GB1 Seafood Restaurant & Bar

The seafood was very good - although was only just hot enough by the time it was served.
Being allergic to seafood I had a mushroom starter ( very bland and not plated well) and chicken main course (disappointing). It would be good if there was more choice of non seafood dishes and vegetarian dishes to choose from.
I went for dinner with my elderly mother, we were treated so well, nothing was too much trouble. Loved the atmosphere and the food was divine. Can't wait to go back!
we enjoyed our evening at the Grand Hotel and GB1. however, several of our food choices were unavailable in the restaurant. All in all we had s pleasant evening with good food and wine in nice surroundings.
Sunday lunch on my husband's birthday - a lovely meal.
We were told at the restaurant they had not been informed by Opentable about the reservation causing embarrassment- fortunately I had an email on my phone. We were given a very poor table in the restaurant and the service was appalling.
Excellent place for a lovely romantic evening . Service outstanding
A pleasant surprise, as we were expecting the restaurant to be a bit on the stuffy side and in fact it really was not like that at all. The staff were very well training, seemed genuinely intent on ensuring we had a good meal and they were knowledgeable about the food, what was good and what was less good to eat. The ambience was not brilliant when we got there at 7 but by the time we left at 9 it was really quite busy so we were clearly there a bit early. It is very much a smart affair and that in itself is quite nice as you don't get lots of people dropping in on a day trip to Brighton. Worth going
Not many other diners so not much atmosphere. Staff pleasant, seafood overpriced but tasty Lobster Thermidor and chips £45 per head (small). That's without oyster starters.
Having eaten all round the world in seafood restaurants I would not rush back having said that if your staying in the hotel it's easy to dine there a stroll from the lovely bar.
Great meal would recommend!!
From the most attentive and welcoming meeting to excellent service through out the meal without being instrusive . The food was served in a timely manner between courses .
The food was excellent especially the starters we had... exquiste ...and with perfect serving sizes .
The setting within the Grand was fantastic with beautiful views of the sea and shore .
I can recommend this for any event from formal business meeting to family gatherings .
The price higher than most local restaurants but when you take in the quality of food .service and environment it is the cost you are happy to pay .
My partner and I have travelled from Budapest that morning so what with travel to the airport the flight and then onward to Brighton we had been travelling for 9 hours that day . Still we had our table booked for the evening on the recommendation of friends who live nearby in Seaford.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome , as though we were longstanding regulars and old friends. The waitress introduced herself , organised our drinks and then give us plenty of time to select our meals. The service was exceptional as was the food , both our starters and main courses were without fault , cooked to absolute perfection and delivered to the table at exactly the right temperature .It was a special evening for me and my partner and our visit to GB1 made it even more so . We are planning our next visit already and GB1 is most definitely on our menu.
Wonderful place for a special night out. Located in the Grand Hotel, it is exactly that! The view is spectacular, the food exquisite and the service amazing. We will be back!
I dined at GB1 with my girlfriend while on a weekend get away to Brighton that was largely filled with eating and drinking! We dined at 8pm on Sat evening and were impressed at the elegant venue and atmosphere, the exquisite food which proved to be great value for money, and the menu choice.... although advertised as a seafood restaurant there were great options available. We had starters, main courses, a bottle of wine and shared a dessert all for around £100... all in all I'd defo recommended this venue to anyone!!
very warm welcome by the lady on the desk, the food was excellent and good value we had the Crab starter and Sea bass, the only down side for us was that it was rather noisy in the area that we were seated which was outside in the bar. I did ask if it was possible to be moved into the seating area by the window but unfortuantley all tables were pre booked. this would not stop us going again but would request a better seat in advance.
We have been to this restaurant several times now and have never been disappointed. As this was a birthday celebration, we started with cocktails in the bar first. For a mid week evening the atmosphere was surprisingly buzzy. The food and the service were excellent and as a non fish eater in a fish restaurant, there was plenty enough choice for me, with a good selection of wines to match. This is a great venue if you are celebrating a special occasion. We will definitely be back.
So one of us had the scallops and the other the King Prawns in garlic butter to start, both delicious (but I must remember those darn prawns needs peeling!). My husband had sea bass and I bravely opted for the lobster burger. My husband loved his and the creamed spinach accompaniment lovely, I enjoyed the lobster burger when I took it out of the bun (my own funny ways) and again it was very tasty.
Polished it off with a bottle of prosecco and a treat of a 'dirty' (chambourd) margarita cocktail. that will do nicely!
Room was ok although not all refurbished. Bath chipped plug broken radio broken no a/c and view not great. Food was lovely as we're staff but service needed a little professionalism. Leaning over customers to serve is an elementry mistake. Staff very attentive.
Very good fish menu which is why I booked this restaurant. The service was very good. The ambience was pleasant and we sat looking out to sea over a candlelit dinner which was very romantic. The champagne and wine list was extensive however, the beer menu was limited to darker beers and ales and my husband was unable to choose a lager to drink. The menu was also slightly confusing as with the platters it did not indicate if they were for sharing or how big the portions were.
