Gilbey's Old Amersham
Having successfully created the first Gilbey’s in Eton in 1975, we acquired what was then the celebrated old tea shop (The Willow Tree) in 1989. After extensive alterations on the history-steeped listed building, Gilbey’s was established, boasting a stylish yet intimate restaurant, a stunning first-floor private dining room and an attractive garden.
Our team is dedicated to delivering the very best quality and value to our customers and assure you of a very warm welcome at Gilbey’s Old Amersham.

Food was very average and overpriced - really wanted to like this place as looked like it had a nice atmosphere to it.
It was absolutely freezing outside on Monday. The service was nowhere near as friendly as it was the last time we were there. Has it become more expensive now???
Waiter was really friendly, food was really good quality, and really good value on the set menu. They've done well creating a nice space outside which on a dry, sunny day is really pleasant. Booked again for next weekend,
Very nice outside dining area - kept nice and warm by the heaters.
It was such a delicious meal very filling
The gazebo worked very well and there were heaters
Service was excellent as always
We had a meal at Gilbert’s on a cold May evening. The manager rang to remind us to dress warmly. There were heaters in the lovely outdoor area, and we were comfortable. The food was lovely, the service excellent and we really enjoyed being out of lockdown and in a restaurant!
Been coming to Gilbeys for years. Never disappointed. Done a superb job at this difficult time.
Very enjoyable lunch in the new outside space. Quite cosy - with the canvas cover and heaters - helped by the fact that the sun came out!
Food very tasty, nicely presented and the service was friendly and efficient
Outside space well organised and well heated. Lovely space to eat .
Great service. V friendly
Was doing ok until couple with young baby came in. Young staff more interested in these, perhaps known? Not a suitable venue for pram and baby.
Gilbeys is an exceptional restaurant, and its outdoor dining is really well set up.
Outside was amazing, well covered and had heaters, the lunch looked and tasted fabulous, and the staff were warm and welcoming!
Quite pleasing, but not offering full menu, probably due to covid restrictions?? We would have preferred to see a more selective choice of mains, e.g. there was no steak, no chicken main either. But service was very good and we would probably go back when the regular a'la carte is available.
Always a good night at Gilbeys, one of our favourites!
Lovely atmosphere outside with the fairy lights, covers and heaters.
Food was tasty, service with a smile and our waitress couldn't have been more friendly and attentive.
Not a fan of “discretionary “ gratuity and charitable donation being added to the bill particularly at 12.5% and £1 without asking. Yes the option is there to remove it but not good customer practice in my view.
Enjoyable evening - good food, great staff! We were celebrating a birthday and were given an extra ice cream with a candle in it!
A very pleasant and enjoyable experience
Great place great food great service.
Outside is well set up with heaters etc.
A lovely evening at Gilbeys ... food and wine delicious
Great effort made to provide outdoor dining that left you sheltered if it rained, which it did. It was an attractive setting and a great atmosphere. Menu was limited but that was fine. I always feel reassured it means everything is freshly made. Food was delicious and my starter of avocado and feta on a crumpets was something I'd never had before. Great flavours and textures. Excellent wine menu.
Food was great sadly the weather marred the enjoyment and because we were so cold we left before a desert or coffee
Very welcoming. Food tasted very fresh. Outdoor heating provided a comfortable temperature on a day when there was a chill in the air.
Our second visit in two weeks and thoroughly enjoyable. Lunchtime menu is great value, good variety and well cooked and presented. Highly recommend the feta crumpet, fish cake and mussels for starters, sea bream, duck and vegetable curry were all good main courses. Good variety of wines and bottled beers although a bit expensive but in difficult times I am happy to pay to support local businesses. Friendly and attentive staff provide a great ambience and we will revisit, for lunch, again soon!
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Gilbey’s. We felt very safe on our first outing for a meal. The food was delicious , portions a good size and the service was excellent.
Lovely food and great outside space but unfortunately we were a bit "forgotten". Food and drinks came quickly, but having been telephoned to be reminded that the table was only for 90 mins (booking for 3), after 2 hours we had to leave after 1 course and cancelling coffee!
As always, great food and excellent service. We can’t wait to go back for more.
lovely Restaurant with great ambiance, service and food
definitely would recommend this place to anyone that likes great choice of food
Only fault is the poor Wifi
It was nice to be back, chilly as it was in the shade! The food was as good as ever and staff seemed pleased to be working again!!
The Food was really amazing and the staff are always really lovely.
Gilbey's have made the outside area beautiful. Warm and welcoming.
Fantastic food - lovely outdoor area - service was fantastic - would definitely return.
Service was excellent. Surroundings are gorgeous.
Set menu great value for money! Superb evening - wrap up warm in the evening & you’ll have so much fun.
I have recommended Gilbeys to friends as a result of my experience.
Beautiful intimate outdoor area with heaters kept us comfortable. Food was excellent and we felt there was good choice on the set menu which also offered good value. Our server got the tone just right. Overall a lovely way to celebrate a birthday.
Very welcoming, excellent service and food.
Al fresco dining made comfortable by heaters.
Special arrangements for my wife's birthday much appreciated.
A lovely lunch with friends,with good food,friendly staff,excellent service.
The outside eating area has been carefully thought out with heating, well spaced tables and should be retained in the future as it gives a continental atmosphere.
For the price I think the food and wine could have been better. I was a bit disappointed to only have the set menu to order from but I can understand why in the current climate with them only just reopening. I won’t rush to go back though. We went there in 2018 and had a very similar experience with the food and wine then, so I don’t think it will necessarily be any different even later in the year.
Nice cosy outdoor space. Good good and service all st a reasonable price
Lovely surroundings and food was very good
