Unfortunately the pub is going through a sale and has a much reduced menu (not as shown on the the opentable website) The only veggie option was unavailable but there were a couple of options on the specials board. There was no veggie gravy or sauce with the meal and had to resort to mayo with pie and veg to get a bit of moisture. The staff were lovely and should be commended for operating in such circumstances, hopefully the new owners will note this. Shame on Hall and Woodhouse for running the pub down, reducing the menus and drinks availability, there doesn't seem to have been much consideration to the customers or staff.

Upon arrival, we were disappointed to be told that due to a company takeover, there was only a very limited menu available, unlike on previous visits. However, we all enjoyed our selected meals and the service was very good.

My niece had the burger which was very good. I had the pork chop which smelt and tasted strange. None of the staff enquired if all was good, but also I did not seek them out. When the plates were collected, mine virtually untouched except the potato, I explained. No apology or discount was offered. When the waitress smelt the pork, she pulled a face. When I checked if it had been mentioned to the management the waitress said it had and it must have been a one off that wasn't good.

Food was OK unfortunately the grill was broken so a lot of the menu was not available which did not leave much choice. Also we were sat near the bar area which would have been fine except a couple of mums were in the bar with their children running wild and being particularly loud which affected a lot of diners evening. Especially with the kids running from the bar through the restaurant to the outside area making considerable noise. Staff did not say anything to the mums or apologise to the diners even though they knew it was causing a disturbance.

I took a date to the half moon on a bank holiday Monday, after struggling to find a place serving food in the evening. As soon as we got there we were greeted by warm friendly staff who served our drinks and then took us to our table. The food arrived as quickly as freshly prepared and perfectly cooked food should do. It was flavourful and delicious. The only downside for me was the portion sizes, the were too small in my opinion. I would recommend people to go to the half moon, but it would be nice if the portion size was increased.

I have been to this pub/restaurant twice in the last couple of weeks. Once was a Sunday lunch for two and the other occasion was a family get together for 6 of us including two small children. This pub suited both occasions perfectly. Sunday lunch was good value, tasty and we were seated in an alcove that provided a degree of privacy away from larger tables so that we were able to have a good conversation. The family get together was a more lively affair and we were seated in another part of the pub where the children could wander around without annoying other diners. The food was suitable for all the different age groups in our party and there were colouring activities and a outdoor play area for the kids. The only gripe on this occasion was one of the children was given a frozen sorbet which took ages to melt enough to be edible. To be fair to the staff though they were quick to offer an alternative. Good value and tasty food on both occasions.

Dined there in the evening twice this week and the food was way above what I was expecting for the price! Don't like to bang on about it, but the quality of the duck and and the to die for upside down pineapple pudding are worth the journey alone. Wine fab and the candlelit ambience around the fire was lovely. James & Gina

This pub always has an outstanding ambience, the staff are always friendly and welcoming and always up for a laugh!! The food never fails to please!! The only bad side is I have been there so many time I know the menue and it has become boring!! The specials menu is always jam packed off extra treats but this time there was no mains to choose from :(. However hall and wood house keep up the good work!!

We have been to the Half Moon several times and the service is usually good. There is a very wide menu choice. They have a wood burner which keeps the place very warm in winter. Service can be rather erratic when they are busy, but generally reasonable. They offer a good range of smaller portions which is great if you or your guests are not very hungry. The main portions are of a good size. We find the Half Moon suits us and our guests.

On arrival I was asked if I would mind waiting for our meal as they were busy with a table of 17, who were only half way through their meal I said I didn't want to be late as my colleague had a long journey home. They then said "well if you order quickly we will try to fit your order in between the large table! When the menu arrived there were only 3 slightly interesting vegetarian options for my friend. The menu was different to the one on the website, so I was unable to receive the meal I had planned to order. The barman was huffing and puffing and obviously struggling with orders on his own. Overall very disappointing which is a real shame as I live local and would frequent the pub more often, if I had a more positive experience.

We had read a review that the food wasn't great where we were staying so we booked a table at the Half Moon. The food choice was excellent and fair value. If you are feeling peckish then go for the chilli cheesey chips to share - absolutely wonderful! Main courses were varied and served with aplomb. Definitely worth a visit!

Don't expect to get a drink from the bar, you could be waiting there all night. Waiter service well, decide what you want quickly and order don't ask for more time as they might not come back. We asked for a jug of water for the table and never received it. The main course took so long the waiter asked if we would like the dessert menu (we had to laugh and said we haven't had a main course yet). No one came to collect our plates after our first course we had to pile them up ourselves. On a positive note the food is quite good, nicely presented. Would we go back, no.

I booked a table for a family Easter lunch. When we arrived we were disappointed to find a reduced menu which was not advertised on the web and with 3 vegetarians in the group were more disappointed to only have the option of a salad. When it arrived, it was literally just a plate of mixed leaves with a tiny amount of beetroot and feta on top - no dressing, croutons, bread or anything - we expected far more for £8.95! We were told that stock was low because we had arrived after the lunchtime rush, but given we had booked in for this time and the kitchen was advertised as being open, this was not acceptable. Everyone left disappointed. We didn't make a fuss so as not to upset our poorly father. The serving staff were efficient and friendly.

The restaurant was moderately busy on Easter Saturday evening. We had a nice corner table for 3. The service was very slow. it took so long for our initial drinks order to arrive that we went to the bar and got them ourselves - we'd finished them before the waiter brought the ones ordered. Then a long wait for our food order to be taken. Food was OK; nothing out of the ordinary. There was a special Easter menu on instead of the regular choices. This was very limited. Nothing here to make us rush back.

This was our first time eating here as a couple and we were slightly disappointed. We booked in advance as we expected it to be busy as it was Saturday evening. The service was very slow and second order of drinks took an age to come. The starter was very good and we were looking forward to the mains but both of us were somewhat disappointed. Both main courses were not as expected and were quite plain with no taste.

We visited the Half Moon on 30/1/2014 for Lunch. It was very cold inside and both the wood burning stoves were unlit. there was one radiator near our table but it was luke warm. One of my guests said to the waiter how cold it was but received no response. My wife`would have gone home but our guests had traveled some way. I have a real dislike to pubs with unlit fires , it takes the heart out of a business and makes it feel uncared for. The Lunch and service was good.
