Tom Pemberton, formerly head chef of St. John Bread and Wine, uses the best nationally sourced, seasonal produce, placing the provenance of meat, fish and vegetables at the centre of the endeavour.
Hereford Road aims to provide a genuine neighbourhood restaurant in residential Notting Hill Gate. It is also be worth a journey for people who value excellent food. Friendly, informed staff introduce the daily changing menu that champions well sourced British food at reasonable prices.
It was great, food delicious and staff charming. I had called beforehand to ask for a quiet table and they were most obliging. My friends and I all thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you.
Noise level was quite high.... the acoustics could be reviewed or am i getting too old?
The meal was fab.
The issue was when we went to order a second bottle of the lovely Rioja, it was sold out! so we had to switch wine which of course was not as good!
Love your place always great.
The restaurant is very cool designed and the ambiance is nice. However the service is very straightforward and not friendly, the food is unique so probably not for everybody’s taste. We had a nice evening even if we are not 100% satisfied, we would give it another try as the menu changes.
Excellent food and great recommendations on food and wine by Rachele. Noise level is high, especially on the round tables in the middle of the room.
I absolutely love this place. The staff are fantastic and the food is always lovely. I would always prefer to sit at the back. Delicious!
Service was inattentive , we waited 40 min for our entrees . They all came out separately. The quality of the food ingredients was good just not a lot of flavor or creative cooking.
Sum of the parts
Apart from the Sunday roast beef which was tasty, fatty and seasoned.
We had been here in July and we loved it. So we decided to come again on the occasion of another trip to London and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The place is charming and food is excellent. Strongly recommended!
Best local restaurant with excellent simple food, fantastic service. Highly recommend.
Love this place !!!!
I read about this restaurant in a travel book by Rick Steves. It was everything promised! The menu was sophisticated, interesting and a very good value for the level of the food. Worth the walk! Nice to be in a neighborhood.
Best meal I had in London
Always wonderful. A neighbourhood restaurant with first class food and service.
I am a great fan of Hereford Road and have been visiting the restaurant for many years. It is one of the rare places where you know you will constantly get excellent food in a great environment. Thank you chef for yet another fabulous meal!
Fantastische eten. Leuke mensen. Alleen kwamen de gangen wat snel achter elkaar.
Maar echt top.
One of the finest restaurants in London. A hidden gem!!
The quality of food has remained high for years. There is sufficient choice and the wine selections are good. We had two new entrees and mains this time, and they are each excellent. This remains a favorite restaurant for us.
All the food was excellent and extremely good value for money. The partridge with barley and girolles was superb.
Fabulous menu with Terrific food at exceptionally low prices
Good service, quick service as we needed to get to the Ginstitute for their master class
My guests and I wouldn’t hesitate in returning.
Really enjoyed the food
Fantastic food, service & wine
Delicious modern British fare in a lovely Notting Hillish side street. We will definitely return.
Such a charming neighbourhood restaurant combining the pluses of that, with solid, ambitious cooking. Lovely people both in the kitchen and outside. And the pudding list makes me think of school but in the best way possible!
Wobbly table which the server did nothing about when I told her . Just said ‘it’s the floor not the table’
Hake main course cooked well. Didn’t like the accompanying vegetable with it though.
Starter - ok
Wine by the glass- seems some strange options . I wanted a Chardonnay or Sauvignon blanc but nothing available .
Had a riesling which wasn’t cold enough .
Woman on table opposite me - constant ‘pinging’ of her phone throughout the whole meal. Are the servers not trained to say something when other diners are disturbed
by their other people’s constant phones ?
Server didn’t say goodbye when I left.
Assured, innovative and consistent - what we have come to expect over the years since we first ate here. HF rarely disappoints, and combined with an interesting and sensibly priced wine list, it is our London restaurant of choice.
Wonderful evening. Great food and fabulous service.
Very nice British food valuing their ingredients. Nice little restaurant in a quiet street.
Great, interesting food. Terrific value (outstanding food for the same price as mediocre pub food somewhere else).
But the noise level in the lower dining room made the experience unpleasant. It was as loud as people yelling in your ears, which is not fun. In fact, people at two of the tables were literally yelling. I recommend trying to sit in the upper level or outside.
Hereford Road never fails to deliver sumptuous English cooking in a very chilled and relaxed environment. I fear our party of six were a bit too noisy at times for some of the more 'seasoned' patrons but we certainly helped add to the ambiance. Amazing food as usual. A wonderful evening was had by all.
Sunday lunch at Hereford Road and our first visit with a friend who has been several times. The food was very good though the fish and veg mains options were limited on our visit. The was more choice for starters. The food was very good and service relaxed and unhurried and wine mark ups are reasonable - we enjoyed a lovely bottle of red from Corbieres in France. We can see why this restaurant has good reviews and probably attracts a loyal following. Big caveat for us though is to avoid Sunday lunch. There were several families with small children which is fine if you are in the same position though for friends catching up regret this is not my scene however good the food and wine. We would love to go again for an evening visit and you could do worse than go here if you find yourself in the area. Our bill for 3 including one bottle of wine and coffees came to £148 including service so not the cheapest of Sunday lunches.
Delicious food with a menu that balances adventurous with accessible. Really nice friendly staff. Would definitely go back :)
The best restaurant in London
My fourth or fifth visit over the last several years. Never yet disappointed.
As with every visit, Hereford Road managed to supersede our already high expectations. The restaurant is not at all formal yet manages to convey a sense of seriousness about their food, which is borne out by the stellar food (and wine list). Our party included 2 teenagers, thrilled with their choices of duck breast starters, hake and onglet main courses. It was all so happy-making, we had to keep going and were particularly pleased with our gooseberry custard pots and rice pudding. It deserves to be busier, more expensive and better known so be grateful it's not, and go!
A good fresh food. I recomend the sole, the liver, the calf brain...
Amazing food, top quality service, beautiful venue, great location. Cannot recommend Hereford Road highly enough.
Staff didn't keep smile when we take time to order from menu. Shi said kitchen close soon. I understand bad you can guess how we felt.
Marvelous new discovery for me. Very close to home.
Wine very expensive. Food and service fine but the place had no atmosphere whatsoever. All the tables and chairs were worse for wear and the place really needs a new lease of life. May be better in the evening
