Great food and service, we had free flowing drinks (champagne or prosecco?) with 3 course meal.
Great atmosphere, cocktails and food!
Great service from start to finish, my wife as a knee problem, she was taken upstairs to the restaurant in a small lift by a lady at reception, we couldnt have wished for better service, the food was good, we can easily recommend the German Gymnasium, we will without a doudt visit again.
Great food and service. Loved the restaurant and the staff were very knowledgeable about the history of the building. Will definitely return.
Valentine’s Day dinner for two was very overpriced. Limited menu of two dishes or vegetarian. There was no attempt made to introduce any atmosphere or set scene for this special day. The food was good but did not match double the price tag of an a la carte meal on any other day.
Our Valentines meal exceeded expectations. Service was first rate - constant replenishing of glasses of tap water; good advice from the sommelier; every course served with a brief explanation and a smile. The meal itself was well presented and the meringue dessert was outstanding. Would happily go back.
The music was too loud - there’s a great atmosphere in that place and it doesn’t need extra loud music on top, which makes the atmosphere worse. I want to talk to the person I’m with, not visit a club and listen to music
Firstly I wasn’t that impressed that we had to wait at the top of the stairs for 5 minutes to check in, we were shown to our table given the menu nobody asked us if we would like water for the table or if we would like to order a drink.
I can’t really give a true review of my main course as I really didn’t like the curry wurst that’s not the fault of the restaurant I just didn’t like it however my chips were undercooked so I didn’t eat much of it since decided to treat myself to carrot cake for pudding only to find it was rather dry!
It's too bold large and brash to be anything more than a usual restaurant. Food was decidedly average and wine very overpriced. Not great or memorable. Won't be going back
Tasty and relatively refined German eatery in an epic location. Bit over priced, but a fine place to while away a few hours. Recommended.
Eaten here a number of times. Service is outstanding, constant attention to detail and friendly and professional. Food was excellent, we had the “butchers plat” to share which was way too much but all good. My son loved the lobster mac’n’cheese.
The overall atmosphere is good, it’s always a buzzy environment.
Only minor downsides were drinks were a little slow and we had a large group who were having drinks prior to dinner next to our table which meant we felt crowded in where we were.
My friend is gluten free and our waitress advised of all food that she could / couldn’t it. She was very friendly and pleasant too. We had the evening standard menu which was roughly the same menu as Christmas but it was fine, I enjoyed the food as much then as I did on this visit.
She also found us a table to have a drink after our meal and this is where the service went from a 5star down to a 3 star - we waited a while for a drinks menu and about 15 minutes to attract the waitresses attention to take our wine order, we paid for the bill at the same time and left shortly after.
A late booking - really quiet with only a few tables busy. We had a lovely peaceful meal in a beautiful building.
We were served a thick piece of schnitzel that was tasteless. The waitress was rude and forgetful.
Service upstairs could be quicker. Otherwise a very nice experience and great food.
Thank you for a fantastic birthday evening. You made it very special. Fantastic service.
Brilliant service from start to finish- special thanks to Hollie who took care of us and even arranged a birthday plate for my friend - lovely afternoon.
Had wanted to go to German Gymnasium for some time. have to say that having been there, am not sure I would go again. Food was OK, We had Benedict starters which were good but main course of Chicken schnitzel was just weird tasting. the Brunch menu is good value and the beer we had was very good. The location is impressive and the staff were generally attentive.
First time at German Gymnasium with a group of friends. We had a great time. The staff were very accommodating and let us order things that weren't on the menu, I.e. chicken instead of schnitzel.
The atmosphere was great. Some were dressed up for the evening and others looked more casual so no pressure on attire.
The upstairs bar is slightly small and when waiting there can get a little Annoying as people pass regularly.
The food tastes great. I had the duck which was cooked beautifully. I tried my friends steak, also done to perfection. Cocktails were delicious. Toilets were a nice backdrop for photos.
We sat upstairs but I would defo try and get a table downstairs next time just for the beauty of it.
Outside across the road is a huge multi-lighted bird cage - stunning.
Staff were funny, smiley, happy and helpful, although the food did take a while to come- an hour.
Overall we had a great time.
Great food in a dramatic and beautiful building. Very friendly and attentive service. They very smoothly moved us to a table st the bar when we’d run out of time at our restaurant table. Would definitely go again.
First visit and it won’t be our last. Great ambience, fantastic service and delicious food. Very impressed.
Food was amazing!
The staff were very friendly and accommodating when I made a mistake with my booking. They didn’t make it a problem they were just helpful.
I think it is a good restaurant overall. Although on the pricey side considering that most of food is not very elaborated (schnitzel, sausages). My girlfriend who is Austrian complained about the schnitzel. She said that the crumbles were seasoned with too many seeds so it tasted almost like a curry.
Service was excellent. Wine list was quite overpriced as usual.
German Gymnasium is just a gorgeous venue with outstanding food. Food is a bit heavy, in the best German tradition, but it taste great and it's put together pretty creatively. Great for an anniversary or a birthday. And for a couple of hours you can get all the bubbles you want adding just around 15 pounds. Highly recommended!
This was my second time at German Gymnasium as I had been for brunch the first time. We ate from the Al a Carte menu which was relatively good value. The ham starter was delicious and as I was dairy free, they even had a special chocolate and strawberry cake for me, which was delicious and a bonus I had not expected. I am so used to just having sorbet or coffee for dessert!
We booked for Christmas dinner as it’s within walking distance of our home and I had been for brunch previously where the food was lovely. The venue felt very Christmassy and they accommodated my celiac diet easily. Good wine recdomendarions too.
It was Christmas Day & we were a long way from home. The ambience, service & quality of food & drink were all first class. It was clear management wanted the staff to make a good impression & they did. Congratulations.
A perfect alternative to our usual at home Christmas lunch, the food was wonderful and the service excellent. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and am already considering booking for next Christmas.
We had a lovely Christmas dinner at the German gymnasium.
Great food and wine with exceptional, non-intrusive service. The F&B team really went the extra mile to accommodate our needs. Good atmosphere and would highly recommend the upstairs restaurant. Very comfortable bar area for pre and/or post dinner drinks. Would recommend the tomahawk steak. Good cocktails too. Great for date night and family/friends get together.
Small things matter. An off the cuff comment about a birthday and they delivered such a pleasant surprise for us! Excellent experience.
Amazing. Good value and great atmosphere
A group of colleagues and I went for Xmas dinner. And it was great. The six of us could both hear each other speak in one big and break into smaller groups; the din of the restaurant was never a problem. The food was superb, everyone was impressed with the ambiance... and the kicker was that we all felt we had gotten our money’s worth when the bill came. I love this place!
Excellent food and service in wonderful building
We had a view from the balcony of the whole restaurant and there was a huge Xmas tree in the middle by the bar so it all looked very festive. The waitress was excellent: very attentive but never got in the way.
Oh come I haven’t got time to write 50 characters I’m dictating thisSo I’m just going to go La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La La
Lovely lunch catching up with old friends. Food was delicious and the weekend deal of unlimited bubbles for an extra £15 worked really well. They kept topping us up without us having to ask. A lovely lunch. Would recommend.
Ottima location a due passi da una nuovissima zona molto trendy il locale e’ molto ampio e particolare simpatica l’atmosfera volutamente tedesca il personale molto gentile e professionale ci torneremo
