Goodfellows is a restaurant and cafe in the heart of Wells. At lunch we have a daily changing menu using fish from Brixham, which we specialise in. We also have a selection of meat and vegetarian dishes and lighter salads and sandwiches, served alongside our hand made patisserie , cakes and breads. For dinner we have a choice of dishes using locally sourced meats, vegetarian dishes and our speciality seafood menu. We also have a 6 course tasting menu showing off the talents of our kitchen brigade.

We have a room upstairs which will hold a maximum of 24 guests and is perfect for private dining for birthdays, special events, Christmas or just a get together with friends. The minimum number for exclusive use of the room is 12 and there is no room hire charge

Goodfellows excels at outstanding food at reasonable prices. We thought the pan fried scallops with wild mushrooms, carrot and star anise puree with truffle dressing was exceptional, and the starter of Brixham crab with won ton pastry and soy vinaigrette was also very fine. Overall the restaurant manages to combine brilliant flavours with assured presentation.
The food is always spot on, inventive, flavoursome and beautifully presented. There is a good choice of wines to complement the food. The service is just right too, welcoming and attentive without ever being 'in your face'.
This venue works well on a number of levels - from a catch-up coffee with friends (the cakes and biscuits are yummy) right through to a full-blown gourmet experience with the opportunity to watch the chefs at the pass. The food outshines the surroundings but that is no bad thing.
Was passing through with husband and 2 kids (11 & 13). Needed to grab a quick lunch but I have dairy and wheat allergies which means most places are a 'no'. Managed a booking here through TopTable and could not have been happier.
The place is small and cosy. The staff are friendly. The wine list was reasonable. But the food! It was EXCEPTIONAL. I had tuna carpaccio which was sublime. Husband had roasted veggies and goats cheese, daughter had gazpacho, and son had duck confit. Every dish was beautifully presented and everyone was exceptionally happy with their meals.
I would highly recommend and will certainly be back when next in the area.
Outstanding on all levels
We opted for the 5 course taster menu; a perfect balance of different dishes, just the right quantities and the perfect pause between courses. The quality of the food whilst expected to be superb, still exceeded expectations!
Service: friendly, attentive but not intrusive
Brilliant gazpacho, lovely scallops with a delicate but flavourful champagne sauce, and a lovely strawberry dessert that went down easily! Portions are just right. Service is terrific and ambiance is so friendly and warm. We took friends who were foodies and they loved it too!
Goodfellows is the best restaurant for miles. There are cheaper options but no-one else in the vicinity does fine dining as well. The service is friendly and helpful and the wine list offers a range of wines at affordable prices. We prefer to eat in the front section rather than overlooking the kitchen but that's personal choice. A real treat.
We have eaten here many times and the food and Service has always been excellent. The Staff are attentive without being in your face and nothing is ever too much trouble for them. They make you feel very welcome. The Chef provides food of an exceptional quality (especially the confit of duck!) and is of Michelin Star quality.
We have never been disappointed and we will be back soon.
My husband and I had an amazing meal , we chose the set menu that was five courses.
It was beautifully presented and tasted exquisite.
We both loved watching the screen's around the restarant, that enabled dinners to see the chief prepair and plate the food.
Will most definitely be back.
A must for all lovers of food.
Cosy and comfortable, near enough to talk easily but not disturbed by neighbouring tables. Efficient, friendly and knowledgeable service. Extremely good food made from fresh, often local, ingredients prepared from scratch. Food as it should be. I will definitely go again as you feel welcome as a couple, a family, a group. You can eat a snack or a complete menu. A very versatile and welcoming venue. Highly recommended.
We booked a table for a small celebration of my brother's major birthday. The welcome was warm and the service prompt and friendly. The menu choice was small but it made it easier to decide what to have. The food arrived quite quickly and was beautifully presented. Everything was home made and absolutely delicious. The price reflected the quality of the food and I would describe the cost as mid-range. Would definitely go again and would recommend this restaurant to others. My only slightly negative comment is that the tables are a little close together, but the restaurant is quite small, so it does create an intimate atmosphere.
This was a planned lunch for my husbands birthday as we'd been there before, and it didn't disappoint. I ordered the fish of the day and it was excellent. The taste was better than any I've tasted and it was beautifully presented. The portion size and accompaniments were just right and the emphasis was clearly on quality. I would recommend this place to anyone who is a true foodie and you will not be disappointed
