The 3 AA Rosette Haywards Restaurant is located on the outskirts of the beautiful Epping Forest and historical Epping town centre. A sophisticated and elegant environment, the building is a converted skittle alley and still retains many original features. The restaurant is owned and run by husband-and-wife team Amanda and Jahdre Hayward, and their experience and passion for offering high quality and exciting dishes is evident throughout your visit. Staff are well trained and offer exceptional customer service and the interesting and exciting dishes created in the kitchen consistently receive high praise. The restaurant has recently won Restaurant of the Year 2018 at the Essex Life Food & Drink Awards. Haywards Restaurant is also featured in the Michelin Guide, The AA Restaurant Guide 2020 and has appeared on BBC One's Taste of Britain.

Hayward’s is consistently excellent in both food and service. We have been dining there for some years and have always enjoyed it. The food is interesting as well as tasty and the wine selection is also excellent.
We would highly recommend Hayward’s to diners that like high quality food, service and ambience.

First time visitors to Hayward and also our first post lock down meal out. And it was someones birthday...

Been to several of the famous establishments in the past (Ramsay's Petrus, Heston's Dinner, Alain Duchasse, etc) but we though we'd give what looked like the best local option a go, mainly to avoid having to get on a tube.

Based on the reviews I was expecting good things, but didn't know if there was an element of local bias or allowance for it not being in the West end. However, I've got to say that I'd rate Hayward's easily alongside many Michelin star/'famous' restaurants for the food and expertise from the chef and team. Every dish was full of flavours, beautifully presented and the whole (tasting) menu worked well together.

The restaurant was set up with spaced tables but it didn't feel unusual, plenty of very nice hand sanitiser - if there is such a thing! I did feel sorry for the staff having to wear full visors though but if that what it takes then so be it.

We had the tasting menu with extra scallop course and the matching wines - including one from Epping Uplands. All in, with a couple of very nice cocktails beforehand, it came to £300. And a short Uber ride home afterwards.

We will be visiting again (and again!)

We chose Haywards for our first meal out of lockdown. It not disappoint. The staff could not have been nicer and the service was flawless.. As for the food... I think Chef must have been practicing during lockdown as we thought the food was even better than before. The quail starter (breast and confit leg) was divine. We had rack of lamb with a terrine of shoulder and potoe for our main which was perfectly cooked. The dessert, and orange posset with an almond brittle was stunning. Loved every bit of it.

We have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions and whilst the food was excellent for the first time the service fell well below expected standard. We had to wait for drinks and at the end of the meal we had to cancel our coffee order because it had taken over 25 minutes to appear.

Our first visit to the restaurant. Staff were courteous, well drilled and professional. A good wine list and the tasting menu we had was delicious and was supplemented by a number of interesting and tasty amuse bouches. We will definitely be back.

We'd had dinner at Haywards about a year ago and it was excellent.

On this visit we decided to take the kids for Sunday lunch. Overall it was a perfectly pleasant experience but we were very disappointed with the Cote de Boeuf main course. 4 of our party chose to have the roast lunch but the meat was under-cooked with a lot of un-rendered fat and an almost un-chewable texture. My main course of stone bass was perfect however.

We spoke to our server (who was extremely polite and friendly) and she arranged for the supplement charge to be removed from the final bill. The deserts were superb.

In all a lovely, peaceful place to eat but sadly, on this occasion, it was let down by its suppliers.

Amazing dining experience. Although we had an amuse bouche & a pre starter, we had to wait 1 hour & 15 mins for our starter, next time will book the table earlier. The food was 5 star & the staff very knowledgeable & attentive!

The food was delicious and presented beautifully. It's amazing how you can get so many flavours from one small dish. Everything was of very high quality, the food, service and decor. All staff were friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. All the finishing touches like handmade chocolates and the decorated birthday plate made the evening extra special.

