GAZETTE was originally born in Battersea in 2007 and had a gentle expansion with the opening of the Balham and Putney branches. GAZETTE is described by owners Pascal Even and Walter Lecocq as a rural style of French brasserie, one you’d find in Provincial areas of France.
Both want it to reflect the spirit of local French cafés and offer a cuisine that is simple, generous and vivacious, with lots of daily specials and on-going food events, and where transpires the warmth and cordiality of true French cuisine.
East Putney tube station is 5 minutes walk from the restaurant (turn left when you exit the station).

The duck was over cooked and almost inedible. I was even asked how I wanted it and said pink which was acknowledged. The chickpeas that came with the swordfish were undercooked but the swordfish was good.
A shame as the Battersea offering is so so good
Delicious and authentic French food, awesome wine list and good selection of French cheeses. Service is hit and miss though: waitress turned her nose up at our 10% tip... as if that wasn’t enough?!
The staff are very nice but this restaurant always appears to be under-staffed!
This is our favourite local restaurant - the food is good, but it is the wonderful service that makes it stand out. My little girl wanted to have her birthday meal here and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, patient and friendly....particularly as two family member pitched up at the last minute meaning the kids took over their bus table with cake and birthday lego. Thank you for a great evening. The kids also love the tables and chalk which gives us a chance to talk and drink wine. If you manage to get there without children, the martinis are superb.
Great night, food and service! Would recommend to all
Nice meal for an evening out with the family. Thanks!
Excellent food always. Very authentic simple yet interesting.
It was a very nice evening but the service was very slow in comparison to when we usually attend this place.
Good food, quick service, pleasant staff & a reasonable price what more could you ask for?
Duck with fries was good even though fries were really too skinny for me.
Amazing cocktails !!!
We started going to Gazette in Battersea when it first opened and we lived nearby. Now we live in Roehampton and we have Gazette in Putney nearby for excellent and authentic French cuisine and wine at reasonable prices.
Great French seasonal Menu. We had a three course meal , very good value for money.
Enjoyed great meal and wine here as a family meal. Attentive service and great food, made it memorable and a fun evening.
I always choose the Gazette when meeting friends or colleagues for my lunch hour as the staff at Putney are keen to ensure we are served with drinks and a meal in a perfect manner. My friends are always delighted that we have managed to have a lovely lunch, a glass or two of wine, caught up with chat and I am always delighted you have managed to achieve this for me within my lunch hour. THANK YOU so very much.
I had not been to Gazette Putney for ages (after a terrible experience a few years ago), so this was a long awaited return visit. It was OK - my starter tasted good but was horribly overcooked, and the scallop special I had for my main course was nice. We just had wine by the glass - of which there was a reasonable selection - and we chose not to have desert. Overall, I'd give it an 'average' - they could do so much better, particularly given an excellent location and a lovely layout.
Rather a disappointing experience. The lunch menu was fairly limited and portions small. Putney needs more upscale restaurants which provide more interesting, memorable meals.
Generally a really nice place to go for casual dining, the only complaint I have is that the steak is a bit chewy. Otherwise all the other food very good.
We visited on Sunday evening and were disappointed with the visit. We both choose the crab cakes as a starter but they were very dry, tasteless and we were unsure how much crab was actually used. Upon finishing our mains we were asked if we wanted the dessert menu, we said that we did but we never received it and were completely forgotten about from that point on. From what we saw around us it may just been a bad night for the restaurant as other tables had issues also however overall it was a very disappointing experience and I would not be hurrying back
We love Gazette. The ambience is lovely for a dinner with friends. There is a buzz without the restaurant being noisy . The menu is full of interesting meals the latest being a cassoulet of vegetables. I work abroad 10 months at a time and visit Gazette every time I am home. It has become an annual calendar event. Don’t ever remove French Onion soup...please. Wonderful place. Thank you.
Another fantastic meal, as always. Great service, nice setting and really good food.
It was a miserable night weather wise and the restaurant provided a lovely warm atmosphere. Whilst the food is rich, it was all absolutely delicious. Perfect French cuisine. Service was fantastic. The staff were very patient with us as we had trouble ordering. There was too many dishes that we wanted to have. An enjoyable evening. Will definitely be returning.
Good food, good atmosphere, nice staff, excellent location.
We were made very welcome by the staff and the food was good as it always is.
Convenient location close to the rail station on upper richmond road. Staff were friendly, efficient and fun during the course of the evening. The restaurant has a good layout and is comfortable. I was disappointed in the food though. I had a salad starter that was unattractive to look at and just tasted ok. I ordered the pork belly as a main, which again was ok, but wasn’t great. My date had the duck which she enjoyed. Won’t visit again, food a let down at the prices.
Food was ok, portions were very small. I had the duck which was nice but the sauce was too sweet. Service was good
We've been to Gazette a few times in the last couple of years, the food is always a little on the small side but it was always a good experience.
Sadly on this night a couple of the staff were very abrupt and not very friendly, we had to ask a couple of times for our sides and had to wait a while to be able to speak/call a waiter.
Considering it was a Wednesday night and they were not that busy I was dissapointed at the level of service.
The food was ok - my husband ordered pork belly with was mostly fat, my steak was a little charred on the outside and the bone marrow (takes 20 minutes) was mostly butter.
My daughter had just moved into the neighbourhood and, after a day of furniture arrivals and general chaos, we decided to go out for dinner together. We found Gazette through Tripadvisor (always reliable) and booked a table. It was a stiflingly hot evening, so we opted for a table near the front windows (no air conditioning in this restaurant) and although it was noisy with buses outside, as the external windows were open, we didn’t find it too intrusive. The blackboard table with coloured chalks (although, I expect, to keep children amused) was a hoot! Lovely food and nice cocktails, both reasonably priced, and delightful service. What more could one ask (apart from air conditioning!) on a summer’s evening?
The food is consistently good and I like the fact that it is seasonal. The staff are always friendly and efficient and the decor is pleasant.
Booked on the day for my girlfriend and I. Had the steak tartare followed by chateaubriand and it did not disappoint! Great food, great service, will definitely be going back
A special meal to celebrate my cousins 80th was ruined by overzealous waiting staff, being charged for a bottle of wine we never had and 15% service charge without my consent. The bill was adjusted for the service charge and wine but the discussion was severely embarrassing for both me and my guest. Never again
Very good food. Service was a bit slow but we weren't in any rush so it was fine. Great location, easy to find and great value for money. Would definitely reccomend and would come again!
Lovely French restaurant with excellent service (this sets it apart). I have been here twice now and enjoyed both the food and service on both occasions.
The food was fabulous, cocktails and wine. Will definitely bring other friends here. Thank you for a great evening...see you soon!
Excellent food and friendly staff, we had a wonderful time!
We both had the prix fixe lunch menu, with half a bottle of house white. Delicious food at a great price, friendly service and very nice atmosphere (weekday lunchtime). Will come back.
A great French restaurant that's good value for money with a great atmosphere
The place is nice and cosy and food was awesome. Stuff was helpful and friendly. Many thanks.
We took a couple of specials of the week and a pair of brunches. The black risotto was fantastic, and I'd hope it get incorporated to the menu!
Lovely French food in a friendly and attractive atmosphere.
Informal and reasonably friendly, this restaurant serves good food. There the French-ness ends. They have canned music, and nowhere to escape it, and overall try maybe a little too hard to be 'funky'. No prix fixe menu, and the menu itself is quite hard to follow if you want to eat a proper meal. But I'd go back.
