The best view in San Francisco, gourmet vegetarian food, great service. I have loved Green's Restaurant since moving to San Francisco in 1982!
Had our first in-person/indoors restaurant meal during pandemic.
Felt safe - restaurant clean, tables nicely separated. Food, wine, service and view were all excellent!
As always mostly great food and excellent service. The special salad had mostly very thick stiff greens that were neither tasty or easily chewed. Would of been better with baby spinach or another leafy green.
Greens never disappoints! The room is one of the most beautiful but understated venues in San Francisco. The tables are all reclaimed wood with a spectacular, huge piece of burl at one end. The wall of windows and high ceiling give the room an airy light filled ambience. The views of the marina and the Golden Gate Bridge are stunning.
The food is vegetable centric, but not vegan, even meat eaters will find something satisfying. The flavors are complex and interesting without being overwhelming. Everything is fresh and thoughtfully made. The pizza is one of my favorites as are the soups.
With the current virus rules, the tables are spread more apart with fewer people, so the room is quieter than I remember from a year+ ago. When capacity limitations end, it will be noisier because of all the hard surfaces, but not too noisy.
Honestly, we were really disappointed. As new SF transplants, we’ve been so excited to try Greens and were saving it for a special occasion. We finally had a reason to go enjoy a fancy, no-holds-barred all veggie meal! I surprised my partner with it, thinking it would be the perfect chance to celebrate our recent life milestone. While we got a table by the window, which was lovely, the rest of the experience was very disappointing. It seems our one corner table didn’t have a server assigned, but instead a host or floor manager was responsible for us. It took 15 minutes of sitting to get water or order a drink, and then the rest of the meal we could barely flag anyone down. Servers whipped around the other tables around us, and once or twice we were able to flag them, but ultimately we were forgotten to the point where we couldn’t get a water refill or order second drinks. The poor service was compounded by disappointing food. We order two apps and two main courses, and truthfully only the hummus was tasty. The risotto cakes had little flavor and tasted like McDonalds hash browns, and the food overall was way too heavily salted. We couldn’t finish our tagine dish due to the saltiness. I know the idea of Greens is to make guests forget about meat during the dining experience, but as a vegetarian for over 15 years, I can attest that there are so many flavors and spices to use to make vegetables delicious! It felt like Greens relied entirely on salt and not much else. The place is pricy and we were quite deflated after the experience. Hoping the service and food are only a temporary symptom of Covid transition and not representative of overall quality. We’ll keep an eye on reviews and maybe try it again in a year or two in case it was a fluke.
Lovely place and atmosphere. Wonderful food. Would definitely come back.
What’s not to love about Green’s?? Always a fantastic experience.
Service was fast and friendly, no denying the view is spectacular and if I had any criticism I would say the decor needs some serious elevating so that it matches the view, prices, location, and great food.
No Question the food was Great !
I took three friends who were visiting to brunch, and it was their first visit to Greens, and they were delighted. The food was exquisite, and they thoroughly enjoyed the appetizers, entrees, coffees and dessert. Every item is a joy and delight. I took a friend to brunch for a celebration and we both enjoyed appetizers, entree, dessert and drinks - truly enjoyable. The ambience, of course is wonderful - great seating arrangments gazing out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the sailboats on their docks and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance - truly a joy. I don't know if the restaurant is currently understaffed, but the service was poor - no one bothered to replenish the water bottles when they were empty.
Wonderful menu, brunch is always special, you just don’t feel you need to eat meat :)
wonderful setting and scrumptious food.
the best staff in the world!
We always loved coming here before the pandemic, and were very excited that indoor dining opened up again.
The food is always superb. This time was no exception. We ordered two main dishes with seemingly similar components, but they were executed so well, and had such subtle yet delicious differences that they ended up being completely different dishes. I realize this sounds odd, but if you had seen the menu you would have questioned them being distinct dishes, too.
Soup and spring rolls, too, were excellent. Exactly what you want from a warm, tasty, home style puree, and from a firm, fresh, elastic spring roll (elastic?).
Anyway, this review is weird, but the food was spectacular. Can't wait to come back again.
