Guy Fawkes Inn
Friday - Saturday (12pm - 9.30pm)
Sunday (12pm - 8pm)
Booked a table for our visit to york Xmas market.
Good bar and atmosphere friendly staff.
Restaraunt not as nice as expected food was good.
Gents Toilets poor very small and full of the mothball things.....
Ordered rump received sirloin so charged £10 more and service charge added to bill.
Good pub not a resteraunt for me.
fantastic food, fantastic service, fantastic staff this place I can not recommend enough it was brilliant
My wife and I holiday in York each December and have dined in many of the city's fine restaurants over the years. However we had not dined at The Guy Fawkes Inn until last Wednesday evening and I am pleased to say that it was the best dining experience we have had to date in York. The welcome, service and food were all outstanding. The 'Money Bags' starter (goats cheese and caramelized onion parcels) was absolutely delicious as was the calves liver main (which was cooked to perfection). My wife decided on some comfort food and chose beer battered haddock and chips which was outstanding.
On top of all this, the house Tempranillo was exceptionally good for its price.
Really looking forward to our next visit!
Not the first time for me. But I booked a trip to York with my colleagues. They all loved it great staff great food they will be back and I'll be back sooner.
Lovely staff, yummy Sunday roast dinner, too full to eat dessert. Will come again.
Excellent food, great ambiance. Would recommend to friends and family
Loverly service from dan our waiter loverly food would come back again
Being a big fan of York and visiting annually I must say this has been the best dining experience to date. Everything about the experience was exceptional. Staff were friendly and timings on service was perfect. Ambiance was amazing and went perfectly with the setting and environment. The food was out of this world and all 3 courses were amazing. I would 100% recommend dining or even having a drink here. We will certainly be coming back.
The food was amazing, the staff really friendly & helpful. Wine excellent quality & fabulous value. Highly recommended.
Guy Fawkes for us was absolutely wonderful. We were staying in York for a few days for our moms 80rh birthday, we booked a meal in there the day after her birthday. We were in awe of everything in this lovely cosy pub. Full of ambience, lots of character brilliant food friendly staff..loved everything about this place. Will be returning on our next visit to York
We had a lovely meal here on Saturday. We were seated in a cosy, secluded area which was nice. The food was delicious and the waiter (who was also the manager and chef) was superb! His name is Daniel. He made a real fuss of us and was very friendly. Judging on the queue of people around the bar hoping to get a table shows how popular this restaurant must be. 10 out of 10!
first time visited lovely smbirnce ,lovrly attentive staff. food lovely only downdide toilet cleanliness and access disappointing
5 ladies dining & thought restaurant area had excellent service & food. Great ambiance. Very cosy. Staff were excellent. Would certainly go again & recommend to others
Made to feel very welcome here at Guy Fawkes Restaurant after a busy time round the Christmas Markets. Staff very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Mushroom soup the best we have ever had !!! Fish, chips, peas, tartare sauce, lemon wedge ...delicious ... and such good value. Unfortunately we couldn't manage a dessert...very sad about that as we're sure they would be epic too. Candle light....wonderful atmosphere ...just a perfect meal ...but remember to reserve a table ! We'll certainly be back !!
Food was very nice. Service was slow. Didn't bother with a pudding, as waited so long for order to be taken. Overpriced.
Fantastic service, friendly, historic atmosphere and outstanding food. Thouroughly enjoyed our meal. The steak pie was particularly amazing. Would highly recommend this pub.
Attentive friendly helpful staff. Excellent food. My wife has a dairy allergy and we were told most choices could be adapted no problem. We really enjoyed our experience.
We had a fantastic birthday meal and will definitely go back again
Fantastic food lovely atmosphere and great service. We had a delicious meal and a really good price too.
Lovely cosy restaurant with great service from all the staff - food was tasty and wine reasonably priced. A nice night out.
Really nice quiet meal and service was outstanding. Be aware that the gratuity is added to your food bill automatically and is not optional, which was 10% (which I have no problems with paying as it was great service and great food ) . Really enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend !
Lovely meal in an old, character-full dining room.
Surprisingly high quality food. Our starters included honey glazed sausages, goats cheese soufflé and black pudding with soft duck egg. Simply delicious.
A lovely, relaxed, good value experience
Fantastic food, was a girl training who was unsure what to do but staff seemed very helpful to her. We felt very comfortable and service was excellent
Superior pub restaurant. The main pub room has a wonderfully dark creepy atmosphere: you can feel the history. The separate restaurant is similar: all dark wood and full of atmosphere. The menu might not be extensive, but all the food was cooked well. Service was friendly but unobtrusive. Our second visit, and we'll go again. At its best on winter nights.
Arrived for a 2 night stay this afternoon, booked a table for dinner in advance. Was lucky enough to have a roast dinner which was the best I’ve ever had, service fantastic too. Can’t wait for tomorrow x
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. I'll start with the one small thing I was slightly disappointed with and that was the lack of gas lights in operation. This is because the pictures on the site made it look much more romantic with them in use. Aside from this the staff were brilliant. Very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. Weather you like it or not order the black pudding. The best I've ever tasted. The pie is also excellent. I have already recommended this venue to friends and family and would definitely come again.
The Guy Fawkes was a great place to dine the food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful.
The food was delicious, but my husband ordered gluten free and they brought a plate with battered (not gluten free) onion rings. Even though they took these away and returned with more chips, he still felt unwell after the meal, so we think there may have been something else with gluten. Also, I'm a vegetarian and there was really only one main course option for me, which I didn't fancy, so I ended up having a meal of two starters instead.
Other than that, the staff were friendly and attentive, the vibe was cosy and unique, and the food choices for non-gluten free, non-vegetarians looked good.
A pleasant sharing starter and very pleasant staff but one of the worst main courses we can remember. Supposed to be "vegetables en croute" and there were vegetables, in something related to bread, but it was not worthy of inclusion on a menu. Didn't have a pudding.
Our reserved table was very fitting with the request I made for a romantic occasion. The waitress very kindly operated my phone to video me proposing to my fiancée. The service was excellent and we were given a free glass of proseco each to celebrate our engagement. The food was lovely and we were offered sweets which were not listed on the menu as we requested a lighter option. Overall it was a wonderful experience which couldn’t have been any better.
such a nice setting food was very nice the pie is to die for very good service price was not bad plenty of choice
Lovely welcome and a nice touch at the table with a happy birthday message. Very warm and friendly service, giving us loads of ideas for what to do with the rest of our day.
Eaten here before and it has been great. This time we had Sunday Lunch
Food, service, ambience, hospitality and atmosphere exceptional.
All the staff are so friendly and helpful
Nothing is too much trouble. They all went the extra mile to make our Sunday with friends brilliant.
Well done to everyone.

The food was far better than I expected, a good selection of choices that were appropriate for all of us. We ordered an expensive bottle of wine and the waiter took a lot of care over opening and serving it. Our waitress was excellent and we had a really good laugh with her. All in all a really good experience.
Fantastic food, reasonably priced, lovely atmosphere 👍
Great food, proper fried chips, gorgeous desserts,
Lots of character around the place, loved the decor!!!
Service very good.
My husband had the pie “Best pie he’s ever tasted.” his words.
I had the fish, wasn't keen on the batter, soggy and soft, I like my batter crispy.
Nice atmospheric (a bit dark) very old building where guy fawkes was born, tasty Sunday lunch friendly attentive staff
Love eating here. Roast dinner is amazing - can’t fault it.
The food especially the pie was delicious. And although they didn't cater well for those with lactose intolerance, the waitress maid a special effort to ensure my daughter got a dessert!
