Hawksmoor Seven Dials
We were warmly greeted and they wished us a happy anniversary then were shown to our table, where we met Maria who would be looking after us. She was very welcoming and super knowledgeable as it was our first time at the restaurant. She talked us through the menu and the specials as well as recommendations. She answered all the questions that we had regarding the food and drink. The service was great and we didn’t have to wait long for our food. We shared the rib starter which was very tasty and then both had the rump steak with a variety of sides. The house white wine was very good and we really enjoyed it all. We ordered dessert although we were full after all the food! Our deserts (burnt hazelnut ice cream and sticky toffee sundae) were lovely and had ‘happy anniversary’ in chocolate sauce. A really good evening and we’re very glad we went!
It was an amazing experience but a tad expensive for what it is.
We’ve visited a number of times & never been disappointed. So we thought it was the perfect place to bring my brother-in-law on his trip to London to celebrate his 40th. We were wrong. This close to Christmas is always busy but they didn’t seem equipped to deal with it. I don’t blame them for making money but there were lots of big groups of very drunk, loud people. That’s my fault for not expecting It. We took a beautiful bottle of wine which took some time to get to us but the sommelier was great. We enjoyed our starters. But then the steaks came. My husband received a steak that was supposed to be medium - solid & grey inside - so overdone he sent it back. The staff were apologetic & took care of it. Meanwhile we continued to eat - with sides that had arrived cold including Brussel sprouts like absolute bullets - but we were hungry! My steak - supposed to be medium-rare - was also overdone. The cows in blankets were good & kept my husband going. I was pretty surprised when his steak eventually came back (having been whisked away on a plate full of sides) that there was no immediate offer to bring more. We had to ask & our server seemed pretty taken aback by that. Which I didn’t expect. So we just asked for a couple of things so he at least had something else. More bullet-like sprouts arrived though the chips were excellent. At that point we gave up because we were pretty mortified by a not great experience for our guest after everything we’d told him to expect. They did knock my husband’s steak off the bill (although the server delivered that with ‘we know you’re celebrating a birthday but since you’re not having dessert, I’ve taken the steak off the bill’ - as opposed to just removing it because it was terrible?) and didn’t charge for the extra sides so I’m grateful for that. But honestly, this was not a great experience and not at all what I would have expected. Let’s put it down to Christmas and say that this is usually great but not in December!
Great steak, good wine, very nice atmosphere, good service. Would definitely go back.
Excellent friendly helpful service.
Great service and truly wonderful food. Every element of our meal was high quality and delicious. Our waiter was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly . The only thing they could improve would be to install some acoustic absorption as the noise levels are high and it does detract from the atmosphere.
Unwelcoming host at reception desk, lady was as miserable as sin
Obnoxious barman who went out of his way to be difficult when asked what beers they serve
Food server was pleasant
Food average & way over priced for steak and chips
Restaurant seriously lacking any ambience
Noise level in the restaurant extremely unpleasant
Overall not a great experience and will not return
Visited for our work Christmas lunch. One of the best meals we've ever eaten. Lovely staff. 5/5
Just love The Hawksmoor and this Xmas lunch for a works team was a really good experience again although I do have to say that I found the ribs a little fatty. Service was superb and Felipe offered some wine recommendations which were excellent.
Excellent service and food
nice place for friend gathering
Exceptional food and such friendly service for myself and my 8 year old son. A real treat
Boris, our server, was outstanding! He made our evening thoroughly enjoyable. The food and ambience were fantastic, as always, but Boris re sad lot stood out.
Great meat, sides are very small, service was slow but friendly.
I did have a problem with my steak however it was dealt with immediately when I raised this with one of the servers/manager. I had ordered a sirloin steak however it was extremely fatty and gristly and not what I would have described as a sirloin, more a rib eye or perhaps rump. My colleague with me had a rib eye and other than marbling of fat she had nothing like my ‘sirloin’. The server told me that some sirloins were very fatty and I responded that had I known this then I would not have selected this particular cut. As I say, it was dealt with immediately and the steak was removed from the bill. Other than that we had a very pleasant lunch.
I've previously dined in the Air Street Hawksmoor and on both occasions the steaks were filling and well cooked. The service was friendly and competent. One of my guests asked if we could move tables as it was exceptionally noisy in the main area and our waiter agreed to this without fuss, swiftly finding us an alternative in a quieter place. An enjoyable meal.