Fabulous meal , the food at Haywards is exceptional, so creative with the way it plated up, service is unhurried and good we had a very enjoyable 3 hours, no "we need your table back in 2 hours" which makes for a very relaxing evening, all the staff were very pleasant and helpful, the sommelier was very helpful with our wine choices. A great evening

I always have difficulties in finding enough superlatives to describe a visit to Haywards. Our latest visit was to celebrate my brother’s birthday. This time we opted for the tasting menu, and it was an excellent choice (although, let’s face it, whatever we choose is always going to be an excellent choice!). And as always, all members of staff were knowledgeable, attentive and efficient.

My husband and I are definitely of the Robert Carrier school of thought - “First you eat it with your eyes” - and Head Chef and owner Jahdre certainly didn’t disappoint. Colours, textures and flavours were all given equal importance and everything put before us was a delight. During the course of the evening, he came to our table himself several times, which gave us the opportunity to express our delight at the presentation, quality and creativity of the food to him in person.

As we are all cheese lovers, we also added the optional cheese course, with two servings between the four of us. We loved the idea of the “Cheese Bible” and, as with everything at Haywards, it was beautifully presented and innovative, giving detailed descriptions of all of the many cheeses on offer. In the event, we left it to the staff to put the two selections together and the four of us shared all of the cheeses.

The entire meal was superb. From the initial amuse bouche right the way through to the petits fours, everything was impressive and I’m looking forward to our next visit. By then, perhaps I’ll be able to conjure up some additional superlatives!

I have dined at Haywards on numerous occasions and both for lunch and dinner. On every occasion the food and service have been outstanding. However, ambience is sometimes an issue. This most recent visit was 12 days before Christmas day, on a Friday evening, and, let's face it, the restaurant should have been full. We were a table of 6. There were a few tables of two, but there was little atmosphere, no Christmas spirit, no laughing, very quiet. It's sad, because Haywards is one of the very few restaurants outside London that I regard as a fine dining establishment, in this part of the southeast.
So going back to the meal. We started with a shared bottle of the outstanding Nyetimber English sparking wine - as good if not better than most Champagnes! I had the duck for main course, with a side of Dauphinoise potatoes. The duck was perfectly cooked with a rich and delicious sauce. No complaints there! For desert I had an excellent blackberry soufflé, with a cardamom ice-cream. I sampled the Grenache wine from France, which was also excellent. Service was efficient and professional. By the way, there were three amuse bouche pre-dinner, one pre-desert and a selection of petit fours.
So this would have been a perfect evening had the restaurant been busy and buzzy. But if quiet and calm floats your boat, then Haywards is definitely for you.

We have eaten in many top Michelin starred restaurants and we were pleased that Hayward’s is definitely on a par
With many of them but slightly less pricey. We had the a l carte menu for lunch and were delighted with the additional amuse bouche and petit fours. The quail starter was one of the best I have ever tasted, the meat was moist and very tasty. We also had the crab starter and for mains monkfish and stone bass all unfaultable. Food was beautifully presented and the waiting staff were both knowledgeable and friendly and took obvious pride in being part of this successful restaurant team. The meal was accompanied by a delicious honey and lemon martini cocktail just right for this time of year. The only suggestion for improvement would be to have the room slightly warmer particularly at the beginning of the session as it did warm up as other customers arrived and food was served. A minor consideration and we will definitely be returning on a regular basis for this wonderful dining experience.

A friend and I went to Haywards for lunch this week. It was a joy to escape Christmas madness elsewhere. The welcome and the staff were charming, attentive , friendly and informative. The food , we found pretentious and very small portions, thank goodness we ordered lots of extra vegetables
I would go again, perhaps not when I am hungry

We were very impressed by Hayward’s Restaurant. It was very obvious that a great deal of thought and effort had been spent on the preparation of the menu, the presentation of the food and the excellent customer service. We really enjoyed our starters and main dishes but the desserts were truly outstanding. We would have liked to try them all! Many restaurants seem to see desserts as an necessary afterthought but not Hayward’s. As much care and thought was devoted to the desserts as the the rest of the menu. The cheese selection was also very good with an interesting selection of cheeses
