Gilbey's Old Amersham
Having successfully created the first Gilbey’s in Eton in 1975, we acquired what was then the celebrated old tea shop (The Willow Tree) in 1989. After extensive alterations on the history-steeped listed building, Gilbey’s was established, boasting a stylish yet intimate restaurant, a stunning first-floor private dining room and an attractive garden.
Our team is dedicated to delivering the very best quality and value to our customers and assure you of a very warm welcome at Gilbey’s Old Amersham.
Roast Sirloin of Dry-Aged Beef, Yorkshire Pudding

Roast Ribeye Collar of Suffolk Pork, Crackling & Apple Sauce

We had a very enjoyable dinner with the food cooked very well.
I ordered the sirloin on the bone rare and it came as ordered perfect.
We ordered the house red and that was room temperature as required and a reasonable cost.
Well done to all

It was an anniversary dinner so we did not want any fuss, just a quiet meal with good food, excellent service and not crowded.
Gilbeys in Amersham was a very good venue to achieve all of those aims
Gilbey’s is consistently good food and the lunch time menu is excellent value
Food is superb, quantities small but flavours great making for a very pleasant dining experience. I'm sure we'll go there again.
an excellent evening, fresh food fresh faces and everyone was smiling
A really enjoyable experience and great food. Looking forward to going again.
Lovely evening in the courtyard, food was delicious and well presented. Service was excellent. I was a little underwhelmed by my starter (Tomato & Mozarella) but all the other courses were great. More gnocchi with my Duck would have been great!
Service and food spectacular. Great recommendations from staff who were attentive but not overbearing. All the food was beautifully presented and looked straight out of master chef. We tried an unusual Moroccan chicken dish which was super tasty and flavoursome. Need to find another occasion to go back !!
Very friendly efficient service, excellent choice of food and wines. Overall very happy with our Anniversary experience at Gilbey's Amersham.
The head waiter , brought some else’s main meal , when we were waiting for our starter!!
Still our favourite local restaurant. Everything was perfect despite these difficult times. Limited menu at the moment but that is a good thing as keeping to just a few options means they can deliver good quality food. Will definitely be back soon.
Excellent food and polite and efficient service. The outside area is tastefully furnished with heaters above each table for the cooler evenings.
An excellent standard of coooking remains at this long-standing local gem. As well as the indoor restaurant there is a lovely covered area for al fresco dining which looks particularly pretty in the evening with the lights around. Service is attentive and professional. The menu caters well for both meat-eaters and vegan/vegetarians alike with emphasis on locally-sourced produce. Very good wine list.
Always used to enjoy it and it’s a beautiful setting. Perhaps it was just a bad night but was disappointed in the food which was average, and for the price I did expect more. We had to pour our own wine which I obviously don’t mind normally, but if you are going to charge a premium price then I would have expected that would have been part of the service. Bread was also very expensive. As I said sure it was just a bad night as it always used to be really good.
Great intimate venue for special occasion- friendly service and excellent food . Slightly limited menu choice but still enough good things to choose from. Only very minor negative was we checked the menu on line before going but the actual menu was different and not quite as good . Keep on line menus up to date please .
Overall excellent and will go again
Great welcome. Outside seating in a leafy glade. Excellent choice both with food and wine. Fish and chips cooked to perfection but the terrine, moules and Moroccan chicken were also delicious. The wine chosen was the most inexpensive Rose but was of an excellent quality. The service was just right and the temperature of the hot meals was perfect. Lovely discreet music in the background. Covid safety measures made for a carefree lunch.
Fabulous outdoor setting was matched by great food and service. Fabulous way to spend a balmy July evening catching up with friends.
Very reliably and consistently good. Food of high standard, but perhaps pricey. Service attentive but not intrusive. You know it will be good so despite the prices (in my view) worth recommending.
I took my parents to lunch in Gilbey’s in Amersham. We had a lovely time, the service was attentive and the food tasty. It was a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. I would definitely go again and recommend to others
Incredible food and the wine "Chateau de Fieuzal 2010" was exceptional (pretty much the same price that you would have to pay retail... love this place...
Good food, Good Ambience and Good Service
Outstanding value, would without doubt recommend to anyone wanting a
great lunch experience in a lovely well established restaurant in a nice town, such as Old Amersham.....
Had a lovely meal, our pudding (Ruby mousse) was amazing. I felt the moroccan chicken could do with a bit more spice, it was a bit mild. Service was good, and ambiance great.
Attractive building, comfortable seating, prompt service and very good cooking.
Excellent food and friendly service. We were celebrating my wife's (significant) birthday and we could think of a better place to be.
Lovely restaurant in Amersham, good quality organic food, excellent accommodating service and lovely staff. Great for a special occasion or casual lunch.
Food was good, but very limited menu. Service was rather hurried even though they weren’t busy.
New menu since I was last there pre pandemic, there was only a couple of meals I would have chosen from the menu.
Dessert menu very expensive, especially ice cream 🍦 £5.00 for 1 scoop + the most minute wafer I have ever seen, but it was nice.
Changed hands since I was there last. I must say I missed seeing Pip, she was so friendly , and seemed to remember everyone. Know it will take a while for new staff to get to know people, but just didn’t get that feeling of friendliness, especially from the new proprietor.
we had an excellent meal the food was well prepared and tasted wonderful and the staff were friendly and efficient
Great food, service and ambience but a light lunch shouldn’t be this expensive. Instead of visiting more regularly I will save for special occasions. Ordinary lunch , 2 x 175 house wines £112 for 2.
Maybe trying too hard to catch up after covid but this is third visit in last couple of months and simply not good value!
Thé food was delicious as usual, the service wasn’t as attentive as I’ve experienced previously
Excellent food and service, we had a lovely evening.
We enjoyed an absolutely fabulous lunch seated outside, drinking champagne & gorgeous wine. It was like being in the South of France! The surroundings both in and outdoors are just lovely. Excellent unfussy service and wonderful food. It’s not cheap but it is excellent value for money. This is the 2nd time I’ve dined here in a month and it’s now at the top of my list as my local favourite for a treat. Highly recommended.
This is a local restaurant we’ve only visited a couple of times but each visit has been great.
The food and service is amazing!
The menu may be a little uninspiring but the food was excellent as was the service.
Expensive. 6.00 for small beer and £34 .00 for mediocre bottle of wine
Plus bread which should have been complementary another £6.00 !
The food and service was very good. Will definitely return.
Called at Gilbeys to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary,
The table was just right and the food terrific- Fish n Chips for2 and Eton Mess for pudding.
Prosecco excellent + 2 Really nice coffees.
Service friendly and efficient .
Good food; Sunday menu is good value.
We enjoyed a superb Sunday lunch of roast beef, the service from Sam and another young waitress was first class, very friendly and attentive.
Excellent service by a staff ‘trainee’ from the branch in Eton and great food. Highly recommended for Sunday lunch.
We had a superb meal at Gilbey's, the food was top class and the service was excellent. Great value too!
