Outstanding as always. Fab vibe. Great bar. Sensational Schnitzel - good value for the sort of restaurant. Amazing servers and service.
Lovely atmosphere, buzzy but not too loud. Went with friends. Wine list interesting, not seen so many Eastern European wines on offer. I hadn’t been before and wasn’t quite sure what to expect so was delighted by it.
Service was good if anything a little overly attentive. At the end of the meal I asked the waiter if the management took a share of the service charge and was told yes. When I asked to do what I normally do - not pay the service on my card but leave it on the table - the waiter asked me not to as it would be likely to get him reprimanded for poor service.
Fabulous in every way! X
Really enjoyable evening, fantastic atmosphere, and delicious deserts!
I had booked this several weeks ago for an important business meeting for 4. I asked for a special table and something unique , my 4 turned into 5 and I was then moved to a terrible table, they were not accommodating and were fine with me leaving and taking my business elsewhere. . Even worse. When I wanted to see what my table of 4 was going to look like it was a basic table. Why would i waste my time requesting a special table only to not be given it.
The quality of the bread needs improving , very dry
Desserts enjoyable! Texture and consistency correct to what was been served .
Great attentive and appropriate level of service
I love this restaurant, would highly recommend it for good food and good service and great ambience
Fabulous food, service and setting
We've been on the Ground floor and it was EXTREMELY noisy and busy.... people were constantly passing by our table.
The food and drinks though were amazing!!!
Top germanic brunch action. If you love meat, eggs and cream then get your face into this place immediately. Also, the ice cream to finish was whip sharp and wild. Fine work Germany, all is forgiven.
The one thing that did spoil the evening was one of your customers sitting by the bar love the sound of his own laughter.
When it came to our turn to eat we were offered a table near the bar which we refused, eventually were given a table near the front door but we could still hear him. We couldn’t understand why your staff couldn’t have a quiet word with him to keep it down I’m sure we were not the only people really fed up of hearing him.
I do like this place however it is very busy and quite noisy. The food whilst lovely is overpriced. £24 for Schnitzel and sauce and chips are extra at £5. So £30 for a main with no veg....
That said high quality and tasty food.
Kept waiting for 15 minutes. Mains arrived but aides took a while.
i have booked via open table, received a confirmation email, they called me 2 days before to confirm and still when I arrived they said they did not get my booking and that opentable did a mistake and the lady at the reception was very rude and not polite! will never go back again. Please make sure your staff is nice to client!!!!
Great spot for four uni friends to reunite. The mock tails in dry jan were ace and food delicious.
Great Breakfast. Great twist on usual breakfast. Fab setting.
The veal was v tough and had to leave it
The waitress asked if all was ok and explained
We got a free coffee but had to pay c £50 for the bad veal
My client was not impressed
I am half German and the food is legit. Service was super friendly and attentive. I will return.
Great food and atmosphere
Good quality and excellent service. The venue is outstanding. The portions were a bit tiny but overall it was a nice experience.
Good food but small portions and over priced
Lunch was brilliant, everything I needed to meet a client in the area.
Beautiful ambience, great food. Attentive service and a lovely surprise at the end for my birthday!!
Good food and service
Lovely place, with good food and service
Period building provides nice ambiance. We got there for a late lunch one day after Christmas. Maybe they were short staffed, however service was slow and brusque.
Food was ok, not worth the price. Burger we ordered, even though they took into account the allergy requirementsq, when it arrived had no sauce. As they thought sauce may have allergens, but would have been good to mention that before taking order so it could be changed. In essence it was a dry patty between burger buns ( admittedly the diner asked to remove onions and bacon form burger). Steak was ok, you can get better at many other London steak houses at similar price. Prawns were fine, again not worth the price.
They need to improve food quality at least. The dismissive service could be a consequence of Christmas staffing ( hopefully a one off).
Xmas day absolutely no atmosphere had to ask them to change the music. Very patronising manager. Goose was good rest of the meal very average.
Overall I enjoyed the experience. The staff were very polite ,welcoming and attentive.
My codling guojons were rather over cooked but the chips were lovely.
The restaurant is very convenient for Kings Cross Station.
Would go there again.
good place lovely menu the food was really good. I had a vegetarian mushroom knocci dish. The service was very good and accommodating
I booked at table for 6 people at 7pm and we got the best table in the house right in the middle of the Grand Cafe. We had a lovely, helpful waiter who was with us all evening making sure we were happy and our drinks topped up! Despite being told we only had the table for 2.5 hours we were not rushed at all. In fact we were lucky and were able to see stay at our table till 11pm. The food and cocktails were all top notch and it came to £60 per person which we all thought was excellent value for such a special night out. Will definitely return soon.
Great food with great service.
Fun place to get a yummy and different kind of food. Staff very friendly and location is fantastic!
I have been to GG a few times on dates, seated up stairs with great service. However on this occasion I brought my mother and new boyfriend where we were giving what seemed to be a last minute throw together table next to the stairs on the ground floor.
Whilst waiting for our table the receptionist suggested for us to grab a drink at the bar. This quite frankly was a joke, people are seated around the whole bar and you have to order inbetween couples interupting their conversations. Not only that but I was rudely asked to move around the other side of the bar to be served.
Food was fine... when it arrived. we waited over an hour they forgot to put our order through, then to compensate brought us two thin slices of stollen between three at the end.
I first discovered German Gymnasium last year, and loved my dinner in the upstairs restaurant. I wanted to try the grand cafe, as it is a bit more casual. We were sat quite close to the door, and it was quite cold everytime the door opened, so in winter ask for a table at the far end! The food was lovely, although to be honest, I prefer the upstairs menu and think it’s woryh the tiny bit mor ether charge.
Service was attentive, and we were not rushed out when we had paid, and could finish our drinks in peace whilst waiting for trains, etc.
A great place for w catch up with friends. It’s a great location with the service excellent. The food is also great.
Service was beyond slow and food was disappointing- what a missed opportunity for such an amazing venue - truly stunning
I always love the Christmas nutcracker
theme at this time of year. Was there for breakfast and the German power breakfast had meatloaf, rosti and sauerkraut making it the perfect fuel for the day. Although it came looking like a big Mac, the combination blended perfectly with the mild mustard. Fresh orange juice was sweet and service was attentive. This is my go to place when travelling from Kings Cross and I get there deliberately early to ensure I have time to visit the German Gymnasium.
