It's a very good bar with good taste of music and excellent view. Also the drinks are good.
Had to rate food so put middle star as not applicable, we only had drinks. We love this place, obviously not cheap but great place and view. We were initially put on 2 stools but we were moved when another table available. We have been a few times now but always enjoy it!
Overall it was a lovely time but the service staffs were not carefully watching around about the customers needs even though the space is quite limited. I had to wait for a while to get attention from the service staffs for 3 occasion within 2 hours. It was not particularly under staffed or busy time of the day, so it was a shame but otherwise I enjoyed the experience there!
Fantastic staff, who couldn't do enough to make the experience more enjoyable. Drinks were a little pricey but thoroughly enjoyed my time there.
unpolite. the first thing they tell you is when you have to leave again abd how much you have to spend. interestingly, half of the bar was empty ;-(
food and drinks really bad. service even worse. never again!!!
Poor service with very
Stunning views of course, but great drinks, atmosphere and service too
Excellent service, nice venue, and refined food.
The view was beautiful, but the experience was not exactly pleasant. We felt very rushed by the staff, who reiterated several times that we only have our table for 1.5 hours. We also witnessed an incident involving another couple, who wanted to sit by the window, but were told to go back to their assigned seats. Five minutes later, they were told that they can actually sit where they wanted. It felt very unnecessary, especially since the place was half empty. And then our bill was brought to us without us requesting it, after which we were reminded yet again that we had to leave. The place was still mostly empty. What's the point?
I took my girlfriend to Gong for what appeared to be a world class experience. I was left so underwhelmed with dirty windows, small and inexpensive tables, horrific choice and quality of food and even the snacks were cheap and uninspiring.
Add to this cocktails that have about as much presentation as Wetherspoons and prices that are extortionate.
Sure you are on the 52nd floor of the shard, but you would struggle to run a business as poorly if you tried. Even the glasses are cheap and naff glass. When you are paying hundreds of pounds for cocktails and champagne one would expect the very best. Flavoured olives with herbs and spices, perhaps a business brain to link the bar with the main kitchen and have food delivered a from a minute away.
Bollinger Non Vintage Rose is £32.69 in Asda to the general public. Warehouse prices are even less and being sold for £160. Most wines are £40-60 and cost £5-15. Dom Perignon Rose Vintage £899 when it costs £299. £600 premium for a truly underwhelming experience. .
Shangra La normally have so much class, a such a pity Gong is letting down the brand. Got the whole pace and start again and think it through. Make it British and French and make it class like the two countries did with Concorde. RENAME the bar CONCORDE AND serve the CERY best whiskies from the British isles with the best French wines and champagne.
Refit the place and make it special and get the window cleaners to clean this floor twice a week rather than once.
Special experience, staff so attentive. Will look forward to coming back.
I took my son, daughter and her boyfriend to Gong for drinks. I had been previously with a friend and het again it was fabulous. It's such a treat. The staff are fabulous, very courteous and professional, but happy to take photos. Obviously the views are stunning . . and so is the hotel itself. If you want to go somewhere special you cannot beat this. We didn't eat so I can't comment on the food but just go for a drink, you won't be disappointed.
Great cocktails, cracking sushi, unbelievable views. Well worth finishing a view from the Shard in this place. BTW best ever view from a urinal!
Beautiful bar but expensive for the drinks but well worth the view and the bar itself is stunning ! Staff were very friendly would highly recommend !
Just went for drinks with my mum and daughter. The place is lovely and is a treat due to the views and setting. The hostess was lovely but the service is a bit rubbish to be honest. It's a little Emperor's New Clothes in all style and little substance. It's pricey as hell but you expect that. Go for a cocktail and the view and then go somewhere normal.
Really ruined my birthday experience. Yes, the view is awesome. Yes it's cheaper to get a cocktail here than to go up the viewing platform. But service is really terrible - drinks were forgotten. Took forever for someone even to realise we needed the bill.
Would not bother going.
Lovely location and decor. Sadly the service was below standard, we had to wait in a ‘holding seat’, during which on 3 occasions our glasses were left empty (I had to speak to the gentleman in charge to ask for our glasses to be topped up).
When we finally got near a window after 45mins, which is after all the ‘unique selling point’ of the bar, the service was marginally improved.
In short this is a top quality location with top prices, and I compare it to both The Wolseley and The Ivy which we visited that very weekend, and I can assure you that it did NOT live upto standard.
I will not be recommending this location to any of my staff, colleagues or friends.... very disappointing.
Great views, relaxing environment with great cocktails. Lovely place for drinks with friends
Have visited several times and never disappoints
It was an unique experience. Breathtaking views. I recommend to make a reservation for the sunset :)
Disappointing. Arrived a little early and told table was not ready and there was no space in the bar. I then went up to bar as I knew where it was. It was half empty. Ordered a bottle of champagne and were told to drink up fast as they had table booked. The rest of of bar was half empty. Would not return
The lack of a dress code does not match the price of drinks and level or standard of expected Clientele. eg. When we were there in the Gong bar between 5 and 6pm there were men in T shirt and thongs and girls in cut off jeans.
Also we had to wait 15 mins to attract a waiters attention to get a second drink, we could have drank twice as much in our allotted time slot.
