While the location & view is superb, this is obviously reflected in the prices charged. I felt for what we had the food was good, but not outstanding for the price charged. Over £15 for a salad does seem a tad excessive. Not sure I would return quickly, but ambiance lovely & on a summers day, to sit outside would be a joy. Service was not exceptional, which again I would expect in a place like this.
We've eaten several times before at the Harbour Heights and have always enjoyed the food. On this occasion we were very disappointed by the choice of food on the menu (which changes from time to time and is not available beforehand on-line) and could not find a starter or dessert that either of us liked, the dessert menu in particular was limited, there were only 3 choices (other than the standard ice cream/sorbet/cheese offerings). The service was indifferent and inattentive - the waiter was not knowledgeable about the drinks and then served me with the wrong drink, part of our food order was missed and we had to ask for water top-ups etc.
We chose the Heights for my sons 18th birthday lunch and we were all extremely impressed. The food and service were both first class and of course the views are second to none. Special mention to Sol for his rendition of Happy Birthday and the birthday plate was greatly appreciated. We shall look forward to our next visit.
Really enjoyed the food although it was a little pricey. Staff very friendly and accommodating
Nice place, good restaurant but now there is a breakfast buffet cooler (high and in a dark colour, horrible) in the restaurant and it looks like a hotel breakfast room ! and... oh, yes, we do evening meals.
Food is still good (the 1st chef left in December), quality and taste.
Excellent three course meal with plenty of options, very attentive, friendly and helpful staff, great ambiance. A thoroughly enjoyable evening!
Lovely family meal to celebrate a 21st birthday. Everyone had a different meal with plenty of food sharing and every dish was well cooked and very tasty. The staff attention was excellent
The service was very slow, it appeared that they had few staff to deal with the customers, even though the restaurant was not busy and lot of empty tables. Generally we had a wonderful meal.
Great view! Nice food! However service was slow and the amount of tea you get for the price isn’t so good
I think it would be nicer to have leaf tea rather than tea bags.
A regular local favourite. Especially good in the summer, when weather good, with spectacular vies from the terraces. Friendly service, reliably good food and changing menu. Prefer ambiance without live music as, with that, and a full restaurant noise can be intrusive. Normal mid week evening all is perfect.
What a beautiful setting for lunch! Food was great, service was spot on & the view was amazing
On arrival with my two visiting friends we asked for 3 gin and tonics unfortunately the special Gin glasses were not available and the bar man didn’t seem to get that it was our preference to have “A nice glass for our drink” however the main bar manager ‘Sol’ was very apologetic and went out of his way to try and source the glasses although there were none available he went out of his way to make us feel special and was very attentive
Very disappointed. Service was bad and there were only a few tables booked so no excuse. Bill had “discretionary” charge already added - I hindsight we should’ve paid it. Food was very rich but tasty but VERY expensive for what we got and very limited menu choice!
Great place for Sunday lunch with fabulous views of the sea - what better way to relax
Great table overlooking the harbour and sun at our backs. Service excellent and not too fussy. Food a pleasure for starters, mains and desserts. Good wine menu with by the glass (x3 sizes) or bottle. Very enjoyable Sunday lunch.
We stayed overnight at the hotel so experienced breakfast, afternoon Dorset cream tea, snacks, bar and dinner.
The whole weekend was faultless and I don’t often say that about a hotel so well done. Staff were delightful, room perfect. Can’t wait to return. The superb warm sunny end of October weather certainly helped and the magnificent sunset over Poole harbour too. Loved it.
I have eaten here on numerous occasions but was a little disappointed this time . Service was extremely slow and we were left with empty plates for quite some time. The bill came to over £100 per couple, including wine, which I thought was a little high for the standard of food. The Pianist was way too loud for the size of the restaurant and we could not have a proper conversation during the rendition.
With that said the setting is amazing, especially if you have a cocktail on the terrace beforehand.
Harbour Heights scores principally for its stunning view. The food was very good and well presented. All was perfect until a group of 12 people came to the adjacent table and decided to open the windows causing a through draught which was uncomfortable to ourselves and also to the occupants another table. We left without taking coffee because of this. I consider it "has been" to charge extra for bread accompanying a meal. One member of our party came looking forward to eating mussels which were no longer available as the menu had been changed the previous day.
We really enjoyed our stay at harbour heights it was a well deserved weekend away plenty of chilling the staff were lovely very helpful room was clean and tidy view was amazing we are really happy with our stay looking forward to doing it again
Manager kept answering our questions, with a “I Know” came across rude
The food is very high standard but unfortunately the waiting staff let’s the restaurant down which I can only blame poor training, not what it used to be and what it should be as the restaurant has such a good reputation but standards have dropped
Bar service was not very good. Very slow.
Waitress were helpful.
The food was very good, the views of Poole Harbour are as good and the staff very friendly. A good night out with friends !
