German Gymnasium Grand Cafe
Also offering two bar areas on a first come first serve basis.
Food was nothing special. No particular ambience on main floor. Maybe better upstairs? Service was lovely however. Feels like the restaurant does not mind if people don’t return as others are queuing out the door.
Such a fabulous place, the service & food were excellent & I can’t wait to go back soon!
Fabulous birthday meal with friends. The food was absolutely amazing - better than usual.
Drinks in the bar was the perfect end to the evening.
Always love it here, great food, great atmosphere, service always good even if they are mega busy. Look forward to my next visit
Wonderful birthday afternoon
I always try to dine here on my trips to London, but it is very hard to get in. I wish they would expand the upstairs to accommodate the same menu as downstairs. It would make it much easier for me when I entertain clients. The food in the cafe is excellent and the beer is the best. It’s always hard to choose between the schnitzel and bratwurst. Get the white asparagus if it’s in season.
Been here lots of times now and always enjoy the experience. Food and service is great, good location and great atmosphere.
The food was amazing and our server was so kind.
The staff were very helpful, checking bags and providing wine recommendations. My meal (Schupfnudel) was the most delicious (the others in our group had chicken and soup), but all were tasty, well-presented and reasonable portion sizes. Tasty cocktails (both alcoholic and non) and wine too.
Had a great breakfast here with my Bavarian friend. We went for the German breakfast and it was spot on.
Everything was just OK. Nothing special as the article touted! The Easter eggs still hanging on the tree were pitiful. No flowers, no beauty!
We were so disappointed with our experience here - we booked for a special occasion, 7 of us, having heard great things about the place.
The waiter was sweet but the service was poor; only half our starters arrived initially, we had to wave to get his attention for anything during the meal, perhaps he was new or covering a larger area than usual?
The food was average which was disappointing, particularly in light of the cost. I don’t know if our poor experience was due to it being a bank holiday, perhaps the usual staffing levels weren’t present?
The beautiful building and decor was the only aspect of our visit to wow us unfortunately.
Loved the feel of the place, however food needs a bit of German supervision, too fried and oiliness for some of the mains dishes.
We had a lovely time for my partner’s birthday. Great service, very nice food and a lovely birthday surprise for him. Thank you!
Great value food, sat on terrace which was lovely. Staff v helpful.
I went to the Gymnasium purely out of nostalgia and it did not disappoint. The food is an excellent representation of German cuisine und der Linsen Suppe besondres lekke, very tasty indeed.
Great venue, great food and good service. Just don't get a table near the waiter station by the bar as the team are unable to stack dirty plates and cutlery without making a racket.
Fantastic food in a great setting. The service was great too.
Very nice setting and good service
Lovely host — no rush to turn the table and delicious food!
German Gymnasium provides a great setting for a family meal, couples meal or drinks. The food on the menu is what you would expect - tasty German cuisine. The staff could do with being a little more attentive, but all in all we enjoyed ourselves and would recommend it.
Went there for brunch before getting our train and so were on a schedule. Service was good although my order was incorrect. The brunch menu is varied and had some vegetarian options. Eggs florentine was to a high standard. Fresh orange juice never fails to deliver and service was brisk. All in all, we were in and out in just over an hour so all good.
Service from some staff a little frosty, verging on snooty, but beer and food are authentic. Pity there’s so little German wine on the list, and what there is is overpriced.
The food was alright, however the service was one of the best we came across thanks to a lovely Polish waitress, who really tried to accomodate us with everything, which is something that you don’t find often in hospitality anymore, even in the best places.
Not as fab as I had hoped but still a great meeting place and the food is good.
Outstanding as always. Fab vibe. Great bar. Sensational Schnitzel - good value for the sort of restaurant. Amazing servers and service.
Lovely atmosphere, buzzy but not too loud. Went with friends. Wine list interesting, not seen so many Eastern European wines on offer. I hadn’t been before and wasn’t quite sure what to expect so was delighted by it.
Service was good if anything a little overly attentive. At the end of the meal I asked the waiter if the management took a share of the service charge and was told yes. When I asked to do what I normally do - not pay the service on my card but leave it on the table - the waiter asked me not to as it would be likely to get him reprimanded for poor service.
Fabulous in every way! X
Really enjoyable evening, fantastic atmosphere, and delicious deserts!
I had booked this several weeks ago for an important business meeting for 4. I asked for a special table and something unique , my 4 turned into 5 and I was then moved to a terrible table, they were not accommodating and were fine with me leaving and taking my business elsewhere. . Even worse. When I wanted to see what my table of 4 was going to look like it was a basic table. Why would i waste my time requesting a special table only to not be given it.
The quality of the bread needs improving , very dry
Desserts enjoyable! Texture and consistency correct to what was been served .
Great attentive and appropriate level of service
I love this restaurant, would highly recommend it for good food and good service and great ambience
Fabulous food, service and setting
We've been on the Ground floor and it was EXTREMELY noisy and busy.... people were constantly passing by our table.
The food and drinks though were amazing!!!
Top germanic brunch action. If you love meat, eggs and cream then get your face into this place immediately. Also, the ice cream to finish was whip sharp and wild. Fine work Germany, all is forgiven.
The one thing that did spoil the evening was one of your customers sitting by the bar love the sound of his own laughter.
When it came to our turn to eat we were offered a table near the bar which we refused, eventually were given a table near the front door but we could still hear him. We couldn’t understand why your staff couldn’t have a quiet word with him to keep it down I’m sure we were not the only people really fed up of hearing him.
I do like this place however it is very busy and quite noisy. The food whilst lovely is overpriced. £24 for Schnitzel and sauce and chips are extra at £5. So £30 for a main with no veg....
That said high quality and tasty food.
