As a one off visit ,the views are wonderful, but the bar is a rip off having a minimum spend on drinks that are grossly over priced, and a fixed 1.5 hour time slot!
We had friends over form Australia so glad we did it ,won't do it again
Brother’s birthday celebration
Great views, terrible service. We had to flag down staff and it seemed that when we ordered we were more of an inconvenience to staff than a customer. Most of the time the 2 bar staff, the waitress and the women on the door were standing around talking as opposed to serving customers.
Turned up on time only to be told had drinks only reservation - despite reserving High Tea Table for 3
Eventually got table. Nothing like Shangri-La n other countries. High Tea Platter rack was dirty, Tea Pots and China looked like it came from Ikea - no offense to Ikea but really - stainless Steel Teapots. Food was average and I would have expected much more for the price. Service was indifferent throughout the experience
Loved every moment of it , very helpful staff and magnificent views
Amazing experience, amazing view. Completely worth it!
Excellent table with a beautiful view, staff made extra effort for my fiancé’s birthday. Cocktails were second to none, pricey but so enjoyable. Definitely a must for special occasions.
Amazing views overlooking London great drinks and food as well would recommend for special occasions to anyone
Great view but terrible service. Had to wait for 20 mins in the lobby before going up to our table (we arrived on time but the table wasn't ready). They moved our table 3 times. Took 20 minutes to have a drink after being seated. Ordered a cocktail that was supposed to come in a hot air balloon glass but didn't with no explanation. No apologies throughout any of this and staff appeared to be quite hostile.
Good ambience and location!! Service as nice too
If you go make sure you get a seat next to the window otherwise not worth it. We had booked then had to wait downstairs in the foyer of the hotel for 15-20 minutes, then wait in a queue upstairs after they have told you your table is ready. Then got a table very close to another couple, right next to the entrance. It was impossible not to overhear the staff arguing with one another and freaking out about how they need to turn the tables and frantically running around like headless chickens. They told us on three separate occasions that the table is reserved for 1hr 30 and the minimum spend is £30 per person. Rushed service no personal touch at all, overcrowded and people trying to take photos constantly of the view which is ok I guess but not when they encroach on other people’s space - it’s cramped enough as it is. Cocktails were £19-23 each , ok but not nearly as good as comparable options for that price (The Savoy, Corinthia, Langham, Claridges, The Ned). Had to grab someone for the bill , it came but then no one came to collect it so I had to get up and give it to someone. Standard 12.5% discretionary service charged which I removed as there was no service. Not enjoyable at all. 2/10 just for the partial view.
Manuel was so amazing, helped us decide ok drinks when we couldn’t, and we both enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you Manuel for making our night unforgettable!!
Gong was a nice one time experience, the staff were friendly and considerate to rotate everyone around to ensure everyone had time at the window seats. This meant that the vibe was slightly chaotic and at one point there were several people hovering around trying to rearrange tables.
View was amazing once we were seated at a window seat. Drinks were delightful, and the bar snacks were a nice touch if not a little stale, the olives were excellent though.
We had a really nice time, but as the prices are so high I was expecting more of a sophisticated, seamless less chaotic feel.
No 5 stars
The Gong Bar is spectacular for it's positioning. It is a truly special occassion. There a couple of things which made this visit fall short of a 5* review.
One of the sinks in the toilets had a section of marble (where the tap comes from), which was loose. You don't expect this in a 5* hotel!
Our waiter didn't ask to try the wine, it was poored straight into 4 glasses. Also the levels of wine were quite different.
Great view, excellent service
great place for a couple drinks for an occasion.
Would definitely go back again
Amazing View, Cocktails and Sushi! I Highly recommend. They have a $30 drink minimum! Enjoy
Amazing service, staff couldn't do enough for us. Thank you!
The service was great, I didnt like one if the drinks and they were very, very nice and offer me a solution. The views are awesome and I feel Happy with the experiencia
I've been before and took some new guests this time. Easy to book online. Great views. Great service. Great cocktails and service. Getting from ground zero and up 2 lifts is a faff, especially more so if you are eating a few floors down and have to go all the way down and back up (allow 15mins to go down to Oblix). For London prices are good too.
We had friends over from Oz and thought it would be nice to go the Shard for drinks and the view.
First thing the maitre’d said after hello was “do you know it’s a £30 minimum spend”. I think this is a little rude. At least let us sit down, explain the menu and then say it’s a minimum spend of £30. Alternatively include this clearly on the booking confirmation. We were already aware of this so not an issue. Just don’t thinks it provides a nice experience for customers if this is the first question you throw at them.
We were only going for cocktails and they were actually really disappointing and over priced at approx £20 per cocktail for mainly massive ice chunks in the glasses.
They did not taste very good at all. Nothing special about them at all.
I had a taste of Asia which was not very nice. I also had a princess of China which was a saucer glass of something pink with a tiny pathetic pansy flower in the corner.
It looked like something a child would make and decorate.
There were 6 of us in the party. 4 of us tried 5 different cocktails. One of us decided to just order a Bellini in the end as at least you knew it was likely to taste good.
