The view is incredible, the cocktails are great. People go there to enjoy the view while drinking nice cocktails, so it's perfect. Even the non-alcoholic drinks are fantastic (I really recommend the Ctrl+Alt+Del which is only £11). We were also surprised to hear that we had to buy drinks/food for a minimum of £30/person, but, since the ticket for the viewing platform is £25 (without any drink) we were not too disappointed as we could enjoy the view and drink nice cocktails for almost the same price.
Moreover, the staff is really friendly, they were asking questions to get to know us, which was nice. It's the perfect place for all occasions.

The ambience was very nice, the layout and design of the bar was excellent but there were a few very unsatisfactory moments.

We were sat in a window seat in the corner and while the view was incredible it became very clear to us that we were not going to be waited on, it took at least 20-25 minutes before we were even looked at by a waiter, even though the bar was not that busy at the time, during this time I had to go to the bar and ask for some drinks which annoyed me because the money that you pay for the service which is often regarded as exceptional, was very poor. After our evening was finished and we were settling the bill we accounted another issue. When we got the bill it had a service charge on there, now while I am more than happy to pay the service charge for a service that is worth it, this unfortunately was not. After asking one of the waiters for the service charge to be taken off the bill he got very annoyed and said that we had to speak to the manager who was busy at the time. I responded by saying that’s fine and asked how long he would be and the waiter then said I don’t know and walked off. I then found the manager and asked him to please remove the service charge off the bill and then explained my reasons why, while at first he had his back up about the situation, he then agreed to remove it from the bill.

Overall I wouldn’t recommend Gong to a friend, there is in my opinion not a lot of value for money. Although the bar was very nice and the drinks were also good.

The Staff were wonderful, but the organisation last Sunday night was dismal.
My wife and I booked for a London Restaurant Festival offer of "8 Sharing Asian Plates plus sake" for £50 (I assumed this is £50 each but its not clear from the offer)
Despite someone from Gong phoning up on the day to confirm our order, the reception at Gong were completely unaware of our special offer.

We arrived at 6:20 and ordered drinks which arrived promptly. Time passed and noone came to ask about food. When the waiter came to ask if we wanted more drinks, we asked about our Festival food and he disappeared off to make some frantic phone calls. He came back to and said that all was OK.
20 minutes later he again assured us the food was coming soon, and showed us the menu cards that talked about our offer. A minute or so later a couple of glasses of sake arrived.
The food finally arrived at 7:15 and consisted of 3 long oval dishes containing a range of sushi, 12 or 14 pieces in all plus a bowl of beans.
The sushi was indeed high quality, but sadly there was little overlap with the Asian plates described on the menu. It was pretty clear that Asian plates were off the menu on Sundays, and so they had looked down the sushi menu, assembled £80 of sushi bites, added 2xsake for £20 and hoped for the best.
The waiters seemed to be aware of the possible problem, and asked us a couple of times if the food was OK. I reassured them the food was good, but I did not want to stick around for the hassle of arguing about what should have been served.
So in summary, the staff in the restaurant were great, the behind the scenes participation in the London Restauarant Festival was half hearted at best, and the recommendation for future guests is to treat the bar as "quick snacks only" - go for the views at sunset, and eat a proper meal elsewhere.

Anyway the evening ended well as we got a nice takeaway curry on the way home.

Stunning venue, amazing drinks and lovely complimentary nibbles. It was a lovely experience, all the staff were very polite, however we felt a little rushed. The bill was brought halfway through our second drink, whilst we still had 45 mins left of our 2 hour booking, and as the venue was quite quiet that evening, we were hoping to have stayed for another drink.

This is our second visit to Gong & it was as enjoyable this time around. We had a lovely table with a view of HMS Belfast & Tower Bridge. The service was excellent & our waitress made the visit very personal. We were especially grateful for the delicious truffles to celebrate the anniversary of our engagement at Gong in 2015.

Oriole Bar, Nightjar, Layaness

Slightly over-priced sushi (for what it was); ditto the cocktails were fairly expensive. The wine list is well-priced.
Service was attentive and brisk, without being oppressive.
Obviously fantastic views (of South and East London and beyond). Beautifully designed and appointed space.
Would recommend, but would advise that you're paying for the privilege of the view!

