once again, not a good experience. Menu was very limited, extremely expensive, menu was unreadable due to very small writing and poor lighting. Ordered Steak, and said to the very nice and polite waitress, I will have it cooked Medium to well done, but I will want to be able to eat an enjoy it. No Blood please, so make sure it is cooked with no Blood showing. This did not happen, and the steak was in face very Bloody. You obviously do not have a proper well experienced chef. Steak is not difficult to cook exactly how the customer likes it, nothing could be more simple. My Wife and Son ate their choice, but there was so little to chose from. The drinks were very expensive, I myself ordered a Lager with lime, and was charged 65p for the lime, although I was that much lager missing. No other good , customer related Restaurant charges for the drop of lime. There was only a few people eating on a Saturday evening, yet we book and eat at a Restaurant in Hassocks at least once a month, great menu choice and full of people every time, and the same drinks are at least one third lower than the Hangleton Manor, do charge for lime and exce3llent lighting. We have know over the years eatent at the Manor at Hangleton, and have not been satisfied once yet.
Lovely dinner, generous portions, fabulous food - beautifully cooked with wonderful flavours. Good range of typical gastropub food in a restaurant setting. Lovely bar too with good range of beers and wines. Great ambience. Always a favourite
Lovely meal , veg a little over cooked , staff - helpful and friendly , will come back .
Excellent surroundings. Busy. Staff didn't badger you but checked on you the right amount. Could do with a little more light as it was difficult to read the menu and card machine! Great birthday dinner. Thank you.
We enjoyed our impromptu visit to the restaurant. The waiting staff were lovely. We were however disappointed they had run out of roasts.....
A lovely Sunday roast in lovely surroundings. Love the way you get extra gravy
The food was below average the ambience was cold and dank the ale was good but expensive it was all very disappointing for a birthday celebration
Lovely evening for my sons birthday. Great food & service. Will be back.
I always rate the food really highly here but last week it was a little disappointing. I did try something different though, the British Ham and Eggs. The eggs were perfect but the ham was only just warm and very thin. I think I expected something more like a gammon slice, rather than a thick slice of ham.
Everyone else was very happy with their meals so maybe this just wasn't the right meal fro me - I'll stick to the Burgers and Pies which are always amazing.
Service was lovely and friendly as always - thank you.
This is a favourite with my family for lunch or any special occasion. It's a wonderful building and the food's great - and the staff are super welcoming and accommodating.
We've been here many times, but this time our dishes were really lacklustre. I don't know if it was because it was a Sunday evening and they'd been serving roasts all day, so our regular food wasn't given the proper attention, but none of it was particularly nice. However, staff were great, as always, and the drinks and ambience were lovely as well.
The food and service were good. Friendly staff. Restaurant was a bit dark. Could have done with more light at the table.
The food was of a reasonable standard. Gloomy décor. Very uncomfortable, hard seating. Extraordinarily noisy party in on my visit which made conversation very difficult. Pleasant and attentive staff.
Disappointed booked table weeks ahead of Christmas Eve for daughter and husband and myself .Received several phone calls to change booking times . Arrived on time and sat at a bare table for four .Just menu and sauces and cutlery . My daughter asked why were other tables, had table dressed, wine glass with serviettes and crackers and table cloths . Christmas experience.
Are experience was not special for Christmas Eve , was no treated as other diners were given that extra special experience . Disappointed and my daughter was upset that we were parked in corner and she suggested we got up and go .......
Disappointed that at 7.50 on a saturday evening they had only portion of crumble available, no Trifle, no cheese board.
The online menu price for Rump Steak is £13.79, we were charged £16.50 & the dips/sauce listed as £1.79 but charged £2.00.
Could not recommend venue if they charge what they feel like on the day.
Good food though menu has been reduced. My onlh gripe was that we felt old!
I had another great meal at the Hangleton Manor. Just cannot get enough of their Sweet Potato Fries, definitely the best I have EVER had anywhere.