Dined outside. Food was amazing, service was fantastic, and atmosphere was pretty great. Given the location, it would seem wind is likely to be a routine problem and the restaurant would benefit from adding a few barriers on the ends of the outdoor dining area to minimize the wind problems (flying menus, toppling glasses, escaping napkins). Otherwise, I wouldn’t change a thing!
My first time and I was wowed!! Food is excellent and service even more!!
Wonderful service and lovely setting, but given how expensive it was, to me it would only be a place for special occasions. The caramelized carrots were wonderful. The rest of the meal was ok but as a vegan who has cooked at home for 7 years using cookbooks and on-line recipes, I expected more. My margarita tasted like lime flavored water and I was able to substitute with a glass of wine. My companion’s Manhattan was excellent,
Good food and good views. Had the patty melt and the pasta camaroni as mains. Artichoke hearts and hummus as starters. Loved the hummus. Drank the Le Pepie Muscadet which was nice and light and refreshing. Lovely venue. Great lunch. Server was really nice too.
Great setting with view of Golden Gate Bridge. Our server was a delight and expertly guided our selections. The food was fabulous. Despite having more than enough to eat we ordered desserts and both the gooey chocolate and trifle dessert were well worth it.
The Greens is always amazing!! The food is delicious, the staff is very welcoming and friendly!
Greens always reminds me there is enough to go around and the importance of food and human company and conversation. Thank you for always exceeding expectations and nurturing relationships.
Beautiful dinner! The ambiance is fantastic, the food is delicious, and the service outstanding. Highly recommend.
Really creative vegetarian menu, everything we ordered was delicious!
Loved it. As always.
My recent dinner at Greens didn’t live up to the amazing experiences I’ve had there in the past. I know they’re just ramping up post-COVID, so fingers crossed they’ll find their groove again soon.
My daughter’s 18th birthday
Great food, impeccable service, very nice night overall. Highly recommend the Coral Lentil Dal
There was an issue with their bar service - dinner drinks and after dinner coffee/tea took a long time to get to our table.
42 years in, Greens is still wonderful in all respects.
Keeps us coming back for more than thirty years, always consistent.
Excellent choice for vegetarians and especially vegans. Cuisine is imaginative and flavorfull. Service is personable and fast.
Great ambience, fantastic menu and service. Highly recommend!
We enjoyed a warm welcome and the indoor atmosphere of the restaurant with a table, as requested, next to a window overlooking the water. The food was delicious and generous. For dessert we shared a serving of meyer lemon cheese cake. It was fantastic!
Now that indoor seating has returned, we were eager to have a table along the expanse of windows that face onto Gas House Cove. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and the views of the Bay and GG Bridge were wonderful. The wine list is excellent, and food is a great value.
Went here for the first time for my birthday. Food was all incredible and we had an amazing waiter. I am vegan and the selection of options was great. I will definitely come back again.
Marvelous and inventive menu, as always, and superb service!
Greens never disappoints. It was a privilege to return to the interior of the restaurant and consume a delicious repast with 3 friends. Service was perfect and all menu items chosen were delicious. It was the first tie I had been able to order a cocktail in the restaurant. A welcome addition to one who remembers strict wine consumption orders when Greens began in the '70's.
Amazing food. Great recommendations from a very helpful server. So many wonderful layers of flavors in everything we ordered. Great experience. Will be back!
We last ate at Greens many years ago, and it hasn't changed much. Wait staff were great, and of course the views are amazing. Food was mixed. Soup was really good, as were the dinner rolls (from their bakery of course!!), but the rest of the meal was just ok. We had hoped for a much higher level of cookery (and flavors), but we felt a bit disappointed. I will say that the lemon cheesecake dessert was truly amazing, so the meal ended well.
All in all, I'd say we enjoyed ourselves, but doubt we'll rush back.
Risotto cakes were delicious! I also had a very silky and tasty beet soup--not overwhelming beet flavor, but well blended and fantastic. Colors of these items really made a wonderful presentation.
I've been eating at Greens since it opened in 1979. I live in Alaska these days, but when I visit family I make it a point that we have at least one meal at Greens. This occasion did not disappoint. Our lunch was a delightful experience. Our food was beautiful and flavorful. The service lovely and the view is terrific. Thanks Greens for making my birthday lunch one to remember!
Sunday Brunch with a menu of options. Good food, pleasant service.