We had the reservation from 6pm and on the reservation email it was a sitting for 90 mins. After 50 minutes the waitress came over to tell us we only had 15 minutes left. This was after waiting 40 minutes to get a window table.

It was also €140 for four drinks so quite expensive. Overall we didnt feel welcome there. The views are amazing but only from the window seat which you may only get for a short window as we did.

After reading a few reviews saying staff 'hounded' you to keep buying drinks I was a little bit cautious, but thought the view would be worth the risk. The WOW what a view. It far exceeded my expectation. Staff knew how to do a good job, and couldn't have done more. Even moved us to a window seat when one became available. Has to be the best view from a urinal, possible in the entire world! Minimum spend is just £30 per head. Just make sure you go during sunset. You won't regret it!

Service was absolutely terrible. For the money you pay to enjoy a drink in this bar the service should be on point. The attitude of the waiters was ridiculous and the time it took to get attention for a drink considering the amount of waiters that were not doing anything was not right. I booked a table of 3 for myself, my partner and my father and none of us will be back

Our waiter Manuel was incredibly kind and went above and beyond for myself and my friend. He brought me chocolates after my friend told him it was my birthday! He also let us wait 15 minutes over our time after we were told leave.

However we found the lady (I do not know her name, she had her hair pulled back from her face) that greeted us was quite rude, she really looked down upon us and appeared to not want to be there. We were appalled by the way in which we were greeted and shown to our table in such an inattentive manner. She never said enjoy your evening, she only said there is a £30 minimum spend and walked away. We weren’t aware of how long we had the table for, until she came over and sternly told us we had exceeded our time, and that there were other people waiting. We apologized and said we weren’t aware of the time limit, to which she just repeated that we had 15 minutes to leave while ignoring our apology.
It would be highly beneficial for her to be taught some basic customer service skills at least, and to smile once every so often, if that isn’t too difficult for her. This lady really lets down the Gong and it’s reputation as the other members of staff are so kind and helpful.

We booked a table for 22:30 on the Friday before last and we arrived 5 minutes early and checked in at the front desk. We were told to wait on the sofa in the ground floor area and waited 25 minutes (!!) before I went up to ask the host if we were going to be seated any time soon. She then made a call and we were shown up stairs. By the time we were seated it took until 23:10 before our drink order was taken. Considering that we booked a table I felt this was terribly slow service and we did not have any acknowledgement or apology for such a delay. There is a minimum spend of £30/head so to spend this much before our train home at 00:30 was a rush and it should not have been.

Turned up on time only to be told had drinks only reservation - despite reserving High Tea Table for 3
Eventually got table. Nothing like Shangri-La n other countries. High Tea Platter rack was dirty, Tea Pots and China looked like it came from Ikea - no offense to Ikea but really - stainless Steel Teapots. Food was average and I would have expected much more for the price. Service was indifferent throughout the experience

Great view but terrible service. Had to wait for 20 mins in the lobby before going up to our table (we arrived on time but the table wasn't ready). They moved our table 3 times. Took 20 minutes to have a drink after being seated. Ordered a cocktail that was supposed to come in a hot air balloon glass but didn't with no explanation. No apologies throughout any of this and staff appeared to be quite hostile.

If you go make sure you get a seat next to the window otherwise not worth it. We had booked then had to wait downstairs in the foyer of the hotel for 15-20 minutes, then wait in a queue upstairs after they have told you your table is ready. Then got a table very close to another couple, right next to the entrance. It was impossible not to overhear the staff arguing with one another and freaking out about how they need to turn the tables and frantically running around like headless chickens. They told us on three separate occasions that the table is reserved for 1hr 30 and the minimum spend is £30 per person. Rushed service no personal touch at all, overcrowded and people trying to take photos constantly of the view which is ok I guess but not when they encroach on other people’s space - it’s cramped enough as it is. Cocktails were £19-23 each , ok but not nearly as good as comparable options for that price (The Savoy, Corinthia, Langham, Claridges, The Ned). Had to grab someone for the bill , it came but then no one came to collect it so I had to get up and give it to someone. Standard 12.5% discretionary service charged which I removed as there was no service. Not enjoyable at all. 2/10 just for the partial view.