We were served by Elliott this time, who I hadn't seen before, he was excellent, courteous, knowledgeable and checked in regularly enough to make sure we were ok but not too much to be intrusive.
The Hangleton Manor has been consistently good this year.
Good food if slightly expensive, but didn't mind as a one off
As always food excellent. The steak one of the best I have had. However, the pint of Amsterdam my husband had was awful and the Kronenburg not much better. More attention to the draft beer required - urgently.
Booked on the day as had family visiting. Four of us had a very nice evening meal, lots to choose from and staff were attentive. Changed our table for us as we wanted a quieter spot to chat. Will go again.
I took a woman of 98 years. The staff were wonderful, very helpful charming and attentive. My only criticism is that for this woman there was too much food and it was a little overwhelming. It was well cooked but perhaps just a bit less on the plate would have been easier.
It's a lovely, historic venue with a good value Sunday lunch menu. Perfect for family occasions - we often come for birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day etc. And the staff are very welcoming and attentive.
Gastro fine dining restaurant serving good quality food at reasonable prices. Service excellent and very accommodating to customers requirements. Will definitely visit again.
Lunch to celebrate a birthday, service was excellent and staff extremely pleasant and welcoming with a few little touches to make the day extra special, would definitely recommend it and the food was hot and really tasty. Lovely lunch
Very disappointed ! It was a special occasion to have a relaxed Sunday lunch with friends we had not seen for a while. Was really looking forward to a treat on a much needed day off . To sum it up :
Drinks took 15/20 mins
One drink had a fly in it
Tried to show waiter who was away with the fairies and didn't hear the first time - had to show him
Wine came back , quite obvious fly was scooped out
All ordered Sunday roast , as all kids were looking forward to it
Was told there was only pork left 10 mins later
Then another 10 mins later were told no pork left ? Very disappointed !
Had to get kids to all choose again
By this time we ordered 2 more glasses of wine ( which we had to ask for as they took 15 mins at this point )
At 4.00 ( we arrived at 3.00) we had to ask where our food was , as still was not with us , nobody advised there was an issue , and there were only 4 other tables eating in the restaurant ?!?
Food that came was mediocre
The desert menu came quick !
The youngest child ordered chocolate brownie and ice cream - was not advised this was not on kids menu! So was charged kids menu plus the desert ?!?!
The bill came and it was incorrect
The whole experience was unacceptable , and resulted in a lovely lunch being stressful . When it was supposed to be a special occasion and a treat !
Very very disappointed as have recently moved to area from hove and was looking for a new local eatery , used to great food and good customer service . Left feeling very let down and not keen in returning , such a shame ! When we mentioned we were not happy , nobody even acknowledged our dismay - please forward to hangelton manor , thankyou
Booked in for Sunday lunch. Very popular, therefore very busy which impacted service and choice of menu available for later sittings. Food was plentiful and generous in portions. Cauliflower cheese ordered as side dish disappointing, lacked flavour and roux sauce too thin. Otherwise quality of the food was good.
Lovely staff in an old manor with nice food served in a timely manner .
Worth the trip.
Good food and excellent service . Pleasant evening out with visiting family.
We enjoyed the food, felt unhurried, and the service was excellent.
Overall a nice experience, although renovations were being carried out to the historic ceilings so most of the dining area was closed, which did impact on the atmosphere
Staffing level appeared to be low as kept waiting to be seated, food was excellent. Part of the restaurant was being renovated, this wasn't screened off so made the place look untidy
We had a lovely table and the service was very good but the menu is so limited it is hard to choose an interesting meal. I'm not sure I would recommend a restaurant whose "special is chicken Kiev " sorry hangleton manor make your menu more interesting or you will be going under
Excellent meal at the Hangleton Manor yet again.
New menu and New management have really made a difference.
It's great to have this local venue back on top form again.
