Would have been a better review but two children messing around on next table and playing videos on phone at full volume spoiled it.

Quaint, cosy, friendly with a lovely ambience and outstanding service.

We went for Sunday lunch and had a wonderful starter/nibbles of honey glazed sausages and bread with balsamic oil and hummus.

The roasts were perfectly cooked and the vegetarian option was delicious.

A great, relaxed pub, with high quality food.

The food was very average. One of us ordered fish and chips, which was good but the other had roast chicken which wasn't roast at all. It was a herby griddled chicken breast. The vegetable accompaniment was best part of the roast. We had sticky toffee pudding which tasted okay, but only lukewarm. The staff and service were faultless, it was just slightly disappointing food.

This is our local and one of our go-to places for a drink over the weekend and the occasional Sunday lunch. We love the cosy authentic atmosphere of the space and the food is very good of its kind. The only thing I would change is the nut roast, it tasted a little too much of a basic stuffing and would benefit from more character. Best Yorkshires ever though!

Everything was absolutely delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection, the courses came out perfectly timed and it just ran like clockwork. The service was second to none. Our server had a comprehensive knowledge of the drinks available and was attentive throughout, with drinks refreshed before being asked and any requests dealt with promptly. The decor is beautiful, very 'olde-worldy' which we love, and just the right level of lighting. It was a little noisy at times - the restaurant is adjoining a busy bar area - but it wasn't overpowering our conversation. To give you some idea of how highly we rate it we live roughly two hours of motorway driving from the restaurant and we are going to try to get back at least once a month.

The food and service was amazing. Will return. Can highly recommend the pie and the fish and chips. They even adjusted the portion size of fish and chips to suit a younger diner. Very impressed.

We went here to celebrate a birthday the food was lovely we noticed that people who sat outside had blankets which was a nice touch. Service was good especially our waitress however the guy who showed us to our table could have been a bit more amicable. Overall a good experience

Absolutely fantastic, the only slight criticism was that the burger was too salty, I have had it in the past and it was perfect then so I suspect it must have just been a slip by the chef, my partner says it was the best Sunday roast he has ever had

My roast beef like shoe leather, wife's meat totally inedible. Wife's meat replaced but not vegetables which were stone cold. I had already finished my meal so I complained and waitress said would get fresh vegetables - at that point we got up and left.

Booked in the public bar after booking a room for valentines, food was superb
Lovely waitress, explained all the dishes when asked, recommend the bits & bobs starter, we’re now looking for caperberries 😂 followed by the duck (gawjus)
Lovely starter, lovely mains too full to have desert but coming back just to try it
lovely weekend experience perfect location in York. Highly recommend their gin of the day coming back ASAP

Usually love the food but my fish and chips were greasy and the chips dark brown. I call it old fashioned 59’s fish and chips.

A small piece of lightly battered fish with golden, freshly cooked chips and minted peas and freshly made tatare sauce becomes a gourmet meal. Just charge more?

I left most of imy meal as dark brown frying is linked to carcigens.

My friends meal was perfect ( sausage and mash) and the staff are charming and professional and made it a great experience.

Celebrated our 40th Valentine's at Guy Fawkes - the room overlooking the minster was fab! Brought a little tear! Our meal was lovely, I chose steak, my husband chose the belly pork, deserts was great too, compliments to the chef! Service was excellent (girl from Wakefield) definitely recommend and will be going back. The breakfast was lovely too

Had the most amazing food here and the service was excellent.
The only downfall was no music playing in the room we were sat...It was Valentines!
Love this pub though and have been a fair few times and have spoken highly of the place.
Cheers Guy Fawkes!!!

First off the staff are the selling point they are so friendly and know their products and importance of standards.

We couldn't pick a starter so had them all with "bits and bobs" option.

The steak wasn't the cheapest sirloin I've had but it was probably the best steak I've had in memory.

A wonderful dining experience. We took the in-laws out for a thank you dinner and everyone was suitable impressed by the menu. I had the Guy Fawkes Money Bags, the Honey Roasted Duck and Sticky Toffee Pudding; everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was friendly and prompt, although familiarity with specific menu items could be improved. The dining area was well decorated, although the table was too small for the chairs, which meant we couldn't move as close to the table to eat as we would have liked. I would definitely recommend this for a special occasion or date night location.

We were seated quickly and offered/served drinks by the friendly waiter assigned to us. The room was really dark, low lighting and black walls. It was too dark to see properly though we were sat in a corner where there was no light. The a wait for food but when it arrived it was presented nicely and was hot. We had the roast beef dinner and a burger. The beef dinner was lovely, though the mashed potatoes seemed a little processed. The burger wasn't particularly tasty. There was a long wait after receiving the dessert menu so we decided to get the bill and go.
