George V at Ashford Castle
Dine Like Royalty. Ashford Castle has been hosting distinguished guests for almost 800 years – one of the most prominent being the Prince of Wales, who subsequently became George V of England. In honour of his visit in 1906, the Guinness family built a special dining room which still bears his name proudly to this day.
The graceful setting, with rich, panelled walls and twinkling Waterford Crystal chandeliers bestows a grand sense of occasion. Our resident pianist plays softly in the background while you relax and enjoy exceptional dishes from the kitchen of acclaimed Chef Philippe Farineau, combined with much loved recipes of Beatrice Tollman and complemented by a fine selection of wines from Chief Sommelier, Robert Bowe.
Very nice time ! Food was good , service was excellent.
Staff very helpful and always very pleasant and attentive.
Overall impression was very receptive and most enjoyable
The renovation works carried out in the last 5-6 years were fully justified and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful.
The owners should be very proud of their achievements and the inpact to the area.
An amazing experience, incredible food and service. All in a truly memorable setting
Ich hatte ein 8 Gänge Menu mit korrespondierenden Weinen-Der Wein hat sehr gut harmoniert und das Essen war geschmacklich und qualitativ hochwertig. Der Service inklusive Sommelier waren perfekt abgestimmt!
We had a wonderful evening. We ordered the Chateaubriand for two and it was delicious and it was reasonable priced $$$.
Men are suggested to wear a jacket. The decorations make us feel dining in a royal castle. The dishes are great and the staff are nice.
Experience of a lifetime
Booked a dinner date at George V at Ashford Castle for my wife and I’s honeymoon. We are staying here at the castle and glad we did. Men do have to wear a jacket but it sets the ambiance and tone for an exceptional dinner. The staff, waiters and host were all so nice and welcoming. My wife and I had cocktails which were both perfect. My wife’s cocktail had a great presentation as I don’t recall the name but was a smoked lemonade cocktail which was brilliant. If you do have dinner here, I would highly recommend the steak for 2 as it was simply the best steak dinner I have ever tasted! You can’t go wrong at George the V at Ashford Castle for an elegant dinner.
A most amazing experience everyone should do at least once but more is preferable !
The Red Carnation chain have got hospitality down to a fine art ( we stayed at the Rubens s previous time ) driving up to the property the scenery is amazing and impressive. Met at the grand entrance and valet parking. From the time we entered into the breathtaking immaculately preserved dining room the service was impeccable . What one would expect of a fine dining restaurant , food ambience attentive service without fault . The after dinner drinks in the lounge , with entertainment was a bonus . Soft Irish songs with singer and Pianist
Even the kind concierge who got our car keys was unflabble when a very rude drunk woman was demanding and rude at midnight .
Top marks we will be back .
From when I entered the restaurant till we finished it was an absolutely brilliant could not fault anything or anyone everyone was lovely food georgious service brilliant
Awesome experience and we enjoyed the whole time we were there. The grounds the food the people.
The food was amazing and the setting is lovely. The service team was off their game when we went for dinner. I will give this a second chance, but I think it's fair to call out.
As an example, our waiter literally said "sorry but we have an important table to attend to"
You don't say that to anyone at a restaurant of this caliber, and all should feel well taken care of.
I do feel this is fixable, so please keep this in mind, as I'm not one to write negative reviews.
Our experience was incredible! The food was excellent and the service was unparalleled.
Sorry. Service in particular was not good enough.
Food was ok but not at a level you would expect.
An everlasting unforgettable evening! Can’t be beaten. Thank you so much!
An absolutely terrific experience
We met the Director of Operations on arrival at the Restaurant and he was amazing .
The welcome was first class and the experience throughout was first class .
Absolutely the best of everything
Absolutely wonderful meal with excellent service! Truly a treat.
Amazing on every level. Wish I could dine like that everyday. Thanks for a great dinner and amazing stay
This was one of the finest dining experiences we have experienced in many years of world travel.
Everything you would expect from a 5 star restaurant within a heritage castle. Excellent service gorgeous decor and decent portions for a fine dining restaurant.
80th birthday meal. . . Superb
Service and food was amazing
I was very interested in the tasting menu and as a non-dairy person who follows vegetarian diet, with occasional fish, I didn't think I'd get the option. The chef designed one especially and it was absolutely superb. What they did with vegetables was beyond super. I already recommended it and would like to extend my thanks and full compliments to the chef who designed and ensured the delivery of the super menu, super experience, Fidelma
My best friend and I travelled to Ireland from Washington state. We had the privilege to dine at George V and it was amazing!!
We had a lovely dinner in George V. Service was excellent and the food was outstanding. The smoked salmon appetizer was, I believe, one of the best I have had.
I also had a fillet of cod which was wonderful and very fresh.
My dining companion had the gnocchi which were fabulous.
Desserts were amazing.
We will certainly return and I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.
Superb experience...beautiful presentations, varied nuances of flavors, textures, etc. Very helpful with the wine selections. My only disappointment was that our server, Rhoda I believe, was not particularly warm in her manner and not very descriptive in her presentations when I asked questions. I truly wish we had had an Irish-native server...not being from Ireland, that is part of the charm. Just missed the warmth and sincere desire to help/please that the native Irish people give.
Very good restaurant can compete with the best in European cities.
Locally sourced organic food. Beautiful ambiance in the Ashford Castle in Cong, Ireland. We had a five course meal with a selection from each course. Wine selection and sommelier outstanding. There is a variety of wines from all regions. Flawless service.
This is a great restaurant within the Ashford Castle Hotel. Food was amazing and can't wait for a return trip.
Exquisite surroundings topped off by top class table service. Would definitely recommend George V for dining. Food is splendid and the staff make you feel comfortable and are very helpful. There is one waiter, i think Bing is his name and he really makes you feel welcome and at home and is really helpful and obliging. The variety of food and drink on the menu are sure to meet all tastes.
Everything was exceptional. Beautiful setting, food was excellent and the service was impeccable.
An unforgettable dining experience. It's pricey but worth every penny for the fantastic service and delicious food all set in an amazing dining room. I will definitely be returning again.
Absolutely fantastic place and impeccable and attentive service.
Excellent food, amazing service. We had the pigeon starter. It was amazing. The fine detail made it extra special. My favorite restaurant in the whole world.
We've dined at Ashford several times and couldn't say enough about the amazing experience it is. Ashford will always be a special place for us. Always impeccable!
The food and service were excellent. The prices, especially for wine, are on the high side.
This was an amazing dinner. Everything was perfect!
It was a wonderful restaurant to dine in. The quality is equivalent to any Michelin Stars restaurant.
Fabulous dinner and service in the George Restaurant on Saturday evening. First class service. Followed by lovely entertainment from Annette and Brendan. Michael ad Carmel Burke
