Busy atmosphere did not like the table we were placed at .Service very friendly very good. Food ok but Veal very chewy.probably would not go back
I love this place, great food and great service. Only thing I would improve is the staff chasing you to pay the bill and get out of there.
Wonderful setting, charming staff, bustling and efficient. Small but adequate menu with a much, much larger choice of wines - with good recommendations from the waiting staff for wine we would never have tried otherwise. Beer choice surprisingly limited, but didn't spoil our enjoyment.
Hearty cooking from middle-ish Europe, was good and as expected. Great if you have hungry teenagers in tow....super bread, potatoes and spatzle to compliment a meaty feast.
Everyone left happy and satisfied....what more do you need?
Great food great environment
Good services and better drinks. The food is not bad.
Amaizng service and food hits the spot. Excellent experience for anniversary.
Great location and interior, really fine and nice food, food value for set menu, helpful staffs who understand the importance of giving customers space. Will defiantly go back!
Beautiful restaurant in a great location, we dined upstairs which was a little quiet, downstairs feel livelier. Menu slightly average but would go again.
Amazing food as always
We had a table upstairs on a Tuesday evening for a girls’ dinner. Fabulous venue, light and airy upstairs with some really stylish touches. Service started out well and then became really slow - we felt a bit ignored and had to keep asking for menus, wine, water, and had to chase up our meals with two different waiters before it eventually came. That put a bit of a dampener on an otherwise good evening.
We had the fixed menu which was probably the best value fixed menu I have had. The service was perfect with a smile and we enjoyed trying everything German from the drinks menu - beer, sparkling wine and red all well recommended by the sommelier . Our lunch did spill out into the evening which was nicely rounded off at a table at the bar .
Just love the food - wished I'd been told earlier that there was a kid's menu!
Very good food with a menu that is not common in London. Very good and attentive service. A bit noisy. I was surprised that even though the restaurant was only half full, all the occupied tables were in one section with everyone next to everyone else when there were large sections with empty tables. It would have been more comfortable for occupied tables to be spread about a bit more.
Great fun, great service and awesome atmosphere - great for an after work dinner or something more family/date-night orientated.
Service upstairs was decent, food was nice enough
Too hot (outside) and this impacted the restaurant temperature - otherwise great
Love this place! Been going since it opened. For this particular occassion, we were late being seated but staff were attentive, super friendly, and offered a free glass of German bubbles to apologise.
Great space, food and value but would flag the service is awful. Had to ask several times to be able to order food (rather than just the drinks being offered) and waited so long for dessert just gave up in the end.
Having dined on previous occasions I choose to take a friend at short notice and was not disappointed !
Being a Friday evening it was naturally busy but this did not take anything away from the excellent service and experience . As usual the staff and service was friendly ,polite and helpful . I had booked the offer of a set menu offer but upon arrival we decided to go with the main menu and were pleased we did!
The food was excellent and the wine excellent .
Will definitely be returning!
Myself and three friends had a great evening at German Gymnasium. The restaurant itself is jaw droppingly stunning. The staff are attentive (but not overly), friendly, relaxed and super efficient. The ambience felt surprisingly intimate given the size of the place, (maybe because we were tucked into a lovely corner booth). Lighting was just at the right level and low noise levels lent themselves to easy chatting.
We were dining late enough to order from the set menu @ £25/£30 for 2/3 courses. Personally I was a bit disappointed with the food - my kohlrabi and grilled peach starter was pretty tasteless I thought, although one of my dining companions thought it was delicious. I was left wishing I'd ordered one of the other two starters on the table, the Black Forest ham with celeriac and the salmon tartare - both pretty good.
Our main courses were all delicious (and extremely filling!) but less interesting than I thought they might be at a restaurant promoting it's menu as something a bit different. Ok, we were ordering from the set menu and the chicken schnitzel and käsekrainer dishes were both delicious - but less interesting than I'd hoped. I couldn't help feeling we could have eaten something just as tasty at a German market at a fraction of the price.
We all went home having had a lovely time and with (very!) full bellies but I was left feeling a little uninspired by the food which is a shame because everything else was spot on.
My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner at German Gymnasium. We had an early dinner and had the set menu. We both had the chicken schnitzel, which was delicious. The staff were efficient and friendly. Would absolutely recommend.
Food was excellent and the setting wonderful! However, I cannot understand why we were seated at a very small table immediately next to a group when there were plenty of tables available and unoccupied that afternoon! And I had requested a quiet table!
We had a lovely relaxing lunch - the food was excellent with excellent service. I'll be back!
Great all round thank uou
Would have been better if the reception staff had been more welcoming. First impressions count!
Excellent all round
Es ist schön eingerichtet. Wir waren zu dritt. War wohl früher mal eine Bahnhofshalle die umgebaut wurde. Jederzeit wieder.
Good, but not as good as a year or so ago, sad.
Great staff, very attentive and friendly. Delicious food and Cahors wine. We were asked to move to a bar table after 2 hours but we offered free desserts and coffee for our collaboration. Overall great experience, we’ll come back.
Great food and service
Lovely cocktails and different selection of food great for meetings and romantic dining
Great building, terrific atmosphere, good food and excellent service
Fantastic meal, great service. My daughter left her coat in the cloakroom and they were kind enough to post it to us.
Great lunch. Staff were very friendly and the food was great
Super service, lovely atmosphere, great location. Gluten free choices.
Great food, good price. Good for a Sunday brunch . Beautiful venue .
Great food and electric atmosphere. A fun place for everyone.
