going food events, and where transpires the warmth and cordiality of true French cuisine.
East Putney tube station is 2 minutes walk from the restaurant (turn left when you exit the station).
MY MONDAYS WITH CHATEAUBRIAND:
London's leading steak night £14.50
The Tuesday Mussels Challenge
1 KILO of mussels for only £10
LOBSTER CLUB every Thursday
Grilled whole lobster, lemon sauce or garlic butter, homemade fries £25
We got tea (with no teabag), they forgot our wine order, spilt almost a full cup of coffee over me staining my suede boots, served inedible pepper sauce for steak...and for that experience we got compensated with one free coffee! Never again.
We are regulars at gazette but haven’t been since the menu change. Nothing was quite as good as it used to be from quality to quantity, presentation to service everything was just a bit off the usual standard we expect from gazette. Normally it would be an excellent meal at a sensible price (not cheap but excellent value for what you get) this time it was a nice meal for quite a lot of money which is not a good combo. I had some plastic in my salad and this was dealt with very well. A nice evening but not as special as usual.
Genuinely French with good service and food- ribeye steak was delicious
Good authentic French food - great seasonal changes
Negatives; tables are very close together. The steaks don't come with anything, so you have to buy the sides if you want chips and veg.
Positives; The quality of food was excellent, probably the best steaks in the area, the price of the food wasn't horrendous, the atmosphere was calm and the service matched it, even at busy times.
I only discovered this lovely French bistro because our daughter moved to the area a few months ago. We have now eaten there on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed good food and pleasant service.
Gazette always delivers a tasteful, fun night! Food is amazing, especially the boeuf Bourgignone and dauphinoise potatoes.
Great night out good steak, chips, apple tart and wine!
Lovely atmosphere on a wet Monday evening. Welcoming staff and good food - Monday night is special steak and chips evening which was perfectly cooked. Excellent venue for a couple of girlfriends catching up but just as good for a group or a date night! Lovely local restaurant.
It was a birthday lunch celebration. We were well looked after but at times it did get a bit noisy for my father because of the acoustics and tight space. The food was delicious as always and I would definitely go back there.
Always enjoy it here...not Let down. Friendly staff and simple menu
Lovely staff, always feel welcome and great food!
My 4th visit and always good service and relaxed atmosphere. The food was very good - although the Campagne (terrine) starter is huge - half the amount of terrine would have been fine. It was delicious all the same and it meant my friends could have some too!
A menu that offers a wide range of excellent food and friendly efficient service.
Great food and service! It was so good on Monday, I went back on Tuesday for their mussels deal. It’s my new place to go in Putney.
Good food and service relatively expensive
Service was okay but food wasn’t great. The onion soup was tasteless.
Late lunch with our son who lives just down the road but had never been to Gazette. Drinks were very good, food was decent quality, smallish portions but a shame when poached eggs are solid-not a difficult skill for a chef! We were lucky to get the prime window seat so good for people watching. Nice place for casual lunch, would need to try main courses before deciding how good food is.(we had burger & two brunches).
The service was good , the restaurant was very chilly temperature wise on cold wet Nov eve , food poor & price very steep won’t be going back
Great experience with friendly staff, delicious food and warm atmosphere
I was dining alone and was not made to feel like a singleton. Everything was tasty and service was rather quick. I live near by so it was nicely convenient that I could get a reservation that was within 30 minutes. I will return!
Always great food and drinks in generous portions. The best chips in London.
Nice restaurant and great steak. Service a bit patchy at times.
Really great service this time (because of the new manager perhaps?)!
Food was not as good as usual, but would still recommend la gazette. maybe there was a new chef!
We loved Gazette - food was authentic, delicious, good attention to detail on ingredients and presentation. Staff were utterly charming and a good wine list, with options for all budgets. We were there on a Sat. night and the ambient noise levels were a little high, but it didn't spoil the evening. Definitely to be recommended!
The duck was over cooked and almost inedible. I was even asked how I wanted it and said pink which was acknowledged. The chickpeas that came with the swordfish were undercooked but the swordfish was good.
A shame as the Battersea offering is so so good
Delicious and authentic French food, awesome wine list and good selection of French cheeses. Service is hit and miss though: waitress turned her nose up at our 10% tip... as if that wasn’t enough?!
The staff are very nice but this restaurant always appears to be under-staffed!
This is our favourite local restaurant - the food is good, but it is the wonderful service that makes it stand out. My little girl wanted to have her birthday meal here and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, patient and friendly....particularly as two family member pitched up at the last minute meaning the kids took over their bus table with cake and birthday lego. Thank you for a great evening. The kids also love the tables and chalk which gives us a chance to talk and drink wine. If you manage to get there without children, the martinis are superb.
Great night, food and service! Would recommend to all
Nice meal for an evening out with the family. Thanks!
Excellent food always. Very authentic simple yet interesting.
It was a very nice evening but the service was very slow in comparison to when we usually attend this place.
Good food, quick service, pleasant staff & a reasonable price what more could you ask for?
Duck with fries was good even though fries were really too skinny for me.
Amazing cocktails !!!
We started going to Gazette in Battersea when it first opened and we lived nearby. Now we live in Roehampton and we have Gazette in Putney nearby for excellent and authentic French cuisine and wine at reasonable prices.
Great French seasonal Menu. We had a three course meal , very good value for money.
Enjoyed great meal and wine here as a family meal. Attentive service and great food, made it memorable and a fun evening.
I always choose the Gazette when meeting friends or colleagues for my lunch hour as the staff at Putney are keen to ensure we are served with drinks and a meal in a perfect manner. My friends are always delighted that we have managed to have a lovely lunch, a glass or two of wine, caught up with chat and I am always delighted you have managed to achieve this for me within my lunch hour. THANK YOU so very much.
