The food was good, but not great. The service was very good. It's okay for pre-theatre dining, but I think the price is high for what's on offer
We visited Gran Paradiso lunchtime on 19-6-14.We were initially surprised to find how empty and quiet it was. However, this did not detract but perhaps enhanced the superp service we were about to receive. Our starters of prawns in a chilli and mushroom sauce was delicious. Our main courses were Halibut and Seabass. The Halibut was a generous portion with saute potatoes and veg to match. With fresh raspberries and mango for sweet, all washed down with a good housewine, it was indeed a marvellous lunchtime treat to be recommended.
We had a wonderful evening dinner following seeing a show. Mum and 3 daughters. Lovely
Another enjoyable evening in this wonderful family run restaurant - everything about this restaurant makes for a pleasant and delicious dining experience - from the wonderful olives and bread to the wine, but the food is the real star whatever you choose from the menu.
Pleasant atmosphere and the staff were charming to our ( well behaved) ten year old. However food was average - standard fare. Extras - (bread / water) pricey. Pleased to have a round table.
I thought the food was excellent - I had the lamb chops and my husband had the liver and we both felt we had never had such tender and tasty meat before. My 2 sons were also very impressed. Because we went early 5.30 pm as a pre theatre dinner it was a little lacking in atmosphere (we were the only ones in there for the first half hour).
Service was ok but not overwhelmingly good. Perfectly pleasant but not the typical exuberant Italians.
I wanted spinach instead of beans in the chefs special vegetable platter and this was not possible which I thought was a bit strange as spinach was available as a vegetable.
They were very pleasant about us bringing in a birthday cake and provided a song a cake.
We had travelled from the north west and had booked the table on line, we where not disappointed . We wanted a meal prior to the theatre so we booked a table for 5.30 and we had a truly relaxed and delicious meal. I would recommend this restaurant as a pre theatre venue or just for an evening meal in relaxed surroundings. The price of the food and wine was very good.
Excellently positioned minutes from Victoria, I love this place. Food is reasonably priced and delicious. They even do gluten-free pasta which is not that common. It's a great place for business or pleasure and consistent in quality. Service is never with a smile but is perfectly adequate, just don't expect charm or outwardly friendly staff.
The starters and sides were very good, but the mains were average. We ordered the veal chop and the halibut and both were somewhat overcooked. Nice atmosphere though.
Two of us came here last weekend. We both had a starter and a main course but no puddings and no alcohol as neither of us drinks. The bill came to £81 which I thought was very steep for what we had and much more expensive than this place used to be. The owner (I think he was the owner) took our order but forgot one of the vegetables. When our main courses arrived without it and we pointed this out, he was very off-hand and not in the least apologetic. A replacement vegetable was quickly rustled up but it was stone cold; it had clearly been cooked earlier and not reheated. My main course was delicious but overall I was not entirely satisfied.
Very unlike the usual Italian restaurant. Staff and maître d far from happy. Service slow and food below expectations.
Would not return or recommend.
I revisited Gran Paradiso for lunch after an absence of many years and my only regret was that I had not come back sooner. We were made welcome, had a great table in plenty of space, the service was attentive but never intrusive, the food was first rate and the whole experience was wonderful.
Prompt friendly service, nice atmosphere and reasonable value for money
We only had a main so didn't sample much of the menu but the daily specials we had were
The proprietors of Gran Paradiso welcome you like a long lost relative every time you return. The food is prepared with much tender loving care and is 'to die for' delicious!
The service is warm and friendly, the ambience cosy but sophisticated.
My second visit and just as good as last time round. Arrived before our booked time and given seat by the window. Service was again excellent and, although many other diners kept arriving, the timing of our various courses was perfect. Food was again also topnotch with the housewine a fine accompaniment. Will be back.
The Gran Paradiso is an established Italian restaurant where I last dined at well over twenty years ago! It was good to see that the owners continue to be exceptionally friendly and go out of their way to make sure their customers feel welcome. The soft ambience is attributed to the candle light and traditional décor.
The menu is imaginative and has something to suit all tastes. This evening we had a combination of sea bass, halibut and lobster that was exquisite and cooked to perfection with good flavours accompanied with rosemary potatoes. The head waiter was a charming man and made time for us although the restaurant was very busy. This is a delightful restaurant where an enjoyable intimate evening is guaranteed. Highly Recommended!
This long-established Italian restaurant is a firm favourite among locals for its good cooking and reasonable prices. The menu is traditional rather than innovative but none the worse for that. My prosciutto with figs was particularly nice and the friend I dined with had high praise for the halibut.