You are pretty much just paying for the view. It’s just a shame that the drinks aren’t as lovely as the view as well.
Would not recommend this unless you just want the view and are happy to put up with minimum spend and terrible cocktails.
Hands down one of the best experiences I've had in London. Beautiful views, delicious food, great atmosphere and wide selection of drinks. I took my other half here for his birthday and he loved it. It's such a special place. Will be returning.
Love this place best views in the city. Staff friendly and helpful. Always enjoy it here
GŎNG is amazing, the atmosphere everything, the team are very accommodating and welcoming. I will be returning definitely and I cannot wait for my next visit here. The panoramic view is amazing and really ties the experience all together. I love it here!
Stunning bar and views. Felt really special without being pretentious. Waiters were spot on, as were the cocktails and sushi. Booked for my sisters’ 30th pre drinks before dinner and she loved it.
Fabulous view with seats by the window, great service but the cocktails were only average to slightly disappointing for such a great venue.
Not a good food selection. Very over priced and water downed drinks.
My husband and I had a wonderful time over drinks while watching the sunset. We were given a table at the window, which I had requested. There is a 30 pound minimum per person, which we didn’t know about until we arrived. We had just eaten dinner and weren’t interested in ordering food, so we had to order enough in drinks to make our minimum. This was hardly an issue because drinks are very expensive here. Neither my husband or I mind paying a lot for either drinks or food as long as the quality (and to a certain degree, the quantity) is fair. We decided on a top shelf vodka on the rocks for 15 pounds per drink. We have found that laws in the UK require places to keep the pour VERY tiny compared to what we normally get in the US. Because of that, my husband ordered us both a double. He figured we would be charged 30 pounds per drink and there was our minimum. Well, you should have seen his face when the drinks arrived! There was so little vodka that he assumed we’d been given single pours. The waiter said no, these were doubles; that they always serve doubles without having to be asked. My husband was afraid we were being charged 30 pounds for each of those drinks, but when he asked he was told no, these were the 15 pound pours. We decided to just order another round when we were done to make our minimum. It was just kind of confusing. If was basically a great experience though. The views are amazing. You can’t quite see the sun itself setting, but you can see the effects. Our waiter brought three small dishes of snacks which we enjoyed with our drinks. Another time I think we would order food and a glass of wine. The food menu is very limited - almost completely sashimi and sushi. I bet it’s good though. This bar is in the Shangri-La Hotel within the Shard building. The hostess and server were both very friendly. We will return next time we’re in London. Although expensive, you’re paying for the lovely atmosphere and unrivaled view.
Amazing views, made to feel special and would definitely return.
Nice view and service. Cocktails overrated and not very creative. Sometimes boring in taste. Very loud music. Once in a lifetime thing, not a bar I would visit on a regular basis.
Poor - will not be returning.
OVERPRICED. SMALL AREA. NO INFORMATION ABOUT VIEWS. WAS VERY DISSAPOINTING.
The ambience was amazing and the view was nice. However the service we received from the staff was a let down. It seems everyone was too busy to serve us. Although the table besides us get a lot of attention from them. Anyway we love cocktails and yuzu sake.
Very pleasant experience however the new £30/person requirement is a bit too steep and it was noticed as on a weekend the place was half empty. £20-25/person would be a more reasonable amount.
Lovely drinks and snacks, exceptional service and beautiful views! Would recommend
What should be an iconic bar with a great ambience, has been let down by its poor service.
Firstly, the cocktails we were after "handyman" had ran out.
Secondly, we were promised snacks that never materialised.
Thirdly, when it came to paying the bill, we paid the full amount plus a tip. However I went to the bathroom and upon my return, my friend told me we were charged an extra £10.50. After some tooing and frowing with the bar staff, finally we got £10 back and an explanation of this was the managers fault. So not only did we not receive the full amount extra back, but, we didn't even get an apology. This was very disappointing, given the shards status and the cost of the drinks.
Therefore, the service has ultimately let down what should be a cool, iconic bar.
If you want the best view of London while sipping wonderful cocktails and being wined and dined by amazing staff, Gong is the place to go. Ines and Marine took such great care of my cousin and I - they were attentive, fun to talk to and went the extra mile to make sure we had a great time. It was my cousin’s birthday and the staff even brought out an adorable little platter of fruits and sweets to commemorate that. Highly recommended, will definitely go back!
Rubbish hospitality upon arrival. The hostess was rude and told me I was a liar. There is no notice on this website that there is a minimum spend of £30pp.
It was pouring with rain and we had been sampling the wares in Borough Market. Whether they thought we were too 'cheap' for their establishment I dont know, but from the moment we approached the reception lectern we were treated abysmally. We were repeatedly told minimum spend £30 and we could only have the table for an hour and a half (I wasn't treated so rudely on my first visit in April). The French waitress, whilst standing looking down through her nose at us gave us regular time checks, there was an empty table next to us, so don't know why she was so keen for us to leave. We waited up to fifteen minutes for second round of cocktails, receiving another time check during this! Such a shame, enjoyed my first visit but this has left a nasty taste! Just plain rude!
