Located in one of London’s hippest enclaves, Hanoi offers sizzling, fresh traditional Vietnamese food to a mixed crowd of local Hoxton hipsters. But the Hanoi Café is also just near enough to the City to attract an after work crowd. The décor is simple and bright it and lets the food speak for itself. The atmosphere is bustling and breezy.

Our waitress unfortunately didn't understand when I told her we had a reservation. The restaurant was completely full and a table had obviously not been reserved for us. She first of all told us to come back in half an hour and then instead kindly squeezed us on to a table right by the door. It was not her fault that she did not know we had a reservation and it was very good of her to fit us in, but it did feel that the restaurant didn't even have a reservation system in place and that we might as well not have bothered reserving a table in the first place.

I booked in advance but there really was no need for lunchtime. The place wasn't much to look at but the ambience was pleasant and the service was good and attentive. The food was great and was served quickly! Good selection and reasonable amount of vegetarian options too. Definitely worth a visit and would go back.

The food was delicious. I was pleased to see there wasn't too much choice (a huge menu is always a bad sign). I had the pho which was great. My friends had curries - also delicious.

Only downside - the service wasn't very attentive. Took forever to bring us the bill and they didn't check up on us throughout the meal to see if we needed more drinks or anything. Really felt like we were fighting for the waiters attention which was disappointing because it wasn't very busy.

The starter - steamed rolls - was wonderful and we thought we'd be in for a real treat. The mains could not quite keep up: the prawns weren't fresh at all and the crispy duck was really dry with little meat to chew off the bones. The wines on the menu are not worth bothering, however the restaurant kindly let's you bring your own for a very fair 2.50 charge per person. Around the corner is a supermarket/off-license with some really good wines. Overall still good value though I'll be back to the neighboring Vietnamese places which seem slightly ahead.

Although it was pretty decent value for money the food was quite average standard fair...starters quite greasy. There are better (in terms of quality) Vietnamese in the area. Staff were superb, very efficient.

This is clearly a family run restaurant. The food is super fresh and yummy and prices are very economic.

Quite slow service as it looks like a small family unit. Quite an authentic menu but the food was great and the place had a lovely basic homely feel.

We had booked a table for 8pm. We arrived and were seated in the first table available, which made me feel that the booking wasn't required. The type of food is adequate for different taste (spicy lover or not) and served in quantity enough for sharing. The starter we choose were not extraordinary but the main course was lovely. They could do with a longer drink list.
All in all we had a lovely diner experience, but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a romantic night out, as it became very noisy and we were unable to hear ourselves, due to a very loud and rude table of girls night out.

Volume for money. Very easy going and casual place reminding of me a canteen in Asia. They allow you to bring you own drinks so you can save £££. Food is good. That's all matters at this place.

Went to Hanoi cafe with friends a couple of weeks go. The interior is not fussy - it pretty much does what it says on the tin: it is a cafe but the food is really excellent, portions are very generous and prices very good. They do an especially good chicken noodle dish (which has a fancier name that I can’t now recall) – it is amazing!

Hanoi Cafe!

Booked for 20.30 and was late, called to let them know and they moved the reservation with no problem despite the place being very busy. Arrived and did not know what to order, the lovely waitress really helped out and the food came quickly, was so fresh and tasted stunning, four of us ate, 1.50gbp per person corkage and the bill was 14.50 each - what more can you ask for? just go there!

Hanoi Cafe dinner - starters excellent, fried tofu crunchy, soup beatiful; main course vegetables properly al dente, curry little disappointing, and Vietnamese duck on the bone was not particularly flavourful. Food appeared really quickly though, in spite of another table of 30 people. Reasonable price, good food but I am not sure I prefer Vietnamese to Thai.

My friends and I have been to Hanoi Cafe a few times now and have always enjoyed it. This time a friend and I decided to have a joint birthday dinner of 22. The service, seeing as it was a busy saturday night and there were so many of us, was brillant. Everyone enjoyed the food, which is great value for the amount to can afford in relation to some other pricey Vietnamese restaurants on Kingsland Road, Shoreditch. Great and easy place to have delish Vietnamese food for any occasion.

Empty when we arrived, worried we had made the wrong choice. By the time we left its was packed with people queing out the door. Nice simply laid out menu with enough choice but not to much. Friendly, welcoming staff. Food was good and price very reasonable. Would definitely go again well done Hanoi Cafe.

Hanoi Cafe on Kingsland Road is fast becoming a favorite of mine and my friends as the place to eat on what we call the 'Hanoi Strip'. There are so many Vietnamese restaurants to choose from on Kingsland Road, we have been to about 5 so far. Hanoi Cafe is the place we have been to the last three times. Whether it is big groups of 10 for smaller groups the service is fast and very friendly, including recommending dishes for those unused to the cuisine. Great value for money and authentic tastes.

Hanoi Cafe sits amongst a plethora of other eateries on the Kingsland Road, the slightly grottier side of Hoxton. Not sure if it was down to it being a Sunday evening but the place was pretty much empty when we arrived and stayed pretty much like that for the rest of the stay. The food however was excellent and reasonably priced so the lack of ambience was not terminal.

Hanoi Cafe in Hoxton is a great place for gathering friends together for a group dinner. We went as a group of ten and the service was great, even when some people were asking for food recommendations. The food came quickly and was such great value including drinks we each paid £16, bargain. I wold go back again.

Hanoi Cafe, Shoredich.
A decent way along the Pho mile, it was very, very quiet when we arrived - Lucky, really, as I wasn't in the mood for loud, shouting people at the time.
The selection and quality of starters was superb, as was the selection of different fillings for the roll-your-own summer rolls.
The only fly in the ointment was that they don't seem to accept cards - though i don't really mind on this occasion. It's worth the effort to grab some cash!

Hanoi Café in Dalston is still an enjoyable place to eat - we've been going there for several years. It competes well on price with all the other restaurants in the same strip (there are lots of Vietnamese restaurants on that part of Kingsland Road). I wouldn't go anywhere else!

Hanoi cafe is the perfect place to graze and share with friends. The food is varied, freshly prepared, well flavoured and served quickly. So we start by ordering a few dishes and then add more as the meal and chat progresses. Service is friendly and prompt, the wine list consists of one red and one white, so simple, and the atmosphere is happy and relaxed. Great value.

Lovely meal as per usual at the Hanoi Cafe, Salt and chilli crab and BBQ ribs to start - crab was particularly good. We had the tilapia with tamarind and tomato, the beef clay pot stew with chilli and some sticky rice. All utterly delicous and leaving you wanting more! You can BYO which is great, service spot on. Great for midweek eats with friends.

As mentioned in previous reviews Hanoi Cafe was very quiet when we arrived and didn't start to fill up until we were leaving. That doesn't bother me, but others might not be so keen. The lady who served us was really efficient and friendly; I have nothing but good things to say about her. The food was okay, not the best Vietnamese I've had, but by no means the worst. Based on my visit however I'll definitely be continuing on my quest to find a good value great food Vietnamese.
