Gilbey's Old Amersham
Having successfully created the first Gilbey’s in Eton in 1975, we acquired what was then the celebrated old tea shop (The Willow Tree) in 1989. After extensive alterations on the history-steeped listed building, Gilbey’s was established, boasting a stylish yet intimate restaurant, a stunning first-floor private dining room and an attractive garden.
Our team is dedicated to delivering the very best quality and value to our customers and assure you of a very warm welcome at Gilbey’s Old Amersham.
Food was wonderful as was the ambience, but for me, the service sets it apart. Never felt we had to finish and leave, it just felt wonderful. Of course the food was good, it always is. Will be back in a month.
Beautifully cooked food served in a convivial atmosphere.
It’s sometime since dining with you, the menu was more limited than I remember with very little fish or vegetarian options. The service was poor, we waited a very long time before being offered a drink! In the end I had to catch the eye of a waitress! Disappointing. I’ve always held Gilbey’s as superior to others
Characterful place and interesting menu. Best of all, friendly and attentive staff who really care about allergies and dietary issues.
The food was very good indeed, the prices very reasonable for the quality and quantity, loved being able to get a carafe of good wine instead of a full bottle. The atmosphere was lovely, relaxed, not too empty and not too full (covid days...). We will go back there, especially if we're in shopping mood.
Beautiful calm space, fabulous waitress. Food was so good I was amazed. Can't wait to go back. Had plaice - amazing......one of the best meals I've had in a long time......
Every time the food and service is excellent. Atmosphere obviously quieter than normal but still feels cosy, warm and busy
We highly recommend the restaurant for its ambience, good food and professional staff. Good value for what we ate. I would suggest that the wine list includes more of the New World wines. To much emphasis on French and Italian wines. First time at Gilbey's and we will be returning.
Food at Gilbey's is brilliant. Like many businesses, they are adapting to working under COVID rules - when booking, try to avoid a table in the upstairs section, it is small and noisy and various shouted orders to and from the kitchen spoiled the atmosphere a bit. But I'm sure downstairs is lovely as always.
Lovely lunch - good value menu. Excellent Covid measures in place - but not intrusive.
Lovely Sunday lunch , great service not cheap
Friendly and helpful staff. Efficient service. Good quality food and plentiful portions. Relaxing environment.
I love Gilbey’s! It is my favourite local restaurant. I have never been disappointed with any of my menu choices. The set menus are excellent value and remind me of delicious meals in France! My girlfriends took me to Gilbey’s to celebrate my 60th.
Food and service was first class. As always, an enjoyable lunch.
Very enjoyable. Would have preferred a larger table. All the staff were welcoming and very friendly.
Ok, but the restaurant has lost a lot of its attraction. Largely due to COVID.
Superb food and wine with charming attentive service.
Excellent food and ambience as always. Very diligent with Covid security. Early evening set meal deal is good value for the quality of the meal.
Simply brilliant... as usual
Really lovely evening with attentive staff and nice food. Slightly noisy with a larger group next to us
Lovely food, beautifully presented and attentive but unobtrusive service. Reasonably priced good wine too!
Great food, lovely staff. Will definitely be back.
Food was excellent. Service very good and a pleasant atmosphere.
Fabulous. Worth every penny and still exceptional. Delicious food and great attention to all the little details. Definitely worth visiting - we need to keep this kind of restaurant open!
Always a lovely place to visit with food that never disappoints. Frequent change to lunch menu so glad to try different things each time
Really great food and exceptional service. Gilbeys is great for a romantic dinner out.
A very pleasant evening with good food, ambience and company. All boxes ticked
we arrived earlier than planned and were informed we could now dine at 5pm which was great. The service and food were really good - we felt we were having a special evening out.
We booked early as we were concerned about social distancing, we did feel, by 8.30 that the restaurant was quite full and felt a little uncomfortable as it is still quite a small restaurant. On a previous occasion the weather was nice enough to sit out in the courtyard and that was really lovely. It felt like we were abroad
We love Gilbeys. We always have a delicious meal and the service and atmosphere are excellent.
Wonderful as always and the staff did a great job of handling the latest Covid restrictions - seamless.
Truly lovely lunch with a friend. Everything about Gilbey’s is perfect. Don’t change a thing!
For years this restaurant has never failed us. Excellent food, wine and service and would highly recommend you try it if you haven't already
Gilbeys has a very pleasing atmosphere and a good choice of menu with some interesting options alongside steady favourites
All was well arranged relating to coronavirus without it diminishing our dining experience
Lovely anniversary meal. We were shown to a lovely outside table, sat and ordered a drink, only to be told we would have to move as the table had already been booked. Two other couples that subsequently came into the garden were offered that lovely table - obviously it hadn’t been booked. Other than that confusion and lack of cleaning (no covid cleaning was done after we were asked to move) it was a great evening.
First time ,visiting from the North
Excellent food and service
We will definitely return
Ambience is delightful. Service is exemplary. Food is tops. Wine is on point. And front of house is a veritable star.
On arrival we were taken to our table and after a short interval we were given the menu's and asked if we would like drinks. It was all very efficient and not rushed. The food was all excellent, without complaint. A very pleasant meal all round. Highly recommended. Will certain plan a return visit.
Early evening table booked for the set menu. We sat outside in the quiet courtyard. Delicious fresh food, well cooked and presented. Service attentive but not intrusive.
Please see private note to restaurant , usually a very pleasant place to eat.
