We were pleased to be able to book a table at relatively short notice. We were greeted politely by the lady owner. The service was efficient. We enjoyed our starters of Brixton crab and hot salmon very much and the bread brought to the table was very fresh. My partner enjoyed his confit of duck very much, stating it was as good as any he had eaten in France. My turkey with garnish was excellent although I found the winter vegetables a little under cooked and lacking flavour. We shared a dessert of chocolate cup filled with Christmas pudding ice ream absolutely delicious.
The restaurant front room was 75% full on a very busy Friday evening just 10 days before. Hrustmas. There were parties upstairs and we did well to be served in good time. Our experience was on occasions marred by a very noisy party of four and a couple whose every word we could hear. Value for money might have been enhanced if there had been a set price for say two courses which is much more the norm theses days, esp in France.
We did enjoy the whole experience. the food was presented very nicely and we would go again when we visit Wells again.
We love visiting goodfellows for either a quick snack for lunch, meeting friends for coffee and cake but most of all we come for the excellent fish menu for a good lunch the staff are so friendly and helpful with any food allergies the setting as you watch Adam cook is great the taste in the food is excellent.
They have a limited number of options on the menu which is good because they can concentrate on getting everything just right - and they do. The food is delicious and the place well worth the 110 miles we drove to get there! It's been over twelve years since I first went there while passing through Wells on work, it's changed, it's even better than I remembered!
Simply perfect , and the food was sheer dining perfection from the look to the taste and the quality .
Will most certainly be back .
Thank you .
Food was slightly salty but that’s what seafood should taste like. Scallops are well pan sealed, enhanced by the drizzling taste of truffle. Recommended dish: scallops
My friend and I enjoyed our dinner at Goodfellows, although the staff on arrival appeared slightly unwelcoming in spite of our table reservation. Nevertheless, all dishes ordered were timely, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We would definitely make a return visit.
Superb food, superb, friendly service (one of our party was 25 mins late at a busy time-taken in their stride), would recommend for any occasion.
The excellent standard of food and service can be guaranteed.
We enjoyed an excellent business lunch at Goodfellows with one of our clients. The food was exceptional as was the service. Each course was immaculately presented and quite delicious. I particularly enjoyed the scallops which were done to a tee. Even the cheese board was exemplary. It was apparent that considerable care had been taken to ensure the entire dining experience was as pleasurable as possible. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to fellow future diners. My compliments to the Chef.
We enjoyed all the dishes. A very nice restaurant.
Fantastic food as always and the staff are very attentive and polite
I can’t fault it but would like to perhaps see the restaurant as light and airy as the bar area
By far the best restaurant in Wells
Always reliably excellent food beautifully presented. I have never felt rushed and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Very tasty and prettily presented food. Decor clean but stylishly underwhelming - excellent value lunch
Lovely meal everyone loved their food. Only reservation is that the portions tend to be small so you do need three courses. But that said we had a delicious meal.
Another lovely meal at Goodfellows- perfect service, excellent food, as always.
My favourite place to eat, by far.
Excellent as ever always a good choice of starters and main courses with seasonal choices. The crab starter was particularly tasty and my wife really enjoyed her scallops.
Very good and tasty dinner, really enjoyed the seafood
This is a quality restaurant offering a small but well selected menu of classic dishes. The service is professional and unobtrusive. The food is very well cooked and attractively presented without gimmicks.
A very good solidly reliable restaurant.
Excellent food, went on Saturday Lunch, fully booked but service and ambiance good, a treasure in a small busy city.
As ever, lovely food cooked on the spot. No overloaded plates, pudding to die for. AND excellent value. Efficient but low key service. I cannot fault this restaurant.
Excellent food and well sourced. Good ambience and service. Slightly on the pricey side compated with other similar but worth paying a little more.
Absolutely stunning. Had the set menu and the wine to support each course. Every mouthful was heavenly.
Thank you so much
The food was incredible, well presented and extremely tasty, good value for money. Service seemed a little rude/blunt at times.
This restaurant never disappoints the food was again excellent. My wife really enjoyed her scallops and my game stew was tasty, well presented and full of the different game flavours.
As per usual, a wonderful meal in a fantastic fish restaurant. Never fails to disappoint. Great food, wine and company. A great meal was had by all. Thank you.
This has been our favourite restaurant for decades - since it opened. The quality of cuisine is, in my opinion, unrivalled for miles. The menu is designed with mouthwatering flavour combinations in mind & Adam's cooking is absolutely outstanding. The portions may not seem over generous to some, but when the flavours, textures & seasoning are so expertly combined, it's all about quality over quantity & I always feel 'just right' rather than stuffed at the end of the meal. I also feel much happier than when I arrived. Cuisine like this is a form of medicine!
We've been here as a couple or with family many times and have never been disappointed. Good food good service. The portion sizes aren't too big, perfect amount to satisfy the appetite.
Lovely, beautifully presented food, prepared in their open kitchen for all to see. Attentive service.
Perfect for our anniversary.
In a word, 'outstanding'. Adam Goodfellow is a superbly consistent chef. His tasting menu is excellent value, with a wonderful variation of fish. In many years of visiting we have never been disappointed.
This was our first visit, following a recommendation on a miserable wet evening. Lovely buzzing atmosphere, with friendly knowledgeable staff. The food was sublime and reasonably priced. We will return.
This is the third time recently that we have had lunch at Goodfellows and every time the food, service and value for money has been excellent. House wine excellent as well. Would definitely recommend going there.
Visited for lunch. Waiter was friendly, attentive and efficient. Starters were beautifully presented and of exceptional quality, the tuna carpachio being especially noteworthy. Standard was maintained for the main course where both the Brill and Gurnard were delicious and looked amazing. After that the sweet might have been a disappointment, but wasn't! Great value too. Highly recommended.
For my husband and myself, my visit to Goodfellows, Wells, was a big disappointment. The Roast Pork, which should have been lean meat, as the crackling was a side dish, was extremely fatty. Roast potatoes did not taste as they should do and some of the vegetables were undercooked. I ordered the vegetable bake which were a few undercooked, tasteless chopped up vegetables swimming in a watery sauce all at a cost of £11.00? The dessert duly arrived and looked appetising. However, the pudding ordered was meant to be a rich, creamy and biscuity cheesecake. Instead it was tasteless and mousse like with a sparse and soggy biscuit undercarriage. The service was not exceptional and had us waiting unnecessarily at times, though the staff were helpful and friendly. I am not usually such a harsh critic of restaurant food which, in the main, I find good but felt obliged to be honest on this occasion. Goodfellows was the worst experience I have ever encountered. The cost of the meal was more expensive than most of the other restaurants I frequent and certainly nowhere was it worth the cost. I am sorry, folks, but this is one restaurant I cannot recommend.
Food as always excellent! Service just right. Portions seem on the small side but when eaten are just right.
My husband and I had just a light lunch but would definitely visit again, maybe for an evening meal or Sunday lunch. It was excellent.
Very good Sunday lunch , not rushed , good friendly service, will definitely return
We booked in here for our anniversary meal as my wife doesn't eat meat and we both enjoy good fish. We were not disappointed as every course was superb, as was the service. It wasn't cheap, but it was excellent value for money. We will return when next in the area.
We went to the restaurant for the seafood dishes and were delighted with the range on offer. We both had the Hake, unusually served on a bed of houmous and roast vegetables which worked really well. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Very good food & service, pleaent surroundings & ambenience
