Had an absolute blast here! Just one man working the whole floor, including the front, but he was just fantastic. Had my boyfriend and I in stitches the whole night! Plus the food was incredible-we each had seafood dishes and agreed the prawns were the biggest we’d ever seen. A litre of the house red was the perfect compliment to the meal. They even humored our order of garlic bread as a dessert (which was a great idea-the bread was light and just the right amount of buttery). All in all, highly recommend this spot for a fun and delicious meal
Love this place, been twice this week while up in Edinburgh,. Food is excellent, staff friendly and helpful.
The atmosphere was great for kids and the service was good (if a little over-powering). The food however was not good at all. Cooked ok, looked ok but tasted of next to nothing. The garlic bread didn't taste at all of garlic, the pasta was bland, as was the pizza. We will happily pay £200 for a good meal but pay £120 for extremely bland food we do not or will not again i'm afraid.
Very helpful waiter.
Food arrived promptly.
Calizone pizza - far too much, very chewy, cheese. Unpalatable. Lots of waste.
Great night, booked this on chance for a group of colleagues, but will definately be back. Great food. Great service.
Amazing service from Gary. Nothing was to much trouble. The food was outstanding. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for making such an effort.
Great experience! Owner was very friendly and made our dinner great!
Restaurant is tired. Our table was next to a cold draft. The food was just fine, but very expensive. We later found we could have had the set lunch at The Witchery for less per head than our two shared starters, pizza and soft drink each. For the price they need to have a good look at their offering and take more care particularly over cooking and presentation. The place needs a redecorate and much more ambience. Not at all Italian. None of the staff were, though they were friendly and attentive.
The food was exceptional and the service was top notch
Staff really friendly and attentive; good for kids; scrummy food - think I ordered too much!
Beautifully cooked authentic Italian food served by friendly, efficient and caring staff. Bread and pizza dough is stunning, Lasagne is best ever.
Recently visited with my husband and our friends. The service was so personable. The waiter offered alternatives and recommendations to ensure we had the best experience possible. The food was incredible and all the staff were very friendly.
This would be one of Edinburgh's Hidden Gems except that it is hidden in plain sight on the Royal Mile!
Definitely worth a visit.
The food was very good but very expensive and there was no ambiance, know better Italians in Edinburgh.
We probably had our best meal of our stay in Edinburgh at this restaurant. It has an unassuming front, tucked away on the Royal Mile. The restaurant is owned by Italians, and the food is very authentic. The lasagna, homemade, was probably the best we can remember eating anywhere. The hostess was quite pleasant and made us feel comfortable. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
Wonderful meal. Great service. Great food. People around us were very complimentary about their meals to the hostess as well.
My family's favourite Italian restaurant in Edinburgh
This was our third visit over the last three years. We were in Edinburgh to visit the university my daughter is thinking of applying too. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. Highly recommend.
The gnocchi and zuppa di pesce were amazing. The staff were both warm and welcoming with a great sense of pride for their food. They made my wife's 40th birthday special. Thank you Gordon's.
A long rather dreary room with an atmosphere of stale air. We would not have stayed if we hadn't booked. Having said that, the meals arrived promptly and my wife and daughter enjoyed their ravioli. I found the penne pollo pasta very bitter. Expensive for what we had, but perhaps that's because it is on the Royal Mile?
We have eaten at Gordans Trattoria many times over the last twenty plus years and have always found the food and friendliness to be of the highest order.
Fabulous staff and excellent food with a superb location. Would highly recommend.
Meat in the pasta had terrible taste. Moreover, I had to ask to warm up my lasagna cause it was clear they just put it in the microwave and the button was cold. When it came back it was again cold after the first bite.
Nevertheless I have to say the manager was super nice.
Our Canadian family was over for a visit and we had a great time. Friendly staff and lovely food.
The moment we walk in the staff were very pleasant and helpful food was excellent and wine was devine didn't get rushed overall very pleasant and would recommend this lovely little places.
We have dinned on a few occasions in the pass but noticed a deterioration in menu choice.
Also decor is needing revamp including outside Toilets were in need of cleaning. The food was good but way overpriced. As we sat out for desert we noticed a lot of people at the outside menu. The comments were on pricing and we noticed a lot of people not coming in due to this fact. I do understand the location is prime but towards the center of the city the food is superior and less pricey and also still staying within the Tourist area.
Lovely food, friendly service and accommodated me at short notice.
Very much enjoyed our dinner at the trattoria.
Our only complaint was that it was a little noisy, with instructions to staff being shouted across the room!
The food was delicious and the staff waiting on us were calm and professional. Likewise the chefs, who we could see working so hard.
My mother and I enjoyed Gordon's Trattoria when we first visited Edinburgh back in 2012 and had to come again. Service is fantastic and people working there lovely. Will come again!
Warm and welcoming service. Meal was flavorful, especially my pasta dish. Was our last dinner in Edinburgh before heading home to the U.S., so glad we had such a positive experience.
Tired of Scottish food, we were looking for something different and we found it at Gordon's. The service was prompt and the food was very tasty, two things not often found in combination in Scotland. Definitely a great choice if you need a break from potatoes and haggis.
Great meal at Gordon's Trattoria located on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. The food was excellent and the service that we received was phenomenal! We would definitely return here if we're in Edinburgh again!
The food was very ordinary. I have had much better pizza at Italian chains. The cost of a beer, £4.90 for a 330cl bottle, is frankly an outrageous ripoff. There are good vfm restaurants on and around the Royal Mile. This is not one of them. Go somewhere else.
My girlfriend and I had dinner here for our anniversary. Food was great (though their "gelato" is just ice-cream, don't be fooled), lots of good flavours and, in our experience, good value for money. Music was really good, they like their classics and some of our favourite songs just happened to come on. Only two real complaints. 1) When I booked the table online I told them it was for our anniversary, when we got there they sat us near the back of the restaurant which was empty so it was nice for us, but then started seating people right next to us which did spoil the mood a little. 2) Only a small thing but we had to ask for the bill three times before we got it, though to be fair it was busy by that time. Otherwise we had a lovely time, and would go again for sure!
Arrived at the restaurant on time for our table. Were then shown to our table and then ignored for next 20 minutes. Not even offered a drink. Table next to us offered drinks twice in this time. Another table arrived and was seated offered drinks and was about to have their food order taken, at this point on one had yet even acknowledged our presence so we left for another restaurant
Excellent Lasagna in a wonderful location. We really enjoyed it.
Thank you to Gordon's brother for allowing us to eat at the restaurant considering we were 15 minutes late because our plane was delayed for an hour. He was very hospitable, charming and very attentive. We didn't have to wait very long for our food. The food was excellent, tasty and good portions as well. It was the best meal and restaurant that made us feel welcomed for our first visit in Scotland as we celebrated a birthday. You won't be disappointed with food or the service. Don't miss out. It's a wonderful restaurant. Paulina was also a very friendly server as well.
A family owned trattoria since 1982. Fabulous food, some of the very best Italian dishes ever experienced. Great service, very helpful, friendly and personable. Highly recommended.
Excellent customer service from start to finish. Helpful without being too helpful! The the buffalo mozzarella for starters was beautiful!
We arrived at 6pm and the staff were very friendly and joking around ahead of the busy time (starts about 8pm). It's a lively Royal Mile restaurant and music can be a tad loud, but they turned it down when we remarked on it. The antipasto board was a lovely selection and plenty of fish and quality seafood in the mains we chose, excellent taste, good to see the chefs at work. A great anniversary evening, thanks.