I have been to Harbour Heights on many occasions as I live locally. Unfortunately I didn't have such a great experience this time. We were a party of four and were seated next to a table of approximately 8 people who were enjoying a family occasion which meant that, for all the right reasons, they were having a fun time but it meant it was just a little noisy. I think we could have been seated more appropriately as my friend and I had our elderly mothers with us. We arrived at our table for 7.30pm and were served drinks promptly. Unfortunately, our food order wasn't taken until 8pm. We chose not to have a starter and two of our party chose the chateaubriand. Unfortunately our meals didn't arrive until 8.40pm which meant that we were sat at the table for a total of 1 hour 10 minutes before we had our food. When I questioned the delay I was informed that the chateaubriand option always takes 20 minutes to prepare. However I challenged this timescale as it was in fact 40 minutes that we were waiting for our food from placing order to it arriving at the table. The food was very nicely cooked and presented but I would suggest that a little communication from the kitchen and waitress would have saved the day and we would not have felt disappointed by our experience. I did ask for a reduction in the bill to reflect our experience and, after some discussion, the waitress kindly deducted the cost of our bottle of wine.
A special dinner date with friends on a Saturday night. The view and location of the restaurant is impressive without a doubt. It was too cool to dine outside but on a warmer day, I imagine the location is difficult to beat. We enjoyed the music played by the pianist - it added to the very pleasant ambience.
My friend has an intolerance to butter and the staff and chef were able to accommodate this without any fuss. But in truth, we were a little disappointed by the food. We all had different dishes from the a la carte menu, but there was a hint of curry flavouring in all of them. (no desserts eaten). It was not significant enough to complain but enough to pass comment on.
We enjoyed our evening and would recommend the location without hesitation. But the food I'm afraid did not live up to our expectation.
Very poor service , staff untrained , didn’t know what level of service they should provide, not able to apologise, totally amateur serving , like in some pub and not restaurant with 2 Roset .
-serving and put cutlery at wrong site
- have a main meal on table but NO CUTLERY !!!!
- waitress can carry only 2plates in hands ( 3people by table )
- slow staff
- no interest of staff ( only couple tables occupied)
I worked on 4-5 * Dutch river cruises and ifwork like your staff will be sacked !
I looked after couple, Lord and Lady , cooked for them and served them on their level.
Lord was Knight of the Gater as well.
I believe if work like your staff they wouldn’t employed me for year.
Another lovely meal at HH! The service was efficient and curteous, although occasionally overstretched by a large group table! The food was well cooked and tasty, another slice of meat would have been a bonus! A regular watering hole!
Been loads, senior italian waiter chap makes the place tick over nicely.
Service was excellent. Food was delicious. View breathtaking.
Excellent food in an outstanding setting. Would normally give 5 starts, but on this occasion main courses on the menu, which we wanted, were sold out.
Overpriced for a rather average kind of meal, service and views were good, but not much more to warrant a return
Had a wonderful Birthday dinner celebration. The food was amazing as usual and the service although a little slow to start with was excellent. Also very impressed with the solo by the restaurant manager for the Birthday celebrations.
Great meal, with friends
Not our usual 5 stars this time unfortunately. The setting was fantastic as always but the food was rather unexciting and the service less attentive than usual.
We booked here for the view and the food and were not disappointed. The Matre D was very professional and excuse me for not naming him as I couldn’t even guess how to spell it.
The weather was warm the veiws fantastic.
The food we ordered was faultless.
The piano was playing in the background which made the ambience of the evening only slightly spoiled by the weeding in an adjacent area.
Never the less I would fully recommend as it does have a wow factor.
Beautiful panoramic views. Food was ok. The restaurant was hugely understaffed
Where to start? No where to park. Got in the restaurant at 8pm (on time)and we were not even acknowledged. Had to fight to get attention. Stood waiting for a while. Eventually seated inside and ordered water. Weather had been 30 degrees. Tried to get waitresses attention twice. Water eventually bought mine over half an hour later. Mums I had to remind them about so I ordered the food then and there. Saw a couple leave before eating. Bread roll offered seconds before meal arrived? No fish knives given, no “is everything ok” my mum had at least 7 pieces of shell in her crab, one bit was over half an inch in size. HOW on earth did that get through to service?
Wine ordered also took forever to come,
After dessert plates were removed there was no “would you like coffee?” Sat there for ages. We got up at just before 10pm to leave and had to find someone to pay the bill. We could have just walked out and on reflection probably should have.
Mentioned all the above to the supervisor who took the service charge off. £7 wow?? There wasn’t any service, no attention to customers. The food was poor and I felt extremely disappointed. My mum had a bellyache afterwards and is suffering this morning.
I can stand on evening hill for free if it was just the view I wanted. I wanted a nice meal and I didn’t get it?
Food and wine were excellent.
The only issue are there are not enough staff. The restaurant was not busy (there was a wedding going on in the function room) but we had to wait 20 minutes for the menus then another 20 minutes to have our order taken. Delivery of food was perfect. Once finished had to ask for the bill twice and then another 15 minutes to pay. There were only 3 tables occupied by this time.
The staff were lovely but they needed a couple more to make the experience perfect.
We were not in a rush but was a little annoying.
Other than that the view from the patio must be one of the best in the area. Live piano is nice touch.
Would recommend and we will go next time in area.
This restaurant has one of the best views in the area over Poole Harbour towards Brownsea Island. We were late but the maitre d was unphased and very very accommodating. I had asked for a window seat and I got one. I asked for his recommendations and they were perfect staff were polite and cheerful and the food we ate was excellent. All in all a great evening for us all
