Excellent dinner. The restaurant is fairly small and a bit crowded but the food was well above expectations. Price was reasonable for food and wine. Do not be put off by the outside of this restaurant or the oddly confusing menu in the window. The menu at the table has very good selection.
The food, as always was excellent. It’s one of our favourite restaurants to visit and is equally as fantastic at lunch time. It really is a gem in Wells and we can’t remember what we did before it opened. The bread and hummus is fantastic and everybody enjoyed everything they ate. The puddings and cakes they do are always outstanding. We had a very noisy table in the main dining area with us, and it was a shame our table wasn’t out by the kitchen, even though we had booked ahead and we were celebrating my daughters birthday. The main dining room is a little bit cold, but nothing a jacket didn’t sort out. Like I said, the food is of outstanding quality, and everybody ate everything.
We were given a table right at the back tucked away in a corridor beyond the main restaurant. My advice would be to ask for your table to be in the front restaurant which is light and airy although the tables are very close together. Our waiter seemed appalled when I asked for chips to go with my 13-year-old son’s meal. They apparently ‘don’t do chips’ I sensed I’d really offended the waiter for even asking. Saying that, The food itself was excellent and had we been sitting in the main restaurant and had we not asked for chips perhaps we would have had a better dining experience .
Very good food and service. Authentic French cuisine. Excellent wines.
Great atmosphere, Delicious food and professional service. Scallop dish to die for and perfectly coocked Lamb 😋
I booked for a Birthday celebration plus pre-'Mothering Sunday' visit. All 4 of us enjoyed a lovely hot meal, choice of drinks, sweet plus good care & service. If there was anything that I would like added it would be some handrails & 'drop down' rail to assist those with disabilities in the toilet.
Delicious food - good buzz in the restaurant. I was seated at the door through which the food was brought and at times it was chilly - a minor quibble though as everything else was perfect - will definitely visit regularly
Best meal we've had for ages!! We were staying in Wells for pnly two days and booked lunch for our first day based on other recommendations. Food was absolutely great and not only was the service good but obviously a number of those lunching were regulars with some of whom we had short amiable chats - we regualrly dine in restaurants nut virtually never get into conversation with anyone. But this was a very pleasant change,we assume not only due to the ambience but also the happiness derived from eating such grest food at such reasonable prices.
Excellent food as always. Good atmosphere and good service. You won't find a netter restaurant in the area.
As always, a lovely evening with wonderful food, excellent service and I learn something new about wine every time I visit.
Reports of Goodfellows were encouraging on TA so decided to book. Excellent two course fish lunch with glass of white wine. Will definitely return on our next visit to Wells.
Fine dining in a casual atmosphere at its best. The 5 course tasting menu for £50 per person was outstanding and value for money. Service was excellent, and we were offered delicious bread all through our dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Very cold - in terms of actual room temperature, service and ambiance!
Very unwelcoming hosts.
Lack luster service and food.
Save your money - it's not cheap and it's not worth it!
Excellent quality of ingredients and a menu that was creative and brilliant.
We have eaten in Goodfellows on a number of occasions and it never fails to please. On this occasion we had friends visiting from London and we all enjoyed our food. My friend remarked that the food would stand up to anything he had eaten in London. We shall return!
I have been here several times and always enjoy the food. It is particularly good for fresh fish, beautifully cooked to preserve the texture and flavour. The patisseries are also notable!
The atmosphere is intimate and personal. If you sit in the rear of the restaurant, you can observe the food as it is passed through for serving, which adds to the excitement.
The staff are very polite and friendly.
Location-wise, it is excellently placed for central Wells but not at all noisy or affected by the busy market.
Absolutely superb in every way. Top class cooking, fabulous presentation, with delightful service.
A weekday spur-of-the-moment lunch for me and my partner. A lovely welcome, even though we had not eaten there for 6 months. Small menu with a number "light dishes" but we both chose a main course - scallops and 4-fish - both of which were utterly delicious and well-presented. All in all, Goodfellows hit the button, yet again.
Great food, fantastically cooked from fine ingredients. So lucky to have such excellent French cuisine in Wells. Bistro accommodation is a bit cramped, but the food more than makes up for it.
Usually excellent but on this occasion disappointing. Cold with no heating, no ambiance. Only three tables occupied. Service good . Menu choice not as good as usual.
A birthday celebration. Wonderful inventive food and prompt friendly service. We loved the accent on fish with an Asian influence. Will definitely book again.
Excellent quality food with personal service. Will definitely return.
We celebrated Christmas Eve here. The fixed course dinner were wonderful, including non meat options.
Food and service is excellent. My Pheasant was exceptional and my husband had confit of duck, lovely, thoroughly recommend this restaurant. If it was nearer to us we would use more often.
Took friends for a pre Christmas get together and all were well impressed with their meal. The scallops were excellent and the duck just fell off the bone, very tender and tasty sauce. We always enjoy our visits to this restaurant.
This restaurant has been our first choice for special occasions or spirit-lifting for several years. The food is always outstanding. Adam's cooking is exceptional & the best for miles around, in our opinion. Flavours are beautifully balanced, seasoning perfect, portions satisfying but not too large, presentation exquisite. Service is generally excellent. We always leave feeling much better than when we arrived & that, good though home cooking is, we couldn't have achieved that level of cuisine at home so it is worth paying for.
A little gem of a restaurant tucked away in Sadler Street, only a few yards from Wells Cathedral. Small but well put together menu which changes according to what is available, and beautifully presented food. My Brixham crab and pan fried scallops were delicious and perfectly cooked. The wine we had with our meal was good too. Front of house staff are French and their service is impeccable. The chef is English and very accommodating - when we were there a visiting party had many questions and wanted food not on the menu - the chef came out of the kitchen and discussed everything extremely patiently, offering to cook something completely different for them.
£11 is great value for lunch - light main course, glass of wine and delicious dessert. Group of us from work in the city centre - we didn't want the 'Xmas' works of crackers and hats so was great. Nice efficient service so we were in and out in just over an hour.
Not the first visit and as always fantastic food in relaxed surroundings. Bit pricey but well worth it. Will certainly return again
your food is excellent will be back just a pity to be sat at the back near the serving hatch
but it was a busy day Many thanks
Superb food absolutely beautifully served and marvellous money. Really top class and most enjoyable.
Excellent service, very friendly and helpful but not overbearing. Excellent food, a choice of 3 menus, typically each with 3 choices per course, all we had was interesting and vey well cooked.
A great place with outstanding service. Food excellent - freshly cooked to order. Good atmosphere.
Once again wonderful food with great presentation and service. Thoroughly recommend.
Dined with friends on a weekend break. Superb food, very well presented.
Relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, especially for special occasions. Quality food and service, exactly as we expected. Well worth a visit!
My friend and I visited for lunch recently. The food was sublime, flavours deep and delicious - all executed with a deft and skilled touch. If you’ve heard good reports of Goodfellows, my advice is to book a table SOON! You will not be disappointed.
Fabulous food and service, fantastic for my parents wedding anniversary treat.
Already booked to go back again.
Goodfellows excels at outstanding food at reasonable prices. We thought the pan fried scallops with wild mushrooms, carrot and star anise puree with truffle dressing was exceptional, and the starter of Brixham crab with won ton pastry and soy vinaigrette was also very fine. Overall the restaurant manages to combine brilliant flavours with assured presentation.