Some of the staff were very helpful and polite but others were completely oblivious and unhelpful. I think they work on a basis of one server per area which didn't work well and meant other servers were not willing to help us which was odd. The ambiance is nice and the food was good and desserts were nice (not too sweet) but I'm not in a hurry to return.
We were celebrating our department Christmas lunch so the restaurant was very busy. We had drinks at the bar before being shown to our table. Upon being seated our waiter was both attentive, polite and very pleasant.
We ordered mainly steak whoever my sea bass was excellent if somewhat small in size. Desserts were excellent we tried many of them and In general the food was of a very good standard, however I did feel it was somewhat overpriced.
Overall good atmosphere, food and lots to drink would return.
Great atmosphere, buzzing but tables far enough apart that you don’t encroach on other guests or vice verse. Friendly, welcoming hosts. Everything we ordered was very tasty, I prefer my burgers pretty rare but although these were cooked to regulation temperature they were still tender and juicy.
Good honest food, not pretentious but understatedly classy. Would recommend and would return.
Great set menu & great service
Had a fantastic meal on a Monday night here, the BYO Mondays are great. The staff in the circumstances were brilliant too - the place was heaving and our waiter was on great form all night.
Staff were wonderful
Was excellent had a lovely time with my partner never been their before and I will definitely be going back again
Incredibly attentive service cannot wait to come back
Great service, amazing food.
Great service, but not stuck up. High quality, but not snobbish. Great location, fun staff. I will definitely visit next time I'm in London.
Food good, but very noisy, no real ambiance. Service good, but not excellent as quite slow at times. Too dark and quite expensive. Have had food as good or better for less.
Slightly disappointed with the whole experience, we were seated between two other couples but we seemed to be invisible. Our food kept going to other people and our drinks came so much later when we were seated first. Not sure if I would want to come back here again, as the bill came fast enough...
Our first visit to Hawksmoor (but not our last). The staff were simply outstanding, very pleasant and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was fabulous and plentiful. The steaks were huge! We arrived early so took the opportunity to sit by the bar and the drinks were wonderful. The staff assisted us in recommending particular wine to us which was very helpful. Although the main restaurant is surprising large (apparently an old brewery cellar) it was not too noisy and the ambience was nice and relaxed. Although the restaurant is not cheap, you get what you pay for and dare I say it, there is a better class of clientele that frequent the premises. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want to have an unhurried relaxing meal in a great atmosphere.
One of the best steaks I have ever had. All the food was superb and the service was great. Quite expensive but worth it. Quite noisy.
The steak as you would expect was great, but it was let down by the sides which were very wet and verging on cold. If you charge a premium everything should be superb.
Excellent food, service and a great evening out. The Mezcal is a must have to finish the evening off.
Slight criticism is that it’s just a little noisy; but all part of the experience.
Relaxed good fun
Food was excellent for the most part. Brussels Sprouts were hard though and chef agreed. Tables could have been a little further apart as a colleague got elbowed in the back of the head by a waiter at the table behind him.
Very loud, not possible to speak. Food was ok. Not valuable thow.
Our previous visit was a much better experience. This time we wanted to repeat the great shared Chateaubriand we'd had before, but there was none available. We settled instead for separate steaks, which were ok rather than superb. Service was attentive.
We have been several times over the summer and it has always been fantastic BUT this time was not good.
I know we were late turning up – the traffic was particularly bad, but there were tables available in the main dining hall and we were placed at the bottom of the stairs.
We ordered several steaks, especially prime rib, to share with esteemed guests from the RFU and the waiter changed these and delivered porterhouse without even informing us. He also forgot to ask about sauces so I had to order these after the steak was on the table.
The waiter was particularly disdainful telling us we had too much food and not ordering the drinks we asked for – he also changed the wine we were drinking without informing us.
It was Christmas and we were rather merry so I did not notice the ‘optional’ service charge but if I had I would not have paid it.
As always great food quality drink and a fantastic ambiance
So I’ve eaten here plenty of times over the years and the food is consistently good. It was a busy night and so the service wasn’t quite up to its usual standards. Most disappointingly the bone marrow gravy and peppercorn sauce lacked their usual depth of flavour. When you spend £85 on a 900g porterhouse it’s reasonable to expect decent gravy and sauce. Both seemed watered down on this occasion.