An excellent meal, good service and a good wine list
A wonderful Friday evening meal for 4 slightly spoiled by the rather stand-offish attitude of some of the waiting staff! The very warm and friendly welcome from the proprietor should have been followed with a similar attitude by all his staff - to ensure a really enjoyable dining experience. Delicious fish 'specials' and calves liver. Just a little bit expensive perhaps, but compensated by very generous complimentary post meal drinks!
This was a first visit but we will definitely return. The food was very nice, good service and a good selection of wines.
booked pre-theatre meal, and found the staff attentive but not pushy..plenty of choices on the menu, and the food was excellent..decor was nice and sub-dued . prices were in keeping with London, but bear in mind they add 10% onto the bill, although you did not have to pay this
Nice ambience in the window seating area of this restaurant. The three of us thought the menu and food was fine, nothing that special but certainly cooked well. Service seemed confused - one waiter helping for one thing but couldn't seem to take our orders, another seemed to be the only person taking main course orders, another delivering food etc. It seemed a popular choice with those wanting more traditional Italian food than perhaps we were looking for.
Lovely setting and very good service but I thought the food was rather disappointing. I don't think I will be going back...
As always the food is great! I am a flight attendant so in 2 out of 4 times flying to London when London is my schedule. I eat there. I usually take a group of flight attendants, pilots and gate agents there 2 or 3 times a year, they also return to enjoy the food and bring their own friends and business associates. I personally love the place and I am willing to pay a bit more for the food and the atmosphere. I feel as if I am in a family restaraunt in Italy rather than a family place in London.
This is a very good classic Italian London restaurant, they even serve vegetables with two spoons from a tin tray. The food is uncomplicated but very well made and at reasonable prices. I could eat there every day...
Had a dinner at Gran Paradiso with a friend. The menu features some Italian dishes as well as steak and other traditional British food. The food was nice but not outstanding and because of that £120 for 2 courses and a bottle of house white seemed steep. When we were leaving the waters lost interest in us so we had to fetch our own coats from the cloak room which did not have lights.
We have been coming to this restaurant for over 30 years - it never changes, the menu is still the same and it was fantastic then and it is now.
We ate early and I was rather surprised to see how full the restaurant was by 6.30 pm. I chose the roast partridge special and the way of serving it - with no vegetablesa other than a few mushrooms and no sauce - was not to my taste but otherwise the food was just as expected: standard Italian dishes done well. You will not find modern European cuisine (whatever that phrase really means) at Gran Paradiso The service was below par, however, and I had to ask several times for drinks, the menu and the bill.
The bill at just shy of £150 was more than I expected for a party of five two of whom were children given that we had only two courses each and two half bottles of wine between us - maybe it was the partridge inflating the cost.
Everything was very special for our special celebration
Asked for fegato salvia not with the onions- produced in minutes with a smile- perfectly cooked too
The restaurant has a real Italian "feel" in a convenient place in London. The menu is varied and the taste authentic Italian cooking simple and straightforward. It has charm.
A really enjoyable meal that could have made for an excellent dining experience had the waiting staff been more friendly and attentive. Without exception we all gave high praise for the food quality; superb antipasta misto (plenty of choice, and enough for two to share) and a spectacular fried fish main course stood out amongst the other fine dishes served to our group of five. Would certainly highly recommend and will return - hoping that we were just unlucky with some of the waiting staff on this occasion.
Had a lovely dinner in a very nice restaurant in Victoria. Staff were friendly and the food was very good.
Had a mid- week dinner at Gran Paradiso, the food was ok, the service was a little slow and not massively friendly and on the whole it felt like the restaurant was getting a bit tired. A bit of a shame!
i personally struggle with italian restaurants as i have spent time in italy. this restaurant is a gem. it is an old style italian restaurant, we went with two friends and none of us had any complaints. my ravioli was home made and the calves liver with sage was as i remember.
I've been coming to Gran Paradiso on an occasional basis for more than 25 years. It's one of my favourite restaurants, run by a delightful couple who have created a real family ambience. Try the mushroom starter.
We have been regular diners at Gran Paradiso for many years and the standard has never faltered. The food is first class, the service faultless. The portions are generous and the quality superb. Wonderful carpaccio and prawns followed by juicy steaks. Perfect!
We had the pleasure of enjoying a really wonderful meal at Gran Paradiso (VIctoria - London) again on Tuesday evening. What a delight to dine in such a lovely family-run restaurant and to eat food of the highest standard with excellent service. We both had the 'special' spinach ravioli to start with followed by the signature dish of fillet steak with mushrooms in a cream sauce - it was perfect. Thank you so much for a very special dining experience.
Excellent food with good unobtrusive service.
Especially good fish today
