The steaks are wonderful, as are most of the sides and the sauces. That's pretty much a given with Hawkmoor. It's what they do best. (Broccoli somewhat flacid, but salads crisp and cleverly dressed.)
The issue with this particular branch is the acoustics. When the main room is any more than half full the noise is incredible. Parties sat at round tables have to semi-shout to be heard, which only exacerbates the din. I'm usually relaxed about this sort of thing, but it felt oppressive at times. You're better off visiting the Spitalfields branch, which is also a more atmospheric room.
Our waiter couldn't have been nicer, chatty but not too much, attentive but not overwhelming, and even gifting us extra chips after we were joking about me having to share my portion. Obviously, being situated in the City, our fellow diners were all businessmen (I was literally the only woman for the duration of our visit!) but we chose it because we love Hawksmoor and wanted somewhere spacious enough not to feel like our pram would be in the way. The only reason I marked down ambience is because of that very specific clientele on a weekday, but the staff were lovely and never made us feel uncomfortable for bringing a very young baby and a buggy, and we didn't feel either in the way or tucked out of sight by them. The one star down for food is simply because a dish advertised as containing porcini was instead full of button mushrooms, but overall, as ever, the food and drinks were great.
Hawksmoor is always on my must go list. When in London spend your steaks money here. Very kind staff, excellent cocktails and the best steaks and addons you can wish. Tip: choose the grilled scallops. And for desert the sticky toffee
Really bad service no attention from personnel. Staff need to prioritize customer service. Good food but too noisy difficult to have a table conversation.
Very disappointing for the money... was also not well that evening and the next day and could not eat for 24hours... wont be going back any time soon.
Excellent food. Best steak in the city. Highly recommended
I recently turned 40 and wanted a good restaurant to go with a group of 7 other friends to celebrate my 40th and having previously visited the Hawksmoor in Seven Dials and being blown away it was an easy decision to book Hawksmoor. I decided to visit Hawksmoor Guildhall as this convenient for my friends to get to and it suited our evening plans.
When we arrived at the restaurant my group were amazed by the large doors at the entrance and it immediately gives the sense of a classy and elegant restaurant.
We walked down the stairs which takes you into the bar area and this had a great atmosphere with people drinking and socialising.
We were shown to our table and due to being a group of 8 we were taken to a corner table at the back which was really impressive, it was large, it was cosy and it felt like a knights table. Although the table being large it was still possible to see and speak to everyone there with great ease. There was also a small turning table in the middle which allowed us to share drinks and food.
We then order our food and having already visited Hawksmoor in Seven Dials I was really excited about the food and once again I was left amazed as was my party. The food was cooked in great time, it all arrived together and my steak was cooked to perfection. I had a medium Sirloin Steak with double fried eggs, bone marrow gravy, creamy spinach, mushrooms and fries and all tastes amazing. The staff and food were definitely on point.
Having visited both Hawksmoor Seven Dials and Hawksmoor Guildhall the food is consistent and of great quality my only criticism of Guildhall was that the restaurant sounded a little loud, but I accept that this is in central London on Thursday night with city workers enjoying a great meal. I was very satisfied with my visit as was the rest of my party. I would definitely visit again.
Great service and seriously good steak as always. Highly recommend!
Comfortably my favourite venue for breakfast.
The staff are so relaxed and happy to chat to you. I had the short rib bubble and squeak which was amazing.
Would definite recommend.
I came here for lunch with my friends after hearing good review of the place. I was a really nice spot, we came just as the restaurant was re-opening for their lunch service. The food was very well made and the cocktails were delicious!
Undoubtedly the best breakfast we’ve ever eaten! The sausages and bacon in particular were delicious. The full English was such a big portion neither of us could finish. The service was great - attentive but not at all snobby. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent, as ever!
pricey unless like us you are on expenses but you get what you pay for - top quality steak, a decent wine selection and good friendly service. Would definitely go again
Hawksmoor never fails to disappoint and the full breakfast is no exception. Props also to the waiting staff.
Excellent as always have been going for many years in a corporate capacity but now retired and take the wife and family I think it is the best steak house in the city. looking forward to next time.
Great food as always, amazing drinks even though it was breakfast, only downside is there was no sausage.
My son and I love Hawksmoor. We mostly come for the burgers, we spent 2 years trying to find the best burger in London and now Hawksmoor is one of two restaurants we continue to eat excellent burgers at. We mostly go to Seven Dials but as we were seeing a film at the Barbican we tried Guildhall.
