Our favourite place to go for a meal in york. Service and food always highest quality. The covid safety measures are second to none. Standards of cleanliness always fantastic. Great atmosphere and surroundings. Only slight niggle for me was i paid almost as much for a lime and lemonade as my husband did for a pint of beer (around the £4 mark) which i felt was a bit unreasonable. It was a large glass, however i did not want nor ask for a large glass and wasnt given the option, and even at that i feel it is still too much. Will continue to return again and again.

Wonderful meal for a family birthday. Food was delicious, a great menu choice and service was welcoming and outstanding.

The restaurant has bags of character and the outside courtyard is steeped in history.

It’s both a special occasion and everyday dining inn as it has a few rooms. A formal dining room where we ate but also a snug and bar area. Really fab interior and atmosphere.

We’ll be back for sure.

Amazing food (we got the roast beef dinner & beef burger) and such a lovely cosy environment, was perfect for a Sunday afternoon date for my Boyfriend and I.

Lovely bar and food was very nice. A little pricey especially for deserts, Temperature checking at door seemed pointless when tables very close together. Staff very friendly and polite.

My partner & I booked this place a month ago.
Knew it must be great as spaces were very limited.
The food is outstanding and the staff are so kind and helpful.
Great building full of character.

Great food , i had steak pie and my wife had fish and chip which was massive. Right in the centre of York next to the Cathedral.

We had a lovely meal , the ambience was beautiful despite having the restaurant to ourselves. The food and service was excellent , also two menus to choose from .

Nice place let down severely by the uncomfortable bigotry from Mike from behind the bar with the tattoos. Made to feel very uncomfortable by this mans prejudice attitude!

Nice place ruined by the ‘homophobic’ bartender ‘Michael Boag’ Mike for short with the tattoos. Happy to disrespect myself and my family.

Enjoyed the meal at the Guy Fawkes although the choice of main courses was rather limited. Variety of nice beers to choose for real ale followers. Excellent service and lovely ambience. Would consider it again if I visit the lovely old town of York within the walls - which is fantastic..

Such a lovely hidden spot from the outside but so cosy and romantic on the inside. Ideal for date night! The staff were lovely and super friendly and genuinely keen to make your time there the best it can be. Will be back!

Really top notch food especially the steak pie and creme brulee. Great ambiance and pleasant staff, nice touches like properly chilled water. |The overall experience was ruined somewhat by a god awful halloween music mix playing intrusively, but I guess pop mixes with spooky themes come but once a year.

Restaurant has lots of character, my only very slight criticism is perhaps a little too dark.

We had the Guy Fawkes steak pie. It was amazing. Best pie I've had anywhere. Will definitely be returning.

Lovely Sunday Roast - gravy, vegetables etc except the actual beef which was on the thick side and chewy - and the knife was not sharp enough. There also no Horseradish sauce available. A shame because everything was lovely - very nice ambience.