3 of us had a good meal the 4th person who had a plougmans was very disappointed with it - stale bread, tasteless cheese an far too much salad. No pickle and no butter. We did tell the manager who did offer the diner a sandwich but this was after we had finished so did not take them up on that. We would have expected at least a small reduction in the bill but this was not forthcoming.
Always like Hangleton Manor, particularly the lovely garden. Only have one criticism - the lighting indoors. So poor that looks very gloomy and can barely read the Menu!
The Hangleton Manor has improved so much this year.
Under new management, it has become a great pub and restaurant and the recent menu changes are great.
On Saturday evening, we took friends who had previously eaten here and not been that impressed - now they want to know when we are going back. We had a great evening, fabulous food and excellent service. Good value for money too.
Sometime since I have dined here. Overall, I think the menu is not as good as it was. I was dining with my nephew and we both wanted to finish with a selection of cheese and biscuits and was told this was no longer on the menu, though they keep being asked for it. My nephew wanted a bitter shandy, sorry the lemonade dispenser was not working and they didn't have any in bottles. The coffee machine was not working, we had to make do with filter. Two course meal for two with a beer and large glass of wine and coffees came to just under £50.
Our table was booked for 6.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday for 8 people. We were met by Lauren our waitress who was very attentive and friendly. Whilst waiting for 5 of our party to arrive Lauren gave us a list of food that was NOT available :
- Baked Camembert
- Veggie Board
- Garlic Bread
- Burger Buns (but could have a crusty roll)
- Fries (but could have chunky chips)
- Chicken Ceaser Burger.
Some people had the Tomato and Basil soup to start which was very watery - more liking to a cuppa soup.
The mains were 'ok' - the ham (with eggs) was very thickly sliced more like Gammon whereas when we had it before it was nice and thinly sliced.
A few had the fish and (chunky) chips - this was very nice but it was served with LIME halves as they had no lemons??!!
The desert menu also had items missing but no one wanted one anyway.
Apparently, there had been a 'delivery problem'. We had booked on line and so they had contact details for us - it would've been a good idea to have pre warned us of the shortages as if we had known we would have gone somewhere else. There was only us and a table of 4 there all night..
Looking at other recent reviews it seems that there are problems here which is a shame as living locally it has previously been a nice place to come and have value for money food.
This review has no bearing on Lauren whatsoever - we really felt for her working under difficult circumstances but she remained polite and courteous throughout - she is a real credit to the Restaurant.
Another lovely evening at the Hangleton Manor.
We both had the bacon and Cheeseburger and switched the fries for Sweet Potato fries. This is the only place that I know of that can make decent, crispy on the outside, sweet potato fries, well worth trying.
New menus is great and the staff were the right amount of attentive and really friendly.
Will be visiting here again soon.
Very dissatisfied. On arrival we stood for at least 10 minutes being ignored until a male member of staff asked if we needed help.I told him we had booked a table for 5:15 he looked at me k like he didn't believe me. He then checked his computer having found our booking he showed us to a table.
We ordered a bottle of wine and a jug of water. The wine arrived 10 minutes later but no water. We then waited 25 minutes while he played about on the computer with a female member of staff. They dissappeared and we were about to leave when he walked passed the door and presumably remembered we were there. We were after all the only people in the restaurant. He said "he'd been carried away with the moment" ?? And took our order. I asked for new potato's with my steak as I don't like chips. My wife asked for a small tofu salad. However he said they had no small salads ?? She would have to have the large but he would charge for the small. When the meals arrived my steak came with chips not new potatoes. Having finished our meals, and still the only people in the restaurant we sat for another 20 minutes for service. Eventually a waitress came and asked if we'd like anything else we told her we would have liked a desert but after such poor service ado long delay we just wanted to get out. We asked for the bill and noticed they had still charged for the large salad and not the small salad we a had asked for and been told we would be charged for. Discraceful service. Will not be going back.