The staff were great. We wanted the Express Menu at 5pm but the film was at 6pm. They served us quickly and well, the food was great (ribeye steak) and we made the Cinema in a timely fashion.
Not much atmosphere as we were early but I *live* that!
I surprised my fiancé to a birthday breakfast here and was so glad to have chosen guildhall! The staff were so friendly, the food was amazing and it definitely had character! We can’t wait to return and try out the bar next time, as that looked great too (but obviously not quite the time to experience it over breakfast)!
Great - solid Old Fashioned to start, perfectly cooked steak to follow accompanied by unpretentious, full-flavored sides - very satisfying. Slick, old-school surrounds create relaxed but memorable ambiance.
Whilst I am a regular at Hawksmoor (the food is usually very good, and I like the ambience), the food can take a while to arrive - so not great if you are having a business lunch and only have 60 minutes. To properly enjoy the place with three courses you probably need to allow two hours (minimum) dining time.
Excellent staff recommended excellent food which was accompanied by good company and excellent wine.
Could not fault it
We came here for breakfast and it was very tasty, good selection.
They need to provide more options for smaller steaks. The women in our party did not want 300-400g of steak but the options for 200g steaks were basically non existent. In the end the 2 ladies ended up sharing a fillet, which was ample, but they were made to feel that this was not the norm
Had breakfast with my husband to celebrate his birthday. We enjoyed the sharing platter breakfast - it was perfect!
The food was delicious and the service nice and friendly! The decor is quite dark and it felt like a school canteen room. But overall a great experience and would recommend to friends.
Very nice evening - excellent steaks. Quite loud, hence not exactly for a romantic rendezvous
As always an excellent meal, apart for my steak being over cooked everything else was top-notch
Amazing service! Will definitely come back again. Still blown away with the whole experience.
I had not been here for around four years, I remember why. This is an impersonal spot which is great if you wish to remain anonymous, but not great if you are seeking out a refined dining experience. The food is fine, but nothing more. This was a steak dinner, with good sides, but nothing ground breaking and the management appear to have given up on presentation. Thankfully the wine list was extensive which provided some quality to the evening. Staff again were okay, but really not engaged, so much so when we split our bill in two to pay, we were out by £30... in our favour which we highlighted. London struggles to recreate anything like an American steak house, which is a great shame. Clearly there is demand, the restaurant was full midweek. However, we should demand better and someday a basement restaurant in the UK will put in an air conditioning system to counter the heat coming from kitchens and people - this is something that can tip the dining experience the wrong way that is not on the menu but should be part of the operating system.
Excellent food and service superb. Only downside is it is quite noisy but everything else great.
Great food and drinks as usual, highly recommended
I have been to the Hawksmoor on many occasions and it is generally very good.
on my last visit though I thought that the fillet steak was very dry.
The service is generally good but I do find that the staff dress in an odd way and could be anyone!
Although the food and wine were both fine the actual restaurant was disappointing in that it had no atmosphere. The ambience was like eating in a vast conference hall and most of the clientele were indeed engaged in business . It is seriously over priced too which probably doesn't bother all those spending company money but, if you are paying for yourself I suggest Cote as a far better value alternative venue.
They didnt bring half the food with the full english - no beans, no toast...
Great night out with excellent food and drink and the bets service I have had in a long time. Thank you.
Great food as always. Loved trying an Austrian red. Steak perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned.always amazing
Had a lovely breakfast here. Treated ourselves to the rib-eye steak. It was delicious and perfectly cooked. The service was attentive and friendly - not at all stuffy. Will definitely return.
Wonderful service, stunning food and an overall brilliant evening.
We went to Hawksmoor for a birthday Breakfast and got stuck in a really bad snowstorm and were 30 minutes late. The people at Hawksmoor were so understanding and lovely, and even ordered ahead for us. Everyone was so nice, the food is delicious, the breakfast was amazing, and they even brought over a little birthday chocolate surprise, which was so sweet! Its beautiful too, but not stuffy, and everyone is very chill. We were really worried we'd lose the reservation and I was so gutted, as it was my partner's 30th, but their kindness meant we still got to experience it and we felt really looked after.
We got an amazing deal via OpenTable where we had 3 courses & a drink for £35, which was extremely worth it! Otherwise, this place is fairly pricey, but the steaks were worth it! Our server was excellent and the restaurant got very busy and buzzing later in the evening.