Seductive music in the background would have added to the ambiance.
We have owned and operated our own award winning Restaurant as well as being a consultant for cafes and Restaurants so we know what we are talking about.
Otherwise we enjoyed the experience.
Carol and Peter Martelletti.
Amazing experience for my out of town guests. Yes, expensive but a unique place for a drink and the time limit stops you from "overspending"!! Would definitely go again for a special occasion
Very rushed. Had the table for an hour and half. Arrived early and still insisted only one hour 30 mins. Researched before about dress code. Read no trainers or sportswear. Arrived and majority of men had trainers on. Why a dress code if not enforced. Drinks very expensive.
Nice views of the city but the drinks are subpar. Also overheard other customers being rushed off to finish their drinks (2-hour windows are given to customers) despite the venue being relatively quiet. The acoustics aren't great so you can hear a lot of different conversations. Wait staff were inattentive as we were in the middle of a shift changeover. Overall it is fine if you just want to have good views of the city over a drink, but don't expect 5-star service - have experienced much better service from other Shangri-Las in other countries/cities.
Great atmosphere with attentive service. Great views as well.
Great experience and amazing place but was very disappointed that I booked this months ago and asked for a window seat, as I was celebrating my 50th birthday and had come up from Poole to visit, but when I mentioned this to the lady that seated us, she didn't give us a window seat at all, just put us on the inside, which was such a shame, and there was only 4 of us. Eventually we got moved by our server once the sun had gone down! Put me off of coming back.
they would only serve a cup of tea with food. So we had to order sushi!
Excessive prices even for London standards. But what is worse, they have forgotten that if you have such a high price levels, some basics should be provided: Excellent Quality & Enough Quantity. None of them were achieved in my experience. Disgusting.
The waiter was very absentminded and would constantly forget about our orders. Other waiters were no better. Once the waiter even brought the wrong order.
Nice ambiance and great view. Drinks are overpriced and poor service.
The view was fantastic. The hostess and bartender are world class. You only get 90 minutes from the time you're seated, which makes sense, but the speed of service is sluggish. My friend and I were only able to order 2 cocktails in that time. I could/would have done 5 and my friend 3. Easily half an hour between ordering and receiving a drink. I'm a bartender myself and deal with worse customer to employee ratios. My jaw would be on the floor and my butt would be out the door if it took me half an hour to serve a customer.
Very nice, quite expensive, but the view is worth the money.
This is my third time visiting a restaurant/bar at The Shard and Gong didn't disappoint. The vibe is great. Very hip, trendy, good chilled house music, and beautiful people. We were sat on a sofa and ordered a cocktail before being moved over to our table by the window for the spectacular views. It was my husband's birthday and it was a lovely evening. We ordered several sushi dishes and the food was fantastic and reasonably priced. The drinks are definitely overpriced however. But you're really paying for that "unmatched view of London" surcharge. Tables are booked for 90 minutes for small parties and although we weren't told to wrap up exactly by then, we got the vibe that the restaurant was ready for us to complete our dinner. I'd recommend standardizing the dining timeframe to 2 hours for everyone. We'd feel less rushed. Oh, and they don't have a desserts...or at least anything you can formally order. Once our waiter found out it was a birthday he brought us a small plate of chocolates, toffee, and fruit. It was nice but I think they could have at least a few simple ice creams or sorbet or something. Anyway overall service was great. I was a bit skeptical after reading the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. Christos and Manuel were awesome. Thanks again!
Gong has become our go to place for visiting family and friends. It's expensive, but it is worth it for a special occasion. The view is amazing and the range of cocktails are fun and interesting. The staff try to ensure you always get a turn sitting by the windows, and the unlimited bar snacks are a bonus.
A great place for a cocktail before going on to eat in one of the other restaurants in The Shard. Make sure to time your visit to carton the amazing sunset (clouds permitting!)
Beautiful place with amazing views and great ambience, shame the service does not match it in the slightest. Our waiter was very arrogant and stuck up, if I come in a place like this I expect to be treated with respect and I expect a great service. For that reason will not be coming back and rather chose a place next time where I will be treated equal.
This was my 1st time at Gong. I booked a table for an out of town colleague and myself. As often happens we were running late, this was no problem and the hostess was very courteous about extending our grace period. Immediately upon arrival we were given a warm greeting down stairs as well as a very gracious hello in Gong itself. We were given a beautiful tucked away table with gorgeous panoramic views on all sides. It was then my colleague told me she was scared of heights. The staff dealt with this very tactfully and we were moved without fuss or drama to a more central table. The staff were amazing throughout, attentive and obliging. The Bar itself is aesthetically pleasing. The cocktails are delicious. Well worth the extra pennies as it is a high end holistic experience, not just a bar.
Even though the view was hindered by the clouds, still an amazing experience. Would definitely recommend.
Perfect place for a special occasion!! The view was stunning and the staff were lovely.
Views are the main attraction here and in regards this, it was amazing. Service ok in bar and the cocktail albeit expensive was excellent. Whole experience ruined by the weird waiting in the reception. With no explanation or time given - and almost indifferent treatment, it became more like a machine than a dining experience.
