Gilbey's Old Amersham
Having successfully created the first Gilbey’s in Eton in 1975, we acquired what was then the celebrated old tea shop (The Willow Tree) in 1989. After extensive alterations on the history-steeped listed building, Gilbey’s was established, boasting a stylish yet intimate restaurant, a stunning first-floor private dining room and an attractive garden.
Our team is dedicated to delivering the very best quality and value to our customers and assure you of a very warm welcome at Gilbey’s Old Amersham.
Gilbey's Lemon Tart
clementine sorbet, raspberry sauce
hand-cut chips, baked hay mayonnaise, chimichurri sauce
Wonderful as always and the staff did a great job of handling the latest Covid restrictions - seamless.
Truly lovely lunch with a friend. Everything about Gilbey’s is perfect. Don’t change a thing!
For years this restaurant has never failed us. Excellent food, wine and service and would highly recommend you try it if you haven't already
Gilbeys has a very pleasing atmosphere and a good choice of menu with some interesting options alongside steady favourites
All was well arranged relating to coronavirus without it diminishing our dining experience
Lovely anniversary meal. We were shown to a lovely outside table, sat and ordered a drink, only to be told we would have to move as the table had already been booked. Two other couples that subsequently came into the garden were offered that lovely table - obviously it hadn’t been booked. Other than that confusion and lack of cleaning (no covid cleaning was done after we were asked to move) it was a great evening.
First time ,visiting from the North
Excellent food and service
We will definitely return
Ambience is delightful. Service is exemplary. Food is tops. Wine is on point. And front of house is a veritable star.
On arrival we were taken to our table and after a short interval we were given the menu's and asked if we would like drinks. It was all very efficient and not rushed. The food was all excellent, without complaint. A very pleasant meal all round. Highly recommended. Will certain plan a return visit.
Early evening table booked for the set menu. We sat outside in the quiet courtyard. Delicious fresh food, well cooked and presented. Service attentive but not intrusive.
Please see private note to restaurant , usually a very pleasant place to eat.
Excellent food and service as always. It is always a pleasure to eat at Gilbeys.
Went for our wedding anniversary and y meal. Staff very friendly, food was excellent and atmosphere was really nice too. Overall really nice meal.
Food and Ambience was very good with excellent service
good choice of Menu and the very tasty food was well served
definitely would recommend Gilbey's to friends
thanks for a great lunch !! definitely will come again
Great lunch menu with an elderly mother. Portions huge so didn’t manage to finish but no facility to take away food for husband ! Supposedly due to health & safety but it wouldn’t have been hard just to give me some foil to put it in...
Lovely meal though ...
Great place to have a meal for a special occasion. Service and knowledge of the waitress was excellent delivered with a bright and cheerful manner.
Food excellent; wine very overpriced which was a downside
Great food and service. Portion size was generous too.
It has been sometime since I have been in Gilbey's but now so glad to have returned - a great experience - will be back soon.
Even better than normal with the new table spacing
Will be back soon
Lovely to be back! Feels like home! Thank you! X
Even though we had booked a table (for our 45th wedding anniversary), there was no recognition that this was a special day for us - even a balloon would have been something!
We are regular visitors to this lovely restaurant. My daughter and I had a really scrumptious dinner, the service as always was excellent even with the Covid restrictions we felt really looked after.
As always the food was great, as was the service. Probably our favourite restaurant in our local area!
Fabulous lunch at Gilbeys. Good service and excellent food and all suitably socially distanced under the current circumstances.
A good lunch in a good atmosphere, service was dis-appointing
Gilbey’s never fails to deliver. Excellent food, (love the mix of flavours), along with great service.
Very decent meal. Would certainly return. Slightly unsure in internal decor. Courtyard area was lovely in this current situation.
The food is honest and delicious. So happy to see our favourite local is back open again.
Good menu choice, different from many other restaurants. Great ambience, Some outside tables. Will be returning.
Had an excellent birthday lunch. Lovely cosy table. Staff were very attentive, but not overly so. Food delicious. Staff have made lots of adjustments to make it Covid safe without taking from the atmosphere. Will be going back.
Enjoyed sitting outside, but not the wasps. The waiters were very good trying smoke and candles to deter the wasps, but it didn’t really work.
The waiters and waitresses were very good, and we enjoyed the food.
Nice atmosphere but disappointed with the menu. Food ok but not outstanding.
We have eaten in Gilbeys for many years and it was our first choice to support local restaurants during August. We also took my mother who hadn’t eaten out since March. It is easy to move around without being near people and with a restaurant this is usually packed with tables and people it was lovely to have more space. Service is as always friendly and professional. And the lemon tart as always - delicious. However, I have always had a hard choice of selecting my choice as there is always - for me - more than one thing I want to try. So far so normal, but then later my husband said he also had the same issue. We are very different eaters when out so it was a little disappointing. The daytime menu looked much more exciting but only available in the evening 6-7pm. We will be back.
Food and wine were excellent. Clean and good SD measures in place.
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent value, we will be back
Eat out for less birthday celebration...as always good food in a lovely old building.
We really enjoyed being able to have a British Sunday lunch. My roast beef was superb , my husband had roast pork, which was up to their usual standard. COVID-19 were adhered to .
We booked on the same day of our visit so had a later table sitting so was quieter out. Starter, main and pudding was delicious and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly.
I had the plaice and gnocci which was amazing. Hubby had the duck which he said is the best he has had.
Our main course of mussels has to be the worst we'd ever tasted. By the time an alternative was offered we just couldn't be bothered especially as our opinion was challenged by the waiter saying everyone else likes them! We were offered a free dessert but left feeling ripped off, hungry and appalled at the manner in which our complaint was handled. I would rarely write a review like this but honestly feel this restaurant does not deserve the business when there are excellent other choices in the same town.
Covid measures handled well without losing anything from the Gilbeys experience