The glorious grandeur of the Victorian Grand Hotel has brought a new twist. A clever move to open a quality seafood restaurant but they still had to succeed. The welcome was very friendly and our food was beautifully cooked and presented.
The service was attentive but not intrusive with the knowledge of the, largely local, produce making the experience an education as well as a culinary joy. We were even encouraged to try Brighton Gin!
The service and the quality at GBI were second to none, from the moment one entered the restaurant , one was greeted cordially , and shown to the table, ours was overlooking the sea in Brighton.
The waiters introduced themselves and were extremely amicable and unobtrusive. The food was excellent and tables were cleared at the correct time and food brought timeously. The whole experience was one to treasure and if you can get in to this beautiful fish restaurant and obtain a window by the sea, do so; The waiters explained the different dishes and the wine was brought over- the Chablis and one tasted it first before it was poured out.
Everything about the experience was one to relish and it was probably the best restaurant in which I had ever eaten. The bill came to about £165 for two inclusive of half a bottle of wine for £29 . We ate the Lobster thermidor which was extremely tasty.
Treat yourselves if you are going to Brighton, it is an experience to be relished.
Please note there is a 2 hour window for your table, therefore the best time to book is probably about 8pm as the restaurant closes at 10pm. Please dress smartly as this is the best restaurant in town and has the best position on the sea front at the Grand Hotel.
First class food & service by the waiters couldn't fault anything
We booked GB1 for out first wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint. The oysters were gorgeous, our main dishes were spot on and the staff were attentive and even wrote ' happy anniversary' on our shared pudding plate. We also love going to The Grand Bar before for a few cocktails as its luxurious and 'Grand'! Would recommend.
Fantastic service by all staff,,,,food amazing ,,,,,,the chefs know how to cook and prepare the food all round......5 star .....
The food is always excellent, very fresh seafood and fish perfectly cooked. There hot cockles are the best
Lovely setting with amazing food at great prices.
Really enjoyed everything about this meal, its was great, good wine and selection of special beers. Great service and good knowledge lots of specials on the night and then in to the cocktail lounge super night with the husband.
GB1 is living proof that bizarre fusions, improbable combinations of ingredients and gastronomic gimmicks are not necessary for an excellent dining experience. First rate raw materials, faultless preparation and presentation, helpful and informed service, and a relaxed but tasteful setting are what characterise this restaurant.
AT GB1, the room speaks with a carefree elegance, the staff speak with courtesy and knowledge and the food speaks for itself.
I dined with the boss's wife last friday and although she is not that keen on fish she loved it and had fish after all. The food was truly lovely and fresh. The service is exceptional
I had the special of the day - a whole grilled seabass. It was great! The starter (fish soup) was also really nice. Service was very good. And ambience is lovely with sea views. Highly recommended.
Our waiter micheal made it so special for us. Excellant friendly service. Our favourite restuarant
Great food & service.
We had a delicious meal on a Tuesday evening. The service was very good and the wine recommendation spot on.
I took my wife to this restaurant for her birthday . Reserved table was excellent with great views. Reception and table service outstanding. Food tremendous and good value for such a prestigious location. My only gripe was the price of the wine which tasted no different to a Pinot Grigio from any supermarket at about £7.50
Really lovely restaurant with a good lunch menu, not tried dinner yet but definitely will. Good service and had a great table in the window.
Service terribly slow
Went to GB1 for my fiancée's birthday and had a very nice evening. The service was excellent, attentive but not overbearing, quick but not rushed.
The food was exceptional as well. My fiancée had one of the specials of halibut with prawns which was full of flavour if a little small on the portion front. I had the king prawns platter with a selection of shell fish. It looks a lot but once you remove all the shells is actually a very manageable portion and the fish it self was very fresh and tasted of the sea.
I recommend it highly and will definitely be going back in the near future.
All of the food in GB1 was very delicious and, and elegant, kind and friendly services from the staffs made taste of the food become special for me, too. Thank you very much!!
Anther visit to Kensington Place. The fish continues to impress and the service is friendly and capable. The set menus are great value too. If you are in the area and feel like a lively restaurant for a good bit of fish look no further.
The restaurant has a nice relaxed feel to it, smart without being formal. The food was extremely good and we thoroughly enjoyed the dishes that we ordered.
The service and ambience was terrific. We sat at the bar and subsequently served by the barman. The main course was supposed to be brought out on the 'command' of the barman - unfortunately this didn't happen and came out ahead of time. Subsequently it was sent back and then apparently sat under the hot plate for a further 20 minutes. As a result, the prawns, fish and fillet steak were all dry. You could see that the produce was of high quality and the staff did their best to apologise by offering 'fresh meals' to which we declined. An unfortunate end to an otherwise wonderful evening.
Important to say though, I would still go back.
